Thinking about post canon when Naviidi/(tav) is determined to find a cure for vampirism so he manages to get in contact with his necro-wizard dad in Menzoberranzan, and his dad gets in touch with some of his peers, and arranges for their relatively safe passage into the city, but they have to reach the city first, so Naviidi takes Astarion (obviously), and asks Gale and Morgan/(durge) to accompany them in case they get into any trouble on the journey there. When they get there Naviidi's dad is elated to see him again (despite being centuries old, going a year and a half without seeing his son felt like an eternity), and he dotes all over his son and future-son-in-law. He's so excited to hear all about his son's and his friends' adventures and stories of being on the surface, and listens raptly to everything Naviidi tells him ("you've spoken with Mystra, Shar, Vlaakith and Bhaal?!; communed with mindflayers?!; seen the crown of Karsus in person?!; defeated a devil in his own home?!" etc etc). And Morgan sees all of this and just feels...
The gaping chasm in his chest where his own father's love should be aches, and he knows that it's better he feels this pain then what pain would be brought upon the whole world with the alternative, but it still hurts. He sees how much he loves Naviidi, despite his son's rejection of tradition and the role he was raised to play, and how easily he extends his love to Astarion, Naviidi's male darthirr partner. He sees how his love of the Weave manifested in his eldest child and only son, Naviidi being born a sorcerer, and how his father's magic blessings bond them and bring them closer. Seeing this display of father-son love makes Morgan angry; why wasn't he good enough for his father the way he was? It seems all Naviidi has to do to make his father proud is be happy, why couldn't his own father be the same? Why did receiving his father's blessings have to come at the cost of losing himself?
