Oh those "together again" shirts are going to be one hell of a haunted collectors item one day

#like can you fucking imagine?#imagine being a teenager 50 years from now#and seeing a picture of one of these shirts#or seeing it in a museum#and knowing what happened after#its like the physical manifestation of our current purposeful ignorance towards our ongoing tragedy#its like reading a letter where someone brags about getting a 3rd class bed on the Titanic#its like seeing a picture of a family excited about their day trip to mt Saint Helen on may 18. 1980#its a very specific sort of dramatic irony that breaks your heart#as a nation we ahould have known better than this#this shouldnt be happening#and on an individual level many of them have heard of the danger they are just choosing to ignore it#but 50 years from now our anger at their stupidity will have faded#i imagine#and all that will be left is pity and grief#they were just people who were excited to be 'together again'#they were families who wanted to celebrate surviving quarantine#they were people who wanted to celebrate what they believe to be the end of the pandemic#and this is going to kill not only them but people they love#these shirts are going to be a mundane but powerful historical artifact one day#like seeing a picture of the Donnor Party with a sign reading 'Oregon or Bust'#like seeing pictures of the crew of the Challenger before lift off#like pictures of people waving as they board the Hindenburg#unaware of the magnitude of death and tragedy they are walking into#and instead bravely walking forward with blissful ignorance and hope#its like seeing a picture of someone just moments before they are suddenly killed
