i love the queers in one peice, mostly because they are an unapologetic oddity, they are not a sanitized image of what it means to follow a you that you can love and live and while yes at times it gets harder and harder to huff the copium needed to say that this is even semi good presentation, that all falls to the way side the moment some of the characters start to talk.

these are militants revolutionaries, fiercely loyal friends, men and women that traveled across the sea in search of a miracle and home that they then decide to defend.

i love bon clay, everything about him, every movement he makes, every laugh she makes, i am Beyond in love with em. they are themselves to an extreme that makes my heart break that i cant be much of the same only to fill the cracks with the fucking incessent hope that they are themselves because they have willed themselves to be a version of themself that is indelible.

and this is a running theme with other queer characters in one piece like ivankov and yamato.

ivenkov has made themselves so malliable, so fluid in shape and form that he lucked upon a devil fruit whose power grants her the ability to make their body whatever he damn well pleases

through almost shear force of will yamato claims a personality for himself, even takeing someone elses name because they have found an ideal form that they strive to both become and improve upon. even denying themselves the chance to see the world because they realized that it would not be true to themselves to leave as things were.

I once had a friend who liked to talk about anime with me, she was really into that black butler level shit and I was GOD TIER SHOUNEN TRASH

so one day, me and her were talking, discussing a chapter of some manga when I tried to explain to her how devil fruit powers, its an intresting starter because their pretty fucking whacky powers.

hell, my bothers first reacton to luffy was “so he cant expand his dick?”

so I use it alot. I got to ivenkov and explained that he/she uses their ability to switch back and fourth between male and female on a whim and can do the same for others

she got really fucking angry and started to demand I explain more so I just read off the attack names. she for some reason calmed down when she found out that the attacks were correctly labled with testosterone and estrogen. im not sure what happened but I stopped talking to her about one piece.
