shrunk/tiny!steve x human!y/n
4-5inch tiny!steve (how it all happened one shot)
lil bit of angst
fearplay
swearing
lil bit of gore description (don’t worry, it’s a tiny demogorgon it can’t hurt you </3)
written in 2nd person
grammar isn’t amazing </3
info:
kinda based on a plot? i’m just writing when i feel like it and then hit post.
origins on the au on how it all happened.
y/n and steve just wanted to go to skull rock :,)
word count: 2,316
It was nightfall as you two walked along lovers lake. Stepping over the rocks by the lakeside and using moonlight to guide you. The night was cool as you both wore your jackets. His arm around your shoulder eventually as he listened to you talk about work. The stress and rewards of it.
You managed to almost trip over a rock which he managed to catch you in time. Hands holding you around your waist from the fall. The laughter that arose made both your hearts flutter. Damn it, you were at lovers lake for a reason, right? To finally have a concrete answer for every time you fumbled when people asked what you two were.
“Steve,” You laughed.
You’d stopped by a tree, closer to the thick of the woods. You’d started to follow him since he said he “knew a spot” for something you both knew you were wanting.
Steve hummed in return looking down at you.
“Can we just— take a second?” You asked through a breath.
Your heart was beating incredibly quickly from the nerves and excitement but also from the distance. Yes, you had put in a jog or two into your schedule but this felt like a hike. After being hunted by monsters for years you relied on your adrenaline to get you out of bad situations. Not athletics, that’s why Steve was there.
“You have stupidly long legs, and—,” You paused and lunged with your legs. “Have this stupid stride,” You emphasized and tapped your legs.
“I thought you liked walking behind me” Steve quipped with a smirk. You rolled your eyes and stood up again.
“To use you as a shield, yeah,” You said with a grin.
He gave you an expression of hurt all over his face. Before another word could escape either of your mouths to deepen metaphorical wounds, a fizzing sound hit your ears.
You snapped your eyes towards the thick of the forest to be met with darkness. You went cold as Steve took a step ahead of you. Your hand glided up his arm and you gave it a squeeze. You really didn’t need him running off to fight an evil or coyote.
You’d only seen the side of his face as he looked back at you. Giving you a nervous smile because he really didn’t want tonight to be ruined.
“I’m just going to check it out,” Steve said and took a step forward. “To make sure a serial killer doesn’t watch us—,” He never got to finish as you pulled him back.
He almost fell backwards because of your steel grip but you didn’t care.
“What’s wrong with you?” You hissed. Annoyed, this idiot didn’t understand you did NOT want him to leave you alone. Especially leaving him alone.
“It’ll be a minute, just— give me your switchblade if it makes you feel better,” He compromised. He watched you curiously as you put your hand to your back pocket.
You grumbled about him trying to die before having your guys’ first date. Huffing when you handed it to him, him taking it.
“I’m coming with you,” You insisted before hooking your arms together.
“What? No,” Steve said as he stopped your walk.
“What? Yes,” You said back and took another step forward.
He said your name and you only ignored him. He sighed and the two of you were walking into the deeper part of the woods. A chill ran down your spine with every step. Steve’s left hand held the pocket knife with the blade out.
“Y’know I’m not left-handed,” He said.
“Then give it to me,” You said as you looked around you. Trying to make out the dark shapes in the forest as you heard a snap here and there.
Steve shut up. Defeated by your stubbornness but it made him feel a little good. You’d dragged the both of you to possibly die. He felt stupid for thinking it. Though once he looked down at you he couldn’t help but smile.
You hadn’t noticed as you saw a large shape covered in the shadows. No scratch that, a shed in the middle of the woods. It had to have been maybe thirty feet away from you. Steve stopped his walk and looked at you. Meeting your eyes as you shook your head.
“It’ll be a minute, okay? Just making sure there’s no creeps in the forest,” Steve assured you as you let out a sigh.
You slowly released your grip on his arm wishing
you hadn't already. He gave you a side glance before smiling again. Soon enough you watched him walk past a tree and another. The darkness enveloping him ever so slowly. Hugging yourself as you watched him walk off.
It was a minute and there was silence.
You shivered from the tree you were leaning on.
You’d give him another minute.
It was two minutes and you frowned.
Eyes darting left and right hoping you weren’t about to get jumped.
One more minute.
It was two minutes and twenty—
Oh hell no, you were going in.
If this was a stupid prank he was dead.
Past the snaps from branches and paranoia you made it to the shed. The tool shed’s door was cracked open which revealed a yellow hue of light.
Terrified of saying a word you pushed the door open. The wood creaking open under your touch you blinked at what you were seeing. It wasn’t as cramped as you imagined but empty. Light came from a lightbulb dangling from the ceiling.
One of the lowest shelves which only took the width of your arm to get there, held a metal box. On top of it a pod with green and yellow lights was popping out of the box.
A toolbox sat on another shelf and it was quiet, too quiet. That was until you heard your name screamed from a distance.
“Steve?” You said and looked behind you. The night hid anything in the forest. Though you never saw Steve leave and—
There it was again, your name. It sounded so distant and desperate. Your heart raced in your chest looking back inside.
Taking a step inside the floorboards creaked under your feet. You looked around to make sure there wasn’t a window you missed. There weren’t any openings, and you felt your heart sink to your stomach.
Bile leading up to your throat with your heart banging against your chest. Is that what the Upside Down stuff was like? You remembered Mrs.Byers talking about Will and how he—
There it was again, your name along with something else. A screeching noise.
The clicking and screeching of the monster you killed. The small space felt suffocating when the face of the demogorgon hit you.
This could NOT be happening.
You walked over to the toolbox and quickly grabbed a wrench. The cool metal under your hand as you heard the screeching much closer to you. Your brows furrowed as you slowly looked down.
“What the hell?” You said wide eyed.
Right on the wooden boards there ran a few inch tall demogoron right past you. The long limbed and open flapped face that haunts your nightmares was tiny. Too many questions rushed to your head as you heard a shout.
A very human shout.
You followed where the monster was running off to and your jaw dropped. Steve sprinting for his life at a couple inches tall from the demogorgon.
Quickly without thinking your foot was over the demogorgon. The bottom of your shoes stomping down on the monster. No room for escape, the demogorgon was crushed under your shoe. The wet sound of flesh crushed under your foot made you grimace.
“Gross,” You muttered.
Brushing your shoe up against the ground on a different spot. Trying to get rid of the goo, only to realize what the hell you just saw.
You snapped your head back to where you’d seen Steve. He wasn’t even looking, up, at you when you said his name. His brown eyes wide at the mess you made under your shoe. You placed the wrench on a shelf.
“Steve,” You said and walked over to him.
The steps meant nothing to you but the thuds were loud and clear to him. He started to walk backwards but managed to trip. He fell back and looked up at you. You decided to sit in front of him with your hands coming from both sides of him.
“Steve, you okay?” You asked which made him flinch.
His eyes all over your hands closing in on him. He felt so trapped and suffocated in the dim lit room. Your shadow covered up most of the light and he felt so numb.
Noticing he had no reaction to anything you stopped. Your heart sunk, it seemed he was trying to handle this. You pulled your hands back and looked back up at the shelf.
Confusion written all over your face as you got up. Staring at the half opened box, there was cracked glass on top of the metal. You reached your hand to open up the lid even more.
“Stop! Don’t touch that!” Steve yelled and you paused.
Eyes flicking back to him you saw he was standing again. He looked terrified to say the least but seemed to snap out of his thoughts.
“Okay,” You said and put your hand down.
“Are you okay?” You asked crouching down to him again.
This time looking for any wounds on him. He was studying you but from the perspective of being a couple inches tall. Every motion you made startled him. Your body shielding him from any other view.
“I don’t know,” He answered truthfully with a hand running through his hair.
He stared at the ground as he started to pace.
“I mean, we’ve dealt with crazy, and I mean crazy stuff. But- but this,” His spiraling freaked you out.
“This is just crazy, right?” He asked, looking up at you again. Those stupidly pretty eyes staring right in to yours.
“It’s crazy,” You confirmed. “But it doesn’t make it any less real,” You added and he let out a laugh.
“Thank you, for confirming the crazy,” He scoffed with his hands on hips.
You rolled your eyes and sighed. Pinching the bridge of your nose as if to help the comebacks stay in your head. Steve was going through some hysteria and you couldn’t use sarcasm to come back at it.
Steve’s ramblings turned louder with every step he took. His heart beating in his ears as you watched painfully.
You said his name multiple times but you’d lost him. Again. Swearing at yourself you inched closer to him.
“… and I’m going to be tiny forever till I-,” He shouted but cut himself off.
The heat from the palm of your hands enveloped him. It was familiar in ways but never had he fit in the palm of your hands. Your hands were cupped around him acting as a chair of sorts. He didn’t know what to say as he faced you.
His mind was going to explode.
“Steve,” You said quietly.
Fingers propping his back up as he was nestled there. He was tense under your gaze as every part of his body froze.
“Can you just breathe for a second?” You asked, fighting off the look of pity in your eyes.
“Breath for a second?” He questioned with his voice raised but he flinched.
His face dropped as he muttered something to himself. He took a deep breath out his mouth and placed his hand on one of your fingers. His face softened as continued his breathing.
You on the other hand we’re trying not to lose it either. Heart beating loud and clear. Your neck aching from you craning down to look at Steve already. The gross gunk on your shoe served as a reminder that a demogorgon was even in the same dimension as you.
You needed to leave before you lost the air in your lungs. Both of you needed to clear your minds. Slowly you got up. Steve blinked his eyes rapidly down at the ground shrinking beneath him.
“WOAH WOAH,” He shouted as he backed into the palm of your hands.
“Sorry I just…” You started and looked around in the small shed. A chill making up to your spine afraid you would see something you didn’t want to.
Blinking away watery eyes you looked back at the metal box. It was untouched like Steve requested and you assumed it’s what made him this way. Though they couldn’t leave it, right?
Oh god. What would happen to Steve now? You managed to squish the last thing closest to his height with your shoe. Would he ever go back to normal? What if something horrible happened to him?
The questions darting off from one to the next. Chest feeling tight as you held the fragile life in your hands. You held him closer to your face with him staring back at you.
The details of your face magnified in his gaze and damn you were pretty. Hands holding on to your fingertips to prevent him from falling. Your breath hitting his face as he blinked at you. His heart rammed in his chest.
“Let's just go home, okay?” You asked softly.
Home.
“Yeah,” He nodded slowly.
Once the love gazes were over you held him close to your chest. Terrified of possibly dropping him. He must have felt the same because despite being shielded from the forest pressed up against your chest. He gripped onto your jacket for dear life. Perhaps for himself to feel safety or have a grip on reality. Your heartbeat being one of the few things he noticed in his state.
You didn’t dare to speak or walk too fast.
What the fuck just happened?

tiny!reader x human!steve x human!eddie
3inch tiny!reader
this is a draft that i randomly kind of finished, so i’ll just post. if you seriously have any requests let me know, i’d love to write away :)
word count: 1,037
i do wanna write something better btw with these three :,)
info:
You’re a borrower and overtime have been revealed to the party. You meet Eddie for the first time after Dustin practically forces you and leaves the trailer without explanation.
It’s just really awkward now.
Inside of the trailer which Dustin has deserted you in is a giant (human) and you. You’re standing on the coffee table in complete awkward silence.
“So… have you always been like this?” Eddie asked.
You looked up at the curly haired man with curious eyes. He rested his elbows on his knees. He fiddled with the rings on his hands when you tried holding eye contact he looked away. His dough eyes made it to the objects around. Though he didn’t look at you.
“Yep,” You responded.
He nodded his head. You were surprised at how non eager he was to look at you, ask rapid fire questions like Dustin, or even touch you. You didn’t let your guard down though. Your eyes were on him and even if your few friends trusted him it didn’t hurt to be cautious.
The crack of bone made you flinch and take a step back. Eddie shifted his knuckles and continued to crack them. Until he noticed your small figure moving back out of the corner of his eye.
“Sorry,” He apologized immediately and dropped his hands to his sides.
Your back was straight as a ruler and the fight or flight was kicking in. You’d drifted to the edge of the table farthest away from Eddie. His size would make it easy to nab you but reaching over would spare you a couple seconds. To escape, if needed but you remembered Dustin’s promise.
He promised you Eddie wouldn’t hurt you that he was actually a really nice guy. That apparently “high school” gave him a bad reputation, which still confused you because you didn’t know what that meant. Dustin also promised he would be back soon but he seemed to be running late, and that put you on edge.
You did not want to be stuck with a stranger longer than you had to.
“I’m not going to hurt you and I’m sorry for being… awkward,” Eddie’s booming voice hit your ears. “I’m just not usually used to meeting a couple inch tall people I guess, but you’re cool though…” His words drifted when you stared at him blankly.
You were one step away from stepping off the ledge and using your lovely hook to hop off the table. Though he seemed genuine, dangerous, but genuine. Eddie pressed his back against the couch and looked away from you shyly.
“It’s three inches tall actually,” You said with a grin.
Eddie's dark eyes flicked to you with surprise.
“Dustin insisted on measuring me,” You shrugged. “I actually didn’t know giants had so many forms of measurements,” You said.
You scratched the back of your neck and laughed at yourself. The memories of Dustin explaining different “metric” systems to you exploded your brain. It was another reminder this world wasn’t made for you, it was just too damn big.
“How much do you know about… giant stuff?” He asked.
He seemed amused now and less scared of you running off.
“I mean, I’ve recently learned how your electronics work,” You said with air quotes around “electronics”.
The word didn’t roll off your tongue that well but you tried anyhow. You were quite eager to learn the functions of a toaster or television up close. Dustin was happy to teach you of course as well, but the moment Steve discovered you he disapproved of your excitement for “dangerous” things.
You continued to ramble about anything that came to mind. Eddie would comment or nod his head for you to go on. Eventually it turned to you describing the world from your eyes. You didn’t touch on your life in the walls but you continued.
Eddie shifted in his seat and now loomed over you. You actually had to catch your breath from how much you spoke. You hadn’t had someone to listen to you for so long, engaged and encouraging. The shadow over your gave you chills and Eddie’s eyes looked black from the lack of sun. Though his eyes twinkled with a kindness and softness you weren’t expecting.
You stood up looking up at him. Neck craned up to meet his face. His knuckle rested under his chin with eyes down on you. Your heartbeat rose and your face felt hot all of a sudden.
Though the gazes were lost when there was banging outside of the van. You immediately jumped and looked around for the best exit. Habits die hard you supposed.
Eddie watched you frantically look for a safe spot to hide. He frowned at your panicked state and got up. You did find a spot behind a tissue just in case.
When Eddie opened the door he was baffled to say the least. You heard your name be called out by none other than Steve. A breath of relief escaped your lips.
He was loud and upset as he shoved passed Eddie. The brunette continued to call your name while Eddie tried to calm him down. Assure him that you were okay, but that didn’t do it for Steve.
It wasn’t until he saw you on the scratched up wooden table that he dropped to his knees. His face being the only thing in your vision. Immediately bombarded with questions if you were okay, and after minutes assuring you were okay he seemed at ease.
Steve then put his hand behind your and scooped you up. Warmth enveloped your body as your stomach flipped. His thumb gently pressed on the left side of your face.
“Oh my god, Steve,” You huffed.
He was still making sure you were okay. You couldn’t help but smile at him being careful. Him cradling you in his hand had become routine. Of course he usually asked but when he was in a panic he couldn’t help it.
“Ouch, I’m not crazy Harrington,” Eddie said from behind him.
You looked behind Steve’s shoulder to see Eddie fiddling with his rings again. Steve turned around and his shoulders dropped.
“Sorry, just wish Dustin told me what he was planning. The kid is doing whatever he wants these days,” He said in response.
“Oh trust me I know,” Eddie said and crossed his arms over his chest.
“It’s an attitude problem,” You chimed in.

back at it again, just a draft i probably won’t finish.
tiny!steve x human!y/n
4-5inch tiny!steve (mornings)
fluff
comfy morning vibes
grammar isn’t perfect and i haven’t double checked it.
word count: 459
You woke up with heavy eyelids opening to face the walls which held your window. The drapes let in a sliver of light in your view. You felt stiff and your body ached without making a move. The comforters on your queen bed kept you nice and warm. The side of your head pressed up against a pillow as your eyes fluttered to the sight in front of you.
Your hands were wrapped around the tiny man beside you. He was about a foot away from your face. Steve draped under the palm of your hand acting as a blanket. His limbs wrapped around your fingers. His head using your ring finger as a pillow. The man seemed relaxed under your touch. You stopped yourself from moving even an inch as you watched him sleep.
His ghost of a breath hit the side of your palm. He was laying on his side facing away from you. You couldn’t help but crack a small smile at the sight. His body was only covered in a black t-shirt and shorts as the rest of his bare skin was hugged against your heated skin.
This was the first time you finally let Steve get his way. It’d been days since you finally let him sleep by your side. He’d practically begged to sleep with you.
When he dozed off last night you didn’t fall asleep for another hour. Your heart panged against your chest along with nerves. Even with him in your hand it still worried you. It worried you that you could have hurt him. Though clearly he thought differently, and he was right.
You just watched with your other arm under your pillow. The light bothered you as you continued to watch Steve. You let out a small sigh which hit him and made him shiver. You stopped your breathing as you watched him with your muscles tensing.
Steve slowly shifted in your hand. He took his head off your finger and propped himself up. His small hands a ghost against your skin as he turned around. You instantly felt cold with him missing in those spots.
You were met with a mess of hair and a very tired Steve. He yawned instantly as he pressed his back against your palm. The heat gives you nothing but flips in your stomach.
“Morning,” You broke the silence quietly.
“Morning,” He yawned, again.
He resisted the urge to melt into your touch. To go back to sleep because it was the first time he slept so well in a very long time. He couldn’t admit it out loud but it was most likely the best sleep he ever had.
He tiredly looked up at you and your heart was going to explode.

tiny!steve x human!y/n
concept inspired by: @sviolet-sizefeels
5inch tiny!steve (café one shot)
fluff
lil bit of angst
perhaps fearplay?? a little
written 2nd person
be warned not perfect grammar probably lmao.
all lowercase, once i use my computer i’ll capitalize it (different version tho)
based off of plot i’m building for it
word count: 2,500
start:
“harrington, stop,” you muttered as the man was getting out of your purse. almost teetering the bag over so you held it back with your hand.
you’d wanted to get a cup of coffee, and you really just needed a change of scenery. plus have an excuse to not answer the door at home. everyone was worried about steve and even when you insisted he was okay or okay as he could be. everyone. rushed to your door to see him. you didn’t mind seeing them for a couple days but by the end of the week it tired you out.
meanwhile you’d been trying to help steve. being hit with the shrink serum, is what dustin called it, really made life harder for steve.
steve couldn’t help but agree and felt bad that you seemed to be mistrusted. though he never mentioned the latter out loud.
except dustin. you enjoyed his company and so did steve even if he didn’t admit it all the time. plus he didn’t see as unreliable.
you’d made yourself help steve since you two were friends and he even agreed he felt the safest with you.
though right now you were starting to regret taking in the five inch tall man.
“oh my god,” you groaned as you kept your hand beside him. the atrociously pink purse was emptied so you could take steve with you. it just happened to be the most convenient despite his annoyance.
“it’s always dead in here,” steve argued as he placed one of his legs over the zipper.
“no one is goi—,” and just like that he toppled over. falling on top of the beige cushion in your booth with a small thud.
you watched him amused now as he was facing away from you. he swore under his breath which you couldn’t hear, but definitely assumed what it could be. your hand still on the purse wanting to swoop him up instead. your fingers twitched at the thought but you didn’t.
“you okay?” you asked and once he propped himself up he nodded.
his face had flushed red as his attempts left him embarrassing himself, again. though you two had been friends long enough to know you didn’t really care. but you would tease the shit out of him.
relaxing your hand you leaned your arm on the booth. your body turned to him as you leaned over him trying to shield him from anyone’s prying eyes.
it was true though, it was just the coffee shop owner in the place. your favorite café had died down in popularity ever since the mall opened but even when it closed people stopped coming. except you, and the friends you dragged in.
you were watching steve with soft eyes. taking in his hair which was flatter than usual. not kept up as nice without the hair product he swore on his life with. the hands that were used to fight to get you out of bad situations were now about the size of your fingertip. he wore his blue jacket which covered his blue and white shirt. it was matched with a pair of jeans and shoes.
it was what he was wearing that night when he’d gone from almost 6ft to 5 inches in less than a second. it irked you that it was such a sudden event and because of steve’s stupid leadership skills it led to this outcome. you were with him too, you’d let him go ahead of you because he insisted. because steve always came back from everything and—
your name reached your ears as you blinked away teary eyes. that pretty face looked at you with concern. he’d walked closer to you, standing right by your thigh.
“jesus—,” you muttered as you wiped your eyes.
steve patiently waited for you to process whatever you were going through. a pit in his stomach formed that he wasn’t able to put a hand on your shoulder. to give you the hugs that you’d ask for on bad days. protect you from all the bad things but instead he was standing there useless.
“pretty rough week,” you commented once you’d composed yourself.
“you’re telling me,” steve said and leaned his shoulder on your thigh. arms crossed over his chest. the weight he put on you was so light that if you weren’t looking you wouldn’t have paid mind to it. his eyes were fixated on you as he gave you a small smile.
you let out a soft laugh which hit his ears. causing him to smile more because your laugh was just that contagious for him.
the tension easing you looked up at the register to see no one was there. it seemed no one else was in the small building. anyhow you had sat down in the booth farthest back from the entrance which didn’t have a window. hiding just in case.
slowly you put your hand beside steve. his muscles tensed when it was set by his side. everything being big was still overwhelming at times. though as your fingers wrapped his back and your thumb gently placed on his chest he
did relax a little. it had begun to be routine on multiple occasions to swoop him up.
slowly with the small life in your hand you slowly lifted him up. both of you locking eyes as hints of blush remained on his face. his arms wrapped around your thumb for stability. being in the air made his stomach drop but his faith in you helped him overcome the fear. even though it was still in the back of his mind.
then just like that his feet touched the ground again, lightly his shoes tapped the table as you released your hold. the warmth of your fingertips around him disappeared and he felt cold. the thrum of your pulse no longer around him.
he just kept staring at you in awe, like he didn’t believe what he was seeing. you couldn’t help but feel heat rise to your face. you quickly looked away and looked down at your small porcelain plate.
“um, i got a cookie, if you want some,” you broke the silence with your hands on your lap. “before i eat it all,” you added with a smile.
blinking steve turned his eyes over to the plate. still trying to recover from his daze he walked over to the plate which was to the right of you. closer to the wall while on your left there was coffee.
watching him walk off you shifted your attention to the pen and paper in front of you. there were a couple stacked books too. you were trying to figure out what was happening in Hawkins, again.
scribbling down notes from the first night of any weird events happening. to endless possibilities which seemed to give you more of a headache. luckily nothing severe happened, yet. only giving a bruised ego… or smaller ego for steve.
starting to write again you watched steve with a handful of your sugar cookie in hand. you bit the inside of your cheek to resist the laugh bubbling up in your throat. he looked so ridiculous sitting down criss crossed beside the plate. enjoying the sugary treat.
his eyes looked up at you to notice your grin. his brows rose, confused what seemed so funny.
“what?” he asked as he took a bite from his hand.
“nothing,” you lied and shifted your eyes to your paper.
“oh come on,” he said with mouth full of food. “anything i do now is funny,” steve complained
you didn’t comment, pretending to not hear anything. if anything he was cute but you’d always thought that. now your fondness of him happened to multiply.
steve continued to take bites until he was done. you had opened a book which you stuffed with news articles. though you weren’t known to be the smartest of the group. you were just a quick thinker and helped pull together ideas every now and then.
letting out a sigh you ran your fingers through your hair. this was getting old, to not being able to do anything. at least you got to help steve, you thought.
noticing your frustration, steve walked over to your arm that rested on the table. he placed his hands on your forearm which you flinched at. he then leaned over to see the papers scattered across the table.
“nothing?” he asked and you painfully nodded.
this sucked.
steve just stared down at the papers not reading them. the disappointment was clear as a light frown formed on his lips. his brows scrunched down in worry and those puppy dog eyes staring down in defeat. his shoulders had dropped and you wished you could cheer him up.
“hey,” you said softly.
“we’ll figure it out, maybe not us but i mean… we have dustin… uhmmm nancy too,” you offered with a sad smile.
“oh yeah, you saying dustin will fix ‘this,” he gestured to himself. “really is reassuring,” he said with sarcasm interlaced along with his words.
you cringed at your use of words and couldn’t help but think if you were in the same situation, it would suck for a freshman, a kid, to be your only sense of hope.
“you’re right, sorry,” you apologized with your nose scrunched up.
you then grabbed the mug to the left of you and you took a sip. the coffee had cooled off and now was lukewarm but you didn’t care. you were desperate for caffeine.
“but at least i’m with you,” steve said as you were mid-sip. making you choke on your drink not expecting it. then a coughing fit followed as you turned away from him immediately. banging a fist on your chest as if it would help. it was a sweet comment but it hit you like a truck.
“you okay?” the owner asked and poked his head out.
you nodded as tears formed in your eyes. after a few softer coughs you’d gotten all the coffee through the right pipe. the owner had disappeared when the coughs died down with a shaking head.
turning around to face you was an amused steve. hands on his hips and all the worries he had seemed to dissipate. he had that smug grin on his face.
“oh don’t look at me like that,” you rasped with a flushed face.
“glad to know i still have my charm,” he joked, which earned an eye roll from.
“you’re on thin ice, harrington,” you warned but a faint smile wandered on your face.
“maybe i should drop you off at dustin’s on my way home,” you taunted with the same smile.
steve squinted up at you as you reached your hand over him. grabbing the cookie and pausing when you noticed his face cringing.
“don’t even joke about, it sounds awful,” he shut down your attempt at joking. “he has a cat too,” he shivered in remembrance of the cute feline which could hurt him or worse.
you’d downed on the cookie and started to wipe your hands with a napkin. wiping your face as you looked down at steve.
“mhmm, nancy then?” you continued.
“too awkward,” steve said and looked at you.
“awh, but what happened to your charm?” you teased which he rolled his eyes.
“robin then, or max,” you decided as you placed your napkin on a plate. steve instantly scoffed.
“i feel like you’re trying to get rid of me,” steve said with his arms crossed.
“maybe,” you shrugged, a smile slipping away. “since everyone seems to not trust me,” you added and immediately regretted it.
“what?” steve asked, his hands dropping to his sides.
“umm nevermind,” you shook your head and went through your pockets for change. placing it down on the table and starting to sort your books.
you heard your name and ignored it. damn, you shouldn’t have said anything. the pit in your stomach formed and you voiced your stupid thoughts.
“come on,” steve said as you got up. distancing yourself from him with your purse in hand. you placed it on the table but the man refused to move.
“steve,” you begged.
“just forget it,” you said.
“no, why would you think that?” he asked and your fingers twitched again. you hated you both were so stubborn.
“because,” you sighed and licked your lips. “fuck, because they check in everyday to make sure you’re alive. i get phone calls from nancy constantly. visits from robin and max. like they don’t believe me when i tell them you’re okay,” you explained looking away from him. your eyes focused out at the window with annoyance.
steve spoke your name in a soft tone as your eyes got glassy. it sucked after all these years it seemed like you couldn’t be trusted or maybe it’s the anxiety you had.
“can we just go home?” you begged as you picked the purse up. slipping it up your shoulder and looking down at him. you placed your books under your arm.
not coming up with the right words, steve nodded. walking up to the edge of the table with dread. a sinking feeling in his chest that he hadn’t noticed the way you got quiet or the annoyed tone was because of them. the guilty look in your eyes as they asked subtle questions to steve about his well being.
he felt so stupid.
all of a sudden warm hands wrapped around him as he was lifted into the air. his stomach doing flips because this part never seemed to get easier. even when he was secured in a purse.
one hand on top of the other to ensure security for steve. two digits pressed on the back of his head as a thumb acted as a seatbelt. the light touch was a learning process for both of them. the first couple of days of his state were rough to say the least.
“i’m sorry they made you feel like that,” steve spoke up as he pressed his hands over your thumb. you had brought him up closer to your chest as you backed into the door, swinging it open.
“but, uh, you make me feel safe,” he said to you. your teared up eyes in his view.
“so thanks,” he said with a small smile. unsure if he had said the right thing or not. you paused on the sidewalk as you looked down at him.
“you really do have a charm,” you said with a smile. pressing your thumb gently on the side of his face. a gesture for his kindness as his heart fluttered.
just like that you’d gotten into your car. driven off with steve on your lap. while he planned talking the groups ear off the next time he saw them. watching a horror movie because you insisted you could handle it. you didn’t, but steve was there.
it was a pretty good day since the chaos.
