i always cant help but wonder with the people who think theres too many sonic characters where do they draw the line between characters who are allowed to exist and characters who arent allowed to exist. like the only characters that were in the first game were sonic and eggman. every other character no matter how important or popular was The New Character at some point. so when exactly did making new characters stop being acceptable in these peoples minds which character was the final straw. or is it less about the games actually reaching a point where they had too many recurring characters and more about just hating big or cream or the chaotix or whoever else in particular

#also people always act like they suddenly started introducing new characters all the time in the 2000s #they were doing that in the 90s too....... you just close your eyes and pretend you dont see it ..#or you straight up forgot some of those games/characters existed #and admittedly there are more characters that have been introduced in the modern era than there were in the classic era #but i feel like a big part of the reason for that is because the modern era has just been much longer than the classic era was #not because the classic era wasnt frequently introducing new characters #also ive said it before i will say it again #yeah there are a lot of sonic characters. because most sonic games introduce at least one or two new characters and that adds up #but personally i dont think that the typical recurring cast is actually all that big or difficult to understand #its like 20 characters max and most of them dont have a bunch of lore and the few who do you dont really Have to know it #to be able to pick up something with them in it and enjoy it #and with the one off characters you dont have to know who they are in advance if they only appear once #idk #also feels worth mentioning that past like. 2006. most new characters who are introduced just show up once and then disappear #they arent becoming recurring characters #its honestly shocking that theyre seemingly letting sage be a recurring character
