JOEL SAYING HE PLANNED TO GIVE JIMMY TIME WAS SUCH A ONE-OFF RANDOM LINE BUT IT STUCK WITH ME SO BAD bc jimmy just had no idea bc joel only ever said it after jimmy died.

i would absolutely love to share some bonuses from that fic!! i have the rest of the convo joel & grian have written out and it’s just dialogue, no introspection or anything bc i just wanted i have a basic idea of where that convo was going so bear in mind, very rough draft, no editing, just the direct thoughts from my head:

i wanted this scene to start off as being very antagonistic and thats what jimmy sees and then after he leaves, it becomes a little softer and kinder. despite the fact that i always write grian and joel as being so antagonistic towards each other, they genuinely do care about each other so much and they are capable of some softness with each other. i think it's important for their relationship that there is both love and hatred at the same time

another scene that isn't included in the fic but is in my head is one where okay so yk how the scene where grian and joel kiss starts with joel arguing with jimmy about grian? in my head, joel comes into that scene so pissed bc he was just with grian being all romantic or whatever and grian was treating him with a certain softness that joel doesn't think grian is capable of treating him with and he assumes that grian is treating him like he would scar. thats what gets the "because im not scar" outburst out of joel when he and grian are kissing. something about gribeans to me is that they understand each other better than anybody else but they also misunderstand each other a lot bc they assume the worst of each other. i dont think grian was projecting scar onto joel at all in that particular time (during other times, absolutely, but not this one). he was just treating joel with some genuine kindness and softness and joel misunderstood it bc he just inherently doesn't believe that grian is capable of that with him

a lot of the scenes that jimmy misunderstand are also i think bc he assumes the worst of joel and grian. like for example, he gets pissed that when he asks if grian is the boogeyman, joel answers for him but joel didnt intend any malice in it, he was just genuinely answering jimmy bc grian was out of earshot. however at this point, jimmy is so used to grian and joel excluding him that he immediately takes it as "they cant even be bothered to speak to me individually" and this isnt to say that grian & joel dont exclude jimmy in that fic bc they absolutely do (jimmy better than i am honestly bc its awful) but sometimes jimmy does just assume the worst of them

(take a shot every time i say "i think" about my own writing. its bc i dont actually ever write anything at all, the characters just speak to me)

the thing about my gribeans fics is that in my head, all the kinda “canon compliant” ones that i write take place in the same universe like in only my lover, joel and grian argue about last life and jimmy has no idea what happened in last life so it’s never explained, but in the last life fic that i’m writing rn, THATS the situation they were arguing about. it’s like the maruyaaya gribeans cinematic universe LMFAO

the fun thing about my mom playing flight rising is she'll just ignore parts of the canon lore she doesn't like and take vague stuff from it and make it fucking insane. there are two active wars going on in her sornieth. the founders of her clan are refugees. i moved to water for the dom benefits and she followed and her in-lore excuse was that our past flight was getting invaded by another flight in the form of a storm.
