Just my personal experience,I'm an American Millennial born in the mid 1980s. l don't have and personal and/or collective memories about Diana's life/death. I didn't become aware of her until late 2010s when I was in my early 30s. I had to refer to history books to learn about her and was unimpressed with what I learned about her.

When I think of the 90s/early 2000s and what I can recall, I think of Oklahoma City, Columbine, Matthew Shepard, etc. The "defining moment" of my generation according to some sociologists is 9/11. I don't think of Diana as being a defining moment of the 1990s.

I personally think she won't be remembered that much in 15-20 years; she may even be mocked. For example, Google Generation Z and "Jackie Kennedy eats sheet metal". I think it her memory may morph into that as time goes on.

One would hope, but the story gets recycled every couple of years. The Crown will feature it in the next season, for example.
