Circa 1930s Racing Green Bentley 4.5 litre Blower as can currently be seen at Jack Barclay Bentley Mayfair, London. In 1953 Ian Fleming introduced the world to James Bond with his first novel - Casino Royale. The story of a brooding British agent in the throes of a thrilling tale encompassing international intrigue, trust, treachery, seduction and one-up manship. On the surface Bond is hard to read but Fleming sheds some light on the stoic man when he reveals Bond has a hobby. "Chapter 5 ... Bond's car was his only personal hobby. One of the last of the 4½-litre Bentleys with the supercharger by Amherst Villiers, he had bought it almost new in 1933 and had kept it in careful storage through the war. It was still serviced every year and, in London, a former Bentley mechanic, who worked in a garage near Bond's Chelsea flat, tended it with jealous care. Bond drove it hard and well and with an almost sensual pleasure. It was a battleship-grey convertible coupe, which really did convert, and it was capable of touring at ninety with thirty miles an hour in reserve." - Ian Fleming, Casino Royale 1953. Only 720 4½ Litre Bentleys were ever produced, all between 1927 through 1931 and Bond's 1930 Coupé would have been 1 of only 55 supercharged Blower Bentleys ever created and they were made for racing. Fleming had said he liked Bond to use "dashing, interesting things", an ethos that is still part of the Bond character, it's worth noting master engineer Amherst Villiers and Fleming were very good mates, a portrait he painted of Fleming still hangs in the National Portrait Gallery. From his first appearance in Casino Royale till the very last Ian Fleming Bond book published, Bond only ever owned Bentleys. Fleming wrote 12 James Bond novels and 2 short story compendiums. Bond drives a Bentley in 7 of Ian Fleming's books in the remainder he drives; rented, "loaned" or company cars. ⸺   it was only at the insistence of the other bartender she’d snuck out with, that jemma glanced over at whoever had rounded the corner of the building- the side of the red diamond she was regularly caught smoking, by her bosses that couldn’t seem to gather the nerve to fire her.  the sight of her father’s stature approaching the pair had jemma’s nostrils flaring in annoyance, huffing out the smoke she’d had caught behind her closed lips.  “what,”  jemma bit out,  “you didn’t find me inside so now you’re sniffing me out?”

june was supposed to have gotten home at least two hours earlier but the last call took longer than expected. some days were rougher than others, but she found it rewarding nonetheless. as she walked into the house, she dropped her back by the door, making her way into the kitchen to hunt something to appease her growling stomach. “hey.” she was surprised to find her dad there this late, but greeted him with a smile anyway. “I thought you’d be asleep by now.”

Motors: Bentley Mulsanne - LondonLux
Visit #JackBarclay #London for more details The #Mulsanne is much more than a pairing of #luxury with power. Its fearsome acceleration is felt not as a sudden blast forward, but as a smooth surge of seemingly limitless power. The character of the #V8 engine note, barely perceptible from inside the cabin while the #car is cruising, builds to a rich, powerful roar on acceleration when the throttle is opened wide. The Mulsanne benefits from a re-engineered V8 engine, providing extra range and improvements in efficiency of up to 13%. Yet with an 8-speed automatic transmission, providing uninterrupted acceleration through seamless gearshifts, there is no compromise on performance: the Mulsanne is capable of 184mph (296 km/h). With a wealth of handcrafted details, the Mulsanne has been built from the ground up around the concept of a peerless travelling experience. The Mulsanne also offers the widest range of colours and finishes in the #automotive world. There are over 100 exterior colours in four paint finishes to choose from, alongside 24 different coloured leather hides, and 10 veneers. It is always worth noting, however, that the #Bentley factory can match any colour you provide. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, a bespoke hue can be created just for you. This is a world where minute details make all the difference. This is the world of the Mulsanne. For more beautiful Bentley’s, go to: http://www.jackbarclay.bentleymotors.com
