as much as i like the twin hc, mugman is canonically the younger brother lol

silly ramble about the comics under the cut

while in the main game who's the youngest and who's the oldest isn't mentioned at all [because it doesn't really matter] both in the comics and art book from the game they confirm mugman is the youngest [there's the novels and the show, but i haven't finished those yet so i'm not sure if that subject ever comes up], and the comics specially paint such a beautiful picture of the brothers relationship

my favorite comic from the books was one where Mugman wildly misinterprets how growing plants work, and when corrected he gets embarrassed and runs away crying. Cuphead, instead of making fun of him, tells elder kettle and chalice how sad it makes him to see his little brother like that, so over night he helps Mugman's plant to grow full size in just a few hours

and that it's just so sweet. Cuphead is in the comics, although a bit selfish and irresponsible [he is a kid, so, understandable], VERY nice to his lil brother. And yes they fight sometimes but there's a very clear dynamic at play there, one very different to the one they have in the show

i like the show a lot, but they portray the brothers as- twins? i guess? [or at least they have a very small age difference, like 1 year or so, while the comics i'd say there's a 2, almost 3 year diffence] and i like how they're more even now, Cuphead doesn't see him as his baby brother so he's meaner, and Mugman has a lot more control now, sometimes bossing around Cuphead. And as a result, the show is funnier of course, it's fun to see how the one in control of the situation changes from episode to episode, but i still sort of miss this specific portrayal of siblings

GIVE ME MORE COMICS GRRRRRR i'm even considering buying the "step into reading" books to get more content

[casino cups] i really like the idea of Mugman always stealing one or two drags of Cuphead's cigarettes whenever he smokes, he hates the flavor and always coughs, but he likes the effects of nicotine so he'll still smoke

[he's a smoker but would rather die than admit it]

It becomes a habit, and they are both so used to it they don't notice it anymore.

One day Cuphead is smoking during his break, maybe Dice and Wheezy are around, then Mugman passes by, takes a drag [without asking, mind you], then leaves. Cuphead keeps talking as if nothing had happened [maybe he absentmindedly notes that Mugman took like half of the cigarette with him, greedy],

but Dice and Wheezy are losing their shits, What do you mean mister goody two shoes does smoke?! Even after all that stuff he said about it being harmful to your health?!!

they make fun of mugman for a week afterward

[casino cups] the twins try taking different shifts (cuphead works days, mugman works nights) so that way they dont have to argue about what shift to take every week

at first, it's great, if not a little lonely, but very soon the twins realize that they have developed pretty bad separation anxiety, cuphead has trouble sleeping knowing mugman is not home, and mugman is constantly worrying about cuphead, it gets so bad they can barely focus at work and they each get scolded by dice

the next week, they both very casually pick the same shift, acting as if it was a coincidence. None is ready to unpack this whole thing (they discover new consequences of their trauma every day, they're allowed to ignore this one)

[you guys ever think about how the twins probably had to fight the debtors while focusing on keeping a close distance between the two? if one of them died, there'd be very few seconds to revive them, so obviously in their minds 'being close to your brother = survival', i think about that all the time, there is NO way they wouldn't later get separation anxiety]

[casino cups] i think it would be so funny if mugman and cuphead started doing different bits whenever they work at the casino, like sometimes they do the scary twins act (finishing eachothers sentences/saying the same thing at the same time, being generally off putting, walking in perfect sync), other times acting like they hate eachother (one is taking orders from one table and just talking shit about the other, they're fake insults but the new clients dont know that). sometimes they deny they're brothers at all, just two guys that happen to look very similar

the regulars already know their act and look forward to seeing what version of the twins they're getting today

[cuphead show] OKAY SO LIKE at least they didn't leave us in a clif hanger,

if you think about it, season 3 has a perfect ending (i really don't think they planned anything more than this, all seasons were released the same year so it's likely this was the intended ending)

what happens after this? the events of the game of course, the universe is a bit different but i can see how it would work

i enjoyed this show so much!! it was an amazing experience, i'm so happy

i was looking for the art book again, and i just realized it was released september last year? same with the DLC art book! i was so surprised with that! that's so recent :0 no wonder i couldn't pirate it kwshdkjuhw But that shows the franchise is still alive even so many years later, i wonder if we'll get anything else, i hope so! but i'm more than happy with what we have

Ohhhhh art like this really makes me so happy so be alive, i know that sounds dramatic but every day i see so much art and so much love, it really makes it worth it to stay in this earth for as long as possible! i wanna see it all!

to gamble or not to gamble...

[Casino cups comic idea that i wont draw so I'll just talk about the concept] I really like the idea king dice still being sort of afraid of the brothers, he know they're weak now, but still, sometimes he forgets

Cuphead gets hurt by a client, nothing bad but still an ugly injury, and while he's pretty calm about it, Mugman is absolutely losing his shit (something something, casino, his brother getting hurt, repressed memories coming back), he wants to fight the client, but he also wants to get all of the pieces of Cuphead scattered on the floor, and he also wants to curl up and cry for a bit

Cuphead tells him to calm down, saying it was his fault [a lie], and King Dice, who was trying to keep the situation controlled says "This really wouldnt have happen if you werent such an idiot", and he doesnt really mean it, he says it mostly out of frustration too. But Mugman really takes this to heart and turns around, looks at KD in the eyes and says with as much anger as he can muster "you watch your fucking mouth" and just for a second KD freezes up, he's back at the moment that he was defeated by the brothers, and he feels afraid

then Mugman realizes what he said and apologizes like there's no tomorrow "S-s-so sorry i really didn't mean to say that, i was angry and i didnt think what i was saying, im so sorry, dont fire me", Cuphead is apologizing too, picking up the pieces he lost so they can both get away from Dice as fast as posible

KD just nods, still a bit lost in that feeling of fear
