One quick thing about academic information that I often see confusion about.

Its different to obtain academic info from published research papers than it is from books. At first glance books might seem like the more reliable source, as that's where we're used to get our information from in school. However, when it comes to academic theory, papers have to be accepted by a committee and peer reviewed before publishing. Anyone with connections can publish a book.

This is how politicans or people like Jordan Peterson get away with publishing bigoted information like its "academic theory" it isn't. They just sell well and they have connections. This all seems obvious, but I've seen a lot of confusion when it comes to reliable sources of academic theory

#not saying the process of publishing research papers is without bigotry #its definitely a very flawed process and can also lead to misinformation #its just flawed for completely seperate reasons and at the very least there's some safety net and more transparency #a book author can just say they researched something and you should take their word for it #at least in papers the methods need to be replicable and the samples publicly available
