Hey so back in december idkkk i was just messin around, looking at some good zooploop stuff and i managed to find ur account on twitter (i dont have a twitter account tho and i didnt wanna get on there and make an actual account just yet or download the app) and u would have posts here and there about ur college work, i then realized u have a tumblr after i saw a reblog of ur art and i was wondering would u recommend the university of maryland? It seems like a nice school, i dont actually live in maryland tho, i just am applying out of curiosity and the fact it has two programs im highly interested in (art stuffs and library stuffs just in case things go to crap haha!)
I just ahh, u know applying to colleges is so stressful. im not having a great time with this. Ive applied and already been accepted in my hometown to a local college, but i do wanna see if i have chances else where. Im just rlly interested in animation and arts and stuffs and ur the only person that i vaguely know of that goes there (i think ahhh)
Im sorry if this is a lot to ask and if i crossed any boundaries or anything, or if this is too personal, you dont have to respond! Pls lemme know if i did anything wrong i would not want to have been a bother at all!!
heyo! no worries I'm not weirded out or anything. Unfortunately I'd have to say that I wouldn't really recommend going to UMD College Park if you're interested in visual art...LOL. That's not to say there aren't valuable programs and good professors but the department is so underfunded by the school that there are a lot of problems.
1. busted equipment. as in drafting tables that no longer lock in place so they will tilt and sink while you draw no matter what you do
2. zero studio security. instead of locking the doors between studio hours or installing a camera or something, they leave the painting studios unlocked 24/7 and as a result one of my (30X40!!!!!) paintings was stolen along with the paintings of many other students, and they were never recovered. when confronted about it the department did nothing (as far as i know). no new security measures, no compensation for the stolen works, not even a “sorry lol”
3. there are so few individual courses offered for the studio art concentration that in order to fulfill the credit requirements to complete a studio art major you are allowed to (and actually have to) take the same course up to 12 fucking credits. so I took advanced painting 4 times.
4. the campus itself is kind of a nightmare. this is a personal pet peeve but there is ALWAYS construction, on every part of the campus, blocking essential paths and roads and digging up the ground and making navigation a nightmare, not to mention the actual landscape of the campus is very hilly, so if you're disabled or injured or just tire easily that might be a problem
i dont mean to like be a negative nelly or kill your excitement but im being completely honest in saying there are probably far better schools for art than this one NFJKDSFLKJDNSDKJFN. UMD literally does not even have a fine arts degree. I can’t get a BFA, i’m getting a plain old BA instead
bonus: this collage i made of the rate my professor reviews for the guy who teaches one of the compulsory courses for my major. it was an utter nightmare
#long post#as far as im aware we don't even have animation courses at all#or if we do it's another concentration but ive never seen any listed#the classes i could take as a transfer are basically limited to painting drawing printmaking and metalwork#with a few other things sprinkled in#lots of art history classes if you wanna do that tho
