Happy Wednesday, friends! Thanks for the tags @larkral @wellbelesbian @prettygoododds and @you-remind-me-of-the-babe!! I loved all the snippets.
Writing is still going very slowly but steadily, which I guess is progress. I'm also trying to do some Preptober for Nanowrimo and yesterday I had some ideas that are making me very excited about this story.
But anyway! Here's a new snippet from the fic I shared on Sunday (very pleased that people still remember the premise even if it's been more than a year):
Sophie sits up on my back, asking her sister to play knight and princess with her. (I assume I'm the horse in this scenario.)
Petra doesn't cooperate, but even in the absence of complicated games it still takes Daphne almost twenty minutes to force the twins to follow her into the bathroom. Baz re-enters my field of vision right then, shaved and dressed and smirking. He looks down at me, eyebrow cocked, hand on his hip.
“Is it so hard to get up, Snow?” he winks.
I hide my face in the pillow.
I'm going to take a break from this fic to work on something else that I ALSO started ages ago. Old snippet from that and tags under the cut <3
Apparently the mood of all these snippets is that everyone's horny.
Salisbury groans. The sound does not go straight to my neglected cock, because I am not desperate that I haven't had sex in months. (I deleted my profiles from every dating app when [REDACTED]'s stupid dad matched with me and only thought of letting me know I was his son's teacher when his dick was well on its way to my stomach.) (And I'm no longer able to meet people the old fashioned way—I like the way dating apps have of clearing out any doubt: yes, I'm queer, yes, I want to be fucked until I can't remember my name.)
And I definitely do not like Salisbury. (I just lust after him.) (And wonder what our children would look like.)
Ah, Baz.

Preptober: WCtS Update 2
Tumblr media
I am doing NaNoWriMo (for the first time!) this year. Currently we are in the midst of Preptober and progress is being made on the outlining, research, character profiles, and world-building. I’ve encountered some snags and impulse-bought another book.
(Read my introduction of WCtS here, and my previous update here).
Chapters One and Two has been outlined. There might be seven chapters in each of the three parts? I want it to be even, but I know this is the first draft and chapters aren’t part of the plan for the final product anyway. I actually really do want to create and polish this project into an eventual, actual book via traditional publishing, but I know that goal is years in the future.
I really like outlining and consolidating all of my notes in Notion, which may I mention is FREE (unlike Scrivener). It’s not quite as versatile as Scrivener, since it isn’t designed for the specific purpose of writing/organizing novels, but the learning curve is easier.
The book I impulse-bought is The Terror by Dan Simmons, which is a re-telling of the disastrous Franklin Expedition of 1845 with a few fantastical twists. It’s fiction. It’s also 700-some pages, so I have no idea how I am going to get through this before the end of November. I’m not just hoping to enjoy the story for its own sake, but also to mine it for details about the lives of explorers in the Arctic in the nineteenth century.
I designed a calendar for my world. It uses a ten month system with the month names (loosely) based on Cornish ordinal numbers. (A Latin prefix jumped in for the 8th month, unfortunately, because I’m weak). The standard unit of days is still called a week even though it has six days instead of seven. I don’t know whether I want to come up with a whole set of weekday names, however -- I can’t use irl English-language weekday names because those are derived from Germanic myth, which doesn’t exist in my world.
Still need to come up with a religious system.
Currently wrestling with Chapter Three. My protagonist is a wealthy, white, upper-class woman, and her future husband is dark-skinned, only moderately wealthy, and from Nouveau Riche family. I’m trying to figure out why Protagonist’s family would allow her to marry this man.
