Well, Schlossberg just confirmed they don't see what happened to Robby this season as sexual assault and fans shouldn't either. Isn't it SO great when you have dudebros like them to lecture us on how severely drunk teenagers can consent /s
I would never let a producer in the entertainment industry tell me what is and isn't sexual assault. I mean, when Shirley Temple was twelve years old, she was 'loaned' to another studio for a film and the first thing that happened was, a big Hollywood guy took her into a private office and showed her his naked body (after they had taken away her mother to another office and came on to her). Anything could have happened but I think she did the best thing you can do in such a situation and embarrassed him by howling with laughter. Assault of minors is rampant in the industry, of course they don't want people raising questions about taking sexual advantage of teens. And no, I am not saying Schlossberg himself did but he is part of a culture that still has absolutely no problem with the concept, of course he is echoing those sentiments.
They may not have meant it to be read that way but every writer who thinks they own a story or its interpretation doesn't respect what stories are. Stories are formed and informed by the writer(s) but they are its own beast and affect people in different ways. And when you're ever lucky enough to create something that then inspires others to continue it themselves [Like HE DID!!!], you'll have to live with the fact you never quite own a story. People will take it and reshape it and expand it when they love it enough. Sure, you can say whether or not you agree with an interpretation, you can choose to engage with it or not, but once you send a story out into the world, you're not the only one shaping it anymore. Ask Kamen about the Daniel he'd envisioned. That Danny Webber was an insecure all American kid, not a skinny, sassy Italo-American punk. He had to rewrite it into a musical to get his timid white boy on stage. Authorial intent is not the be all, end all. That doesn't mean that the audience gets to tell the writer what to do, but the writer can as little tell the audience what to do. I'm interested in what writers intend and what they have to say but when it isn't on the page I feel free to disregard it and when it is no one can make me think it's not.
Schlossberg is just some guy. He can tell me what to think but he doesn't control it. As the Germans say: thoughts know no master.

Album Review #55 - L'amour toujours by Gigi D'Agostino
Ah, sadness, the all ever recurring sadness, have you noticed how most dance music is just happy? I mean, naturally, if you are dancing you are happy, you are energetic. But, to be honest, I like dance music that retains that feeling of sadness, not just of sorrow, but also that feeling of wistful thoughts, for some, it could be nostalgia, for others, it could be something they haven't experienced yet, something they are longing for. Okay, actually, despite what I have said just now, there is actually quite a lot of dance music that retains that feeling of sadness, but I don't think there ever was a music genre that properly depicted that sensation of longing in such a romantic way, than Italo Dance.
With the duration of this whole album, it might seem a bit too long, but keep in mind Italo Dance is a singles genre, this album all in all has several remixes of its own songs, alternate versions, and repeats, if anything, I think seeing it as a boxset it is more fitting, a boxset where you can pick the versions you want, make yourself a nice playlist, activate the cross-fade, and enjoy all in all a nice DJ Mix, you can still play it in full, and a lot of the songs might sound similar at times, but if there is something true to the the Italo Dance formula is the ever lasting downcast trance you end up in when you play it. When you play Italo Dance, you are not only listening to it, you are feeling it on every limb, go ahead and try it, slowly move, standing up, sitting down, dancing it is just a fantastic activity, not just when you do it as a coordinated and practiced skill, but as an expression of the soul, I want to move my arms, my shoulders, even if I look silly, even if I am crying and tears are coming from my eyes, I want to move as well and express what I am feeling with my extremities, my head, my skin.
A downbeat, robotic sounding big emotional delivering vocals, a piano carrying the main melody and careful, or sometimes a silly, cute simple synth that sounds more like a sampled horn than anything else, and at the end delicate keyboards that create a flimsy but delicate atmosphere around you. Even songs like The Riddle, as I mentioned in my review of the single, even with its majestic nature, it maintains a feeling of pure optimism, as if you were going into an adventure, and it is beautiful, absolutely beautiful, songs like The Riddle are songs that I want to describe my life with.
Chansons for the Heart doesn't have just a body with energy but also a kind heart and a wishful soul, it is a beautiful filled with brimming passion which I would recommend to anyone with a broken heart to give it a try, if you allow it to, it will make you cry. Oh and there is also a whole bonus disc, but that one is just okay.
8/10 for Chansons of he Heart
5/10 for Beats for the Feet
7/10 for the whole album

Muscle Memory presents: Body Of Light
All Star music band ! This sounds super cool
Muscle Memory are here to make your body take control. Brooklyn duo Michael Tapper and Steven Reker have already cut a distinct shape separately in the local scene as dancefloor-filling DJs, and together they’re making dance music that’s weird, wooly, and with a throbbing pulse that moves you from the inside out.
They’ve already captivated live audiences and listeners alike with the alluring “Taste of a Kiss,” and with plenty more singles in the pipeline Muscle Memory are set to provide proper satisfaction to anyone with a sweet tooth for left-of-center electronic music.
Tapper and Reker have been notable city stalwarts for a minute now; you’ve doubtless heard the former’s stick work behind the drum kit for bands like We Are Scientists, Yellow Ostrich, and Fool’s Gold. Meanwhile, Reker’s own off-kilter approach to songwriting has shone through in his seminal indie rock band People Get Ready, as well as his dancing and choreography work for artists like David Byrne, Khruangbin, and Fleet Foxes.
This summer, the duo stepped out with their intoxicating debut EP Taste of a Kiss, featuring the hypnotic title track as well as three distinct edits of the tune—including a delightfully Prince-inspired remix from West Coast producer Woolfy. With more single releases on the way, Muscle Memory are continuing to embrace their own creative regimen, discovering new sounds within their emerging collaborative approach while remaining informed by their indie backgrounds. Larry Fitzmaurice

What if Arthur Russell made an Italo Disco song and invited Gang Of Four on guitar? It might sound something like Body Of Light, Muscle Memory's 2nd single.
That was the inspiration, anyway, and to make a song that would fit in the DJ sets of their monthly residency at James Murphy's NYC club Nightmoves.

Acclaimed Paris-based electro pop sextet and JOVM mainstays L’Impératice will be releasing their highly-anticipated, self-produced third full-length album Pulsar through microqlima records on June 7, 2024. Pulsar is an album, where the band — founder Charles de Boisseguin (keys), Hagni Gown (keys), David Gaugué (bass), Achille Trocellier (guitar), Tom Daveau (drums) and Flore Benguigui (vocals) — made every decision while capturing the band’s spirit both onstage and off. Fittingly, the album reportedly radiates with the energy and wisdom of an outfit that has helmed countless dance parties around the world on the way to find itself and its sound. Throughout the album’s material, the Parisian JOVM mainstays move freely and authoritatively among the sounds they love, bridging hip-hop, kosmiche and modern pop with their most unabashed embraces of French Touch and international house of their growing catalog. Pulsar is also the first album of their catalog to feature guest vocalists, including acclaimed folk/pop artist Maggie Rogers and rapper/producer Erick the Architect among a list of others. The album sees the acclaimed pop outfit trying a new creative approach: They split into two teams of ever-interchanging members to explore new ideas, led by the band’s founder Charles de Boisseguin. It was a way of incorporating every voice into the songwriting process like never before, pulling from idiosyncratic upbringings and enthusiasm. They then passed tracks to lead vocalist Flore Benguigui, a longtime jazz singer, who would sometimes write two-dozen vocal melodies for a song, just to see which one fit best. It was an arduous and exciting process that saw the band go from writing through recording in about nine months. For L’Imperatice, this was the sort of self-determination they’d longed for and now found. Throughout the album’s material, the band’s Benguigui boldly sings of self-empowerment, shirking beauty standards, ageism and drag normalcy throughout the album’s material. These are apt messages for incandescent anthems of experience, of fully being yourself, instead of anyone else’s version of it. The album will feature, “Me Da Igual,” a sleek and elegant, hook-driven Giorgio Moroder-era-disco-meets-French touch tune anchored by a strutting bass line, a squiggling Nile Rodgers-like funk guitar line and glistening synths serving as a sinewy and silky bed for Flore Benguigui’s sultry and ethereal delivery. Further cementing the French outfit’s reputation for crafting infectious, sensual, dance floor friendly bops, “Me Da Igual” features lyrics sung in Spanish and French while being a call to free ourselves from the injunctions to please at all costs, to reclaim your body by abandoning yourself to the euphoria of strobe lights and the dance floor — and listening to the sensations that movement and sound provides you. The album’s second and latest single “Danza Marilú” features Italian vocalist Fabiana Martone. Continuing a bit where its immediate predecessor left off, “Danza Marilú” is a sleek, hook-driven, Giorgio Moroder-era-Italo-disco-meets-French touch bop anchored around glistening synth arpeggios, squiggling funk guitar, a supple and sinuous bass line and thumping beats. Inspired by and written as a rebuttal to Serge Gainsbourg‘s “L’Homme á tête de chou,” Pulsar‘s latest single is a defiantly feminist anthem for women of all ages, encouraging them to get on that dance floor and to be freely themselves — in spite of the looks that may ensue by insecure haters of all stripes. The acclaimed French outfit are in the middle of a lengthy international tour that will see the sextet playing four shows in NYC: April 9, 2024 at Racket NYC; April 10, 2024 at Music Hall of WIlliamsburg; and September 7, 2024 and September 8, 2024 at Terminal 5. The September 8, 2024 show was added due to demand. And that isn’t surprising to me: I’ve caught them once, and they’re a must-see act that will have the entire room dancing the night away. Alon...

Days Of Steam 008: Icarus Redux
(Released July 11, 2023)
Restrained freakout sonics and subcranial rhythms from @icarus-redux — “earth-moving kicks, baleful, eyes-dilated synths, and rough, mostly unsampled breakbeats. Fog machine bathing all as one.” Inspired as an artist by a mixed bag of artists and theorists that cast light on the darkness - Fisher, Graeber, Preciado, Shadow, Sprinkles, Tiqqun, Weatherall - this mix is one of the first I’ve heard that approaches AI-assisted technologies (demuxing, polyrhythmic mixing, etc) in a way that reminds me of early cut-and-paste techniques or Richie Hawtin’s Decks x EFX mixes that reassemble contexts on a micro-level, not just layering tracks over each other but reconstructing them, and here it’s far more subtle. It’s enticing and unnerving to me but such is the effect of the dawn of a new form of technology that has the principle for use and abuse. Here it’s done to only positive effect, again highlighting the spaces between the notes, the snatches of memory that flit through your brain. A lot of the tracks from the early 2010s are records I remember hearing and playing when I lived in Leeds, which I had associated with a very different scene that I naively believed at the time would never truly take off Stateside. At the same time, Disclosure were getting big then and I thought the US would pass them over. From downloading italo and house rips off of Bicep's old blog to seeing them headline warehouses in Brooklyn that charge $40+ admission. Mais je divague...
