Evaluation on my ICT skills
January 10th
I hoped that my skills in ICT would improve during the course of my internship and that I would perhaps learn to use new softwares and programmes. I believe that over the course of the internship I have been able to do this.
Itrent is the HR system that is used across the university. Employees can use this system to book annual leave, sickness and book on to attend training courses. I have access to the Itrent for managers. I use this programme on a daily basis so that I can monitor training course numbers, find information for staff members with queries, run reports and much more. At first I found this system difficult to learn as I believe the technology is slightly outdated and different to what I am used to, however I quickly picked it up and I can achieve tasks using this system quickly and efficiently. I think its a great benefit to myself to know this system as when applying for jobs in the future I can demonstrate that I have experience using HR systems and can learn to operate them quickly.
I have also learnt to use excel in a much more professional way. This is a programme that is used regularly in my studies to create graphs and charts for written assessments. However I use this programme much more to run reports that are sent out to the heads of schools and services as well as examine important data. I believe that having an in-depth knowledge of these popular programmes is a great CV booster and will help me in my future career search.
My typing has improved ten fold since starting this job. Before starting this role I took an online speed typing test which showed I could type 45 words per minute with a 90% accuracy rate. I have recently taken this test again and I can now type 56 words per minute with a 96% accuracy rate. I think working within an administrative role means typing is a necessary skill and I am proud to have achieved this. I hope I can continue to build on my typing and accuracy.
