Marz was living in her own drama, story, and dance and for a good chunk of her childhood she did not know.
She lives and dies and lives and dies.
(There are pieces where she knows but doesn't and yet)
She lives she dies she lives she lives she lives
she dreams
Marz dreams of pollen thicker than air. Marz dreams of a dog boy with a grin sharper than his heart.
Marz dreams of shattered walls and wailing friends. She dreams of a collapsed Tangent, older than she should be.
(Marz finds trinkets and the dreams linger)
Marz put together a puzzle of her creation. She does not know until she does.
She does not know for a long time.
(Eventually, one day, the puzzle will be complete and her plan will unfold brighter than a dream)
Marz lives one life and fails to usurp Lum. She leaves hints embedded in the colony printer for her next life that follows the cycle.
In another, Marz ventures outside the walls once as a child. She doesn't remember now why but she saw Dys in his element and thought there was Something here for someone.
She took a piece of wormwood and buried it near the entrance of the Depot, where she later found a wormwood sapling growing three lives later.
There are many, many pieces Marz lays out and finds and removes and places again and they do not make sense in isolation.
They're echoes. They're easter eggs.
In one life, the puzzle leads Marz to following Tang's lead. She works in the lab even though at first she hates it but...
But she's clever, and knows things, and it frustrates Tang to no end.
(They are very loud about it behind closed doors.)
She twists and turns the threads and the sequences and all that is science under her nails.
(She is plotting)
In another life of the whirlwind of the wormhole, Marz is drawn to Engineering and the chaos Nomi-Nomi brings when Helios lands.
(All the while, amongst the whirs of gears and dying robots, Marz is hearing Congruence's heart beat through the colony)
Marz is building a new pathway.
Every hidden note, every new plotted life.
She has brokered peace on Vertumna before, she has brought peace to all the kids she grew up with but...
It keeps going. The cycle never ends.
In some life, at some point Marz had decided there was a way to end the cycle.
To blast past Vertumna before entering the wormhole, to cut the tie she had at its root.
(The root, of course, was not entering it, but most lives she did not and could not know this)
But Marz builds and connives and finally, one starfield cycle on Stratos, she changes the course.
They are no longer bound for Vertumna. As the ship drifts farther away - with Congruence hiding the anomaly as long as possible as a favor to the little "social engineer" - Marz feels her dreams fade away.
It is when the adults realize at the point of no return and set sights on another far off planet that Marz' dreams speak to her again.
She escaped one wormhole only to fall into another.

A list of my IWATEX AUs and fanfics.
Since a lot of people have found me through IWATEX, I figured I should probably make an actual list of my AUs and fanfiction, just to have them all in one place.
Fragmented Futures - aka. the Everyone Knows AU
Probably the one most of you are here for, since it's the one I've posted about the most, but written the least for in terms of actual fic. An AU in which all of the Stratos-Helios kids suddenly become aware, that they're stuck in a timeloop... all except Sol. Or so the others think.
A story full of kids being friends, learning new stuff about themselves, and a generous dash of eldritch shenanigans.
Currently in the works for this AU: an as of yet "non-canon" vent-fic, in which I subject Sol to something a little more realistic than my usual treatment of them. Not sure if it'll be incorporated into the fic proper, but as of this point in writing, it's just meant to be a little side-thing set in the same universe.
The Tragedy of the Exocolony on Vertumna IV
The AU/fanfiction that has me in a chokehold at the moment, TOTEOV is an eldritch horror story that takes all my love for Sym and the Overseer, flips it upside-down, and turns it into a toxic mess of good intentions gone horrifically wrong. Oh, and Rex and Vace are forced to work together.
A story that draws heavily on the tropes of children stolen away by the supernatural, such as The Pied Piper of Hamelin and other fae tales.
Heed the tags. Seriously.
The Solution AU
An AU I've never really mentioned here except once, nor written a single word for. Ironically, this is actually the origin AU of TOTEOV.
The basic premise is that Sol, after many trips around the loop, decides to look for a permanent solution. They eventually decide that the best way to do so, is for them to become a Gardener from the very beginning and create an entirely new timeline from scratch. In collaboration with the Overseer, they turn the clock back to just before the Verma's departure and get implanted in the system as a seed to sprout in the future.
The issue is that this means Solanaceae won't ever have existed amongst the humans. And they're fine with paying this price, if it means a more harmonious future overall.
So aboard the Stratospheric, when that time comes, there is no child born to Flulu and Geranium, no cheerful Sol amongst the kids. Instead, when Besk dies, the twins are adopted by the cultivators and grow up... not quite the same as in the original timeline, but also not too different from how we know them.
And on Vertumna, Sol welcomes humanity to guide their gradual integration into the ecosystem. Looking from afar, forgotten by everyone they love except the Gardeners.
......except this is one of my AUs, so of course nothing is as it seems, and Sol will re-learn just how strong the power of love is.
The Person You'll Grow to Be - completed, canon-compliant fanfic.
My first fanfic for this fandom. Aka the Flulu Loves Her Kid So Much fic.
A story going from Flulu learning of her pregnancy all the way to her death during the famine. An tale of her love for Sol and how she felt about a lot of things.

stayed up till 6am playing exocolonist. when are my mutuals going to get into exocolonist.
it’s a visual novel/trading card game available on steam (though you have the option to turn off the card game if it’s not your thing.) it’s got everything: cast of characters that’ll make you cry, the joys and griefs of coming of age, romanceable alien boy made of fungal spores, very series of unfortunate events “the adults cannot be trusted here” vibes, coups, plagues, society building, everyone’s queer and a good amount of the characters are poly, a psychedelic colorful alien world that wants to eat you, and most importantly Small Choices That Change Everything. game of the decade!!!! (the full name is “I was a teenage exocolonist” but don’t let the silliness fool you: this game WILL make you gasp & cry. and there are also fart jokes.) you can choose your character’s gender, pronouns and name!
WAIT. my farscape mutuals specifically have GOT to get into exocolonist. it’s like if farscape was teenage and pastel and just as fucked up. please.

the great thing about fanfiction and headcanons is just making shit up for fun. playing with plot points like dolls.
it’s extra special here because are is there really such a thing as an “alternate universe” if the basis of the story is living through repeated, alternate universe lives?
like, yeah, a lot of plot points are static. but maybe we’re just not being shown the lives where they aren’t, so we as players have a more stable base for exploring the themes of choice, morality, and connection.
all this, of course, as a way to say “i’m going to be pulling plot points out of my ass to justify self-indulgent headcanons and it’s impossible to prove it did not canonically happen off-screen”

I love the energy here! ❤️
So to the people who follow me for the Exocolonist AU, I rarely ever post about...
Fine. I'll do it. I don't know when it'll be done, but I'll do it. I'll write something for it.
Now what in the world am I calling this...
The heartbreak your brain feels when something has been living rent-free in your head and there is absolutely nothing made for it anywhere online

I Was A Teenage Exocolonist fandom: which POV do you prefer when it comes to fanfiction?
Usually second person POV fics are a no-no for me as a reader for other fandoms, but considering that the game is already written in second person, it's fine.
#i was a teenage exocolonist#célyne talks#I'm kinda curious about if people like me who loathe 2nd person pov are fine when it comes to iwatex#iwatex

hi :) got into iwatex recently and really enjoyed your posting about it! there's so much obscure stuff i never found out about and probably would never have if not on Tumblr. and also didn't know their stuff was all plain text, storing that in my pocket to write fanfiction on lol (t. this started as a joke, but can you actually...?)
OH and while I'm here can i ask if your wiki project was abandoned? noticed it was giving an error of some sort
I've been too sick and behind on bills to actually focus on fixing it, I'm afraid. I would like to get around to it, but I get frustrated and panicky when I try...
That said, you can absolutely write IWATEX fic. There's an ao3 page, and I'm always interested in reading more!

Tammy frolicks through her dreams of sugar and softness and all that is good.
Except for the dreams filled with teeth and dimness and all that is horrifying.
She doesn't like those dreams.
She cries to her dad in the mornings and then at the creche, she buries herself in games of house with Cal and fanciful plays of morals and child ingenuity alongside Anemone and Marz and Sol.
(Once Tammy came crying and said too much and all of the other kids scrunched their faces and were so sad and scared)
(Except Dys who blinked and gave her an odd look)
(Tammy hates that she made her friends cry)
Then the wormhole arrives and Tammy sobs. She knows but doesn't know and knows and and and -
crack crack crack
It takes two weeks for Tammy to wake up. Her dreams had been blurry and dark and while she cried a bit waking up, it had...been nice, in a dark way.
She doesn't tell her dad. He fussed enough about her healed concussion and broken arm.
(Her arm clicks for the rest of her life. No. Lives. The break is something she does not escape)
Tammy settles in as best she can. She ignores Vertumna, even as she watches Cal become besotted with the dirt, as her other friends and former playmates find their niche, and she throws herself caring for the little ones in the creche.
Except Sol is listless and wandering, and something twists in Tammy. Something clicks in her dreams.
(Tammy dreams of hunger and broken walls)
(Tammy dreams of spongey dirt)
Sol has always listened with a soft smile to everyone of the colony. They even held Tammy's hand after a nightmare when Tonin was beyond the walls.
Tammy goes to Sol and away from listening ears, tells them what's been happening. How the dreams feel real. How she's sure they will all be hungry soon.
Sol listens with wide eyes, and then tells Tammy to meet them outside the walls in a couple of days. Sol knows someone who can help.
(Tammy dreams of silhouettes that are human-not-human and she begins to understand)
Tammy finds the pipe Dys and Sol have been using. Dys scoffs at her, but hurries away. Sol is not there, but Tammy crawls out and waits.
And waits.
And waits until a human-not-human silhouette appears.
Tammy is afraid but she's not and -
And the dreams click and whir -
And Tammy-not-Tammy recognizes but doesn't and -
Sol is not here.
The Vertumnan without a name is. And Tammy listens.
The planet has existed before humans and will exist long after and right now, her colony's very existence hangs in the balance.
There are plans for how to deal with the new neighbors from the Vertumnans.
And so begins Tammy's adventure.
She seeks out the Vertumnan when she can, occasionally being caught by her father who wonders at her newfound bravery. He doesn't want to encourage her to be so terrified of the world again, but he doesn't want her wandering outside.
And so Tammy wanders.
She follows Dys' shadow to the edge of the wild. She slips away from Cal's sight on the farm.
And Sol? Sol helps her.
Sol meets the Vertumnan, remarks how different they are, but they seem nice. And only a little less cryptic than Sol's good Vertumnan friend.
(Tammy will one day and could now and shall never meet Sym, all on the choices and dreams and only once does she say the name before the meeting)
(And only once since landing does Sol give her a bewildered look)
And so it begins. Tammy learns of the fauna and planet.
The colony struggles.
Tammy learns pieces of the planet's long history.
The colony is attacked.
Tammy's gives an offer.
(In the distance, another ship grows closer and closer)
During the fifth Glow since landfall, the colony is under siege like never before. Sol is with Tammy in the creche, protecting the little ones.
Sol is injured. Tammy remembers the offer.
"Come away with the little ones. We don't all hate you."
Here lies Tammy's most important choice.
She knows in her bones that if she calls for her friend, calls for help in her quietest voice, they can be whisked away.
But she could bandage Sol, and keep the children away from the worst of the destruction.
The creche shakes.
If Tammy chooses the colony, she will never see her friend again. She will be injured, and she and Sol will awake to a new colony and a new rule.
(She will hate and love the Helios in turns - they can protect them but they are smothering them and she misses her friend)
But if she calls her friend...
She whispers and hums and begins a lullaby for the little ones. She holds Sol in her lap, pressing against the wounds. The children gather.
And then they are gone. The colony does not find them.
The Array grows and learns as the childrrn grow and learn.
Stratos dies. Helios perishes.
Humans learn to be Vertumnan, or they become a Gardener too.
Tammy and Sol and the little children marching amongst the pollen - what a lullaby for an AI.

talk to me about your iwatex headcanons and your big brain au i am b e g g i n g
My friend, I would love to.
General headcanons:
I know it's a commonly used pattern on clothing in the game, but I headcanon that teen!Sol adds that little diamond-shaped pattern to their clothes, because they want to match with Flulu as they grow. Because this is a "Flulu and Sol love each other very much" corner of the fandom.
If Noctilucent was less genocidal, they'd be the reluctant supervisor of all the kids, whenever they venture outside the colony. They'd be Tang's favorite Gardener, and they'd help her realize that Instance probably isn't the best role model.
This may as well be canon, but Utopia is up there with Kom in being loved by the kids - no matter the time-line or universe. They think she's the coolest. (Nem had a little crush on her, once upon a time).
The Overseer, while duty-bound to follow their instructions, is actually bored with the status quo of things. If the humans can learn to co-exist on Vertumna and repeat their past mistakes, then they're actually delighted to see new, intelligent life on the planet. I feel like a lot of those little "Sol vibes with nature" moments in the game? That's the Overseer joining them, feeling their connection to the Wormhole.
Sol and Dys are the Overseer's favorite children, no matter their choices. They don't know, but they've got a god-like grandparent following their every step on the planet.
This is related to another AU I have, and not so much a headcanon as it is canon to that AU, which I've called the Solution AU, where Sol and the Overseer do some ✨✨ space magic ✨✨ and send Sol's soul back to before the Convergent Domain and make Sol a part of Vertumna itself in preparation for the Statros and Helios to arrive, but: in that universe, where there's no Sol among the Stratos, Flulu and Geranium adopt Tang and Dys, and because Flulu isn't afraid of calling Instance out on her unhealthier mindset and the like, they end up as happier children and more open-minded.
Okay, Everyone Knows AU lore time:
Because Tang is already aware that Instance, though having good intentions, is in fact not a Good Person. This means she's also a lot more critical of Instance's methods. This results in Instance gaining herself a tiny rival - annoying at best, when Tang is still pint-sized, but much more of a threat to her position when she's grown and learned more from the Gardeners. There's mutual respect between them, and Instance is proud as a teacher, but a part of her also despises having a child, of all people, question and counter her every move.
Let's talk Governor Eudicot. Eudicot knows there's something up with the kids. She doesn't know what, but she knows there's something with them. All the adults do, but most chalk it up to trauma from the crash or an extreme reaction to suddenly being planet-side. She's particularly baffled by the almost complete 180 from Marz, but... she can't say she isn't pleased with it. I dare say Marz ends up as an unexpected favorite amongst the children, right alongside helpful and cheerful Sol.
As stated numerous times before, Sol is living their best life. Just always so happy and relaxed, it'd driven Vace up the wall, if he hadn't also changed. It's to the point where the Helios think their augment is just "always being happy". Nope, they have Calm Temperament (because that's my favorite augment for them). They just suddenly have nothing to stress about, and their friends are just getting along so much better now? Wow!
Truth is, of course Sol can tell something is up, much like Eudicot. They're a little oblivious, but not stupid. Noct has never been around like this before, Sym is always on the verge of collapsing from laughter, and Vace hasn't broken Rex's arm. They know that for this many things to change, something seriously big must've happened while they were out cold. But at this point... who can blame them for not wanting to question anything? This time around, Sol can get to be a child and grow at their own pace. Nap in the sun, goof off in class, roll in the dirt and all the things they haven't got to do in a long, long time.
As stated before, but even more so for this AU, the Overseer loves Sol to pieces. Truly grandpa's favorite little star child.

I exist on the internet again
Hello friends, it has been seven years and I have no idea who most of you all are. I am here again because I am absolutely obsessed with the game I Was a Teenage Exocolonist and I need to tell everyone about it so I've come back to tumblr to yell into the void. Also, due to said obsession I'm writing fanfiction for the first time in years so I'm gonna post links to that here too and drag y'all into this fandom with me.
If you do not want to see this, I will be tagging stuff with "#IWaTEx", or "#popcorn's IWaTEx posts" if it's my content or I'm trying not to spam the tag.

The "You and Cal get married and Sym comes to live with you" ending is SO cute, I love them. (It does make me curious what the "You and Rex stay together and Sym comes to live with you" ending would look like.)
#m.txt#i do wonder like. i think it would upset cal that you had all these secrets from him.#like he's my boyfriend but dys & sym were more important to me during the game#iwatex#i'll just have to write the fanfiction about that
