“I’m a witch!”

You frown as you try to fix your long skirt once more before taking a look in the mirror to inspect your outfit.

It’s Halloween night and your boyfriend is about to pick you up for his friend’s party. Jae decided to dress up as Beetlejuice, one of his favorite movies to date and so you decided to go as Lydia, kinda like a couple’s outfit.

Coincidentally, this is the night you decided to let him know the truth about you. Although as you keep practicing your words in front of your mirror, no explanation seems sane enough.

Jae won’t believe you that’s for sure.

You sigh in thought, just as your roommate apparates into your bedroom without actually walking through the entrance like normal people.

Okay, he and you aren’t exactly normal so you can give him that.

“Jesus Christ, Wonpil! Can’t you knock, at least?!” you complain, turning around to glare at your friend, floating in the middle of your bedroom while munching on some popcorn.

The brunet boy shrugs with a devious smile on his lips. “I just couldn’t help but overhear your miserable attempts at explaining to Jae what you are, thus probably ending your relationship, after what has only been two months.”

You reach your hand upwards to wrap around his ankle and forcefully drag him down until he falls to the floor with a grunt. You could have done it with just a snap of your fingers but where’s the fun in that.

Wonpil rubs his butt with a pout as you ignore him to check on your makeup.

“Seriously though are you just gonna go up to him and tell him you’re a witch?” he asks, all signs of teasing gone from his features as he gets up to sit on your bed.

You sigh. “What other choice do I have?”

“Not telling him at all and continue your merry way into your relationship until you feel guilty enough for your secret that strains your bond until you finally break up with him? You know, like most couples do?”

You groan before turning your attention to him once more. “You’re not exactly helping…” you mutter just as Wonpil snaps his fingers, and music begins playing from your laptop.

“Babe, you know what you’re hoping for is basically impossible. No human ever understands,” he comments in a soft voice, in direct contrast with his previous behavior.

“Look…” You sigh, before sitting next to him. “I like Jae, I really do and I don’t want to ruin this…” 

“So don’t tell him,” Wonpil concludes, but his words make you bite your lip in guilt.

“…But I don’t want to keep secrets from him. What’s the point of being in a relationship if we can’t trust each other?” you wonder out loud as your hands fall to your lap.

“Look, it’s up to you if you tell him or not and whatever you do I’m gonna be right there backing you up. I just want to make sure you know the effects your actions might have. Because it’ll be silly of you to not expect any kind of reaction out of Jae when you tell him you’re a witch.”

“You’re a what?”

Immediately both your head and your roommate’s turn to look at the entrance of your room. Where you realize in horror Jae stands. 

Your eyes grow wide as much as his. Shit. You’ve forgotten you’ve given him a key in case of emergency.

Wonpil looks between the two of you in shock before, “Well, this will surely be fun but I have someplace I need to hide in shame sooo…” and then Wonpil snaps his fingers and disappears in thin air.

To which Jae gasps in shock, stumbling back only to hit his head against the wall.

You’re immediately standing and walking towards him. “Oh, shit, are you okay?”

But Jae doesn’t respond to that, eyes still as wide as saucers, almost burning the spot where Wonpil used to be. 

“Wait, wait, what the hell was that? How did he do that? And what did he mean when he said you’re witch?! What the hell is going on?!” he hyperventilates, eyes dancing over your features not able to focus at anything.

“Jae, please calm down, you’ve hit your head,” you try to reason with him but he shakes his head.

“Who gives a shit about my head, Wonpil just said you’re a witch and then disappeared with a snap of his fingers!” he states in awe before his eyes finally focus on yours, waiting for an explanation. 

You let out a long exhale before hesitantly taking his hands on yours. When he lets you do it, you feel a tad bit more confident.

“I didn’t mean for you to find out like this…”

“So you are a witch?” if it’s possible Jae’s eyes grow in size and you bite your lip before you finally nod.

“Wait, what kind of witch?” Jae simply asks and you frown at him.

Was it that simple?

“You believe me?” you ask almost incredulous and Jae lets out a surprised chuckle.

“Well, I just saw Wonpil do that, it’s either I believe you or I’ve gone crazy…” he states, still dumbfound and a small unbelievable giggle leaves your lips.

“So what kind of a witch are you? Like a “Harry Potter” type one with a good moral compass or a “Wicked Witch of The West” type one with ambiguous motives?” he’s completely serious when asking that question which makes an impulsive laugh echo through your room.

“None of those things, they’re merely children stories…” you say through giggles and you can’t believe Jae is taking this so well. Maybe the hit was a little more serious than what you imagined.

“Do you have a broomstick? Oh, or a wand? A wand would be awesome!” he murmurs amazed, a thousand possibilities running through his head.

“Wait Wonpil’s a witch too, right? So you can do what he did?”

“I’m a warlock, lover boy, get your facts straight,” Wonpil appears floating next to Jae only to give his response before he disappears again.

“WOW, THAT WAS COOL AS FUCK MAN!” Jae yells in awe and you can’t help the laugh that escapes your lips once more.

“Why are you laughing?” Jae asks confused but with a smile on his face before you wrap your hands around his neck. 

“Nothing I just thought you might react badly to the news, so I’m just happy you took it so well…” you mumble shyly as you play with his collar and Jae smiles.

“Are you kidding? My girlfriend is a witch! That has got to be one of the coolest things ever!” his excitement and adoration are genuine and you can’t help but smile as you stand on your tiptoes for a kiss. To which Jae happily obliges.

But after a second he laughs nervously before, “Um, Y/N? I’m okay with you being a witch and all but can you put us down? I’m still afraid of heights.”

You open your eyes to realize both of you are currently floating over the floor.

Damn it!

Warning: this somehow could make you cry, i think?? i mean it’s based on one of taylor swift’s heartbreaking songs :D

a/n: this was written based on Taylor Swift’s Champagne Problems and I wrote it while holding back my tears because the song’s too poignant and I was imagining Jaehyun as the man... Gosh, I was heartbroken. Anyway, I hope you’ll enjoy this one! :D

It was the last song of the glamorous night. People cheerfully clapped their hands to those who were waltzing gracefully to Frédéric Chopin. Subtle giggles erupted from the lips of the well-dressed women when they saw him offer you his delicate smile and asked, “may I have this dance, m’lady?”

Your mind subconsciously cued, ‘it feels weird. Like, it’s gonna be the last time I’m dancing with him. God, what’s happening with me?’

But you quickly shook your head and looked in his eyes, he was still studying your face calmly and a bright smile lingered on his lips, with his dimples, one of the things you loved about him, popped out on his cheeks.

You returned his smile with yours and nodded knowingly. He took your hand in his, slowly leading you to the dance floor.

He looked ethereally gorgeous tonight, just like he always did. Eyes which were aglow under the luminous lights and the way they undoubtedly held such elation and everlasting admiration for you. His gleeful and pristine smile that you forlornly wished it would stay there, propagating on his lips, despite the things you’d cruelly do, for the cause of his shattered heart.

Because I dropped your hand while dancing

Left you out there standing

Then you suddenly unclasped your hand from his once The Blue Danube echoed in the room. You said you wanted some fresh air and he followed you out of the room and strode into the garden.

Your mom’s ring in your pocket

My picture in your wallet

Your heart was glass I dropped it

Both of you were staring wordlessly at the bleak night sky which was glittered with stars.

“Beautiful,” you murmured and he let out a soft chuckle, admiringly scrutinizing your lovely face.

“You are.”

You were just in time for capturing his gaze and you laughed, but it felt heavy somehow.

“Seriously, Jae? You’re still trying to make me flushed by flirting with me like that?”

He laughed harder than you, the sound of his laugh melodically ringing in your voice, ‘God, that hearty laugh... how can I possibly think to hurt him?’

“I don’t care, you’re still blushing, anyway,” he left a soft kiss on your right cheek.

You rolled your eyes. “Whatever.”

He didn’t respond, yet he turned to face you and you swore that your heart was racing.

Sometimes you just don’t know the answer

‘Til someone’s on their knees and asks you

He was kneeling down on one knee and pulling out a small blue velvet box from his pocket. You nibbled on your bottom lip in nervousness, because you knew it, you knew it too well, how this would go.

How the day you’d been dreading had finally come to haunt you.

How this would end, more precisely, how you’d end up to shatter him in pieces and watch the I love yous and every slivers of your memory with him seamlessly drowned in an ocean of disappointment and guilt.

“The very first time I met you is when the open night sky was also shimmered with stars and tonight, we’re also under the stars and I...” He chuckled, still staring at you with full adoration, “God, I’m not an expert when it comes to arranging beautiful words because you’re technically the poet, but... I’ve loved you ever since that day you switched my pistachio with your mint chocolate... nonetheless, I adore you...”

“I’m not good with this... but I know you're the only one I want to share the rest of my life with...” his eyes crinkled while smiling broadly at you and he opened the ring box, “marry me?”

And there it was. some members of his family and friends were gathered in the garden.

“I-” you were left with no words to voice out, for you knew how predictably awful you’d make him feel.

You had a speech, you're speechless

Love slipped beyond your reaches

With you being fully aware of the inconceivable words that were spurted out of your mouth, he rose again and you could’ve sworn a dejected smile, yes a smile, painted his rosy lips. He also had a glazed look in his eyes. Jaehyun was unquestionably subdued inside.

No crowd of friends applauded

Your hometown skeptics called it

Champagne problems

For your answer was no and everything fell apart from the seconds he scanned your face in search of something doubtful. But there was none, and all he found was your clarity.

She would’ve made such a lovely bride

What a shame she’s fucked in the head

But you'll find the real thing instead

She’ll patch up your tapestry that I shred

Shortly after you left him standing there with his family and friends were also flabbergasted as he was, you went home with a remorseful feeling. The fractures of those people stared at you in incredulity as you shamelessly turned down his marriage proposal. The way Jaehyun sighed and held your shaky hand, whispering he was sorry and he went too fast for all of this and said he gave you time to think.

The way he continuously called your name and insisted on driving you home, however, again, you turned down his smallest offer and wistfully smiled at him, because...

But it wasn’t and you couldn’t bare to hear the glass breaking, notwithstanding, both of you were already apart from each other.

I’m so sorry, Jaehyun. I really am sorry.

For that matter, you were totally aware that you didn’t want a future with him, not because you never loved him, you were never ready to give everything to him and you didn’t deserve such an incredible person like Jaehyun. No, you were too busy stuck in your head.

Until earlier you had the guts to decide what’s best for you, although you knew how unspeakable your action was, and it was a fair amount of pain you had bewitched for both of you, still, Jaehyun deserved better than having you as his lifetime partner.

And hold your hand while dancing

Never leave you standing

Crestfallen on the landing

With champagne problems

Your mom's ring in your pocket

Her picture in your wallet

With every nights blurred into rainy and sunny morning, you constantly wished Jaehyun would find someone who deserved him more than you ever could, he’d find happiness with another woman and that precious smile would light up her day.

He’d repaint the canvas with cheerful colors, that you once painted with the gloomiest gray and other somber colors that you splashed on his blank canvas.

Soon, he’d forget the cause of his wretched heart and she’d be there to help him.

And you couldn’t bare to keep ruining his painting. Then you decided to stop painting and let somebody else paint his brightest sky instead.

Be happy, Jaehyun.

And I deeply am sorry for everything.
