VIOLA CHANGELING BY DAYNA MORTIMORE READ IT NOW
a few months ago we would have. well thats not true. the stormlight archive is kind of boring adolins insane for trying to get so many people to read it.
this is more than you asked for but honorable mentions to dreams of the dying by. looks behind me to see how to spell. nicolas lietzau. and even though neither series is finished by us, realm of the elderlings by robin hobb and the last herald mage by mercedes lackey.
anyway viola changeling is really really good, the foreshadowing happens near immediately and its really rewarding to reread + its the shortest on this little list by miles. i dont even know how to describe it objectively its basically about a bunch of freaks. no but uh. as much as found family gets overused and isnt exactly applicable the feeling of bonding with a group of people so fast being willing to die for them even when they annoy you or are cruel or lash out. the duty you owe to your family and friends. vi is autistic.

hmmm ok! Here are some suggestions you might like:
The Magnus Archives is of course a strong recommendation, both from horror pod listeners in general and from myself.
Welcome to Night Vale is another very popular one, but I personally haven't listened to it all the way through. I did enjoy the parts I listened to however! It's a more light-hearted podcast. It's made by the same folks that did Alice Isn't Dead!
Twice-monthly community updates for the small desert town of Night Vale, where every conspiracy theory is true. Turn on your radio and hide. Never listened before? It's an ongoing radio show.
In a similar vein to WtNV is Hello from the Hallowoods. It's a queer, horror, found family, grief and hope and healing show that made me feel some feelings for sure.
A nonbinary frankenstein piecing together their identity, a trans ghost dealing with his occultist father, and an invisible man finding love at first sight are par for the course in the Hallowoods. In its darker moments, the show can explore themes like religious trauma, isolation and grief, and is often bittersweet rather than shocking. That's not to say there aren't moments of horror ranging from folk to cosmic. For the discretionary listener, you can find content warnings at the end of the episode description on your podcatchers, or at the start of each episode transcript.
The White Vault:
Explore the far reaches of the world’s horrors. Follow the collected records of a repair team sent to a remote arctic outpost and unravel what lies waiting in the ice below. The White Vault is a horror fiction audio drama podcast that features languages and voices from around the globe. It often showcases the found footage format, accurate depictions of modern archaeology, and isolation horror, brought to life by a full cast and detailed soundscape.
I love the White Vault, though I do admit that the first two seasons are the strongest. I would definitely call this more serious horror than HftH or WtNV.
Another more serious horror but one that feels like comfort and familiarity to me personally is Old Gods of Appalachia. This is more of a folksy horror, where there are things older and more unknowable in the darkness of the woods than anyone realizes, and folk magic and fae rules apply. This pod is presented as an anthology but there is a storyline tying it all together.
Welcome, family... Old Gods of Appalachia is an eldritch horror fiction podcast set in an Alternate Appalachia, a world where these mountains were never meant to be inhabited. This world feels eerily similar to the hills and hollers we’ve grown up with, but there are some tell-tale differences. Names of towns and counties may be altered. Historical events slide forward or backward in time. And then, of course, there are the monsters...
On the Very Serious side of horror I'd like to recommend I Am In Eskew --:
I Am In Eskew is a single narrator horror fantasy audio drama. Eskew is a city of steep and winding streets, where the rain seemingly never stops and the buildings change at will. David, the narrator, is from our world, but has found himself trapped in this living, murderous city, unable to find his way home. With escape impossible, David documents his bizarre, often mind-bending experiences in a series of endless recording, hoping that someone – anyone – will hear them. In this twisted city, nothing is what it seems, and the strange population that David meets there – the journalist, obsessed with the letters she receives, the architect who won’t talk about the building they designed, the mysterious woman intent on burning Eskew to the ground – know more than they let on.
-- and Malevolent:
Do not fear the dark, fear what darkness brings... Malevolent follows Arkham Investigator Arthur Lester as he unravels the mysterious circumstances that have befallen him. Malevolent is an Audio Drama which heavily features the horrors of Lovecraft. The series, available publicly, is an edited version of the Patreon exclusive show. Each episode is the same content as our Patreon show only comprised of 5 of the 10-15 minute narrative-driven Chapters that are released weekly save one major difference; in our Patreon show - YOU make the choices. The show uses die rolls and fourth wall breaking sound effects in order to give the listener a sense of presence within the story.
I have many more recommendations to give for sure but I dont want to overwhelm you at all! But if none of these work for you I always have a few more pods I can recommend!
uhhh guys should i start listening to other fictional horror podcasts...... idk im still stuck on chnt but ive seen some cool art for some of them
like tell me which one and which ever one i see the most ill start listening to
#pod rec#I didnt add Hi Nay because I havent listened to it yet but a lot of folks who's opinions on pods I trust have said it's very good!
