Jaguar XJS Convertible, 1988. Though the XJ-S Coupé had been introduced in 1975 it took 13 years for a full convertible to emerge from Jaguar's Coventry factory because the XJ-S had only ever been engineered to have a roof. In North America a full convertible version was available through some dealers, modified by Hess & Eisenhardt in the USA from 1986. The Hess & Eisenhardt convertible differed from the later Jaguar-built XJS convertible as its un-padded top folded down deeper into the body structure of the car resulting in a cleaner rear profile when the roof was lowered.
