Sneak Peek Sunday (on Monday)

Today, I offer you a sneak peak at a possible upcoming WIP, tentatively titled The Owl Sings at Night (because I just adore those vibey giallo film titles like The Bird with Crystal Plumage, A Lizard in a Woman's Skin, Don't Torture a Duckling, Four Flies on Grey Velvet, etc.).

Basically, I started toying with the idea of a strixstarion spy/assassin thriller story while binge watching Slow Horses (ugh, so good), and it's an idea that's kinda been growing on me. I'm still not totally committed to writing it, though; mostly because spinning a whole web of plot intrigue that is both coherent and surprising sounds hard. But I do already have a few fun assassination ideas, a piece of brutal Strix lore that I came up with a while ago and would like to put somewhere, and an idea for something Astarion could do that I think would be hilarious, so... we'll see.

Oh, and since I do already have this modern AU with kind of an erotic thriller vibe going, in which the characters say very little about their histories and do a lot of sneaking around...

Jaheira takes a long swig of beer before sitting back in her chair, arms folded across her chest. “This had better be good, Owlet. You really have no business coming to my home like that.” Keeping her voice low, Strix says simply, “There’s a body in my bathtub.” The other woman looks back at her with a skeptical smirk, raising her brow. “That sounds like a you problem.” But Strix remains undeterred. “I want to know why.” “Why?” echoes Jaheira, bemused; her gaze, shrewd as ever. “I think that is a question for you, or perhaps a psychiatrist. How should I know why there is a body in your bathtub?” “Because you’re the spymaster.” “And you are the one who killed this person, or so I assume. So…” Jaheira pauses, picking up her glass. “Nostalgia? Feelings of impotence? You tell me.” She drinks, while Strix rolls her eyes. “He broke into my house, Jaheira.” “And there you have it!” Jaheira replies, setting her pint back down on the table. “Burglary! Was he armed?” “Yes, but—” Jaheira doesn’t wait for her to finish. “And last I checked, killing an armed home invader is legal self defense. Why you come to me with this, instead of calling the Flaming Fist? I don’t know.” She begins to stand up. “This has nothing to do with—” But Strix interrupts, hissing, “You know perfectly well why I couldn’t go to the Fist! And it wasn’t a burglary—not a normal one, anyway. He was copying my hard drive.” Jaheira freezes. Then, while she settles back into her seat, Strix leans in closer, dropping her voice to a whisper. “I need to know if this has something to do with Enver Gortash.” Jaheira’s eyes narrow. “Impossible.” “Why impossible?” “No one else knows about that,” Jaheira says flatly. “Not even Harpers.” “And how are you so sure?” Strix presses on, unflinching in the spymaster’s gaze. But Jaheira insists, “I am sure.” She takes another sip. “And how are you so sure this is not to do with that pretty judge you so imprudently insist on screwing, hmm?” Strix opens her mouth, then shuts it. She isn’t surprised, exactly—it was tacitly understood that Jaheira would continue to keep an eye on her, given the highly sensitive nature of their engagement. Still… A wry, acerbic smile finds its way to the older woman's lips. “Perhaps not the secret you seem to think it is, Owlet. And you really expect people to believe he met you at that bourgeoisie gym?”

What an incredibly frustrating piece of fiction this is shaping up to be.

Where do I even start.

OK, on the one hand, the needlessly esoteric and vibey storytelling is kind of a plus. That's not a thing many anime do anymore and I kind of miss it as someone who was first exposed to the medium in part by very high-concept sci-fi anime. Also the action is great; any time a fight happened I was at least consistently having a good time, the choreography and animation are really good and I absolutely love the combat theme and find it weird how rarely they use it. In general I love how the show looks and it will remain watching for its visuals alone even if nothing else comes together.

Which is good, because everything else is a huge mess at this point. Add it to the list of anime I regret giving the benefit of a doubt.

Everything Metallic Rouge does or tries to do is held back by the fact that Rouge Redstar herself has the morality of a gradeschooler. In the early episodes, this was kind of cute and it seemed like the show would be in large part about her shedding that idealism to become....I don't know, pick one; a hero to the Neans? Some kind of cosmic avenger bound to neither side in this conflict? At least someone who has SOME kind of convictions beyond "I hate fighting!" ?

Code Eve is here revealed to be the work of Rouge's mom(?), a biophysicist, and assistant to her surrogate father, named Dr. Eva Kristella. She is the one who installed the Asimov Code in Neans in the first place, which means that in this universe, all of the oppression that the already-wonky analogue for minorities face was the work of a single person. If you disregard any stab at symbolism here, this is a fine plot twist *in a vacuum*, but when put back in the context of the show it completely defangs anything Metallic Rouge has done or seemed like it wanted to do with this material. Systemic oppression happened because Dr. Kristella did an oopsie and ended up regretting it. That regret was what caused her to make Code Eve, which can somehow disable the Asimov Code, but she didn't activate it herself (maybe she couldn't? This isn't elaborated upon) and instead planted it within the "soul" of Rouge and the other Immortals.

It's kind of impressive how thoroughly that strips out any applicability. There is no way to read anything as subtext anymore, because this is purely a genre thing and has no connection to anything real. Any bite this series might've had is gone.

But OK, fine, let's ignore that and just take it as a weird sci fi thing. Surely at least Rouge recognizes that the Neans are being oppressed to shit is a bad thing and joins the resistance, right? Especially now that Naomi has betrayed her (a plot twist that comes out of fucking nowhere btw) and revealed her true colors? Nope! A decent chunk of episode 8 is taken up by mealy-mouthed moralizing more or less dismissing the Neans' situation because, well, The Immortals Are Violent, so it's impossible to say if they're justified or not. Gene, Rouge's brother, says something to the effect of this not being "the right time" to liberate the Neans and that the inevitable violence of a revolution would only make things worse for them. I'm not crazy for reading this as complete fucking lib shit (a term I don't use lightly), am I? The show seems dead-set on playing Rouge's naivete as something admirable instead of something deeply offputting and inappropriate to the situations she finds herself in.

Like, I'm being A LITTLE uncharitable but honestly not particularly so? I'm mostly just confused, like, what even is the point of any of this? A thing I suppose I had conveniently forgotten about some of those sci-fi shows I mentioned in the opening paragraph is that they're occasionally not actually about much. Sure, the GOOD ones are, but there are plenty that have been mostly forgotten because they don't use the genre to do anything or say anything of note. Metallic Rouge's mix of aesthetics is still interesting---all of the Immortals look really cool, for example---but I would be VERY surprised at this point if the series pulled anything coherent together in its last four episodes.

Then again, who knows, I thought I had this show figured out once before and then episode 5 happened, so honestly who can say. Maybe it WILL find some way to justify its milquetoast politics and Toynbee Tiles-ass worldbuilding in a way that's actually coherent and interesting. I really doubt it, though.

The worst part is that through all of this I STILL don't actually think the show is outright bad. It has enough going for it that I'm going to watch the remaining third of the series and I will probably not completely hate those 2ish hours of remaining story, but it has JUST enough going on that the ways in which its deficient are hugely frustrating instead of being the kind of minor flaw that it's easy to brush off.

At this point my favorite character is probably Cyan, who shows up barely-foreshadowed in these episodes to try to kill Rouge for no obvious reason, but she has a fun design and a clear motive, so that makes her easy to root for, in my book.

Batfam! On the majority. I've written quite a few BBC Merlin ones as well, and there's a Gravity Falls one roaming around somewhere. I'm hoping to write for the Ninjago fandom too and I already have a Danny Phantom wip too

My School’s Local Mafia Boss (expected, i'm still so proud of this one) Sometimes You Have To Find Your Own Genes (also expected, because of the multiple chapters thing, it appears more and more and its also one of my very first ones on here!) Yeah!! I used to reply to every single one, but as time went on, I got more burnt out and more and more busy cuz school became more and more harder. So I'm taking A While to get to comments cuz I don't have the energy and time, and though I read and love and snuggle the short comments too, I don't answer them nowadays unless I have the energy to at the time

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I write so many sweet endings, I'm not entirely sure. In my opinion, true happy endings in stories are the result of what has gone down in the plot. So based on the plot and the results it has given in the end, I'd say it's either Loving In And Against A Storm or Let Them Be Family. Because the characters really deserved the ending.

Nope.

Depends on the crossover. My very very first fic (not on ao3, on wattpad ugh) was a crossover between DC and Marvel lol. I haven't written any crossovers right now, but I have a Danny PhantomxDC one where Danny meets Tim while he's searching for Bruce.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yeah, actually. It was my wattpad one. Idrc about that, but I haven't found any of my ao3 ones stolen (thank God), and if I do, I'm going to be tearing someone apart with my teeth.

No, I'm afraid. I've had people leave comments in other languages on my fics, so I suppose there are people who have been translating the page to read it which makes me very honored ^^ and it makes me want to translate a fic myself too if not for the fact that I'm bullshit at my other languages just as I am with English lol

Vibey and I also have a batfam DEH AU collecting dust in our foldes. I also employed Tristi's help and @tireddruid in a 60 fucking chapters of a Merlin fic which isn't going to be written in a LONG ASS WHILE. @mispeltnostalgia is supposed to be looking at a de-aged Tim fic with me, but her role has become a beta/alpha reader role and I'm attending to other wips rn.

So yeah! I know for some people writing together isn't their cup of tea, and that's understandable lmao. I personally I love writing fics with people. It's... it's kind of a love language for me? It's much fun seeing how our writing styles meld together but are also distinct enough that you can still spot it. I also love the clash that explodes into a google doc with pages and pages of us ranting about ideas and plots in different colors texts. It's so cool.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

Ahhh. Idk tbh. Any WIPs i have, I am hell-bent on finishing them until I have. And if I can't I just toss them in the scrap pile and never look at again. So idk if I have a wip I want to finish but won't.

Although the 60 fucking chapters of Merlin looks very appealing to abandon. But no. I've done too much work on it to just forget about it, unfortunately. I've worked too hard.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Right now, I'm feeling very down and flat and not finding any strengths at all 😭

It's been months since I've written an actual fic cuz I went on a break recently and I'm like... how do i- how do I write. how do I. words? where words?

In all seriousness though, I believe I can come up with Plots. I'm a mystery fan, so any fics I write, I make sure to have character motivations, purpose, plot, drive, foreshadowing, characterization, reasoning, etc. in it. Even in a oneshot. Even if all the literary devices are used in a shallow way, I use them. I like my stories having a purpose or a lesson to them. I can't write something which doesn't have one or both. I've also been called out /pos on my attention to detail. Sure, yes, some things do slip by. I am human after all. But yeah, on the most part, I like tightening all loose threads ^^

And I think dialogue's one as well. Because when I write, I actually picture everything I type in my head. So my writing is pure grains of imagination on paper :D, it's the only way I know how to write tbh. Which is why I struggle so much with reading or writing analytical stuff which sucks bc, school.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

EVERYTHING 😭

Well, right now anyway. I'm still recovering from burnout and mental breakdowns.

But there are weaknesses in my strengths. My dialogue can get lost sometimes and soon you'll be staring at just half a page of just dialogue. Or sometimes, I read back and realize that the dialogue I've written has no context and only makes sense to me.

I lack description in my settings and appearances. I struggle to describe things which are plainly obvious but aren't as obvious to the reader. Because of the whole imagination thing, the things that need description are all in the background, so when I write, I mostly assume that the backgrounds have already been established, so readers are left with faceless feelings most of the time. I'm practicing though! I'm practicing and I think I'm getting better at it!

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

I love adding representation of my culture and identity everywhere I go. My fics have Muslim characters and poc characters who speak Arabic, mostly. I'm also working on adding bits of Mandarin (thanks to lovely @birdybat who's helping me with that) in my current wip and hopefully in future wips as well. I know I've added Urdu and Hindi to previous fics which are not on ao3. But yeah! I love adding bits of cultural representation everywhere!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Marvel and DC lol. The crossover.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHY TF WOULD YOU ASK ME TO CHOOSE BETWEEN MY BABIES?

The most work I've put into a fic is Let Me Die, Let Me Drown, Lay My Bones In The Ground. I put tons and tons of work in it and reread after reread after rereads. I had Sprite, Tristi and Joan look over some parts and reread it too so it would be perfect. Every little detail is present in it and as you read for a second or even third time, you'll find more and more hidden details and symbolism present in it, like-

Literally. There are so many tiny details which all lead up to the final conclusion at the end and it all connects with the overarching theme and the purpose and the moral and lesson and comes together for the conclusion and I just-

I put a lot of work into it. only to get a couple hate comments on it Soooo, yeah :)

Good morning/afternoon/some time of the day or night from across the pond! I'm making the most of this jet lag with some Peanut Butter m&m's and a blog on our time at yesterday's Ubisoft Forward event! It was a morning accompanied by popcorn that showcased their (very) impressive lineup for this year and beyond!

JUST DANCE 2024

The event got underway with one the most popular music game franchises (if not THE most popular) of all time, back for 2024 with 40 new tracks and a vibey trailer that somehow transitioned from screen to live dancers on stage! I'd be lying if I said Just Dance was personally my thing but its player numbers around the globe speaks for itself! Fans will be pleased to know that "Flowers" by Miley Cyrus has made the cut, as well as all-time banger "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" by Whitney Houston!

THE CREW MOTORFEST

PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE LOST CROWN

No, we didn't get any news on the Sands of Time Remake but after its announcement at Summer Game Fest last week, we did get to see more on this epic side-scrolling, sword slashing, time-dashing new adventure in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown! Play as Sargon and evolve from sword-wielding prodigy to extraordinary legend as you master acrobatic combat and unlock new Time Powers and unique super abilities.

Having seen this earlier in the year on a confidential presentation, its improvements since then are astounding. This metroidvania type game has found huge popularity in recent years with many titles adopting the style! But nevertheless it stands out from a crowd and looks to be an absolute MUST play for me!

SKULL AND BONES

We're all familiar with this right me hearties? Of course. It's been due to set sail for a number of years but has regularly been met with choppy waters and uncertain tides...

Yesterday didn't deliver too much on when we can actually expect Skull and Bones to get those anchors away, but we were treated to this new trailer accompanied by a live performance from the band 'Home Free' as they sang their tune from the game!

STAR WARS OUTLAWS

Having seen the trailer a couple of days ago for the long awaited open world Star Wars game that was originally teased in 2021, we've already been feeling pretty blessed... But seeing a 10 minute gameplay walk-through yesterday has excited all of us scummy, villainous gamers to no end!

Seeing Kay Vess and the adorable Nix in heist action reminded us of the loving relationship between Cal and BD-1, and that is NEVER a bad thing. From the heat of blaster-fire battle to the foot-down freedom of a speeder chase, this footage shows that 2024 will be a great time to be an Outlaw!

No official launch date has been confirmed and so there's no pre-orders just yet! But sit tight, watch the gameplay again and prepare to revel in what will be the first and incredibly ambitious open world Star Wars game to date!

ASSASSIN'S CREED MIRAGE

We're finishing up here with the extended gameplay section we saw from Assassin's Creed Mirage, and its back-to-basics stealth-centric footage that fans in the presentation were cheering for with joy and rapture!

Our assassin Basim is light on his feet and making even lighter work of those that stand in his way... The gameplay showed that mixing stealth with creativity really does deliver supreme results! Smoke bombs, blow-darts, hidden blades, it's all in a day's work for this agile and acrobatic executioner!

Ninth-century Baghdad has never looked better and we can't wait to take our place with an ancient organization known as the Hidden Ones...

Review: Nona the Ninth

read from 11 June to 18 June

Okay, so first, damn me for reading an unfinished series. Alecto the Ninth will (hopefully) come out this October and I can barely wait for that.

Second: what the actual hell was that fever dream of a book? Did I love Nona? Of course. Did I know what was going on 99% of the time? No. Did I still enjoy this book? Absolutely!

Basic facts

Title: Nona the Ninth (#3 of the Locked Tomb series)

Synopsis: Her city is under siege. The zombies are coming back. And all Nona wants is a birthday party. In many ways, Nona is like other people. She lives with her family, has a job at her local school, and loves walks on the beach and meeting new dogs. But Nona's not like other people. Six months ago she woke up in a stranger's body, and she's afraid she might have to give it back. The whole city is falling to pieces. A monstrous blue sphere hangs on the horizon, ready to tear the planet apart. Blood of Eden forces have surrounded the last Cohort facility and wait for the Emperor Undying to come calling. Their leaders want Nona to be the weapon that will save them from the Nine Houses. Nona would prefer to live an ordinary life with the people she loves, with Pyrrha and Camilla and Palamedes, but she also knows that nothing lasts forever. And each night, Nona dreams of a woman with a skull-painted face...

Review / Rambling (maybe kinda spoilery)

After the fever dream that was Harrow the Ninth, I really did not know what to expect - I certainly did not expect Nona.

In the beginning, I was so confused, who Nona actually was and what was happening. But the worldbuilding and setting were as intriguing as in GtN and HtN - I especially loved the spin of the zombie trope as well as the urban setting. I am not well versed in Science Fiction so I cannot comment on whether the setting was derivative but it certainly was fun to read. Also, necromancers in space. And Noodle. 5 stars for worldbuilding/setting.

The plot was more clearcut than in HtN and it actually made sense. I loved the headings of the parts (5 days until the Tomb opens etc.) because it set up the ending so well. Tamsyn Muir is definitely a fan of "spoiling" the ending but who am I to complain (I am a sucker for this plot structure). Also NtN had one of my favourite tropes of all time: domestic living in a SFF-world/city. I cannot get enough of that trope! I did not particularly like the John-focused chapters - it gave some context to the whole story but the whole climate crisis felt a little too real haha. 4 stars for the plot.

As for characters, I loved, loved, loved Nona. You usually do not have a "child" protagonist in SFF, so it was really refreshing looking through the eyes of one. I loved how she told the story and how she did not really have a clue what was going on 99% of the time (very relatable hehe). I also adore Camilla and Palamedes, so I was happy to see more of them, although not together of course. I liked the family dynamic between Nona, Camilla/Palamedes and Pyrrha. As I have already said, I am a big fan of domestic living in SFF-cities, so that ties in perfectly. Also - Gideon is back (kind of, maybe, idk) and she is as funny as ever (also a bit creepy). Only downside of the book regarding characters: often, I had no idea who these people were because the names were so confusing. Also, Harrow was not there for the most part. 4 stars for characters.

I have seen some people critiquing Tamsyn Muir for not having a consistent tone throughout the series. I actually really loved world. In my opinion, there were a lot of cringey jokes in the first book and although I like Gideon, I am glad that we see different people as narrators. I loved the second book for its mysterious "vibey" writing style. I loved the third book for the child-like writing. The new perspective really helped me with immersing myself more in the book. 4 stars for writing style.

The overall vibes of the book were definitely there and I really enjoyed reading the book. +1 star for overall vibes.

first of all, go read basically everything by Cypherr, the other 'big' mcyt agere writer in this fandom if you haven't already. His stuff is all really cool and many of his stories directly inspired some of my fics (their 'four's a family' inspired 'the feeling of family', etc etc). Now, I'll go through my bookmarks to find you some oneshots and fics I like

1. Stubborn Baby by Secretblog1212. It's a regressor!ranboo (my favorite, lots of these will be w/him included. and also lots of tommy/sbi stuff.) and cg!tubbo fic. Secretblog1212 is also a really good writer, they used to write Ethan Nestor agere stuff and I was really excited when we started talking, I'd recommend scrolling through everything they have since I love a lot of their fics, including their older Ethan Nestor stuff if you're interested.

2. a well of gentleness by anonymous. there are so many good agere fics (*cough* one hand to keep you warm *cough*) made by people who'd rather not reveal who they are- it's crazy. This is a really vibey SBI fic

3. trust by anonymous. again w/the anonymous authors, I love this cg!techno and little!tommy fic. <3

4. hearth by anonymous. little!tommy who doesn't *know* that he's been regressing until a very gentle cg!wilbur brings it up

He always has munchies. Will be hunched over in the kitchen.

He’s noticeably calmer. This is the most relaxed you’ll ever see him.

Hates being groggy the morning after. So he only really smokes when he can sleep in the next day. He had only been smoking since he met you. So it’s still a taboo.

Midoriya is the type to reveal his deepest feelings high and completely on accident. He loves you and his friends so much.

He is so panicked when people green out. If you were to throw up he would genuinely pass out.

Katsuki Bakugou -

Also a snacker. Him and Midoriya are fully able to empty a pantry.

Relatively shitty high. He is calmer but still on edge just enough that it’s not all that fun. Weed is like a last resort for him.

Zones out, will stare at the wall, and will scare the shit out of people.

Only smokes alone or with you, because he knows he can get unpredictable when he smokes.

Bakugou has a low tolerance and often times has coughing fits.

Bakugou is of course worried but he’s bakugou so. He will nag at you for greening out. Of course while giving you water and the care you need but he would still do it.

Shoto Todoroki -

He didn’t start smoking until he met you and he honestly didn’t think he would like it. Being raised in a very anti-drug household he experienced it to not be as good as it was.

Super giggly when he’s high. The type to say ‘apple’ then sit back and laugh for like 5 minutes.

He isn’t one to go out of his way to get food but if you offer it to him, he will eat it all.

Todoroki ends up enjoying the fuzzy feeling a lot. So he smokes at least every weekend.

When he’s high with you, its a shit storm of laughter. You two bounce off of each others jokes until you can’t breathe.

You know how Edward reacts to Bella being pregnant, that’s what todoroki is like when you green out. He is zoned out and incredibly still.

Ochako Uraraka -

Honestly was scared of ouid, she decided to try it when she saw you and her friends having fun.

The first time she smokes she gets paranoid and starts to freak out.

The times after that you supervise her so she doesn’t FUCKING DIE

When she finally gets comfortable, she mainly ends up being sleepy. Snacks and then sleeps.

Definitely giggling to herself in a corner wondering what the fuck is going on.

Had a really bad experience but got comfy and now smokes every other weekend.

She isn’t panicked but she wouldn’t be sure what to do when someone greens out. She would try to help but it wouldn’t do much.

he’s JUST like a mom stoner. He is always loaded with snacks and drinks. He also does not judge you when you cough.

He has planned tolerance breaks and will get most of the group to do it with him. He is so worried when he finds out you or denki skipped one. The smoke seshes after are always the best though.

He always comes PREPARED for cuddles. His bed is unbelievably comfy and he’ll literally hold anyone who wants it.

He just loves the feeling of being high and his friends make it special.

He also low key gets on horny high spurts. Like a couple of days where it’s pure horndog then he’s good for like the rest of the week.

He is SO worried when people green out. Will hold your hair back and like force you to consume water.

Obviously he has faults and will smoke A LOT in between tolerance breaks. Is high at any chance he has UNLESS on a tolerance break.

BNHA College AU - Dabi

Major: Graphic Design

Minor: Business

Sports: Nope

Clubs: He’s not necessarily in the Shogi club, but he competes in tournaments just because he’s so good at it

Dabi has two reasons for going to college: to prove to everyone, mainly his dad, that he can be successful despite what they say, and to force his dad to spend a lot of money

He hangs out with all the labeled creepy people (save for Keigo, but even then he won’t hang out with him in public cause Keigo’s pretty popular), cause of his scars and resting bitch face people are generally too scared to talk to him so he stayed with the people who didn’t judge him for that

He got his scars in an accident when he was young, the house had gotten set on fire and he got trapped inside after saving his little brother Shouto, who luckily got out with only a scar on his face

Overall dabi was lucky to have survived the ordeal at all, having inhaled so much smoke and being so burnt, but by some miracle he turned out fine, and his scars, other than being a permanent dark red and the skin being rough, weren’t too bad (basically he has the scars in the same general areas but they look more like how real burn scars would – there’s no staples anymore either)

He also changed his name as soon as he was old enough, wanting to create his own identity rather than the one his dad had crafted for him

Dabi works at a tattoo shop near campus, he’s always been pretty good at art and loves tattoos, so he decided he might as well get a job doing something he actually likes. He’s given himself a few tattoos too, and all of his piercings

Him being a graphic design major stems from his love of drawing, but him choosing graphic design rather than fine art or just drawing was due to him wanting to try a new medium, and then enjoying it

Then his business minor is so that he can open is own tattoo shop - he feels that owning his own shop and being successful in it is the best way to spite his dad, so he is all for it

He also lives off campus in his own apartment, he didn’t feel like bothering with getting a roommate 

You meet him when you go into the shop to get a tattoo, you just had the sudden urge to get a tattoo so you walked in there and asked if there was any space for you, and turned out Dabi was free

You told him the basic design that you wanted, but also told him that he was free to add whatever he wanted which he greatly enjoyed, and he went to work

Normally dabi would kinda just do the work and move on, maybe make a few comments here and there if he felt like it, he wasn’t much of a talker anyways

But hey, you were cute, so he couldn’t help flirt a bit – and you didn’t seem creeped out by him like a lot of people tended to be, so he took that as a sign that you didn’t mind it

And you definitely did not mind it – you weren’t expecting the person tattooing you to be so hot, but it was for sure a welcome surprise. And you’d be lying if you said the smirk he flashed at you occasionally didn’t give you butterflies

After the tattoo was finished, it didn’t take that long since you had gotten a fairly small one, you were doing the stuff for payment and he went, “ya know, if you go on a date with me, maybe I’ll give you a discount on the next one”

Yes he was technically bribing you for a date, but again, you were cute and didn’t give him a weird look when he started flirting, even flirting back a couple times – so he was just tryna shoot his shot

“I’d like that. Even without the discount, though that would be a nice bonus.”

So you give him your number and give him a little wave before running out of the shop, already wondering where he was going to take you

Now, Dabi never wants to come across as desperate, and in all honesty he really isn’t since he’s not even looking for anything serious, so he decided to wait a few days before even texting you – making you worry that he had decided he didn’t wanna go out with you anymore

It wouldn’t be the end of the world if he didn’t, it’s not like you’d been crushing on him for months or anything dramatic, you’d met the guy once – but he was pretty, and fun to talk to, so you were hoping you’d at least be able to see where it went

Luckily though, late at night a few days after you had met him, you finally get a text, reading “hey its dabi, the guy who tattooed you. Still interested in that date?’

You almost ended up texting him right away, ready to get on with it. But nah, he waited 3 days, you can at least wait an hour or two – thank god you didn’t have your read receipts on

Eventually you got to it, responding ‘Hey – yeah I’m up to it. What’d you have in mind?’

Finally deciding he would save the both of you the time, he responded quickly, ‘nothing fancy, I’ll surprise you though.’

You said that was fine, and that was it for the night. You were just gonna wait until he told you when, and didn’t worry about it too much

But then that night, at around 7pm, you got another text: ‘you busy rn?’

You weren’t, so you said so, and he said ‘can you meet me back at the shop in like 30 min? We’re going out tonight.”

Bold of this man to not only assume you could make it in 30 minutes but to just spring your first date upon you like that – but you weren’t going to complain about it, other than the fact that if you wanted to get decently ready you’d have to sprint over there (you were lucky that the shop was close to campus – and that he probably assumed you went to the college here since you never told him)

But you threw on the first clothes you deemed acceptable and got any other small touch ups finished in the next 20 minutes before grabbing your phone, keys, and wallet and booking it towards the tattoo shop – only stopping to look at your reflection in a car window once you were up the street to make sure you still looked decent

Why were you putting in so much effort for the hot emo dude? You’d never know. But you wouldn’t be disappointed either.

You soon walked into the shop and were almost immediately greeted by Dabi. He was wearing ripped black jeans and an oversized black hoodie with black converse, simple but nice

“So what are we doing exactly?”

He didn’t say, just walked out of the shop, so you followed him back into the parking lot where he directed you to an expensive looking matte black car – which side note, he was very proud of. He bought it with his own money (I don’t know car breeds, forgive me for not specifying what type of car it is)

The car ride was pretty vibey – he has awesome music taste but he kept it just high enough so that you could hear it but low enough so that the two of you could talk, he generally doesn’t like small talk but you were pretty interesting so he let the conversation go wherever you led

Eventually you arrived at a big park with a lake and a bunch of tall trees, and you got out of the car while Dabi went to grab a backpack from the trunk – then he led you over to a nice little clearing right next to the lake and pulled out a blanket from his backpack and laid it out so you two could sit

“like I said, nothing fancy. We’re just gonna hang out.”

He had a whole bunch of snacks and drinks in his backpack, and you just spent the next couple hours talking about anything and everything – he loved when you asked him about tattooing and stuff, gave him a chance to brag, and he asked you a bunch of probably too personal questions just because he thought it was cute seeing you flustered

In the end, the first date was a success – and it led to many more. Many of which weren’t even classified dates, just more times where he would randomly text you to hang out, and each time you found yourself liking him more and more, and he shockingly felt the same

At the beginning, the best and most dabi could hope for with you was a kind of friends with benefits situation. He didn’t want a real relationship, but he’d be lying if he said he didn’t want to be close with someone

But then you came along, and despite you being very good looking of course, he wasn’t just waiting for the right time to ask if he could fuck you, he just wanted to be around you and actually spend time with you – not just turn you into someone he could fuck when he was bored

Regardless, he’s not very good at getting attached to people, it scares him, so as soon as he realized he caught actual feelings he kinda ghosted you for a bit, worrying you that you did something wrong – he wouldn’t respond to your texts or anything

“Are you okay? Did I do something wrong? Why’d you disappear all the sudden?” Even outside of your crush, you considered him a friend, and you had hoped he did too, so you were worried

“It’s nothing… I’ve just been busy, don’t worry your cute little head about it.”

You rolled your eyes, “Dabi, I’m serious. What’s wrong?”

He sighed deeply, running a hand through his messy hair and staring back at you, “It’s – it’s stupid. I don’t want to talk about it.”

God he hated how concerned you looked, he could tell you cared about him and it weirded him out, but he loved it so much. He couldn’t help himself, as much as he wanted to push you away, he knew that he wanted to keep you around

“Still… if you change your mind, I’m here you-“ you didn’t even get to finish your sentence before his lips were on yours – something you very much weren’t expecting to happen today but you sure as hell weren’t complaining

“That’s what’s wrong. I think I love you.”

You could see that he looked scared, but he wasn’t pulling away, so you wrapped your arms around his neck and pressed a soft kiss on his lips, “Well, if it makes you feel better, I think I love you too.”

There was no formal asking out, just from that day on you were his. It still took some time for him to get used to it, not being familiar with how to act in a relationship, but with your help he got the hang of it

He loves when you watch him draw, he’s dubbed you his muse and therefore you being there helps inspire him

Wants to get matching tattoos with you eventually, and you know that if you want any more tattoos he’s gonna be the one to give you them, he might even let you do a tattoo or two for him

K! So there's one I'm working on with Vibey (@wakkoroni) and it's for the Mafia Files series.

Basically, Tim and Jason go to high school together and Tim has already met the batfam early as a 12-year-old (ik you know this sprite, but its context for the people who dont know XD)

And so Tim gets kidnapped from school, and Jason and Bruce and Dick look for him. Tim, the mini mafia boss, fucks with his kidnappers' heads while waiting for rescue. Meanwhile, Jack and Janet show up and it's a Whole Thing TM. We have yet to finish the first chapter 😅 but we got all the outlines and steps sorted out and are in the process of writing it out and I'm frankly quite excited cuz Vibey has SUCH GOOD AMAZING IDEAS ISTG Y'ALL GIVE MOST OF YOUR CREDIT TO HER SHE'S A QUEEN.

Sure, he might be a little tighter on budget now, but at least he was able to remain his sanity, and that's a win.

The apartment is not that cheap; sharing it makes it easier. And with Seonghwa, a business major in his 3rd year, it was a good catch.

He's nice, friendly, tidy - too tidy if you ask Hongjoong, especially when he is bitching about the coffee mugs in the sink, like, who the hell cares - but he is also very, very pretty, and caring, and that, ladies and gentlemen, isn't a good thing, at least not to his heart because he is - well, in some cases of being near him, and especially when Seonghwa smells good, becomes - the definition of a useless gay.

That's how bad it actually is, but luckily, only Yunho knows that.

For the rest of his friends, the older is just known as "hot".

Which is also very, very true.

"Hey!", Hongjoong shouts, tossing his keys onto the shelf next to the door.

Seonghwa is busy watering the plants. "Ah, hey! How was your scenery project?"

"Good, good!"

"What, this is it?", Wooyoung hisses, taking off his jacket. He pinches the older's waist. "If I called your storyboarding a scenery project you would have behaded me."

"Well you are a brat", Hongjoong whispers back, to which the younger only rolls his eyes, only to add a louder "brought someone with me today. Seonghwa, this is Wooyoung."

"HEEEYYYY", Wooyoung gives him a wave and earns a chuckle. "Nice to finally meet you, you know, Hongjoong always talks about his infamous roommate."

I'm going to kill that kid.

"Ah, really?" Seonghwa shoots him a glance, and he can't read an expression from it before it's already gone. "He talks about his friends too." Hee points at Woo with the water in his hands. "I'm guessing you are the loud one?"

"He is", Hongjoong quickly states before the younger has enough time to answer. "And you're just here to pick some notes up, c'mon. I got things to do."

With that, he pulls him into his room.

"What, you're not even inviting me for dinner?", Wooyoung says fifteen minutes later as he is getting dragged out by his friend.

"Exactly. You're a vaccuum when it comes to food, and I'm broke."

"You're mean, that's what you are-"

"Yeah, yeah, you're gonna survive it."

He somehow managed to get the boy into door-and-floor-space; he knows how long it can take to get him actually past the frame.

"Now go home and study. And use the notes!"

"You know I would be better off if you helped me study!"

"I got my own stuff to do."

"We could study together."

"I will clean my desk now. Go ask San!"

He sighs at the whine the younger lets out.

"Yah, hyung, you're really no fun. You don't even care about me or my grades."

"I literally just gave you all my notes."

"Yeah, but you got a monster brain and I don't understand them-"

A soft giggle makes them both turn around.

Seonghwa is done with the plants - he now seems to be cleaning the dining table, and for that, he's taken off his hoodie.

The tshirt he's wearing is white, a perfect match to his skin. His tan, muscular arms flex lightly at his movements.

"Huh." Wooyoung stares for a moment, tilting his head.

"Hongjoong hyung?"

"Hm?"

"You know the thing...you told me earlier?"

"The thing? I-what thing?"

"That thing."

"Oh. Yeah. Let me guess. You get my point now?"

"Definetely. Yeah."

Hongjoong leans onto Wooyoung's shoulder with one arm.

Four eyes are on Seongwha, who is painfully oblivious, probably not even listening. He's holding a can in his hands.

"Juice, anyone?"

"He's kinda like a mum. You're kinda like a mum, Seonghwa."

"I-what?"

"That's his way of giving somebody nicknames, I think. Either that or he's got both mommy and daddy issues. He told me I sound like a dad-"

He coughs away the pain as the younger smacks his stomach; for a moment, Seonghwa's eyes are on him.

"You know, hyung, I agree with you", Wooyoung says right before he's out the door, getting his revenge. "Your roommate is hot, you were right about that."

Snitch.

Hongjoong, however, did not expect anything less. He deals with it the way he always deals with pretty boys : joking about it until it hurts because he doesn't stand a chance anyway, vibing in the frequency of an awkward wave.

Hakuna matata.

"I know I am - I'm always right!", he shouts after the younger friend although the door is already closed.

Just be shameless, nobody knows you're dying of embarassment until you show it.

And maybe he is a little competitive as well. Maybe.

He doesn't even look at the older; he plays it off with a soft chuckle, focusing his attention back on his desk that, he must admit, looks like a battle field of supplies. Brushes, pencils, notes, papers, folders - a cup of coffee here, a computer mouse there. Sweet sweet college life.

It's quiet around him, nothing unusual, Seonghwa is a calm person after all. If he's honest, Hongjoong is glad to have found a roommate like him. (If only he wasn't so handsome that it's hard, like, really hard, to focus. He can't complain though.)

The weird knot in his chest forces him to go against his anxiety and look up. He meets Seonghwa's eyes immediately.

Again.

"What?", he asks, breathing out a laugh that - he hopes sincerely - doesn't sound nervous.

"He just gave you a compliment, that's Wooyoung for you."

"Mhm", Seonghwa makes.

"Aw, are you getting shy? Don't you know how to handle a compliment?"

A light hint of pink appears on the older's cheeks, which is weird because at the same time, he's furrowing his brows. Hongjoong wishes he didn't enjoy teasing him so much.

(Spoiler alert: not really.)

"What? No-"

He grins.

Cute.

He might be smiling through the pain when it comes to the next comment, but hey - Nobody has to know. (How would they know?)

"Is it because he's pretty? Is he your type?"

That's how you do it. Just drop hints and make him date another dude, to cope with the fact that you might develope an unhealthy crush on your roommate and don't stand a chance.

Hah!

But who would do such a thing, not Hongjoong.

Obviously.

"He's a really great guy", he cheerfully adds, focusing on his organization again. "A little loud, but maybe that's a match. I could totally set you guys up."

He doesn't even know what paper he has in his hands.

"Well, yeah", a deep voice suddenly murmurs in his ear and he nearly jumps.

Seonghwa is standing right in front of him.

"You could do that...but", he inhales softly, grabbing a pastel pink pen from the tornado of chaos Hongjoong calls his work place. It's got a little plastic strawberry on its tip.

"He's not really my type."

And then, almost like a whisper, and a lot closer to his ear, he just says: "You are."

And then he leaves, letting Hongjoong alone in the living room, with the words "I think that's my pen, thanks", and Hongjoong just stares at the wall.

Spring 2021 anime review (first impressions)

I started watching some of the new spring animes coming out and wanted to give my opinion of them so far (I saw someone do this and I wanted to do my version as well). Enjoy!

Don't toy with me, Miss Nagatoro:

This anime is basically just a slice of life but with the two main leads being a nerdy boy and a sadistic girl. Honestly the anime wasn’t what I was expecting considering the controversy around this before it came out. I actually really enjoy the show and while some of the scenes are a little weird overall I think it’s beautifully animated and brings something a little different to the romance anime category. I really recommend this one to people who like romances and slice of life’s but a little warning if teasing and some light bully aspects effect you. (I didn’t think it was too bad but to people who are sensitive to those topics maybe pass on this one)

Mars red:

I LOVE THE ANIMATION ITS SUCH A LIKE COMFORTING STYLE ANIMATION. The first episode was kinda boring to me but THAT OUTRO AND INTRO im so Interested in how the plot is going to pan out but overall it’s such a vibey show like this whole thing feels like a warm Thursday night under the stars and idk how else to explain it. The vampires are cool and I’m glad they are doing something different with the plot instead of using the tired plot points of all shows with vampires in it.

Rating so far: 8/10

Odd taxi: 

This reminds me of a mix between durarara and beastars vibes. I think it’s such a chill anime but with underlying mysteries and stories playing out behind the scenes. I wasn’t really into it at first but the whole show has a very rainy night mood with it and it does the show well. There is so much stuff unexplained and so many little side stories that I can’t wait to see how they get tied it. Plus I like the main character, he literally reminds me of a cranky old grandpa and it’s nice seeing his perspective on things. Also the little bit of humor is really cute.

Rating so far: 7.9/10

Shadows house: 

I’m a big fan of the whole living doll thing in the anime and I love the idea of living shadows. I think it’s very different but really good and the whole theme is great. The show is more slice of life than I thought but I think it’s going to get more horror aspects which I’m excited to see. Overall it’s cute but the dark undertones are so cool and I’m invested. ALSO THE INTRO AND OUTRO SMACKS GOSH ITS SO GOOD ESP THE OUTRO JUST LOOK IT UP PLZ

wow. Literally just wow. Um this anime so far has been beautiful and amazing. I genuinely love this show so much so far and have cried during all episodes :). I literally have like no words just the story telling and animation is PERFECT IS SO BEAUTIFUL OH MY GOSH. I RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE LITERALLY ITS SO GOOD

Tokyo revengers: 

ngl I didn’t think I would like this anime and the first part of the first episode was very boring to me but honestly I really love this show so far. Not the direction I thought this was going to go (I tried to not do too much research) but after the second episode, I’m so hooked. I really enjoyed the shows concept idea and love the whole “uwu sad boy finally sticking up for himself” troupe going on. I thought I was going to hate the main character because at first he just seems like such a depressing spineless guy, which I’m being a little harsh it’s not that bad. Anyways The main character is actually not annoying or anything and I love that there is already character development in the first episodes. Overall I really recommend this anime just for the story itself. I can’t wait to see more and how the plot unfolds.

I’m so happy there is a lot of different and more unique art styles throughout this spring season. I genuinely love new art styles and just new concepts in general and it’s really cool actually keeping up with all of these shows so far! (Also I am up to date with all episodes release so these are all based off what I’ve seen) Anyways hope you enjoyed❤️
