The Urge to Sing

Out loud - 10 am this morning, I so wanted to sing kun faya kun, out loud. Every office should have sound-proof rooms… for singing, shouting, sobbing. Yes, please! Wait, there's gotta be some rooms or cabins here that are totally sound-proof. Now if only I knew enough Japanese to ask that around… and to explain the purpose of my request - that would be tricky!

I guess it was one of those mornings when I just woke up with an urge to sing. Actually, now that I come to think of it, I woke up with Jagjit and Chitra's Punjabi tappe on my Punjabi tongue (or is it not my not-so-Punjabi tongue!). What an absolute delight, fusion of music and masti, evergreen joy is Punjabi tappe! Chhittraan to darr lagda… Dhiyaan putraan wale ho.. Tussi roz nahaaya karo….. So much innocent fun in these words, and the tune, the melody is sheer joy too; goes without mentioning that Jagjit Singh's inflections and intonation are totally masterly (as always), and Chitra's sweet voice only adds to the beauty of this musical presentation.

Assi pyaar de geet gaavaange, I hummed on my way to the station for my morning commute, thinking of my crush, my super-crush, who I have been swooning over, obsessing even, these past few weeks… I can't wait for us to unite in love and sing Punjabi tappe together :) The urge to sing is also the urge to love.
