#its already traumatizing enough without me mentally checking out because my eyes arent interested

Haven't really seen anyone mention this yet, so I just wanna say that I really, really hope the artstyle change that we've seen from the Season 2 trailer is contained within the Hidden Inventory arc.
I understand that cgi is faster and that Mappa's gonna keep taking on new projects as soon as they can get their hands on them despite all the reasons that's a bad idea, but if Season 2 really is going to get into Shibuya, (which it undoubtedly will) I don't see the change in artstyle doing it any service.
While Season 1 didn't have the same style as the chapters of the manga that it was adapting --and especially so for the movie-- that was completely fine because it more closely resembled Gege's own style later within the series. The thick(er), sketchy black outlines, the highlights, and saturation contrast within the pallette of the show fit the tone and content of the manga perfectly. It felt gritty, which is great because the material itself and Gege's art are gritty.
But from what we've seen from the trailer, Season 2 is not that. It's polished and desaturated similar to how Chainsaw Man was -- something that I didn't fully like there, either, despite liking the adaptation as a whole-- and I don't want to see that past the point where Gojo wakes up in the present after his dream.
Don't get me wrong, the trailer is stunning. The animation looks great. But I think it's best utilized where it adds a contrast between past and present. If it's used to distinguish Gojo's memories from the rest of the season, then I have no complaints. But if it travels forward into Shibuya --which is the darkest and grittiest Jujutsu Kaisen has gotten to date-- I think that it would take a lot of the weight away from what's happening. And that's the exact opposite of what Shibuya needs.
Sidenote: Does the flat, weightless look of cgi animation in anime make anyone else check out mentally from what's happening on the screen? It's like my brain gets bored of the lack of detail/contrast and decides to take a nap.
#is the change actually super noticeable or do i have adhd#cause some shots are familiar in style while others are almost jarring in difference#there's a level of detail missing that makes it feel flatter to me#and i DO NOT want to witness Shibuya like that#its already traumatizing enough without me mentally checking out because my eyes arent interested#jujutsu kaisen#jjk season 2#thoughts#jujutsu kaisen season 2
