Psssstttt do you happen to know the significance of the bracelet/band Barry wears in S1? In some close up shots it appears like it might have a reference to PSALMS in the Bible, but it’s hard to tell. I also don’t know if Barry wears it in S2, but I was wondering if you or anyone had any meta/thoughts about the bracelet. 💛

I went down the meta rabbit hole again and this a recap of the most important details.

Barry’s black bracelet:

Psalm 91:1 • Semper Fidelis

It’s a military memorial bracelet. The Psalm in the engraving is the Psalm 91, commonly known as the soldier’s Psalm or the soldier’s Prayer.

The first verse says, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

PFC means Private First Class. Knowing Barry was a Sergeant, Jack was probably in his squad and under his protection. He’s never mentioned or referenced besides the bracelet.

Barry kills Chris in 1x07 but he stops wearing the bracelet between scenes in 1x08. When Barry is with Sally at Gene’s lake house he’s not wearing the bracelet anymore, nor his watch.

Barry doesn’t wear the bracelet in S2, he only wears his watch.

Standing over her, seeing the paraphernalia spread over the floor, papers, dogtags, the fucking KIA bracelets, and the most heinous offense, his Beretta, Barry felt his pulse thunder in his ears. His Beretta, laying there, slide tossed to the side, spare magazine half loaded, dented box of 9mm open like a fucking happy meal carton, and he crouched swiftly, taking it hand and locking the slide in place, checking the chamber and dropping the magazine, shoving it in his pocket and pressing his eyes closed.

“The fuck are you doing digging around in my stuff,” was all that came out, quiet, measured, and she was full of voluble apologies. Look, I’m sorry, what more can I say? she pled, but all Barry saw was the face of Jack Gootsan staring back at him from the old photograph, the paper yellowed, scratched, her voice barely filtering through to his rising rage.

“This is private, Sally. I dunno what the fuck you thought you were doing, but it was wrong, okay, wrong. I can't believe -” He broke off, pressing both hands to his head, right hand still clenching the nine, pacing half a stride forward, then back again. “You need to leave, okay. You need to leave right now.”

the bracelet says "PFC Jack Gootsan, Psalm 91:1 – Semper Fi", it's nicely visible in 1x07. it may still be a plot point in season 3 tho

so lads, who’s on Barry’s KIA bracelet?

we’ve all seen the bracelet that Barry wears, and i’m sure by now, we all know that it’s a ‘Killed In Action’ memorial bracelet. but now the question is, whose is it? unless i’ve missed it on both of my watch-throughs, i don’t think it ever directly states it.

my initial thought was Barry’s. stupid, i know, but i thought it might link to how Fuches found a way to get him out of Europe. but if Barry was supposedly dead, then he couldn’t just go around using his real name. faking his death couldn’t have worked. it obviously can’t be Chris’ (duh), and he’s really the only war buddy that Barry brings up. if it was a friend from the war, i imagine they would have been brought up by now. could it be one of his **parents? perhaps, since they’re never talked about except for Fuches being a close friend of his dad’s. we have little to no background on Barry’s family, and maybe Fuches had a soft spot because he was a soldier too?and that’s how Fuches knew Barry’s father? it’s unlikely, but anything’s possible. idk, just talking outta my ass here.
