lord dunsany has his problems (and racism) but its such a skill issue when i read reviews of his work that were clearly left by someone who saw him on like a reddit classic fantasy recommendation list or read about him on lovecraft's wikipedia page "ummm why is it so fragmentary and ephemeral?? wheres the plot and character???" guy who goes to the aquarium and gets mad when there arent any lions

#on like amount of books read he would probably count as my favourite author #but its just because all his books are available as free audiobooks #i dont like his long form fiction at all #i dont think i would ever call him my favourite author but like thats the impression storygraph has of me lol #he does have some of my favourite prose though #even though sometimes its so overwhelming as to fade into nothingness a lot of it i dont even process the words #but a picture endures in my mind #which is kind of the sign of excellent prose to me sorry #i hate the weird MFA obsession with words that sound nice and so on like. not that that has NO merit but ultimately the end goal is to pain #a picture.#ive literally seen multiple american mfa ppl say you should NEVER use a participle clause!!!!!!!! like holy shit is it that deep #literally because the 'ing' sounds bad #FIRSTLY as if thats even an objective thing. secondly .....
