In the wake of war, the populace suffer. A leader must unite for serenity to reign. Hsi, tread with caution, and join our sacred duty. To defend the city and its folk with honor and fervency.

I recently got to see the Nier Orchestra Concert and it was quite literally a magical experience and I was close to tears at the end. I had to draw something to honor both Replicant and Automata. These games and its OST mean so much to me and they are so so special.

honestly one of the funniest video game events i can remember is a live 32 piece orchestra performing the Overwatch Overture during one of geof keely's 16th birthday partys as a hype builder for the best video game OST then quietly and quickly they announce its Nier Automata.

today i reached ending a and started route b in nier automata and i can't stop thinking about it.
if it's going to hold the quality for the rest of its runtime, then it might be the best game i've played since signalis almost two years ago
same goes for its ost

♫ kainé/salvation - nier ost nier automata au
it’s always been strange to luciel that androids were programmed with personality traits. he knows that siwoo, in particular, was programmed with ‘honesty’. though that somehow came with ‘curiosity’, which could be a good thing since he’s a scanner-type android. he still never quite understood why androids needed such things, but questioning the council of humanity’s decisions never once cross his mind.
he’s just a battler-type android, all he needs to do is to follow instructions and keep an eye on siwoo.
they’ve been assigned as partners for a long time. luciel is good at coordinating with fellow androids, but with siwoo sometimes…. they ran into trouble. one of those troubles had led to their present situation: a freaky head plastered onto a sales vehicle requesting them to find some flowers.
“it sounds suspicious, we should report it it immediately,” luciel told siwoo.
“huh? we should give it a try, hello? it looks fucking weird but it seems… nice?” the other blinked his eyes at him. “this is my duty, let’s just go with it. i need to know more.”
luciel took some time to process a decision, then sighed, “i should also tell headquarters to remove your ‘vulgarity’.”
“what the- fuck you???” siwoo responded, probably on purpose.
nevertheless, they went ahead with it. they had no reason to refuse its requests anyways, perhaps they could discover more information about the machine lifeforms they were fighting to send the data back to headquarters. siwoo made the right decision.
after finding those flowers three times, it brought them to a place underground.
it’s dark, which is natural for an underground place. yet luciel couldn’t help but to remain still for a brief moment to take in the scenery lighted up by a field of glowing white flowers.
the cart lifeform sounded extremely happy and started rambling about its past, how it once had a main body that split into pieces to protect earth. it’s weird, none of this was recorded the library of data. and that is what siwoo said.
“and i thought we knew everything… hey, nii-san, let’s go look around,” siwoo goes head to explore, even though there isn’t actually much other than a bunk bed with a roof right in the middle of the field. according to the cart, a human used to live in it. “that’s weird, this bunk bed feels familiar…” siwoo mumbles, crossing his arms while staring at the bed.
luciel stays silent.
“it’s my first time seeing this flower, but why does it feel so fami-”
“oh! this is a lunar tear!” the cart interrupts abruptly. “these used to grow all over the place, like the desert… but eventually the sand took over the soil and it stopped growing. this was a dear friend’s favourite flower. you can have one though! i’ll give one to you!”
“really? that sounds like a sad story… but thanks. hey, luciel nii-san, why are you so quiet for?”
luciel scoffs at him, “reporting to headquarters about what we discovered, of course.”
yorha no.8 type S has rediscovered lunar tears. he is showing signs of recovering his 32nd life’s memories data. proceed for execution?
memories. no, that’s wrong. how could luciel make that kind of mistake? androids only have data that can be implanted, altered, or deleted; they were nothing like memories.
luciel’s finger hovers over the ‘send’ button. his eyes turn to lay upon siwoo, chatting away happily with the cart. he’s always wondered… what was the personality trait that was programmed into himself? androids shouldn’t feel pain or remorse when they destroy a fellow android, and yet at his core it feels… crushing.
it’s for the sake of humanity, he tells himself in his mind repeatedly.
“hey, what’s up?”
the executioner battler-type android smiled.
“did you know, lunar tears are said to grant wishes?”
“no way, are you serious?!”
report received. execute yorha no.8 type S.
“mmh. you were the one who told me a long time ago.”
luciel never believed that a flower could grant wishes, only god could do that. but once upon a time during the duration of siwoo’s 19th life… he foolishly thought it was possible.

My Personal Top 10 KH Music Ranking That Nobody Asked For, because really, I could talk about music all day. So, here we are! :D
(1-5 are songs that overwrote some part of my brain chemistry. 6-10 are amazing and still give me happy brain syndrome upon listening to.)
1. "Nachtflügel" - KH3
Objectively incredible feat of musical composition that should go down in history- that piano work is ridiculous. I don't even know what to say, really. Went into a trance-like state while listening to this for the first time. If this was able to usurp "Enter the Void" for me, you know this is good. When that beautiful, soaring melody comes in around 0:40, you just wanna cry. When that lower, mournful motion comes in around 2:10 mark, just... godly. It's like flying but with darkened angel wings; don't know how else to describe it- menacing but free. I'm bad with describing how music makes me feel, because it's often just so MUCH. Very dynamic, excellent, showstopping, etc. Can't wait for Shimomura to ascend to musician heaven in a chariot of fire.
2. "Enter the Void" BBS
When I first heard this I was filled with such unparalleled levels of energy that I can't communicate effectively. The rhythm from the drums and horns is something primal that you feel in your soul. Feels so heroic. I am going to war /positive. When the strings hit around a minute in, I feel like I'm flying. Around 1:50 in, when the orchestra comes in after that brief break, I legitimately almost cried from the euphoria, haha.
3. "Forze Dell'Oscurita" - BBS/KH3
That intro is just godlike. Not much more to say. Spiritually froth at the mouth with all the Xehanort-related motifs present here. Both versions are awesome AF, with me maaaybe picking the KH3 version if I had to, purely because of that flute trill at the beginning, and those horns.
4. "Musique pour la tristesse de Xion" - 358/2 Days
Beautiful mixture of Riku and Kairi's theme. When it gets to Kairi's leitmotif, the melody is so dreamy and ethereal- absolutely gorgeous.
5. "The 13th Reflection" - KH2
So hype. That's it. So hype. Grandiose and beautiful both in original forms and remastered version. I go bonkers. It's got that Final Fantasy percussive pattern I love.
6. "Enter the Darkness" - BBS Version
The usage of Ventus', Roxas', and ESPECIALLY how Sora's leitmotifs come into the melody are excellently executed and exhilarating. And don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the addition of the electric guitar in the KH3 version, but the original hits in its own way that the other version didn't. And shout-out to that part of "Unbreakable Chains" with Sora's leitmotif but super jazzy and darker in tone. Love that.
The cutscene where this track first started playing in DDD is forever tattooed in my mind, because the visual and musical transition into the fight was magnificent. It's got Destati, it's got Ansem KH1 fight theme. It's good shit.
7. "L'Eminenza Oscura I" - DDD or KH3 version. Both rock.
"You can try."
*WHOOOSH*
*PIANO LIMIT BREAK*
("You can't protect ANYTHING." Damn Ansem, chill out, Riku's just sixteen. Stop capitalizing on his insecurities.)
8. "Sacred Distance" - DDD
The usage of a mournful, trailed off version of Dearly Beloved's piano is so poignant for this ost, as encountering this track after finding out "Dearly Beloved's" significance to Sora and Riku's connection and seeing Sora's dangerous position in the plot at TWTNW signifies that the broken down parts of Dearly Beloved's melody littered throughout the song is no coincidence. It gives the stark feeling something is wrong/missing. I look like that "Patrick Bateman listening to music with his eyes closed" meme while listening to this track. That violin part...
9. "Treasured Memories" - KH1
In the words of someone who overheard my playlist: "That sounds like something I'd play while depressed to stay depressed." It's been immortalized in my mind since. It also reminds me somewhat of the City Ruins piece from NieR: Automata. Very serene and melancholic.
10. "Lazy Afternoons" - CoM version
I loved this version with the leading harmonica so much I didn't care for the KH2 version nearly as much as a result. Y'know that part of Ratatouille where Ego eats the dish and he gets mentally zapped back to his childhood? That's what this song felt like.
Honorable Mentions:
a. "Forze Del Male" - KH1 Version
It just can't be beat. That opening is on par with FFIX's "The Dark Messenger" in terms of memorable villain organ theme intros, for me.
b. "My Heart's Descent" - DDD
My favorite version of the "Dive into the Heart" melodies. Feels dreamlike (lol, wonder why) and so very Important in a way beyond my petty understanding.
c. "The Eye of Darkness"
Cool combat rendition of "Dive into the Heart."
d. "It Began With a Letter" - KH1
So soft. Feels like home.
e. "Keyblade Cycle" - DDD
GROOVIN'.

It's so easy to forget the context of a song when you just listen to a game's OST on its own (or a film or show for that matter) but man, revisiting it and remembering why a piece was so impactful is... absolutely incredible.
Yes I just got to the Amusement Park in NieR Automata, how can you tell?

Stellar Blade is so NieR coded. From the beginning to its OSTs, it's quite similar to Route C of Automata in my opinion.

This all refuses to leave my brain so I’m subjecting the rest of you to it as well. Welcome to Ravus song association that no one asked for and is based entirely off of ✨vibes✨ because I don’t listen to anything with lyrics
Wretched Weaponry - Nier Automata OST
The song of a reluctant commander. Somber vocals play over a mechanical military march-like beat.
Agniratha, Mechonis Capital - Xenoblade Chronicles OST
The song of a lost city. Tenebrae, a beautiful home he can no longer return to. In all honesty, this may require a bit of context about the city of Agniratha to fully understand. A once gorgeous capital now abandoned as most of its population was wiped out in a devastating attack, the survivors displaced somewhere far, far away. Overrun with enemies who will attack on sight.
Sealed Vessel - Hollow Knight OST
The battle against a tragic hero, one infected, fighting against themselves. They retain enough consciousness to understand that they are a threat, that they need to die and so they do all they can, but their infection fights back just as hard to destroy anything it seems as a threat, which is everything.

oh fuck right and also:
so so so much of the Nier: Automata OST in all its arrangements and variations
I'm a sucker for playlists and am wondering if you have one for The Archive Undying?
I mostly listen to OSTs when writing (lyrics distract!!) so I can share that I listened to a lot of:
the Anthem OST (really wish i'd had any interest in this game bc the aesthetic is in so many ways pitch perfect for Archive)
Jack de Quidt's work for the Divine Cycle of Friends at the Table, particularly counter/WEIGHT
a bunch of battle map music from Fire Emblem: Three Houses for mech fights
various music from Mushishi
folks have also sent me music that reminds them of the book and I really have to make a playlist out of all that bc 1) i love it, thank you, 2) their taste is generally fantastic and i would like to incentivize ppl to feed me more
(the playlist i built for the Archive sequel is kind of an exception to the rule! i do have more songs to share bc lol some of them have taken on multiple meanings, and by this i am terribly pleased.)

i have a good one.. tho its a bit long. erm.. mafia au where (any character in haikyuu, surprise me because i can't think of one) and his s/o is in a mafia and they don't know that they're supposed to be enemies until the mafia leader demands the s/o to kill him then she realises whats going on... end it however you want
ooo interesting! this was fun to write, with the right music, it was just a blast, so i hope you enjoy reading this as much as i enjoyed writing this!
oh and a mini note: i’m still working on the boosting event requests, just in case you think i haven’t! i’m kind of a slow poke and this week has been pretty packed and messy for me, so i haven’t really gotten the time to make huge progress with them… please bear with me! thank you╰(*´︶`*)╯
You remember the day you first met Iwaizumi.
With the bug of a wandering eye falling upon you, you had selected that day to stray away from your mission, just for a little, seeing how your subordinates seemed to have everything under control.
The warmth of the sun rays remained etched in your mind — every single detail sharpened and magnified; not one detail was left out of your memory, and if you had to draw a comparison, it was like how a camera is blurred until it focuses on its intended target. It feels as though your world was muffled, with his presence suddenly sharpening everything around you, pushing you to break past the surface of the water.
You weren’t a believer of love at first sight; it was an absurd idea, it just wasn’t possible. Those things took time, and you remained true to your beliefs. Besides, along with the loss of your innocence the moment you joined the mafia, came the resignation that love was simply not meant to be in your life.
Iwaizumi had somehow managed to singlehandedly, make you waver slightly in your beliefs. There was something different about him that made you want to approach him. You remember bounding up to him, accidentally spilling the coffee in your hands, onto the neatly pressed dress shirt of his. Even a mafia member like you, weren’t exempt from the typical methods used to strike up a conversation.
“Ah shit,” you cursed, immediately righting yourself in front of him, pulling out the small packet of tissues tucked into the back pocket of your pants, before frantically dabbing at his shirt.
“I’m so sorry!” you say. “Let me help you clean up,” you offer, your voice taking on a slightly mischievous tone, an impish grin fighting to slide onto your face.
“Ah… uh, it’s alright,” he responds, pinching at the shirt and pulling it away from his body. “No, I insist.” Without waiting for his reply, you led him to a nearby bench, to resume the blotting of the coffee, though you were sure it was going to stain pretty badly.
“I don’t think it’s coming off,” you frown, your next move ready in your mind. “Let’s try this instead — I’ll buy you a new shirt.” Stopping your hands, you pull out your wallet, thick with wads of bills. A raised brow, but he doesn’t say anything about your wealth, instead, he tries to protest, only to be shot down.
“…Alright, but if it’s too expensive, I’ll be footing the bill,” he replies with no room for argument.
“Fine,” you grin, boldly slipping your fingers around his wrist, tugging him to the nearest clothing store.
Bingo.
On hindsight, you knew there had to be a reason why you were attracted to him — people in general, weren’t your cup of tea. Or rather, ordinary people were too much of a bore for you. It was just that, no reason you could come up with would come close to the actual reason why. Whatever part about you that came up with judgements against people clearly misjudged Iwaizumi, landing you into your current situation.
Iwaizumi’s picture sits right in front, the words ‘target’ scrawled across his face messily, in a bold red. Along with the picture, came details of him. One of them catches your eye. The next successor, it reads, and a shiver crawls up your spine. Of all people he could be, he just had to be the next successor of your rivals, a group your boss has been trying to eliminate since its establishment.
A simple command is delivered to you, and you couldn’t help but shudder when you heard it.
“Your next target. I expect you to do a good job.”
Short and simple — there was no room for rejection, no room for failure. You quiver at the thought of failing; death was one thing, but it didn’t scare you more than the thought of betraying your boss, the one who saved your life. Yet at the same time, losing Iwaizumi… It wasn’t something fathomable. You were on a beam balance, reluctant to fall to either side, because it would mean losing the other.
What… do you do?
That night, you laid in Iwaizumi’s arms, body and mind a mess, yet still hoping that his presence would somehow soothe your heart. He had the capability to do that, you realise, and tonight you needed it more than ever.
But peace fails to find its way to you — the familiar curve of the dagger pressing against your thigh, a constant reminder of the duty you were supposed to fulfil.
Iwaizumi’s steady breaths fanned your cheek, the warmth lingering faintly after each breath. His sleeping face was really a sight to behold, one that looked so at ease that it causes your heart to squeeze in pain. With a gentle caress of the cheek, he stirs, his arms wounding tighter around you, and it was at that moment you realise how full your heart was; full of love for him, a fact that never seemed to really resonate with you.
But now it did. There was something ironic about the sequence of events — it was as though some entity was playing a cruel joke, the absurdity of everything weighing down on you, heavy and brooding.
Anguished sobs slip out uncontrollably, your body trembling as they wracked your body, coherence in thoughts now completely lost. A frown manages its way onto his face, and even in rest, he places his forehead against your back — an action he’s done countless times whenever you were upset. “It’s okay,” He’d say. “I’m always here for you, supporting you, always behind your back.”
You slide your hand towards the dagger at your thigh, tracing the outline of the sheathed dagger, the meaning behind it looming over you like a threat. What was once a source of comfort now turned into one of confusion and pain.
“Tell me, Hajime,” you whisper with glassy eyes fixated on Iwaizumi’s relaxed face, “what should I do?”
