in other news i have learned that robert graves translated the first half-line of the iliad as "Sing, MOUNTAIN GODDESS, sing through me" (sic) which is. an interesting way to render it.
#the poll's selection of ten translators was just to try to hit the most common recent ones so no graves there#its literally just θεα. HOW is he getting mountains from that#mine#iliadblogging#he also alternates between poetry and prose and apparently regards it as comic???#im actually very intrigued now
