Biography

Carnovsky is a Milan based art and design group.  Silvia Quintanilla and Francesco Rugi are an art duo that works under the name Carnovsky and have gained great recognition for their RGB project, presented for the first time in 2010.

Carnovsky does works using layers and are only painted using the colours red, green, blue and yellow.  This design they use they call RGB.  Although in normal light it is not very clear to see the design he had created using these colours.  Although when he uses different coloured lighting then you can see each design much clearer than before.  They create loads of different pictures and designs over each but using different colours although this may sound confusing when different light colours are shinned then only one certain colours design will be shown depending on the light colour.

Carnovsky has been shown on many different and popular magazines which show the popularity of this art they create.  Their work is widely recognised. It has been published in many magazines around the world, such as Frame, Wallpaper, Elle Décor, Whitewall, Vogue, and Wired, among others, as well as in lots of blogs. Their wallpaper “Jungla,” presented in London at “DreamBags JaguarShoes” in 2011, won the 2012 Wallpaper Magazine Design Award for Best Wallpaper.  

Design and my opinions

The design below I believe is very cleverly made.  It shows different was in which the human body can be seen right from the skeleton to the flesh.  It is clever as it looks very messy and confusing with all the different colours overlapping  each other.  Although the clever bit is when the light is shone onto the design it changes to reveal only one page at a time.  

This would be similar to my design as I have created a design of a skull which this has given me inspiration for.  The different angles in which the skull is shown allows the audience to feel as if it is moving.

The materials and techniques

In these designs they use different coloured inks which is cheap but can be very effective if used right just like the imaginative design shown below.  They print it onto a giant canvas which allows the designs to dominate the area.  The design shown below is 9 meters tall.  They use a lot of wallpaper to put the designs on a large scale or sometimes use projectors if it is that large.
