What is a Warframe?

Besides the point that by now not even DE knows what Warframe is about /j This isn't about the game, but rather about the nominal space ninjas, these frames of war.

Headcanons and spoilers after the break.

The ever so great and perfect Ballas is one of the main people responsable for the creation of the warframes. We know the process is unpleasent and it uses the Helminth strain of the infestation as part of the transformation. This transmutation of flesh and bone into steel and abomination... But what do we know besides these points? Well... 1999 answered some of these questions with the Drifter's conversations with the Hex:

-Warframes in the present are reproductions done with the foundry. We could call them artificial clones, using information recorded in the void relics. Because of this they are different to the original ones. -Original warframes were people and they still had very much a will. The tenno were needed exactly because of this will. Current warframes are like echos, holding some fragments but not enough to have a will of their own... there are exceptions. During the Second Dream, our warframe manages to manifest enough will to save our ass, but I would say this is an extremly rare case. Umbra, on the other hand, had SO MUCH TRAUMA on repeat that, even reproduced, manifests a will of his own.

-Stalker, Jade, MAYBE EVEN Chroma in The New Stranger! Are examples of original warframes that, like Umbra, kept on a semblance of sanity for one reason or another (for Stalker was revenge, for Jade their child, for Chroma is more than likely being controlled by the Infestation somehow).

But what is the relationship between Primes and normal warframes? And what about the models themselves? Are we to asume that there is only, in canon, ONE Mag, ONE Excalibur, ONE Loki, etc? Well, these are my headcanons:

-The regular warframes precede the primes in truth, they are the basic models from which they were developed. As an example we have Titania, or how the Hex are called "protoframes" and their designes look like incomplete models. Even more, the Silver Grove quest says specifically how Silvana is the one that MADE Titania, not Ballas. He just tasked her with the job.

-So what does this tell us? That once the basic models were made, Ballas took that work and made the prime versions from them. Prime Warframes are improved, elite versions of the basic models, and maybe that is why we only find their info inside void relics, as to be kept safe at all cost for their value.

-But, again... what about more than one single model? Well... I belive that there was a first for every model, like Titania, or Ivara... but that is like the designe imprinted into the Helminth strain. Umbra after all is a modified Excalibur, so he is a precedent of "more than one unit of a model". And it has always been my headcanon that how we fashionframe, in universe (besides SOME actual cosmetic changes), is actually the unit of the model that we have. As an example, each Excalibur helmet is an example of individuals that were infected with the Excalibur-model strain but transformed in different ways. You could say the same about the deluxe skins as cases of individuals turning into the model but with drastically different looks. Ash's leverian has gear that is from his Shroud skin after all. And even the animation is a reflection of the person's personality, even when we use the ones from OTHER warframes!

So anyway, in summary, warframes come in base models with which people were infected to make them (like Eleanor being infected with the Nyx-model), and their apperance can vary in small or big ways, it depended on the individual. Primes, on the other hand, were improved and elite versions that Ballas made stealing using the work of others.

I'm drunk so I'm gonna say that I'm so disappointed with Wisp Prime. They really nerfed the FUCK out of her booty and the hip dangly bits are too stiff it doesn't work with her agile stance -_-

Forgot to post this when Ivara Deluxe came out last year.  I briefly worked with Mike Skyers to come up with some potential armor forms and helmet designs. I didn’t get the chance to work on many warframe deluxe skins - but they were always a blast to contribute to.

2. Least favourite frame

Well... *Looks at my least played frames list* Ivara, Atlas, Hydroid, Inaros... Probably someone else I didn't like so much I've deleted them from my memory. Fun fact Inaros was the only time where I had to actually just stop playing a Frame that random.org picked for me until I had no choices left, and Ivara Prime I levelled to max in one single Dark Sector Survival because I just wanted to be done with it.

4. Favourite deluxe skin

Bold of you to assume I have even looked at any deluxe skins that often. The only ones I actually own are Mephisto Revenant and Gersemi Valkyr and I have like... Never really looked at any others. I wish for Equinox and Nidus we could view how the skin would look in different forms before buying it honestly.

8. A frame you want a prime of

Ohh hmm. Well, it's inevitable that all Frames will get a Prime eventually... I do want a Revenant BLING. And a Xaku BLING.

The Stropha might give these two a run for their money though, once I start levelling it. And the Ceti Lacera is hella good, with those animations making me love it more. Same for the Tenet Grigori.

40. Least favourite melee

*Looks at profile* *Scrolls to the bottom of the list* The list was actually remarkably unhelpful. But I do remember distinctly disliking the Pennant, the Ankyros, the Fragor and pretty much every Sword & Shield combo I have used sorry Baruuk but your weapon sucks

The HMS IMPOSTENNO, a fusion of two ways to describe me: Impostor, and Tenno.

61. Favourite faction in game

Ffff. Hmmm, this is a very good question. I actually don't think I have a favourite faction, I like and dislike them all for different reasons.

75. Ever experienced something strange in game

*Thinks back at the time Loki got randomly exploded just for bullet jumping and fell out of the map in a Railjack mission* *Thinks at all of the incidences of Liches never despawning* *Remembers the time I ran through a completely unloaded Cambion Drift* *Flashbacks to all the whacky shenanigans caused by someone's Internet/game crashing and causing me a million host migrations*

Ahhh so much. So so much. I'm so invested in this game, the characters and the universe in general that anything will please me.

Although The New War is going to absolutely KILL my emotions first.

I think the issue with the yareli deluxe is that Yareli's theme wasn't really "water girl." it was "Water girly girl," or rather "Sailor Scout inspired Warframes." (Art by Matias Tapia.) Anyways, she got. more associated with her skirt, her girliness, etc, than with aquatic? I do think the dominatrix thing is a vibe they could have gone for, but the head is very Ivara. I think if they did some of the leg fringe from the second concept it would have gone over much better.

I like how the Deluxe is a more "mature" version of her: though maybe that is my own bias thinking taking away the frilly skirt makes her more mature, if she had unique animations maybe that would make sense, something like Valkyr Carnivex.

For the record I love the cutesy, frilly mahou shoujo vibe of Yareli, but I guess I am lucky because I like both cute, frilly, princess girls and more mature boss-babes. Yareli deluxe gives me the vibe of a woman in a pantsuit who is ready to KILL, a more gritty gunslinger while still keeping feminine allure, sort of femme-fatale. (this is the bisexual brain talking)

Yeah the Ivara head... maybe I need to concede on that, it is basically Ivara but like if her jellyfish theme had been her regular-skin theme.

The fringes/frills of the second design were really neat! But apparently would be a pain in the arse to render in 3d + Warframe's usual clipping issues, and making it work with attachments/armor and I wouldn't want a Liger situation where the skin is so "complete" it doesn't feel very customizable. u_u
