In basso il celebre dipinto Guernica di Pablo Picasso. Una guardia tedesca in visita allo studio di del genio spagnolo chiese: “Ha fatto lei questo orrore?” “No. È opera vostra.” Il bombardamento di Guernica (nome in codice Operazione Rügen) fu un'incursione aerea compiuta dalla Legione Condor con la partecipazione dell'Aviazione Legionaria italiana contro l'omonima città basca il 26 aprile 1937, durante la guerra civile spagnola. Le forze aeree italo-tedesche dichiararono di aver avuto come obiettivo dell'attacco il ponte Rentería, sul fiume Mundakako Itsasadarra, per appoggiare gli sforzi bellici dei nazionalisti franchisti nell'offensiva in corso nella provincia basca della Biscaglia per rovesciare le forze fedeli al governo della Repubblica spagnola, bombe che il forte vento deviò sulla città. In realtà si trattò di un bombardamento terroristico contro la popolazione civile e contro la città, come risulta da fonti e testimonianze sia contemporanee all’evento sia del dopoguerra. The Estuary of Bilbao (Spanish: Ría de Bilbao / Basque: Bilboko Itsasadarra) lies at the common mouth of the rivers Nervion, Ibaizabal and Cadagua, that drain most of Biscay and part of Alava in the Basque Country, Spain. In this instance, the Spanish word estuario is used to describe what in English would normally be called part estuary, part tidal river. The estuary becomes a tidal river which extends 16 km (9.9 mi) into the city of Bilbao, starting from the Bilbao Abra bay. It hosts the port of Bilbao throughout its length, although the Port Authority has recently restored most of the upper reaches to Bilbao and other municipalities for their urban regeneration. Today marks 35 years of the launch of the ATYLA in Lekeitio and we want to celebrate it by taking a look to the past. What began in Soria as the dream of one person, Esteban Vicente, is today a beautiful ship that makes the dreams of many people come true. Over the years she had almost as many different names as crew changes, but she has kept her spirit intact. She still belongs to the same family and today is the nephew of Esteban, Rodrigo De La Serna, who has taken the helm of the project. It's been six years since ATYLA became a sail training ship and four since she has her base port in the Bilboko Itsasadarra Itsas Museoa - Museo Marítimo Ría de Bilbao. returning to her Basque roots. It was in the same river of Bilbao, very close to where she stays during winter, where she received her engine and two masts. Today we want to remember all the people who have made it possible for ATYLA to continue sailing the sea. From the people of the town of Lekeitio and all the people who worked in the construction of the boat, to all the crew, professionals and volunteers who have taken the ship around the world, without forgetting all the adventurous people who has come to sail with us.
