Together: My Thoughts on Cersei & Jaime’s ending.
I realized that I haven’t actually made a post on here about my thoughts and feelings about the episode, well not the whole episode, just the parts that matter: the reunion and subsequent death of my beloved twins.
I cried, I bawled. I was so sad to lose them, to see that they couldn’t escape or survive, but even in my sadness, it wasn’t lost on me how absolutely wonderful their final scenes together were.
Most of all, they died together. Jaime made it, through it all, being mortally wounded, just to get to her, so that he could die with her with barely a chance at escape.
They died as they came into the world together. Jaime said that he wanted to die in the arms of the woman he loves, and he did. And it is no question that Cersei wanted the same. As Lena said, Cersei was at peace in Jaime’s arms, looking into his eyes, as they faced death. She wouldn’t have chosen any other way than to die in the arms of the person she loves.
Not only did they die together, but the way they did and the way they reunited was wonderful. The pure elation at seeing each other again, the way they looked into each other’s eyes as they held onto each other, Cersei’s touching concern that Jaime was hurt and bleeding, them holding hands as they rushed to safety, Jaime trying hard to console Cersei in their final moments, holding her in his arms. They were so in love and in touch in those moments. Nothing else mattered. Truly. It was so unbelievably soft and beautiful and everything I ever wanted or needed to see for them as a pairing.
Last but not least, Nikolaj and Lena’s acting in those scenes was exceptional. They were absolutely dynamic together. Their chemistry was completely off the charts. One of the most well-acted scenes on the show, easily. And hearing Lena’s comments about how sweet and sentimental she and Nik were while filming made me love it even more.
Ultimately, yes, I’m very sad that I’ve lost my two favorite characters on this show and my favorite pairing, but I’m so overly pleased with and appreciative of how their ending was executed. And besides, it’s alright. I can always imagine that they made it to Pentos, that their baby has been born, and that they’re able to live a happy life together.

I know you came up with pre-canon jonsa, I love that theory but We know cersei/Jaime "experimented" while growing up, right? We also know J/S have all the inverse paralells with J/C. So the thing is, if Jonsa is supposed to be the positive mirror means that nothing happened pre-canon. Or does that mean that something innocent did happen between the two, but they both felt so guilty afterwards that they removed it from their memories?
Hello anon! Thank you for the ask!
I wouldn’t say I came up with the idea of pre-canon jonsa… There were already fics about it and stuff, so I don’t consider it a revolutionary concept I personally came up with or anything. I just wrote the meta A Hidden and Forbidden Love, which I still believe to be mostly crack even though I’d love it to be canon and if it ends up actually being canon in the books I’ll never shut up about it…
The idea while writing it was that, if there was something there, not only was it completely one sided from Jon’s side, but also innocent and maybe not even consciously acknowledged by him.Think of it like the sweet crush Bran has on Meera in the books (whose foil is the not-so-sweet crush Sweetrobin has on “Alayne”, where he doesn’t respect her boundaries and gets physical with her despite Sansa’s discomfort).
I know that people took this theory and ran away with it, theorizing that maybe there was the opposite to an un-kiss between Jon and Sansa back then, where they kissed and both felt guilty and suppressed the memory, but I already consider the unrequited crush a stretch, so I don’t subscribe to those theories. On the contrary, I believe that since Jon and Sansa’s dynamic has been set up by GRRM to be the foil to Jai.me and Cer.sei’s relationship, as you said yourself, there was nothing going on between them back in Winterfell.
Just to highlight some of the juxtapositions that make those two relationships foils so far:
Jai.me and Cer.sei look like a gender-swapped version of each other, while Jon and Sansa look nothing alike, to the point that they wouldn’t even pass as siblings
Jai.me and Cer.sei were extremely close as children, but Jon and Sansa barely interacted during their childhood
Jai.me joined a celibate knightly order to be close to Cer.sei, while Jon joined one that would put him as far from Sansa as possible (I’m not saying he joined because of Sansa, just that Castle Black is far away from King’s Landing)
So, if jonsa is a thing and GRRM continues to juxtapose the two, it means that:
Where Jai.me and Cer.sei experimented with each other physically as children, Jon just admired Sansa from afar (if my my theory is correct)
Where Jai.me and Cer.sei gave in to their passion with zero moral qualms about the wrongness of the incest, Jon and Sansa will be tormented about it and not give in to their passion until after Jon’s parentage is revealed.

Do you think jonsa in the end will be inverse of Jaime-cersei? Sansa and Jon have forbidding feelings for each other and will be tormented until the parentage reveal unlike jaimsei toxic incest relationship. Sansa end up queen in her home at her own rights unlike cersei while Jon is exiled unlike Jaime. Jon can sire bastard on Sansa and Sansa will legitimatise the child but Sansa will never marry so it would not be treason. What do you think?
See this post about Jon and Sansa as foils of Jaime and Cersei.

I have read some opinions about jonsa but some of them wanted to be version of cersei Jaime 2.0. one even said that Sansa is like rhaegar n Jon is like lyanna so she will take him in her bed. They want Sansa to not care about world and have sex with Jon. In some cases they want Jon to become angry n possessive. I don't want an unhealthy n toxic jonsa when we already had jaimsei n jonerys. Sure when they meet they will vulnerable but I don't want to become codependent.
I am not at all familiar with such takes. Are we talking about people speculating about future book canon?
GRRM is not writing grimdark bitterness porn, so I sincerely doubt we’ll see Jon and Sansa turn into lesser versions of Gomez and Morticia, just bathing in blood, laughing madly and debauching the crypts, “Après moi, le déluge”-style.
There are complex, valid, non-toxic takes on this in fanfiction based on the show, where the characters are older and their arcs different. A Violence Done Most Kindly by @orangeflavoryawp is what I would call a complete revelation on how you can take a dynamic that would be toxic or codependent in another context and break it down to the psychological core in a way that ends up making it downright wholesome, healing and life-affirming. (No seriously, read everything she has ever written, she is brilliant.)
But as far as book canon goes, we are talking about completely different characters and dynamics. Sansa is not on a path meant to break her spirit. She is thirteen years old and still, deep down, yearning for love, while comtemplating questions of ethical ruling and practical diplomacy. Jon is sixteen and going through much the same. I mean, sure, he just got stabbed a lot, but I don’t think it’s going to turn him into a sexy werewolf avenger. Whatever wrath or bitterness may plague them both by the time they reunite (soooooon), their mutual effect will be about pack dynamics as espoused by Ned, about the struggle between power and responsibility and how personal feelings and longing for romance can figure into that.
And GRRM isn’t putting in references to Shakespeare comedies and romances, to Jane Austen and Snow White and Beauty and the Beast, in order to glorify a narcissistic, toxic spiral of darkness between two children. He’s currently working them all to point where they will come to display the legacy of their parents, their upbringing, their mentors, their inner values. “You have to choose.” Toxic codependence doesn’t really fit for them, thematically. There’s neither reason nor motivation nor space for it.

Game of thrones fic prompt
Jaime sees what’s happening to Cersei. He killed the Mad King to prevent him from blowing up the city, and now that Cersei has done it, he’ll have to kill her too. It’s the only way to save her.

I just posted a little Cersei/Jaime fic, canon-divergent in which they survive and Cersei wakes up on the morning after the battle, pleasantly surprised that Jaime is in bed next to her. Pretty fluffy, but I hope y’all enjoy it! 💋
