Anthony hadn’t had the best first few days in Ashton to say the least. He’d gotten lost a few times, figured out how bad things really were here, and also just struggled to adjust to working in a new state where things were differently. Due to this he decided to get a few drinks after work. After asking around he decided on a place to go. What he didn’t expect to see was Verity Sinclair of all people working at the bar when he walked in. “Verity?” Anthony asked, shocked to see her.

Sarah felt quite bad that she had left Ashton so suddenly, but honestly she didn’t think she had it in her to tell anyone about why she was leaving. To Sarah, emotions were like a confusing road map and she wasn’t always certain which way to go, or how to explain the directions. So instead she had left the town without uttering a word, but now she was back she knew that she had to call in on her friend. That word still felt foreign on her tongue.
She knew she should have called in advance, but in proper Sarah fashion she showed up unannounced at Verity’s front door, knocking with one hand and a bag full of alcohol in the other. She considered it a peace offering. “Hey!” She exclaimed when the door was opened, hoping the girl would be happy to see her.

Andy was grabbing a coffee at a shop close by to Sarah’s apartment before he planned on heading back to his own place to work on some songs he’d been writing. He’d started getting back into the routine with Sarah again and it felt good, he was presentably happier than he had been the past few months without her and his muse was back when he was writing. He was turning to leave when he saw a girl that he’d met at the halloween festival, “Hey! Uhh-...Verity, right?” he asked, wanting to make sure he had her name right.

Verity shook her head ever so slightly at his following words. It was not as if she had intentionally wanted to make him upset. She was only trying to look after him. Still, the fact that he apparently seemed to be getting upset with her, actually made her slightly annoyed. She bit down her lip as she looked away from him again, attempting to take a few deep breaths before she said something she knew she’d regret. “All I want is too look out for you, and I think as your best friend, I should be allowed to at least do that. But fine, Brendon. It is non of my business. If you want to do this, then you go ahead and do this. I will keep my opinions on the matter to myself from now on. But did you not stop to think for one second that maybe I am making you upset, because you know, deep, deep down inside that I do have a point?” She asked him, her tone of voice was yet again slightly harsh, but at least wanted to make sure that he had considered that possibility. She wiped away yet another tear that fell down her cheek. Hearing him compare her to his own mother was starting to get insulting to her. “Whatever Brendon. I know I am nothing like her, and that is all I can even say to you right now. Of course I want the best for you, that is what friends do!” She responded, clearly still offended to the comparison, knowing when he’d come out to her she’d done nothing but been accepting of him. “Maybe the reason I am being like this, is because partially I feel like I am loosing you. I feel like you are always busy or with him. It is like you are not even there anymore, and I feel like I am loosing you and I just don’t want that to happen. I don’t want you to leave me. Everybody leaves.” She said, her voice clearly starting to choke up. She was finally willing to admit that maybe she was just more jealous of Carter than anything. She took a slight step backwards, biting down her lower lip again in an attempt to stop herself from crying.
Brendon looked at her before scoffing, “You can’t be serious right now” he said, pausing as he looked back at her. “You can look after me, I never said you couldn’t- but blatantly saying bad things about Carter isn’t looking out for me. Saying ‘hey Brendon I know you really like him and that’s great, but I’m not sure if this is the best path for you. I support you no matter what’ is different than saying ‘He sounds immature and he’s going to hurt you. By the way, he’s a whore!’” he said before his face changed when she said that he knew she had a point. He looked angry, and that never happened. “Wow, that has to be a joke” he said before shaking his head, “No- I don’t think that you have a point. If I thought you had a point I wouldn’t be fighting you on it, I think that’s pretty clear.” He looked back over at her with gritted teeth. “I am very close from walking away from you right now” he said, not wanting to say something he would later regret now that he was mad at her. He looked back at her now that she actually admitted what she was upset about it. “I’m not leaving you Verity, you aren’t losing me. I’ve spent a lot of time with him, I know. But you’re my best friend, I’m not going anywhere- him and I have talked about you, so many times, because I constantly bring you up in conversation. I don’t want to run off into the distance with Carter, you’re both so important to me, and I want all of us to get along and be able to hang out together. But the way you talk about him makes it clear to me that I can’t have you both in the same room, so you’re forcing me to divide my time and that means you’ll see me less. You’re making it hard for me to want to see you if all you do when I do see you is act passive aggressive and annoyed because I didn’t see you sooner- you want to see me but you’re not very nice when I do, so I don’t know what you expect. I apologized for not being around as much and I told you I was going to try and be more present. I don’t know what else you want me to say about it.”

"You are both the most stubborn and most sarcastic person I've ever met. Whenever I try to do something kind for you I am usually met with sarcastic comments. It seems you're only really pleased with me when I am fucking you, and even then you want to be in control." Colton replied with a small shrug. "I've never done anything to prove otherwise."

Verity crossed her arms in front of her chest, which was a bad idea seeing it only made the zipper slip open even further. “Are you sure?” She responded a bit half jokingly. She had not seen a lot of Brendon recently, and she did blame that on Carter. “Hm I don’t know.. How is your little..” She lowered her tone of voice “- crush going?” she asked him out of curiosity, wanting to make sure he was okay with just being his friend. “Ah right, I see.” She nodded when he mentioned Carter’s sister. She didn’t know her personally, only seen her around at parties and such. “No, you look.. Great. Honestly! It is just not like you to be so.. You know.” She tried to explain as that was what had surprised her mostly. she knew he was fit seeing they lived together. “Thank you!” She smiled after he’d zipped her back up, hoping it would stick this time.
Brendon nodded before responding a little too quickly to her question, “Yes I am definitely sure. He’s a good influence on me you see because he actually um...took care of me the other night when I uh-.. got a little bit drunk with a different friend” he said, in a quieter tone than he normally did because he was sure she was going to say something about Brendon, the boy who never touched alcohol, suddenly getting drunk. “So there’s no need to berate Carter, he really is a nice guy and he was very helpful and kind” he nodded, looking down a little when she asked about his crush. “Ya know I think it’s fine, I’d rather have him as my friend then not have him in my life at all so um...I’m getting used to it and over time that feeling will just go away and it will be fine” he said, trying to convince himself of that point just as much as he tried to convince her. “Thank you” he smiled a little when she said he looked great, “No I know I’m not normally so um.. yeah, but Carter thinks we need to work on making me more confident, so I’m just trying something- I don’t know, it’s kind of stupid” he shook his head, trying to brush it off, and feeling dumb for bringing Carter up again because he was sure she didn’t want to hear about him even though he was all Brendon wanted to talk about. “If it starts falling again you can come find me, I’ll always be around somewhere”
