i think when ppl talk about sloth:if they generally consider it a happy route (ignoring how it ends) but i feel like theres a piece of that puzzle missing. while subaru and rem are happy in their lives together, theyre still ultimtatly both settling. rem is not subaru's first choice, she knows that, he knows that, but he settles for a girl he thinks he could love and abandons the one he does, because it was all too much. and by doing this, subaru is also not the person rem fell in love with anymore. in the canon route, she says it explicitly, if she ran away with him she'd be abandoning the subaru that she loves. ultimately, he's a shell of himself that she settles for because its the only version she can get... but he wasnt her first choice either. sloth:if is literally the settling down in a second-choice marriage route. because that was the easier (more slothful) option
