Have I gotten back to work on my TFs minifigs? Yes. Yes, I have. Looked closer at the figs and realized there are some spots that I can fit my dremel in. I've got several figs almost ready to be painted now. 💜

Need to look into some more tips for my dremel, though. See if I can find something that'll let me get into tighter places. 🤔

SDCC 2018 – Jada Toys

High quality metal miniatures is the name of the game at Jada Toys and their SDCC display featured a ton of product making it’s public debut. From an impressive set of DC Bombshells inspired cars and drivers to die cast Transformers Alt Mode vehicles to their unique metal minifigs, Jada had something for every fan. Another set is out! Picked it up last week. Glad I did, too, because there wasn't any more when I went shopping today.

Will be stripping and repainting these ones, just like the first set. A handful of reused molds, but no worries. Lots of alternate characters to repaint them as so they're more unique. 🥰 It was the Beast Wars figs that sold me on the set, really.

Still slowly working away on the first set.

Minifig Repaint Project #3

All of the figs are out of the Bath! (Finally....) The blue ones took for-freaking-ever. So far, two others have joined Prowl in needing some shaping work with the files—Sunstreaker and Soundwave.

Because they went in a reblog and were probably missed by anyone paying attention (I hold no lofty ideas about how much attention my stuff gets, yo. 😂), I'll start with them here.

Ironhide, Megatron, Bumblebee (some spots of that yellow just did not want to let go), and Starscream. Amusing note: both Megatron and Starscream were painted with a silver base coat. Not so amusing? It was difficult to tell if I'd actually gotten it removed in places. -_-

Sunstreaker and Wheeljack. Just like Bumblebee, Sunny still has little bits of yellow that just would not let go. Wheeljack has tiny surface flaws that clung to tiny bits of white, too. But, they're clean enough.

Thundercracker and Shockwave! I despaired over either of them getting clean. The blue paint just did not want to budge and the purple on Shockers? Boy, that stuff was good, just badly applied. (And his underboob was a terrible spot to clean.)

And Optimus! His base coat was metallic red and that wasn't the worst color to get off, kind of middling really. He held on so long because I think he feared going gray again. 🤣 *slaps knee*

And just an hour or so ago, finally pulled out Soundwave and Ultra Magnus. Two very, very blue boys. Oof. Soundwave has so many tiny details, too, that it was even worse. He's still got quite a bit of blue, comparative to Magnus and TC, honestly. I don't really have the tools to get deeper, though, so he's good enough.

Also, if you look around his arm blaster, you can see where Sounders needs some shaping. Should be quick for him.

Same with Sunny. His head kind of slopes back into his backpack and that is just not gonna work for me. So, shaping he gets. 💛

Prowl's shaping is progressing. I've got maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of his wing free and have reached the point of needing to shape around where his arm should be.

Next update will come after the shaping is done and it's time for them all to get ready for painting.

Minifig repaint project, #2.

So, I've had them in the Bath for a week and been slowly pulling them out when the paint is ready to scrub off with a firm toothbrush. It's not a fast process, but it's working. And acetone won't hurt the metal. So, pros and cons is an ok trade off.

Where we are now:

Hot Rod, Prowl, and Jazz came out of the Bath first. There was a little paint left in spots, but easily taken off with a Q-tip and some nail polish remover.

Next was Arcee, Sideswipe, and Cliffjumper. There's a lot of details in the molds that was hidden by that bad paint. I'm excited to get to painting. Not starting that until after I get them all stripped, though.

Skywarp is also clean. We'll see if he remains Skywarp when I repaint, though. The Seekers are pretty interchangeable, after all. 😂

Also, due to the molds used, one of Prowl's wings had a full molding directly to his arm and blaster. I got some hobby files to free it. It's gonna take some time to complete, but I've got some control with the files that I wouldn't have with more powerful options.

Where that dip between the blaster and wingtip are used to be flat across. I've since doubled that amount of removal, but it gives an idea of what I'm working with.

Should go check the rest of them again now before I throw the rest of the day into writing. 😊

So I've gotten hold of the set of Transformers die-cast minifigs. They're a project in the works because the paint application on them is atrocious. My project? Strip the suckers and repaint. (I bought them entirely with the repaint project in mind, honestly.)

I've been keeping up with them over on my twitter, but I should probably toss the process stuff up here, too. :D

I'm not particularly intent on getting lots of pics, mostly just enough to see where I am in the journey.

Out of package pics pre-stripping! (Under a cut because it's a lot of pics.) Excludes pre-stripping Bumblebee because he was my test to see how well the stripping process I decided on would work, but includes Bee in the Bath because that's where he was while I took the rest of these.
