I think the Jacela thing annoys me because the people who prop it up as this great love story aren’t even the ones writing fic or doing meta, edits, anything. They just walk to tote it around as the “correct” ship, but they’re not even invested enough to make content 😭 Like so many other things in this fandom, it’s about being right, and not what you actually enjoy.

that's a very good point! why spend so much time high-horsing when you could be producing content for this ship you supposedly love so much? granted, not everyone participating in fandom is a fic writer, but, if it truly is a FLAGSHIP (lol), then it would have already attracted interested writers/artists. if not, well, then it must mean people just don't really care about it as much.

as far as edits go, they couldn't even if it they wanted to, because there was so little content in the show. as for META, i doubt they want to go there because of the uncomfortable implications of rhaenyra stealing the driftmark inheritance from the girls. it's easier to just claim they're a happy family and love each other without any resentment.

Jace had not seen Baela for two days now. Not since her prank had gone awry.

Normally if he had a great bruise or lump on his forehead, he would have gone to show Baela right away. Luke, at least, had been impressed.

He was in the library carefully doing boring sums all on his own. Jace thought it most unfair. He had missed two days of lessons because his head ached, but there didn't seem much point in getting to miss lessons if he had to make them up.

But Maester Gerardys had said it was his duty, so here Jace was.

He was surprised when he heard his stepfather's voice. For all Daemon had much to say about Valyria, Jace had never seen him in the library before. He was speaking to someone in a harsh tone, and when he appeared, he had Baela- her face mutinous - in tow, her father gripped her arm firmly.

"Apologise to your brother, or you won't see Moondancer for a week," Daemon said.

"Sorry," said Baela in a tone that indicated she didn't mean it at all.

"Good choice," Daemon said who was happy to accept the technical apology. He let go of her arm and stalked out of the library. The door slammed behind him.

Now Baela looked cross and sad as her father left.

"I never thought you meant to hit me with the bucket." Jace said He didn't like it when Baela was sad.

"No," Baela said. “Just the water! Like you got me."

In fairness the prank had been meant for Luke. Baela had raced ahead of them that day. It did not seem much of an excuse

"If you help me with my sums," he offered "I'll show you how to set that up so the bucket doesn't fall only spill." His father had shown him - a piece of string tied between the handle of the bucket and the door.

"Yes," said Baela eagerly. "Who will we get though? Luke and Rhaena are on their guard and won't go first through doors.”

Jace looked at the door that her father had just slammed, Baela followed his gaze.

She giggled, still in a mood with her father. "He won't blame me," she said. "Not if he isn't hit by the bucket."

"I know," Jace said. He would never get Baela in trouble on purpose. Even if she had given him a splitting headache.
