This is far better than the first volume but all it makes me want to do is read more Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Shou. The pacing is improved and I did like a lot of the stuff with Youhei and Zero but I had trouble getting into it and I really hated the reveal at the end of this volume. In general this series feels pretty directionless at the moment and a lot the big plot developments don’t really happen until near the end of the volumes. It definitely has potential but it still needs a lot of work.

Given that this volume ends on something of a cliff-hanger and there is a manga adaptation, I assume that the series will continue but I likely won’t be reading it. I’d rather finish Zero before I give this series another try.

Next up, Sekai no Owari no Encore 2.
