Behind this smile is a woman who has faced many hardships. A woman who has stood up against many goliaths in her life, and conquered them all with prayer, faith, resilience, determination, and most of all humor. I always look for the good even as I acknowledge the bad. Since I've lived in Augusta: I have been homeless. I have been abused. I have been told that I would never walk again. I have been on public assistance. I have lost all that I had to my name. I have had to rebuild my business and my life from the ground up. Because of those experiences, I understand first hand what it feels like to think you aren't being heard or that your voice doesn't matter. I know how frustrating it can be to feel like you're getting the run around. I know what it feels like for people to assume that you are not good enough, or you don't deserve or belong; and I have surprised each and every person who has underestimated me. I have had my hand in the dirt, digging in to be better and help others. I love Augusta. In spite of all that I have been through in this city, it is still one of the best decisions that I have made moving here. It's time to stop talking about our potential and to start living up to it. We are more than just The Masters, James Brown, or Cyber. We are beautiful, creative and just as economically strong as anyone else. We are also amazing people who want leadership that is for the people and will move the city forward and not be afraid to stand up and speak out. Don't let my smile and my funny disposition fool you. I've stayed behind the scenes far too long. Now it's time to show up and step up.
