Allura

Lots of people (myself included tbh) ship klance (Keith and Lance). In s8 the creators made Allura/Lance canon (but then they killed her off and left the ending ambiguous it was weird). Anyway the fandom treats her like she's the most terrible bitchy woman ever but all she wants to do is end the war and avenge her destroyed home planet. Yeah she wasn't always the nicest or always the best, but you could argue some other characters in the show aren't either and they aren't treated near as bad as allura. people really just hate her bc Lance liked her. I don't think allura/lance are good together, but I still liked her as a character and thought she was interesting and had a lot of growth during the show. she DEF is not evil like some people portray her as in fic or talk about her in captions on posts. I've seen people say that they HATE her and that she's the worst and I'm like ??? let her live (well sort of ig she is dead now). lots of fic writers use her as the villain which is so interesting to me bc the show literally has villains like use them. anyway allura so perfectly fits the bracket description she deserves better.

I hate to acknowledge my time in this fandom but I hate the way the fandom treated her more. Allura was treated like shit no matter what side of the Great Ship War you were on because she was always a threat to the biggest ships (klance and sheith). At best she got put into Background Lesbian or Consolation Prize Shallura (Space Mom-zoned) (She was not a motherly figure btw. She was just Black). At worst she was violently demonized for being ~racist~ (kinda not cool with the alien race that blew up her planet for a few episodes), complete with misogynistic language hurled at her (she got called a bitch sooo much). Allura was a good and cool character and the show did her dirty but the fandom was somehow worse.

i apologise for speaking the dark magicks, but amidst the voltron fandoms many, many transgressions, there were a particular subset of people who just hated this girl. the infamous klance wars of the 2010s kept this perfectly fine childrens cartoon character in the sights of shippers everywhere, and she (and her voice actress im sure) were subjected to years of petty squabble blown up to global perportions. ive seen hate, ive seen rants, ive seen fanfics that made her homophobic. girls been through the ringer, and even though voltron was never the show its fandom wanted it to be, i believe allura deserved better

Supernatural is so mean to women and committed to queerbaiting but it still gives Sam and Dean lovers to kill. The writers kill and villainize them and the fans get the few that remain

just finished lift your eyes up 🫡 …a whole 2yrs after i read hfym and told myself omg this shit slaps why haven’t i been reading destiel fics all this time lemme get started on the sequel too... and then i promptly forgot abt it just like i had forgotten spn after i binged it up to s8 in 2013 (you’re so real for dropping it after that one too btw);; though somehow hfym ended up being more memorable than the show itself so i did come back to it and let me tell you, the reread was just as enjoyable as reading it the first time;; i couldn’t just skim the reader’s guide and jumping right into s2, you know?

but now that im done with that too i’m just like. so fucking invested in the plot?? i love seeing the characters get a refresh from the show and how you switch things up and not just make them suffer and go in circles all the time and destiel’s relationship is sooo nicely portrayed bc its sooo Them and the love they have for each other goes so deep and !!!!! aaaaagghh!!

also this one part in the last ch made me actually go insane: “An angel gets on his knees in front of him so he can look him in the eye. Reaches out a hand that can heal or crush or warp reality, and all he does is wipe Dean’s tears away.”

like, no pressure and i rlly hope you’re doing well after churning all that out in less than 2 pandemic-ridden years but Holy Shit pls never stop writing!!!! take all the time you need just know that i am fully Seated for that final part after the emotional rollercoaster i’ve just been through

ppl have been liking my spnfic shenanigans lately so figured I'd repost the two WIPS i have on ao3. warning, these aren't written very well. at all. there's lots of things i would (and still may) go back and change or just cut. but uh here

re-imagining of spn spanning 10x3-15x20, explaining more than a few things. this mess was supposed to be a finale fix-it fic that wrapped things up fairly neatly after a few chapters, but then the Postcanon Myth Stuff ate my brain. it may still end up being a shorter fix-it fic, if only bc i personally thought the solution/"fix" I'd figured out was badass. currently reaches right up to where main spn canon ends.

Set some time before that gut wrenching mess I wrote a couple nights ago (so, still no Cas/no Destiel, sry). A rare bit of fluff as Dean attempts to get Dean Jr used to Earth life by taking him on a supply run. I do want to continue/finish this one over the summer.

(btw the reason there's no Destiel in my postcanon hcs isn't bc I'm not a heller, its bc ever since 15x20 Dean has been constantly on the run/hanging on by his fingernails trying to survive. Despite this, Dean HAS attempted to rescue Cas twice so far, both attempts having, long story short, failed miserably. 3rd time's the charm? maybe? please???)

The Dead Forest - hansbekhart / stucky T. one of my all time favorite fics. cant get over how much i love this one. steve finds himself in the modern era and is depressed as shit. circular ending is disgustingly good and i love this fic so much. makes me miss living in nyc lol

my arms in the sky by lvsr / stucky M. steve and bucky are not good right now and bucky is an ass hole to steve and steve tries to kill himself but.. open ending! also one of my top ten. love love love this one

Supernatural (Destiel)

right hand on his rifle, swore it on the bible by quensty / destiel T. pretty angsty. dean is empty inside rip. this fic is pretty good, definitely in the top 1% of the ones i read. still, why is it so hard to find fics that are well written like this one??

There's Only One Sure Thing That I Know by blinkiesays / destiel E. this ones not even that angsty, but i really really like it for some reason. dean and cas get stuck in ohio and lisa breaks up with dean bc of it. the fic is amazing. i had to sit down after this one no joke. its really good. pretty long compared to what i usually like tho

this is gospel by piesexuality / destiel series. very great, not super memorable but still amazing. if you want a selection of great fics written by this person then here u go. religious imagery

Syringa Vulgaris by babykid528 (private) / shreve/quentin G. also one of my favorite fics but tsatf has the best fics in general tho. really stays with you.

The Meteor Shower by vonpourrise / estragon/vladimir G. great fic, hits as hard as the original. formatted as a script.

I thought, let's see if there are any wolfstar fics, I haven't checked into that fandom in years, and dear gods I never expected this.

I thought I was going to find a relic of a fandom, like with most of my favourite ships from when I was a teen. I thought I'd have to delve into fanfiction.net, which I still haven't really worked out, as someone who primarily reads destiel fanfic on AO3. Can someone tell me how to filter them so they're all complete and no WIPs, btw? I can google how to do it but I've never bothered tbh.

Instead what I found was an ACTIVE wolfstar community!! Recent fics! Epics, too, like in the destiel fandom (think, redemption road), and I just finished All The Young Dudes after 3 days of non stop reading and I can't even. It's brilliant.

For a fandom to have a fic of that quality and size is a feat on its own. I thought I'd be reading oneshots. I understand that might be a bleak view, but I got obsessed with destiel pretty early, and going back to old ships has always been a disappointment. Going from thousands and thousands of fics to maybe 300, if you're really lucky.

I liked to call myself a prolific fanfic reader, before branching out and realising I was only ever good at finding the specific fanfic I wanted in the destiel fandom, and obviously, as I had known before becoming so distant from everything but supernatural fanfic, that every fandom has its own conventions and tags and ways of doing things. I've grown attached to the supernatural fandom's way of doing things (as well as AO3's platform), I must admit. It has been difficult to branch out.

Of course, I haven't needed to search actual fanfic sites yet with wolfstar, with all the rec lists. You have no idea how happy I am that there are rec lists. Ever tried finding good fanfic without any rec lists at all? No authors to start with, wattpad is the first couple results on google. It's a nightmare, honestly.

I am really, fucking happy to have found this fandom again. I kinda feared going back, I didn't want to find the ship abandoned like so many others. Wolfstar was my first true ship, and also the one and only fanfic (a oneshot) I ever finished. Never published it. If I can find it again, I'm thinking maybe I should. After a rewrite, of course, I was hella young back then, I'm scared to even look at how I wrote lol

Yeah idk this was a rant, I guess. I don't have anyone in my life who'd be excited to hear about me rediscovering a fandom, so I thought I'd just post it here.

Also want to add I don't agree with J.K.'s politics and I don't know if I'll ever be able to separate the author from the work. At least with fanfic, I don't have to do that, because it's not written by her, and she's not profiting from its existence, right?

okay people keep saying "culturally impactful" but all they have to back this up is numbers of fic from AO3 (a very Western-centric website last I checked), and like the one time it trended more than the presidential election. btw, which one? I guess apparently it just trended more than the election this one time and that means something? (also isn't really a feat The Witch from Mercury could pull off since it didn't air during a US election year, but I digress).

also what is it with AO3 numbers anyway? like, is Destiel even the most popular pairing on AO3? or Supernatural? what about Star Wars or Star Trek? those fandoms are probably way more culturally impactful than Supernatural, but due to recency bias it wouldn't surprise me if the numbers of fics are anywhere near as high as say Harry Potter.

speaking of Harry Potter, I'm like 90% certain that franchise has been more "culturally impactful" on fandom more than anything since it came out (and probably dances circles around Supernatural on AO3—wait let me check... yeah that's definitely more fics than Supernatural), and yet more and more people have come to the conclusion that maybe it wasn't as good as they remember it, or maybe the fandom ideal of HP was better than the source material (and that's not even getting into the backlash against the author). I mean we're talking about a franchise that some people went so far as to say invented the idea of fandom to begin with (lmao) losing its grasp on older fans.

this is a huge reason why Destiel is losing the way it is. people are finally done with that ship and prefer happy canon marriage ending that went against the wishes of executives over meme ending that can't even be interpreted as them being partners.

no but seriously, the ending of The Witch from Mercury is kinda like Japan's Korrasami moment (possibly bigger since Gundam is a much more established franchise over there than Avatar is over here). the production staff had to fight against the executives of one of the biggest toy companies in the world and, partly thanks to fandom backlash, got the ending they wanted to tell. how is that less impactful than what happened with Destiel?

EDIT: FUCK I keep forgetting about Homestuck. to me (and probably countless others) Tumblr will always be the Homestuck website, and this over a decade since the fandom peaked. I'm not on here much at all anymore, but to me it's absolutely laughable that this is considered the Supernatural website.
