Sorry if you don't know RvB OP but I need to talk about this before I explode
This is Felix and Locus for real
The war changed them for the worse. They were both battered, bruised, and broken. Yet, they stuck together to make the best duo despite the resent and annoyance they displayed. They butted heads but they needed each other to survive. After the war they tried to hang onto another partner. But it wasn't the same. Neither of them were able to connect with Mason like they did each other, even though Mason showed them far more patience and care
But, as was stated by Santa, Felix's greatest fear is Locus. Locus is the phone and Felix is the charger. Locus could have found another partner. He could have had a healthier partnership with someone who didn't continually break him down into a hollow shell of a man. There were times when Felix brought up topics or said certain things that he knew would get under Locus's skin. Felix knew he could keep Locus on track -- and passively follow along with Felix's plans and strategies -- just by saying things that would actively trigger Locus
Honestly I think this is why Locus was so fascinated by Wash. Wash could have been Locus's new charger. Problem is, Wash wasn't a charger. He grew after PFL. Now he wasn't someone else's accessory anymore, not even Carolina's. He had taken the time to grow into his own person -- into his own phone. I think this is what caught Locus's attention the most. He had gone through Wash's old records from PFL, and back then he was the runt of the litter, so to speak. Wash wasn't at the top of the tier list. He wasn't the best freelancer. He was good enough to *be* a freelancer, sure, but he was continually underestimated by the rest of his crew. I'm sure this showed in his old reports too. Yet, here he was in a one on one standoff with Locus, and he didn't fumble. Not then, not in the war of Chorus v. Space pirates, and especially not in the 2 v. 2 next to the Tower of Extinction. Wash was caught off guard a few times, but he never slipped up. During their final showdown Locus and Felix needed each other in order to have a chance against the two freelancers, but Wash and Carolina both pulled their own weight in order to fend off the mercs
Locus could have tried to replaced Felix at any time. But, after the war, Felix relished in the fact that he was the bent charger to Locus's broken and corroded charging port. There was no way that Locus could have actually found another charger because none of them would have worked. No, Locus was stuck with Felix. It wasn't until after Felix -- the only charger that could work for Locus -- died that Locus realized that he needed to fix his charging port
Once he realized that he wasn't the accessory to Felix, but rather the other way around, he realized that he wasn't stuck with the damage that the war caused and Felix shamelessly perpetuated. Post Chorus he was determined to fix the damage he had done, even if there wasn't really a way to make amends other than leaving Chorus behind. Locus fixed his port. Locus changed so he wouldn't need a charger like Felix any longer
I'm proud of the growth that Locus was able to achieve. He fixed himself for the better, and that's all I genuinely wanted for him after seeing the way he was hurting
i love finding poetry in the mundane, and yesterday i stumbled upon something that just hits that spot
So, my partner has an old phone- It served them for many years now, but it has one issue: Charging it is hard. Their current charger is hanging on by a thread (literally), and can barely do its job. The phone and the charger came together: They've never used another charger for said phone.
Now, they've tried to replace the charging cord several times. But it doesn't matter how much they've searched what damned specific charger the phone uses, none of them work. They finally decided to bring it to a phone shop and ask what should they use.
The guy at the shop looked at the phone for a bit, and explained: "The port itself is broken. The charger you have works with this phone because they've mutually broken each other into the same shape, in a way that no other charger is shaped. The port itself has corroded in a way that only accepts the charger that shaped it like that in the first place."
And while this is of course a frustrating situation for my partner, I feel like there's a metaphor here. I could write a goddamn story about this. These two half-broken old things have been together for so long they've destroyed each other in a way that keeps them from working with anything else. They've hurt each other in a way that barely keeps them functioning together, and have been rendered useless with literally anything else.
This too is toxic yuri to me-
