John Brown’s actions were great but i feel like 90% of the reason why he’s been eulogized so prolifically in the past few years is because American ‘leftists,’ particularly anarchists, demsocs, and christian socialists (which this website is still rife with for some reason), are desperate for history to furnish them with heroes, but are ideologically unwilling to recognize the accomplishments of actual socialists leaders and programs because that would necessarily entail coming to terms with the triumphs of non-American entities, namely the USSR, China, Cuba, etc.
