It took a long for you to realize Sae likes you. To be precise, you had no clue about his feelings until he confessed. There are a few reasons why you never even notice. Firstly, you two are childhood best friends, so you've always thought that Sae has only a friendship for you. And secondly, he changed after return from Spain. Sae started to realize his feelings for you around this time. He denied it, he hated that he has a crush on his best friend, that his mind is full of thoughts of you, not of football, that he missed you so freaking much during his Spain trainings, he thought he loses his mind. Of course his behavior towards you changed. Sae closed himself and distanced himself from you. It seemed more like he hated you, than he had a crush on you. You thought that his behavior is due to difficult life in Spain. So it took about a few months to realize Sae liked you.

W - Win (What do they do to win you over? Courting behavior, basically)

Sae accepted his feelings, Sae confessed. This's the best way to win you over. The end.

But let's talk about his behavior when he had a crush on you, but has not yet realized it. The first thing I want to say is that his family, not Rin, but his parents, already knew that their precious son fell in love for the first time. The way little Sae looked exited every time you visited Itoshi household. Or this day, when Sae awkwardly asked his parents to buy a parting gift with him for you, because he's going to go to Spain and want you to have something that reminds you of him. Honestly, he wanted to be listened to and understood, he wanted to tell you what happened to him after he left, why he became like this. He wanted it because he knew, you get it. And Sae was right. You listened intently to his messy explanations without interrupting, nodding in understanding. And then you accepted all without reproaches and quarrels. Sae never, ever thought that he'd fall in love with someone so much. His life goal is becoming the best football player, he usually made fun of U-20 or players whose mind is always full of dating and idols. But then Sae fell in love with you. And the thoughts of you filled his mind. Sae thinks about you before the match and wants you to watch his games. He buys a lot of cute stuff, because he thinks you like it. He read the books and watches the films he isn't interested in just because you like it, because he wants to see your happy face, when he says that he knows these books and movies. Sae always thought that his life is just football and that's it. But then you changed his life, You changed him. And, you know, he's not against it.

Would you believe aside from Sae coming to Spain, he wants to learn about other Latin countries that connect to his destination in Spain? Tango is one of them, originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has a team player back in Spain where he has a talent of it. Aside from Flamenco, tango is one of the most known ballroom Latin dances. The sways, and strut footwork that compliments the dancers in great coordination fascinates him.

It was a picturesque nostalgia way back then. Sae could still remember some steps he learned from his soccer colleague. And when you knew about it, he didn't give second thoughts to teach you. From the basic and formal posture to the strutting footwork. You have to be quick to pace the swaying movements that coordinate the music. Its sultry music on the background makes it even more endearing of a challenge. Sae can be strict about it at first, as he puts respect onto this form of dance.

He shrugged as he continued to guide you along the rhythm. He is focused, yet it mesmerizes you. Never you seen Sae dazzled in this kind of dance before? Which makes you wander around your thoughts.

You snapped, the moment Sae twirled you to the side and transitioned to the front. His arms were supporting you as your hand didn't leave his grasp. With a click of your heels together posing behind him, closely.

Utterly breaths behind your ear that made you shiver. The feeling is something you can not describe.

"D-did we finish it?"

"That's only the basic formation we did. You'll see the most difficult part where I can toss you and pull you aggressively." Sae explained as he wipes his sweat using his forearm.

You gulped a bit since this was your first time dancing it with him. Well, relieving to be him of all people to teach you tango. Bids of your sweat pattered down to your face. A good achievement that encouraged you to learn something new with Sae has always been a journey, especially the love he gives to support you in teaching this dance.

Sae turned to look at you deeply, you blinked as you noticed him smiling at you.

⸝⸝ i don’t see sae as being a cheater or a bad partner in general so (not to be cliche but) the breakup would probably be because of him having a poor work/life balance and his career getting in the way.

⸝⸝ after the breakup he’d totally immerse himself in his career, kinda like subconscious avoidance of his feelings on the matter. you guys would go full no contact. eventually it would catch up to him and hit him like a truck.

summary: your boyfriend hates the idea of letting you go out alone at night. even if it's a one minute walk. and even if it's for ice cream.

the warmth of his hand radiated throughout your whole body as you walked side by side on the empty street, in contrast to the chilled air of the clear night.

"you seriously didn't have to come with me," you mumbled, gesturing to the small bag in your other hand when sae hummed in question. your footsteps coordinated with each other's. left and then right. you felt silly when you realised how it made you smile to yourself.

"i wanted to. i needed a breather anyway." he replied, voice raspy. neither of you had talked much on the short walk to the supermarket, with your stomach yearning for the taste of your favourite ice cream and sae following after you with his hands buried in his hoodie and his head kept low in an effort to be hidden.

your midnight cravings were maybe a little ridiculous. but sae wasn't one to complain. especially when you were so insistent on not letting him tag along, saying 'sae, it's just a minute away. i'm gonna be fine.'

no way in hell would he ever let you go somewhere alone at this time. so he told you to shut up and wait for him as he threw on a hoodie and slipped on the shoes that were easiest to wear. he felt relieved that he was spending the night at your place. if he wasn't there, you'd still go alone for your beloved ice cream and he just can't stand the thought of not being with you.

he had also realised that he never knew your favourite ice cream flavour.

and he knows how loud your laugh is, because you just laughed out of nowhere and it's booming through his ears because the neighbourhood is so quiet.

"sorry. the cashier's face when he saw you— it was so funny," you cackled, not bothering to think about the people who were probably sleeping in the houses that you passed by.

"he definitely thought he was seeing shit. the guy's probably been working all day." sae said with a hint of a chuckle.

the thought made you laugh harder for some reason. you grabbed his hand tighter and stopped in the middle of the street, right under the streetlight, hunching over and laughing your heart out. sae looked at you and saw your slightly guilty expression as you couldn't stop.

he smiled.

it was not his fault that your laugh was so contagious and your cheeks looked so cute when you smiled wide.

you started to quiet down from the sudden laughing fit when you noticed his smile.

"i've never seen you smile like that before."

sae blinked. was he smiling?

"noooo, why'd you stop smiling now?" you whined, getting cut off by sae when he gently but swiftly placed his finger on your lips.

"shhh. people are sleeping." he played it off, looking below at the bag in your hand. "and your ice cream will melt."

you smiled and kissed his finger. he retreated with instant regret. still, he liked that.

"sorry," you sheepishly replied. "your smile is just.. something."

"whatever. let's go home."

you hummed, continuing the walk. this time, you both walked faster.

but you couldn't stop yourself from saying it. your face felt warm when you stared at your partner. he avoided your gaze and looked forward with a twitch in his lips.

"i'm gonna bring that pretty smile on your face again. just watch."

he exhaled. you grinned.

it's not going to take a long time for you to make him smile once again— he knows that deep down. and he's happy that you're the reason for it.

'Please help me hand this to our homeroom teacher, I need to get to class early!' She nods her head at you and then rushed to the teacher's lounge whilst you walk to class.

You slid the door open alerting some of your classmates inside thinking that it was the teacher. You smile at them before waving around to tell them to sit on their assigned seats 'Next week is the festival! You guys make sure you volunteer for the festival committee.' A chorus of 'Yes' echoes through the classroom. You grin and nods before you make your way to your seat.

You reluctantly turn your head to the side to see Sae looking at you with one hand propping under his chin. You smile at him to which he did not return back but instead turn his head against.

You look back in front, empty-headed as you wait for the teacher. Minutes passed and the door slid open again but it wasn't the teacher but instead your girl-friend and the school head prefect.

'Our teacher is assigned to attend an important meeting, she asked for Asahi's help.' Your friend said returning to her seat which is in front of you.

The head prefect wrote something on the board and said 'Your homeroom teacher had asked you all to copy this!' The whole class bring out their books almost in sync and began rewriting what was on the board.

'L/n?' Asahi called 'Your teacher asked you to write today's attendance for her.' You smile and hum at him before continuing to write down.

The class ended, and you put your stuff back inside your bag and bring out your lunchbox 'Y/n? I need to talk to you for a moment.' You glance up at Asahi before momentarily nodding and getting your tumbler along with your lunch before following him outside.

Sae on the other hand witnessed the scene, and he followed you both outside. The two of you are talking at the end of the hall, before eventually separating ways. He saw your friend nearing you and you both disappear downstairs.

He has no idea what you two talks about but it's enough to make him feel sort of way that you both talks solitary.

After recess ceased, you and your friend separated because she had something to do, and you walks to class alone when suddenly a hand grasp your wrist making you wheeze. The person steadily hold a palm to your mouth to prevent you from shouting and you panicked.

The panic subsided once you realized that it was just, Sae.

'You scared me!' You complained, one hand over your chest feeling it throbbing inside you, his face is poker and steady making you feel even more creeped out 'What's wrong with you? Why do you suddenly pulled me like...'

'What did he talk to you about?' For a moment, you were perplexed, who was he talking about '...Oh, you mean Asahi?' An idea ran the course to your mind making you mentally chortle 'Nothing, he said nothing. You don't have to worry.' You untangled his hand from your wrist and were about to leave but he pin you down again 'What do you mean nothing? What. Did. He say.' He punctuated each words making you even more worked up

You push his hand away, far harsher than earlier and sigh 'I told you it's nothing. Why do you want to know anyway?' You cock a brow at him as he mirrored your expression, hard.

'It's because you are my girlfriend.'

You scoff 'That was lukewarm of you to say such a thing like that. It was your argument anyway about not wanting everyone to know about us.' He scowl at you making you laugh slightly 'He... Confessed?'

You hum, being unbothered 'So what if he did? Are you jealous?' He scoff making you irk a bit but his lack of response shows you otherwise 'You said nothing on your defense, so I guess that you are jealous? He huffs, hands folding

The place was a bit dimmed but you still manage to catch a glimpse of his pouty face, it wasn't very visible but it was there 'You are sulky.' You laugh, and he growls pushing you back against the wall 'You should stop teasing me, Y/n.'

'I will Itoshi, I'm sorry, and I'm sorry for lying because Asahi never confessed.' He looks at you, expression almost bewildered before he switches it back to his expressionless sentiment. You snorts 'You are hilarious getting so work up like this when me and him are just, taking...'

And then he left as you follow him close behind 'Come on, are you mad? Over small thing?' He stop grabbing you by your wrist and pull you close next to him 'If you're desperately wanted to tell them who you belongs to.' He walks back inside the hall with you hand in hand.

even half asleep, sae can hear your laugh as you walk into the classroom. he can hear the click of your shoes in the midst of the rowdy classroom as you greet other students. he forces himself to keep his head down while he listens. you’re walking down the row to his desk and he’s about to look up, when you walk right past him to someone else’s desk.

anger floods is mind as he thinks back to earlier this morning when instead of walking to school with him, you decided to ask someone else. your tutor who became your ‘friend’ over the weekend. he left you on delivered when you texted him that, sudden unwanted thoughts of you with someone else —doing only god knows what— filled his head with insecurity and jealousy.

so part of him wants to whip is head around to see if its that tutoring bastard from this past weekend. but another part of him was saying, it’s not even a big deal, i don’t care anyway. so he keeps his feet grounded and his head on his desk. he scoffs to himself in frustration, yet something hidden in his head stings as he hears you giggle.

he goes throughout the day ignoring you. yea, he knows he’s being petty and childish, but he insists. when you try and grab his arm, completely oblivious to his emotions, he doesn’t let you drag him around, he sits at a completely different lunch table, and he’s not waiting for you at the end of the day near the vending machines outside.

you end up finding him walking alone among the other last students leaving the school. you had traded notes last second with your tutor before the test tomorrow, and it happened to be the perfect timing.

“sae!” you shout as you excitedly jump onto his back, arms wrapping around his neck. he doesn’t budge and he only keeps on walking.

“sae?” your smile slowly fades as you drop back onto your feet.

“what,” sae forces a monotone voice, still facing forward, not giving you an ounce of attention just like you had done. maybe he was exaggerating and being dramatic, but he kept on walking.

“why didn’t you talk to me today?” you ask as you fall into step beside him.

sae only shrugs and keeps his eyes forward.

“i missed you over the weekend, y’know?” you say with hints of oblivious affection. you look at him from the side, watching as he purses his lips.

and sae almost, almost gives in. he almost wraps his arms around you, pressing his lips to yours in an apology for his petty actions, a sudden realization of how hurtful he was being towards you. but he wouldn’t be itoshi sae if he wasn’t stubborn.

“yeah well it seems like you had a lot of fun with your tutor,” sae spits out before unconsciously walking quicker. you catch up with a few skips.

“what? i mean i guess? it was mostly frustrating cause math is really hard and i don’t-“

“yeah, great.” he interrupted, ignoring that sting in his heart again. “well why don’t you go to him for everything then. just go ahead and replace me since you seem so caught up on him.” and he knows he’s spouting lies, he knows he’s only saying it because he’s hurt.

you step in front of him, and when he tries to move around you, you follow him.

“itoshi sae,” you cross your arms as a smug smile takes place on your face, “are you seriously jealous right now?” and you immediately see the way he begins to panic: he’s looking away as his face turns red.

“no,” sae says firmly, “shut up, i’m not,” you laugh as you see right through him.

“saeeee,” you take a hold of the collar on his uniform before pulling him in. keeping him mere inches away as you feel his breath fan over your mouth.

sae swallows his pride as he leans forward to press his lips against yours. and hes hungry for it. lips pushing and pulling, teeth nipping; a little crazy and aggressive, but you get the point. pulling away with a breath, you see the way his are still dark.

“don’t kiss anyone else like this, ‘kay? don’t even talk to him anymore.” sae grumbles against your temple as his hands find their way possessively gripping your hips.

you laugh softly, “he’s my tutor so, i kinda have to talk to him if i wanna pass math,” you shrug.

and sae has to hold back a pout.

“i’ll help you study, you should’ve came to me first, idiot.” he mumbles, trying to filter as much affection out of his voice as he can.

“mm,” you press forward and connect your lips to his again in agreement.

you feel his arms move from your hips to around your waist, pressing you close to him as he buries his embarrassed face into your neck.

“i missed you too.”
