sellllllll it's meeeeee. hehehehehehehehehhehe
so for ur writing exercises.... deku + light? please? pretty please?
:3c
heheh heheh hehe niku. this will be the death of me. me writing izuku for the first time 🥲 i will only do this for you </3
contains: established relationship, spoilers for the end of the manga, aged up deku but sometime in between the final outcome (he doesn't get the h*** s*** from bakugo yet), mentions of sex and scars
deku + light
izuku only sleeps with the lights off.
it isn't uncommon; many people you know can't sleep with even just a sliver of light turned on somewhere in the room. but the difference with izuku, you learn, is not that he's unable to stand the light―it's that he refuses to.
you quickly pick up on it the first few times he sleeps over.
he fidgets in bed, pretty badly, actually. the nightlight you sleep with glows a warm yellow, illuminating the side of your face and coating him in its afterglow. you chalk it up to nerves, how he pulls at his sleeves and adjusts his position constantly; he is, after all, one of the most anxious people you know.
and this relationship―it's new. heck, even you feel a little jittery with his arm wrapped around you.
the rhythmic tapping on your hip only increases pace. you don't think he realizes it, so your hand gently reaches for his, intertwining your fingers as you turn around in his arms.
he's close, nearly touching you nose-to-nose; the proximity leaves you fuzzy, a little ticklish, so you giggle, a soft "oops," as the freckles dusting his face almost glisten under the warm light.
"hi," you whisper, meeting his eyes; they stare back at you wide in surprise, "can't sleep?"
he looks almost guilty at your question, as if you’ve caught him with the one thing he's been trying to keep from you.
"just—" his voice comes out louder than intended, prompting him to chuckle nervously as he readjusts his volume, "just winding down, sorry."
you inch closer, nuzzling his nose lightly, "it's okay."
"did i wake you?" he asks, cheeks flushing pink as his eyebrows furrow in immediate concern. his expression is something caught between stifling a grin and feeling sorry.
you shake your head against the pillow you share, strands of your hair tangling with his. "just winding down," you tease, watching as his gaze turns softer, eyelids drooping heavier.
sometimes, you think, izuku holds the world in his eyes―a deep, dark green, the color of life. most times, they look at you with wonderment, bright and alive; photos from inko tell you they're the eyes of his inner child.
on nights like this one, however, they hide a depth in them weighted by what you can only assume is time, and all that has happened to him in such a short span of it.
you try your best to understand what lies beneath them, knowing full well he'll never tell you outright what truly bothers him.
"is it the light?" you bring up, some time after laying in silence.
"hm?" he clarifies.
"do you have a hard time sleeping with the nightlight?"
his eyes widen briefly once more, as if shocked that you've caught him again. these split second reactions are ones you've learned to be attentive to when it comes to izuku.
"no," he tries to lie, but you know better as you turn to your nightstand and reach for its switch, "you don't–"
"it was hurting my eyes," you quickly make up an excuse, tucking yourself closer under his chin as you cut off his attempt to deny it again.
finding out that the light was the problem was the easy part—
you'd begun to notice much earlier on that izuku was barely rested on the nights he'd spend at your place. it was only when your old nightlight broke that you began to notice him waking up much later than you did, groggily rousing from a deep sleep.
—what was hard, was figuring out why.
at first, you suspected it was his scars.
"s-sorry, it's not—" he'd warned you, right as your hands gripped the hem of his shirt the first time you were about to have sex, "—it's not nice."
you didn't care though; you still don't care, and you've made that abundantly clear to him since. you love izuku and all his parts―all the nicks and jaggedy pieces of skin that make up who he is.
when you eventually ask him about it, with a request that he be honest with you for once, he tells you that it is and it isn't―the reason why he exclusively sleeps with the lights off, that is.
it's an odd, comforting relationship he has with his body—that he is simultaneously grateful and sorry for how its become a canvas, both painted and marred to symbolize japan’s historic last stand.
you find out the real reason when you catch him staring at his hands.
he does it often, when he thinks you aren't looking—his fists bunched up in the same way he used to watch the power of one for all course through his fingertips; the same way he used to prepare them in battle.
there’s a faraway look in his eyes that lingers, you notice—a little wistful if anything.
“do you miss it?” you finally ask. he gives you the same shocked look he does every time, as if he’s been caught with a secret he’s been trying to hide.
he’s learned a fair bit about you now, too, though—lying to you is futile when you’ve perfected reading his truth. he stares at his fists again as you take a seat beside him, moving to give you space. you rest your head on his shoulder gently, waiting.
“sometimes,” he admits, but you know it’s an understatement.
“i think about the vestiges a lot. i miss them the most, i think,” he continues, clenching his fists tightly, “i always try to reach out to them, but i guess it doesn’t work that way.”
“i… i try to replicate the right conditions every night, but…” then he lets go, stretching his fingers out wide. the scars on the surface ripple through his skin, telling its own story.
you hum, acknowledging what he means. silence sits with the two of you as you take his hand in yours, slowly unfurling his fingers until his palm reveals itself to you. it’s rough to the touch, seasoned with hard work and all that he’s been through.
“is that why you prefer the dark?” you ask softly, after some time.
it's not often that you stay up later than izuku does. when you do though, you catch him shifting in bed, moving from side-to-side. you pretend you aren't awake, but you hear him mumble their names, dwindling in volume as he dozes off to sleep.
he stares at his palm for a moment before he admits quietly, "yeah." his brows furrow as if contemplating whether to say more, but he shakes his head, dark green strands swaying to the beat of his embarrassed chuckle, "nevermind, it's silly."
"it's not."
you intertwine your fingers, sandwiching his hand between yours. a slight sheen glosses over his eyes as he tilts his head up to look at you. he draws in a breath, before it spills over.
"it's..." he finds the words, and you squeeze his hand in comfort, "it's easier to believe it was all real when the lights are out, and that maybe it can happen again."

i was reading through Conspiracy Bros AU and like... Izuku gets OFA and IMMEDIATELY tells Shoto+Dabi about it, so now, as the title of the AU implies, we've got these three feral gremlin children with the Conspiracy mindset and what is at some level the MOST OP QUIRK EVER. of course, all three immediately go into Hunt Mode and scour EVERYWHERE for any and all info on the past holders (because even if AM doesnt directly tell Izuku about them there's GOTTA be others) (1/?)
and so the moment Izuku gets his grubby lil gremlin hands on that hair he's downing it and pulling out The Notebook and reviewing everything he has about OFA's past users. meanwhile, the past users are getting settled into Izuku's body and then, THEN they realize what Izuku is holding and they have Mild Panic until someone (definitely Fourth because clearly the past users can still use their quirks inside OFA and Danger Sense would be going haywire if Izuku was Evil News) (2/?)
and Fourth goes 'wait... guys wait...' and slowly everyone comes to realize that NOT ONLY are they in a Feral Gremlin Child but they are in a Feral Gremlin Child who is going to do his damndest to cause AS MUCH CHAOS AS INHUMANLY POSSIBLE. and. being the kind, benevolent, TWO HUNDRED YEARS OF BOREDOM people they are, they give Izuku Float very quickly, especially once they realize the Bird Family shenanigans. Aizawa panics. Hawks is overjoyed. All Might is concerned. end of brain dump lol (3/3)
~~~
One of my favorite flavors of Izuku&Past Holders is when they all realize that holy shit we're ALL feral in here so fuck yes
Uh.. I'm not sure where mpreg and twincest are insinuated in my post, I just read somewhere on this site that there's pregnancy symbolism with One For All and the number 9
(Also, apparently Inko is 4th or 5th generation, so this post is just defunct then. I had remembered Garaki saying Inko was 8th generation, so I thought it was interesting Midoriya was OFA's 9th user while also being 9th generation)
Hey, if One For All has a thing with the Nine Months of Pregnancy, and such...
Then Midoriya, being 9th generation, would be the complete cycle of OFA, and the proper fruition of whatever Quirk he could have been born with, right?
*hint hint. DFO.*
HMMNGGGSHSHHSHD IM SO LATE TO THIS BUT THERES SO MANY THINGS IVE WANTED TO SAY FOR SO LONG AND IVE JUST BEEN TOO DEPRESSED OR BUSY TO DO IT
I did just re-read the chapter, hazbin/helluva hyperfixation is gone y’all I’m back and ready for more.
Okay so, a couple of things I noticed. Let’s start there.
Tumblr media
Throughout this chapter, it really is heartbreaking to see how Izuku regards one for all as Allmight’s power, and therefore a disrespect to him to give that away. Which is quite frankly insane given the nature of what the power is, but regardless it still shows me just how deeply he still cares for and admires allmight.
It also makes the transfer Izuku makes to Katsuki in the heroes rising movie all the more intimate; izuku wouldn’t just give the power to anyone, if not for himself (which is also clearly due to that fact since he still sees ofa as the thing that makes him a hero, not his characteristics), then simply out of respect for allmight and his legacy.
It’s just the anger you can see, feel in those words as he demands to know why. I’ve personally been in the boat of “Izuku dislikes Kudou immensely bc he hasn’t proven to be heroic and amazing like Katsuki has, and also he insults him a lot why would he like him”, since Izuku does genuinely have self respect (a common mischaracterization imo), he’s just also more forgiving and faithful to those he admires or loves (or both).
SPEAKING OF SELF RESPECT AND MISCHARACTERIZATION!
Tumblr media
I want to highlight the words “But even so, this boy refuses to throw in the towel”, bc it’s such an important part of Izuku and his character.
He isn’t overly self sacrificial, he isn’t a masochist, he isn’t even a martyr—especially not a martyr.
Izuku is stubborn. That is not the same thing as wanting to constantly die for others; izuku is like Katsuki, he wants to fight for others. Giving up just simply isn’t in his morality.
And if “giving up” also includes letting someone die or failing to save someone out of his own negligence, that’s not because he wants to die.
I can’t explain how much the interpretation that Izuku wanting to die, even for others, is so fucking out of character. Izuku is stubborn, he’s stubborn in the way that he won’t just fall over and let the ground take him. Given the circumstances, Izuku would fight for his life just as he would fight for another.
THIS HAS BEEN THE CASE SINCE, I DONT KNOW, CHAPTER FUCKING ONE?
Tumblr media
“Idiot! If I’d really jumped, you’d be charged with bullying me into suicide!! Think before you speak!!”
“Idiot…”
Like he’s so unaffected by the awful comment outside of being angry at the DISRESPECT of said comment. This is why all those damn suicidal Izuku fics have always felt so ooc. Izuku isnt a moody, brooding ball of depression, he’s a stubborn, courageous, and angry ball of depression. There is a difference.
Even before this, he literally attempts to say something or fight back to Katsuki, honestly it looks like he’s about to punch him here.
Tumblr media
The only reason he DOESNT is bc HE DOESNT WANT TO GET HIS ASS BEAT
Btw for anyone who has or ever will be in Izuku’s position, punch him. I love Katsuki But hit him in the fucking gut. If you get your ass beat at least you can say you can took it like a champ.
Speaking from someone who regrets not punching three girls who were trying to gang up on me in middle school🫶🫶🫶
Anyway, I’d argue that Izuku not taking Katsuki in a fight was made out of self preservation, something he very much has.
And last but not least, we get to this lovely fucking page.
Tumblr media
First of all…
Tumblr media
Hm, ain’t that strange?
I’m not saying it’s fully a parallel, I’m just saying it’s something to consider.
Especially with the context that I don’t think Izuku feels shameful here.
He’s been a hero who didn’t look like one once before, I’m sure a snide comment through Shigaraki is nothing in comparison to the literal hundreds of civilians afraid of him.
Or, even more interestingly, what if he’s shameful of it, and okay with that? Now THATS some control over your emotions. This is demonstrating the very thing Banjo told him in the first place; using his emotions to fuel him. Let himself live with them, breath with them. They exist, and they hurt, and that’s fucking okay.
But it begs the question…. Why bring attention to it?
Clearly horikoshi WANTS you to see that Izuku is the one who looks like the monster now. He even looks devil like, blackwhip coming out of his back the way it is just feels like wings.
But maybe… maybe this is how he stops sweeping problems under the rug. Maybe this is him, Izuku, at his most animalistic form. Him. At his core. This is the Izuku he doesn’t want people to know.
The faceless, long clawed, oozing black monster.
He’s a kid who can take a fucking beating. He’s not Deku the useless doll, nor is he Deku the hero. He’s simply Izuku.
And you know what’s even more likely?
Tumblr media
The black pit of anger that Shigaraki has formed, fueling his uncontrolled emotions and anger and despair, with the light tear showing something underneath…
What if, this was Izuku’s black ball of anger and shame, except this one is escaping his body, pouring out and showing all of that for what it truly is. Pent up rage, uncontrolled emotion, anxiety and shame, all mixed into one hell hole of a person—but a ball that can be molded, controlled, torn apart from the inside out.
See, the same way Kudou tears at Shigaraki’s mental breaking to see what’s underneath, so have the ofa users for Izuku. Slowly, but surely, the people in Izuku’s life have, while created that ball in the first place, also worked to destroy it. The final piece of the puzzle is for Izuku to choose to let it happen, and he is.
Learning to sit in one’s fear, doubt, hatred, anger, sadness, grief, happiness—without that emotion having to be something, simply something that flows through you, that you can choose to act on or not; this is where Izuku’s arc is coming to its tipping point. We are nearing the climax, I can feel it.
soft awkward izuku fluff
Tumblr media
izuku doesn't do this.
he doesn't like nightclubs, finding them too loud and crowded. with his line of work he's constantly on edge, so it's seeming impossible for him to "let go" in an environment like this.
he doesnt like hard liquor, preferring to sip a beer, or two, throughout the night because he'd always been a lightweight and he'd hate to ruin someone else's night by having them babysit him. kacchan's complained about it more than once.
he doesn't like small talk, it's not one of his strong suits. he can be a bit oblivious to social cues and tends to ramble incessantly about quirks, and all might and topics much too personal for polite conversations with strangers. he always ends up stammering out apologies and turning beet red when he gets "the look".
izuku doesn't do this.
he really did not want to go out tonight.
he really did not want to put on this dress shirt.
he really did not want to wait at the bar.
he turns around to look at his friend group. they're all laughing and carrying on with models and bottle girls that are desperate for their attention. even kacchan seems to be having a good time, probably recounting his victories and relishing in the way the girls linger to his every word. it's just not like that for izuku, he's always felt so awkward.
izuku doesn't do this.
he isn't some cassonova, like shinsou or sero, that can have a girl leaving with them before they'd even exchanged pleasantries.
he isn't cool or funny, like kaminari or kirishima, that can laugh a girl right out of her panties.
he isn't mysterious like shoto or confident like kachaan, whose mere existence is enough to attract a harem.
izuku doesn't do this.
he isn't his friends.
he's just--
"deku!?"
you're pretty, so so pretty; beautiful even. your smile is radiant; it leaves him breathless. your voice is angelic; like his own personal symphony. your eyes are kind; he could stare into them for hours. your body is amazing; you look so soft-- he wants to touch you in all the best, and worst, ways. your scent is hypnotic, it compliments you perfectly; he can't stop himself from leaning in-- it's like he's in a trance.
"wow, i can't believe i'm meeting my favorite hero! what can i get for you?"
he's your favorite hero? praise all might, he's blessed. to think that an angel like you had even considered his presence was astounding. if this was a different time, he'd worship at your feet with offerings of sacrifice and allegiance. you are the embodiment of all the beautiful things in the world that he'd sworn to protect. he doesn't even know your name but he's already named your three children and decided where you all would vacation in the summers.
izuku doesn't do this, because if he did he wouldn't have said that out loud and you wouldn't be giving him "the look". and fuck if he isn't mortified. can he not be a fucking nerd for once in his miserable existence ? maybe shinsou can brainwash him into forgetting how you flipped him off and called him a creep. his self deprecating mind can't handle that kind of torment on repeat.
izuku doesn't do this… and it seems like you can tell because why haven't belittled him ? why haven't you ran in the other direction? why aren't you giving him 'the look' anymore ? why are you smiling at him ?
"do i at least get to help plan the wedding? or was marriage not on the agenda?"
a joke.
that was a joke.
you were laughing with him, and not at him.
"of c-course you could help p-plan it but i think you should give me your number first".
he can thank the vestiges of OFA for that confident delivery because he was on the verge of passing out.
you whistled lowly, then bent down to grab two beers from under the bar.
"how about we start with names and see where the night takes us, huh? cheers".
izuku doesn't do this, but with the feeling of your fingers brushing his own as you hand him the drink lets him know that you're well worth it. he doesn't like his shirt, or this club but he likes you.
"cheers"
The only good thing about that chapter is the fact it means this horrible and disastrous arc will be finally and thankfully over and the manga will most likely end soon. Im really glad that Im not that invested in mha anymore otherwise I would be way more pissed off. Unbelievable how you can fuck up an final arc so bad and do your own characters so dirty.
Izuku deserved better.
Tomura deserved better.
Mr compress literally sacreficed his own ass for nothing. He deserved better.
Every single other lov member deserved better.
The ua students deserved better.
The ofa vestiges deserved better.
Afo deserved better.
The ONLY character hori paid attention to and cared about was that horrible written, ugly and screaming waste of space, who he calls his favorite character.
Listen, I get that the job of a mangaka is stressful and can have bad effects on your health. But that doesnt justify you should rush the end of the story and dissapoint your readers like that. That an author cant make everyone of his readers happy is logical, but with this chapter it feels like hori deliberately planned to piss off almost the whole fanbase and Im not sure he can turn this around again even with a twist in the next chapters.
Im a big dfo believer and I still think its canon. I believe hori will keep his promise when he said "you wont be dissapointed" when hisashi will finally be "revealed". But even if he confirms it at the very end, the rest of this manga was sadly still a huge dissapointment and waste of my time. Dont make one of your main themes "villains are humans too and deserve to be saved" if in the end they die anyway all alone and miserable or will end up in prison. Yes, they should face consequences for their crimes, but they cant become better people again, if they are DEAD! Dont choose a theme for your story if in the end you go against it!
Hi there! I stumbled across your mha deep dives and I just wanted to say thank you, it really helped me understand mha a little better!
It’s frustrating being in the western fandom because a lot of the specifically Japanese ideas are unknown to a lot of the Western audience. And i get it, as a westerner myself I had very little idea as to any sort of Important Context that would be clear to Japanese readers. So I really appreciate that you took the time to even try to explain it!
With that being said, I’ve been wondering how you viewed the end of mha, and how the villains were treated. Do you think they could have been saved (or even Should have)? Could they have been redeemed? It’s so depressing for the big three (Shiggy, Dabi, and Toga) to have been teased as being able to be saved, then in the end they all just,,,die.
How do you view Izuku losing OfA? Personally, I would have thought that if he didn’t keep the power he would have become the First Quirkless Pro Hero, (there are so, SO many fanfics exploring that!), but in canon he just,,,gives up? I suppose in the collectivist view, of course he would give up. But that feels so,,,empty from a western perspective. I suppose I answered my own question of why couldn’t he be a quirkless hero lol.
I suppose I’m truly wondering how the ending of mha was supposed to be recieved, with all the cultural knowledge and everything.
I am so sorry this feels so long and disjointed, and feel free to ignore this if it doesnt make sense! (Or if you don’t have any answers, sorry for putting all this on you)
I don’t have a super well-researched and cited answer, but I can follow my heart on this one.
The only villain I’m truly sad about is Himiko, though even in that case I appreciate that she went with dignity, she went with reciprocated love, and she died as she did because it was HER choice. While I would have preferred to keep Shigaraki alive, I can’t say I miss him all that much. And besides, he regained himself and his autonomy at the end and played a part in the destruction of the thing that held him down and even the thing on which his father’s cruel house was ACTUALLY built: All for One and his meddling.
Touya’s story is tragic, but his death and the way in which it will happen is a mercy. I think it’s great when other folks imagine new endings to suit what they like, but I don’t entertain other viewpoints about his on-the-page fate.
In any case, all three of their “hearts”, if you will, were actually saved in the way most important to them. And they even got to stick it to society by refusing to give up what they wanted and be integrated into it. Death is a pretty clean and irrevocable way to separate oneself from a society, and it is an effective way to haunt the minds and hearts of those who witness those deaths and have to understand that that the person who died hated so much the idea of joining society that much.
That isn’t exactly Toya, Himiko, or Shigaraki’s character motive, but I feel like it’s worth pointing out that other cultures can view death as a kind of revenge instead of someone just trying to make the pain of existing stop. Anyway.
I kinda figured that Izuku becoming a teacher was meant to be him accepting his place in the world and indeed accepting reality now that his dream was over, which is seen as a mark of maturity to just get on with what he’s given. That Kacchan specifically spearheaded the development of his suit and was the one to hold out his hand isn’t just a character moment to show how Katsuki intends to continue to atone, I don’t think. I think it’s also because:
A) Katsuki is Izuku’s link to and representation of the quirked world, and specifically the quirked world of Heroes. He always has been, as he’s the person “closer to [Izuku] than All Might.” As long as he exists, Izuku is tethered to that world somehow and has a way to enter/re-enter it somehow.
B) Relatedly, I interpret Katsuki as an embodiment of individual will and individual’s heart’s desire continuing to remain true in the face of the collective (even after he begins to accept and work with the collective), so it makes sense that he’s the one to pursue and nurture Izuku’s “selfish” and outlandish dream of being a superhero even while Izuku himself falls in line. Put another way, Katsuki is, in many ways, an embodiment of Izuku’s heart’s desire - mostly because the two of them have the same heart’s desire.
Though, speaking as a Westerner as well, Izuku’s choices at the end of the manga don’t sit well with me, either, but this is just as much part of why I’m too much of a westerner to completely see eye-to-eye with Izuku throughout the story as it is a comment on the ending.
Most of all, I think it’s ridiculous that Hawks didn’t get Izuku’s Hero suit funded/in development the minute he took the position at the SPC, or that whatever was left of the Hero system before that happened didn’t already have it in the works. It strikes me as EXTREMELY weird.
I have other thoughts about Izuku and Katsuki’s ending, but they’re mostly reflections about other shonen manga past than anything meaningful to say here.
hi! i saw you make bnha critical posts and i hope this doesnt sound rude and you arent obligated to answer this but whats your opinion on the big 3?? when i was super fixated on bnha they were my faves lmao and iwanna hear more opinions about them, still mad about how they did nejire sooo dirty
Ah these characters... I remember seeing them so much on my tiktok that it only serves to make the canon versions of them more pathetic. So let's go over each of them shall we?
Amajiki: Let's start with the shy boi first. Honestly, he's a big fat mood for us introverts... but that doesn't mean I can't talk about THAT scene!
I don't really have a lot to say about him compared to the other two since I think his character is fine enough, but what I WILL say is that he's done so dirty when it came to Bakugou blowing him up.
Yeah. That fucking happens.
That is something Hori wrote and drew because he probably thought it would be funny.
Amajiki was rightfully scared to death of him and tried to get away, but Bakugou caught him and literally blows him up because he refused to fight him.
And again, this is all played for laughs and no one gets on to Bakugou for going overboard... not even Kirishima who should've been angry at him for hurting someone he's been getting close to!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow! Glad to see people have their priorities straight here! And other than the occasional comment that gets what's wrong here, This once again shows how desensitized the fandom has become to Bakugou's behavior to where they think this is funny and nothing to be concerned about.
Because if Bakugou was THIS harsh during practice, imagine how it would go against an actual villain wanting to surrender.
Nejire: Oh Nejire, my sweet girl... Out of the trio here, Hori has done you the dirtiest.
Much like his other female characters in his story, you're only made to be fanservice and to just stand around and look pretty for boys to fawn over. To where your only shining moment was in a fucking beauty pageant, and not to mention Hori not even giving you a hero name while the other two get them.
You deserve so much better and to be just as well written as them.
Mirio: Honestly I don't have a lot of strong feelings for him since he's pretty simple.
He's meant to be who All Might could've chosen as a successor, but shows he doesn't need OFA to be a better hero as he strives to do it on his own.
But what gets me about him the most is that he never found out about Nighteye trying to groom him into being All Might 2.0 and his plan to get Izuku to give up OFA... and is now left to think of him fondly.
These three deserve so much more than what canon has given them, and with how much Hori screwed them over... it's better to just read fanfiction that expands on their characters.
Hey, on the topic "quirks are diseases" again, I do think it would divided people here. Bc if you are born with Momo's quirk, wow, you made in life.
If you are born with Mineta's quirk? Tough luck.
But here a few things I want to say:
1) I talked about Rede and yes he wouldn't like people thinking quirkless are better( I think is lile at best 5% of people who do have powerful quirk) and soon a civil war would happen. Well, a dude who has a powerful quirk will be "liberate" in using 100% and envy speaks loud. Rede's end goal makes no real sense but is better than afo.
2) how the quirks came to be? Like overhaul was spreading this theory. So he lie...meaning people could have acess to this info. Quirkless are healthy one...does all schools teach about that?
3) if so, why Izu was abused? Ok say Aldera is mega shitty and never taught that. Ok. Still doesnt justify how shitty Izu was treated and he was healthy among his peers.
4) I have a hc now...that quirks users have a short lifespan compared to quirkless. Again, an intetesting concept hori wont touch with a 10 feet pole.
5) what this revelation proved? Nothing, aside Hori shitting on Izu AGAIN.
6) ok so...I do think Hori was influced by MCU but then started seeing the boys...and fails miserable. The boys does take dark concepts and explores (spoiler: they have a drug that can kill supers) it has a built up and consequences. Hori? Shits on Izu and wanks Bk's dick.
Like to sum up, this chapter proves how Izu shouldnt have been treated like that and he would be better off not being a hero. I just saw a sgdk fic where Inko - in an angst moment where she is right- asks in tears why Izu's dream has to cause him harm? Why he cant have anothet dream? Fair. He wants help people? Doctors exists. Fireworks too.
To this day I dont get why the MC wants to be a hero.
Bk? I know why ...and hate how it makes sense.
Hi @mikeellee 👋,
I think even if born with Mineta's quirk, you'd be set for life. The grape is cowardly but you can't deny his quirk could be highly useful as a hero. But I do get your point, quirks are a sickness no one wants a cure for.
1) ReDestro wanting people to be liberated in using their quirks makes sense - however the practicality of this not so much.
2) I bet schools (especially if some are hunting grounds for MPA recruitment) do not teach that quirkless are the 'healthy ones' because that wouldn't benefit them in any way.
3) Canonically, Bakugou being an abusive little shit is the main reason for Izuku being abused for being quirkless (although he even abused him before that point - being quirkless just have Bkg more fuel to torment him with.)
4) that's an interesting plot point - one Hori wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. But under a better writer, resentment from quirked people over them not living as long as the quirkless would make sense.
5) the revelation of quirks being from a virus meant nothing! Nothing at all! It only harmed the story - and added a heavy bias against AFO and OFA's nameless, homeless sex worker mother (thanks Hori *sarcasm*).
6) Hori may have been inspired by other superhero stories but fails in incorporating the origins of quirks in MHA.
Despite going to UA being how Izuku met his idol and friends - being a hero has only brought Izuku suffering, canonically speaking, he would have been better off doing anything else to help people.
I hate how MHA and Izuku's story has become THIS.
AU where Midoriya has a shark mutation Quirk
sharky boy!
1- Izuku has many shark-y characteristics, including multiple rows of very sharp teeth that he never has to brush, a dorsal fin, and skin that dries out rather easily. In order to be able to not be crushed by his own weight, Izuku does have bones and isn't all cartilige- but more cartiliage than a quirkless human for sure.
2- i dont know if he's a houndshark or catshark or leopardshark or whaleshark or some unindentifiable kind BUT hes def a kind with spots and speckles in place of his freckles.
3- His second favorite hero is Gang Orca, but All Might's still number one. he also honestly gets a little put out with how everyone expects Gang Orca to be his top favorite just because of how he looks, and not because Gang Orca is an incredibly talented hero who deserves it
4- Katsuki used to declare Izuku an adequate sidekick or slightly lower hero- able to reach double digit rankings one day, but not going to be able to beat him as the next Number One, and he was allowed to play hero with them as any other, but then Izuku annoyed him when he stopped him from going after weaker kids or derided them for their quirks, so Katsuki pushed back and they sorta... ended up with opposing cliques in middle school. Izuku doesnt really think its a clique and honestly doesnt dislike Katsuki so much as he's disapointed, but most mutation-type quirk kids flock to him, as well as though he defends or people too annoyed with Katsuki, where others flock to Katsuki. The teachers at Aldera are torn between seeing them both as troublemakers or potential heroes, so treatment swings wildly between classes.
5- After Mirio says 'no thanks' to OfA and the other 2 big three turn him down, All Might decides the third-years don't need it and bides his time to see if any other kids in the other grades make an impression. After the USJ, where Izuku planned with Tsuyu for him to get the lake villains to chase him away from the boat while she deployed their impromptu weapons and nets, and later bit two of Shigaraki's fingers off, he has... certainly made an impression.
Heroic Cultivation: Follow-up question, the fuck is hisashi? Also i just love the idea of AFO trying to steal OFA and learning this kid doesnt have a quirk…. And then getting smote outta nowhere
He's a snake! Animals who live long enough through some means (such as Cultivation) can take on human form! This also technically makes him a Snake Demon. His snake form is now significantly larger than it was before, by which I mean he could eat a car. As Izuku gets older he'll start to gain some of that shapeshifting as well
Midoriya: "Oh that happens to you too?" All For One: "The fuck."
Look as much I like Shig....goddamn I want to punch him. After all happened, he is still a broken record? "I will destroy all" like my guy...please, try to be a character here.
He wants to fight Izu that much...bc????????
What they have to link them for an epic battle. Izu knows almost nothing about him.
Ok Shonen.
But Shig stealing a quirk from Izu...its just Hori saying "😒eww Izu" and make this more harder than it must. But giving credit hori doesnt deserve...What if ofa can also get a quirk from afo as well? They are twin quirks.
Imagine Shig losing decay?
Will this happen?
No.
Hori hates his mc. Its most likely Izu will die (to put a big smile on Hori's face) or get injuried again, or he lost his quirk and lives like a hermit like that damn poem Hori loves...or both die.
I cant see a happy ending for Izu.
And Shig? In canon??? No. He should be killed. There nothig to save here, nothing. Even if afo the quirk does smth against Shig...killing is still the best option.
Yeah even at this point, the Izuku Shigaraki fight seems so underwhelming. Like, the MC and main villain were brushed to the side for fetus AFO and Bakugou.
I don't think Izuku would kill him... Unless Hori's going to spin that as his way of "saving" him. Then all of this would have been for nothing
How do you think toshi reaching the tomura vs izuku fight would go? For his next "role" in this arc, would he be there physically, through his aura might, or some other way? Id love to see him talk to tomura and witness izukus I am here! moment, but im guessing all that will happen in the vestige world, since he doesnt seem to be near them and idek if he can walk at all in order to reach them. (Additionally, I also hope izuku and toshi will get to have a proper, private and emotional talk after all this. For my dadmight feels ㅜㅜ since their reunion in 327 was honestly disappointing but we'll see!)
Can't say for certain at this point, but I feel like OFAFO shenanigans are going to happen and Toshi's momentary manifestation as a "full" vestige is going to end up being relevant (possibly through giving him the ability to "see" the other vestiges and what's happening in the vestige world instead of merely "feeling" it, the same way Tomura is now able to see them due to the resonance between OFAFO).
Before that, I also think that it's possible that the fight is going to be brought a little bit closer to where Toshi is-- Tomura is playing it cool atm ("No no no this is fine I'll just break them all as many times as it takes :) :) :) *very conspicuously scratching his neck*), but both he and AFO are currently malding over the fact that Toshi and Bakugo were saved, and I feel like this "mutual" hatred is gonna be part of what lets AFO take over Tomura again-- and after this happens, I wouldn't be surprised if he starts heading towards Toshi again.
Kurogiri/Aizawa also seem like they're going to play a big role by using erasure/warp at a key moment (probably to stop Tomurafo from unleashing a mass decay-wave in an attempt to kill everyone in the area?), so they're both kind of a wild card that could potentially warp Toshi closer to Tomura/Izuku or warp him away if need be.
(Additionally, I also hope izuku and toshi will get to have a proper, private and emotional talk after all this. For my dadmight feels ㅜㅜ since their reunion in 327 was honestly disappointing but we'll see!)
Yeah, same. Looking at the Iron Might chapters as a whole, I feel like the lack of a heart-to-heart between Toshi and Izuku regarding their falling out during the dark hero arc might've been intentional. Toshi attempting to kill himself to protect Izuku reads as the consequence of these two not sitting down to actually talk about their feelings imo:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I definitely think we'll be getting an open and honest conversation between the two before the story ends. Toshi is more to Izuku than just his mentor, and Izuku is more to Toshi than just his disciple-- and them breaking free from the obligations that come with "being a symbol/hero/mentor/ect" should be cathartic for them both & allow them to both be more honest with themselves/each other and the fact that they both just want to be a part of each other's lives. Even if Toshi has nothing left to teach, even if Izuku doesn't have OFA.
Hey, weird comparison might be a stretch
Okay angy-grrr (yes I’m name dropping you and I’m not sorry <3333) I think made a comment a while ago about how this whole thing between Afo and Yoichi felt incestual, and I’d be inclined to agree.
However, however however however, I do have a few bits of commentary on that sentiment. Specifically in relationships to this scene specifically.
Tumblr media
And, alright, no this is not some bs like “pro incest” or whatever, you can talk about topics that are taboo and not necessarily agree with them. I understand that I’m a shipper but I’m inclined to follow my nose where it leads, and my nose says here. So.
We’ve established a lot that the kanji horikoshi used when Izuku says “Give him back!” Is very possessive. Like an ownership over an item.
Okay, because Izuku and afo share one very weird trait—possessiveness. And for literally a month I’ve written and rewritten a post about how I just can’t get behind the idea of Katsuki paralleling afo, because it just doesn’t fucking make sense.
What is it telling us? That Katsuki has become a better person? We already KNEW THAT. The Kudou parallel says something, it says that Katsuki rises ABOVE the fate of the OFA predecessor because he and Izuku accepted their hearts.
Not only that but what is it exactly that we’re paralleling? Afo is defined by ownership (an Izuku trait), an unreliable narrator (also an Izuku trait)—in my opinion, horikoshi isn’t that simply Willy Nilly about parallels. It’s not about shipping to me rn, I’m literally comparing him to Izuku and how Izuku obsesses over Katsuki, IT JUST DOESNT MAKE SENSE.
Besides, wouldn’t this parallel be made significantly earlier, when Katsuki was still acting like an asshole? The kudou parallel was made literally from the start of his introduction, just because he looked so much like him. We didn’t know why this was the case, theories were thrown, and we’re only being told NOW why this parallel exists. But it was built, very carefully, and served a purpose.
And, to add onto this parallel of at the very least afo and Izuku, the portal is very similar to the floating hand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Especially with the reminder that Katsuki was taken away by dabis hand on his neck (hands always have symbolism in this series after all, it always has a purpose)
If someone, anyone really, could show me some genuine evidence of afo and Katsuki parallels that isn’t just “Katsuki was selfish about Izuku when they were younger” then by all means
But to me, along with the fact that Katsuki called himself IZUKUS NICKNAME, right before a chapter where afo talks about NAMING YOICHI, ummmmmmmm… I gotta say. Things ain’t looking so great in that evidence department. I guess you could argue that Katsuki did the same thing with deku, but deku hasn’t even been said these past few chapters and Kacchan has so????? Idk.
Anyway, this weird overly attached, incestual, codependent relationship is really fascinating to me. I’m not so inclined to say that Izuku and afo are the same since they very obviously aren’t, izuku is just toxic in his silly goofy ways, but I think it’s an interesting thing to point out.
It almost feels like a “fuck you” to people who have been saying Katsuki and Izuku act like brothers for years. Maybe like Horikoshi is saying, “well I guess if they’re brothers they’re incestual too :)”
And that’s gotta be the biggest power move I’ve ever seen. “Oh you wanna read this relationship in that light? How about I show you what that light would look like if it were true :)” AND LIKE. WOW.
I know anime is not new to incest, but I don’t think this is the “random incest for funsies” type of incest, I think this is the incest built off of actually talking about the taboo. The weird. The not so great things we’ve done as humanity, but that exist anyway. Because mha WANTS to talk about the taboo, things we find morally wrong and therefore don’t belong in our stories, but that just makes them all the more incomprehensible were it to be happen in the real world. Art is made to talk about the stories we wish remained unfinished.
Unless presented with contradicting evidence i arbitrarily declare that Izuku is the third musketeer reference in the CC-verse since stockpile guy doesnt exist
OH YEAH NO LIKE
One of the reasons I do have the 'Dad for One/Izuku inherited AfO's Quirk' thing is just fucking the fuckin
AfO and OfA are two halves of a whole and the idea of somehow the stars align to have someone get both Quirks is just *chef's kiss*
Hi. Many fans disappointed with new chapter. I see many complaining. I am more pissed because of Bakugo.
I am now sure that in next chapter Izuku will be catched by Ochako or sonehow Shigaraki give Izuku OFA back or his original quirk. Dont know.
How do you think DFO will be revealed then Shigaraki and AFO destroyed? Both spirituality and phisicaly.
Well, its no wonder people are upset after that shitfest of a chapter. That propably was the most anticlimactic final bossfight I have ever seen in a manga and after all the talking how izuku wants to safe tomura, dude just dies and izuku is fine with it. He just failed his attempt to save the person he wanted to save the most, but hey I guess the fistbum makes up for it (it does NOT!) Im actually curious how the japanese fanbase reacted to all of that.
I mean, of course hori had to force bakugou in it for a final time. Hes his golden baby boy afterall. Izuku cant do anything without bakugous or other peoples help. He is not allowed to shine on his own in his own fight against the main villain in HIS story. Nope, bakugou needed to help to give the final blow to afo TWICE, because HE is the true VIP of mha! I have actually seen quite a few bakugou fan who were not happy about it. If even his FANS complain about how forced and unnecessary that part was, maybe hori should ask himself if his staning for that one specific character is not going a little bit to far. I mean, seems like we just were all dumb. At the beginning of the story we were told izuku is a useless loser because he cant do anything without the help of others and in the end it turns out it was true. How could we not see that comming? The mc was not allowed to defeat the main villain himself and needs others, espicially his abuser to help him. Wow, what a great message! And the most depressing point is that hori was clearly trying to make that look like a positiv thing. There is one thing I can say for sure. I will never touch any work from hori ever again.
If this was really the conclusion of the final fight, then congratulation hori, you managed to write a more rushed and horrible conclusion for your story, then tite kubo did with bleach (which to be fair was not kubos fault but shonen jumps). Hori did literally EVERY SINGLE character except bakugou dirty and in the end even startet to write against his own established themes in the story.
Regarding dfo: I already mentioned it a few times in the past. Im still positiv dfo is canon BUT I also said I dont think anymore that dfo will end in a satisfying way. Which actually goes against what hori said, that readers wont feel dissapointed when he reveals hisashis true identity. But, right now I dont see how hori plans to manage that even with a twist. Even if lets say the clone theory ends up true (which would be hilarious because I was JOKING when I came up with it), it still would feel like so much wasted potential. And the thing is, while it would make me happy if it turns out true I would still be mad about all the rest hori fucked up which would make it impossible for me to enjoy the dfo reveal. And as much as I love dfo, if it turns out the afo clone theory is true and hisashi is the real afo who gets a happy ending while tomura stays dead and doesnt get one after everything afo did to him and the rest of the lov stay miserable too, I will still give hori the middlefinger. The only way I would be able to enjoy it is if hisashi ends up as the afo clone who choose a different path then his original body. It would still make dfo canon just in a unexpected way and it could be interesting to see in hisashi that afo COULD have been happy if he had choose a similar way.
I dont know, maybe in the end there is really some kind of twist involved. Shonen jump still hasnt announced that mha will end in the next few chapters and normally they do that at least 5-10 chapters before the final chapter. Maybe we are just panicking over nothing and hori has everything planned out perfectly. Maybe there is more to come. We really cant say for sure. There are still some plots who need answers and I cant see how hori wants to conclude everything in just 2 more chapters. On the other side this final arc was horrible rushed, even more horrible written and all in all a big dissapointment and waste of a lot of peoples time.
Who knows maybe thats why there is a break next week. So hori can wait for the reactions of the readers and include whatever twist he may think could work.
