In Review: The Incredible Adventures of Janus Stark (Volume Three)
Rebellion have now released three volumes of The Incredible Adventures of Janus Stark, available exclusively from the Treasury of British Comics web shop, as both digital and print editions, the latest just last month – and what a rip-roaring collection it is. The Incredible Adventures of Janus Stark Volumes l-lll from the Treasury of British Comics.
Sometimes when you go back and re-read some of these old comic stories they really don't live up to your memory. Happy to say that Janus Stark does not disappoint and his adventures are among the better collections from the Treasury.
I think it's partly the atmospheric art that matches the dark and foggy Victorian London setting of Tom Tully's stories so well. There are a number of artists contributing to the three volumes to date but you don't tend to notice the changeover between them. Francisco Solano Lopez contributes most of the art but you also get quality work from Reg Bunn, Franc Fuentes Man and Jaime Brocal Remohi.
I like the format of these as well. Card cover and 48 pages on good quality paper. My only complaint would be about the publishing schedule. It would be nice if they could get one of these out every 6 months or so as the present schedule seems to be once a year.
Treasury of British Comics.
