HERE COMES THE BRIDE

Society weddings are keenly anticipated in Riverdale County. It's a chance for people to dress up and enjoy a spectacle, as well as cementing some of our core values through century-old rituals.

The bride is traditionally "given away" by the father of the bride in a way that reinforces patriarchal principles and helps to negate the modern fantasy of 'women's choice'.

These days, many women marry more than once, and in these cases, the father's role is often adopted by the eldest son.

Tradition states that the "ius prima noctis" (the right of the first night) falls to the groom's father or, in his absence, the groomsmen themselves. That is to say, the bride is deflowered not by her husband, but by another man, or men.

This tradition has died out in conventional marriages, but is echoed by the existence of the bachelorette party, where the bride is encouraged to have sex with other men away from the prying eyes of her fiancé.

We have, in Riverdale, maintained the purity of the original concept.

A „ius primae noctis” szó szerint „az első éjszaka joga”, nyelvtanilag (nominativus (ius) + genitivus (primae noctis) tökéletesen korrekt. Hogy a „prima nocta” honnan gyütt a neten, ehhez túl öreg vagyok, nem fogok utánakotorászni, biztos volt ilyenség. A latin mellett öt élő nyelvet beszélek folyékonyan, plusz három élő nyelven olvasok, ógörögül is boldogulok… szóval ennyi a nyelvnyamnyam for today. Good bye and thanks for the fish.
