I feel like I see vampirism as an allegory for a lot of different things. As a queer woman I can relate to feeling like you’re some other, hiding in the shadows to stay safe. As someone with chronic illnesses, I can relate to the lifestyle of a vampire, needing to stay indoors when most people are out enjoying themselves, having dietary needs that people would be put off by, and again that feeling of being an outsider among other things. But most recently, as in over the past year or so I’ve started to look at vampires as a representation of untimely death.
In modern media, a lot of vampires are young. They’re 16-21 year olds who will never physically age and will watch everyone around them grow old and eventually die. But I’m coming from it in a slightly different direction. A little over a year ago I lost a close friend at the age of 21. We were in college, senior year, we had so much more of our lives to live. Of course we had some pictures, but when someone dies, especially that young, you learn that some pictures are never enough. They’re few and far between and cherished. And as you grow older and you achieve more milestones, they stay the same, forever frozen as who they were the last time you saw them. You have birthdays, but they’ll never age again. You graduate college, start job hunting, start the next chapter of your life….they don’t. Now I know a lot of people think of ghosts and the dead, but sometimes, especially with young deaths, I feel like a vampire is so much closer to the truth. They stay alive by your memories, never changing even as you do, and when you think about them too much you start to think about your own mortality, and I think this questioning of mortality is kinda the key for vampires. You don’t expect someone that young to die. You don’t want to. Especially not a friend. And then you start think about how it could be someone else. How it could be you. And you’ll be the next person stuck as an unchanging memory in the minds of those who love you. Mortality is scary. Facing morality is scary. And an undead creature that goes on in the world feeding off the life force of others is scary. But the memories of others only survive if we go on sharing them and thinking about them, so don’t they feed off of us too?
Over a year later and I still remember my friend the same way. He will be 21. His voice won’t get more hoarse, his hair will never gray, his face will never wrinkle. And in 10, 20, 50 years I’ll remember him the same way because he will never change, never get to grow old, never get to be something more than what he was. But if we all stop thinking about him, if he no longer “lives on” in our memories, he essentially dies again. A death for someone already dead. That’s pretty vampiric to me.
I am currently writing a thesis on Vampirism and how it can work as an allegory for sexuality, obsession, lust, illness/disease, corruption, liberation, etc. I'm writing this as a base for an art project for my last semestre in the bachelor's degree I'm taking.
Point is, I want to have as many different interpretations that connect with one another at the center. So, I ask you: what does vampirism symbolize to you personally? How do you connect and interpret it? Do you view it as something to embrace, or as a cautionary tale?
And for my LGBTQ+ people out there: do you view vampirism as a parallel to queerness? Do you see yourself in there?
Don't be afraid to be ranty or ramble. Different views on this topic are always interesting!
#I’m aware I could’ve talked about the queerness and chronic illness stuff more#there’s also probably a nice conversation about mental health that I can find in there if it wasn’t 6am since I haven’t even slept yet#but this thought process about young death and the modern vampire has essentially lived rent free in my head#I know it was brought up in one of my university classes but for the life of me I can’t remember what was said#which yeah I know very helpful#but I just feel so connected to this idea that the memories of those we love never age while we continue to#either way this was probably a mess since it’s so late it’s now early#but OP if you wanna chat about any of it I’m honestly down to#in two separate Uni classes we talked about vampire representation. one in tv and one in young adult lit#and hopefully I’ll be more coherent since I definitely don’t think any of this was and I’m sorry

What's the new Tina incarnation
Ehe, you'll get the hyper-abridged version and the somewhat coherent one after the read more.
Abridged version: Soppy wet cat that's a less-than-average duelist, a coward who avoided most endgame battles, has beef with a demon living in one of her friend's soul bc they killed her while possessing her crush another friend and is the embodiment of these images:
Serious version (ft. tag censorship bc uh I don't want this leaving my circle even by accident):
Her name is Anita, my newest s.elf ins.ert oc in the y-g-o verse. Not as OP as other incarnations because she is in a sh.ou.nen this time, so I avoid making her too important.
As a character, she is the kind of person to do well in theory classes and written tests- but not so much in practice, which keeps the self-esteem quite low, leading to her choosing to stay back or go look for adult help in the more "end-game" battles. This, of course makes it so she never quite improves skill wise...
Accidentally ends up becoming an older sister (despite being just a few months older on average) figure to the core group, but is still childish enough to enable and partake in tomfoolery that isn't too dangerous.
Her d.eck's theme is centered about protection. She is too scared to put her life on the line for anything-- even her beloved friends-- unable to draw on it's full potential.
Until she literally can't run away from one of those world-ending situations her protag friend keeps getting tangled in. She fights a loosing battle knowingly, because otherwise someone else will, and she can't bear the thought of losing a friend to inaction. Not anymore. No more. No more fear, no more hesitation, even as your legs shake and you can't breathe properly- fight.
tl;dr: She is a coward, she loves her friends, she wants to help but doesn't trust herself, she can't live to the expectations of her deck, it took her being forced in a world ending situation to push past her cowardice and fight despite death staring right in the face, she lost, her death broke morale, she haunted the narrative, she came back, nothing will ever be the same, she is becoming braver, she loves her friends no matter where they are and go.
She crushes on the funky crystal lad. Doomed by the narrative from the get go because...gestures c'mon man I'm not blind that 3rd season is very 🌈.
A demon shakes her like a dog toy for their own amusement until graduation. Anita wants to swing at them but the demon isn't corporeal.
--
I'm having brainworms over her lately because it's not usual I deviate from typical heroic characterizations for my oc's or my sona's
I have a more "coherent" plot-point by plot-point breakdown but I gotta paste it on a drive doc.
#*Holds her out like a ferret*#I have a habit of bullying my self inserts when I talk about them but it's done without malice#ask#swamp-tastic#Tina's weird stuff#...also I'm realizing that whenever I give her a love interest I tend to make it so she believes it to be/is one sided#Hm.#Not gonna address that yet#Also fun how despite my preference for cool colors they end up having red as part of their color scheme

Vent post.
Id put it behind a cut but I’m on mobile :/ also this is very ramble and not at all coherent but oh well.
I always have a bit of an issue with posts like this that are like “your trauma and how you react to it doesn’t make you a bad person” because. Uh. Cycles of abuse are a thing, you can absolutely do bad things out of trauma responses. You can absolutely be a shitty, hurtful person from a place of pain. (Staring at the entire state of Israel and its treatment of Palestine). Especially in the context of that post, which specifically mentions anger issues and addiction.
I’m not replying or reblogging said post because I truly don’t think that’s what op was going for, the greater point was “autism isn’t just sunshine and roses but can create real issues for people,” it’s just… an accidental unfortunate implication. But it’s late and I’m dealing with my own neuroatyoical issues flaring up atm so. Yelling about implications and the need for nuance and space for caretaker burnout on my own blog. Probably dealing with some buried trauma of my own.
(Also the USA healthcare system sucks for people who can’t easily take care of themselves, I dunno what it’s like outside the country but in here you need SO Much Money just to get barely adequate care for TBIs or Alzheimer’s or shit. )
There’s a little byplay in the notes that I think is important—someone says “I don’t have autism but I got secondhand trauma because my sibling does,” someone else responds “fuck you, of course allistic is making it all about them self” and a third person goes “hey it’s very common for the siblings of disabled people to be neglected in favor of the ‘squeaky wheel,’ I know it hurts to hear but disability hurts more than just the disabled person.” That plus some of the notes describing damage that autistic people have done (and largely regretted) to others… Disabled people can cause harm. That’s a thing!!! Being disabled does not make you blameless! Cool motive still murder!
And your disability can absolutely cause secondhand harm even if you don’t mean it to! My little sister no longer feels like the smaller sibling because my parents spend more emotional energy on me—and that’s a mild case, my disability only really began being an issue when we were both in college. It’s nothing compared to her friend, whose adult brother suffered a TBI and can’t live at home because it’s not safe to have a huge man around who can’t regulate his strength when he’s upset. It’s not at all his fault that he’s like this, but it’s a horrible situation and ALL involved should be able to say that it’s horrible.
I have done shitty things because of trauma responses, and I have worked really hard to create strategies to keep those shitty behaviors from happening again. I give myself—and others—a bit of a pass when a situation is truly uncontrollable. Or when someone is actively trying to ignore boundaries I’ve set to protect myself, but… that’s not the same as going “I have anger issues. Huh. Oh well! I will continue having destructive trauma responses and do nothing to mitigate it!”
I dunno. I’m sure some of this strong reaction of mine comes from being lashed out at by people in the midst of their own meltdowns, even though those have been more TBI related than autism related. Still. The meltdown was unavoidable but the ways they acted during were… hm. Not great.
At least stay away from vulnerable entities when you’re like this. My partner removes himself from the dog when he’s having a meltdown because the dog can provoke him into physically lashing out. (The dog has no idea, of course. The dog is very stupid and only barely understands what me crying means. ) He can’t control the meltdown happening but he can step away from things he could hurt. I really wish the people who hurt me had stepped away from the child I was.
I wish I’d gotten an apology, too. Like at least apologize for your shitty behavior, please!
(This whole “writing my own separate post and not tagging op” is one of those “hm. Am having Emotion. How to express it without causing pain to others” things I’ve tried to cultivate.)
If you don’t fucking MANAGE damage to others, others won’t want to be around you. If you hurt someone they are absolutely within their rights to set boundaries to protect themselves.
I dunno. I started at point A and I’m not sure where I went from there. Don’t be a dick I guess.

It's very annoying, you'll never see people say Matthew fell in love with Cordelia because he had a crush on Alastair, they just go to hate on Gabriel either with that or the age gap, saw a post saying he used her when she was in a vulnerable position, which never happened
Exactly, or that Matt used to like Lucie because he actually had a crush on James (which, by the way, makes more sense than him falling for Cordelia).
I read that post too and I blocked the OP because lately I have zero parience for stupidity, but it’s hilarious because in the tags they admit they mixed up Gabriel and Gideon and if you reread it keeping this in mind it’s so obvious OP is talking about Gideon: Gabriel has been never recognized as an adult by the Clave, but Gideon does.
Also if Cassandra Clare was coherent with the historical setting and didn’t pick up Victorian London just for the ✨️aesthetic✨️, the characters wouldn’t be considered adults until 21 years of age and not 18 like in modenr days.

Ok, my overanalyzing autistic ass had to start a loooong interpretation of the comments because while the comments were probably made without much thoughts behind them and I don't think the commenters understood what they wrote as anything else but a light joke, I think there's a discussion to be had about the things mentioned.
I have a hard time interpreting the comments as something other than "how dare these male gamers make an horny mod that depict women in such a manner! You, a woman is absolutely allowed to consume this kind of content, but males made it and it shouldn't have been made in the first place for you to consume, which is, once again, very ok."
I don't really understand how she could use the mod (which was implied to be ok) if no one made it (which was implied to be not ok)
And I have a hard time understanding that as "men shouldn't make parody of women in such a horny fashion, but it's ok for women to do it". While I would disagree, it could at least be a coherent idea. But they automatically assumed it was made by men, so I guess that's not what they meant?
Also I know there are people that claim that "any porn or sexual looking content is evil" but I really don't think this is what the commenters are saying here.
The comment "delete straight male gamers" was fine tho. Sure, they assumed a man did it, but the mod is a parody that looks ridiculous, so all in all a little joke isn't inappropriate. And good on op to correct them the way she did.
My hypothesis is that because there is an issue with depiction of women in mainstream games, that tends to treat horniness as a default, and reject any depiction of any "flaw" unless it is to design a woman that is supposed to look "ugly", some very well meaning people will automatically assume every woman character with a horny design as taking part in that. And thus, it must be problematic. This would explain the stance as I understand it because they would be saying "you, a woman that is into women, isn't taking part in that should-look-good-to-straight-men-all-the-time culture in virtue of not being a straight man, but the men that made the mod were definitely taking part in that", and were simply not considering the full scope of what they are saying.
All in all, I'm assuming the commenters are in good faith, not judgmental of anyone, (even if straight men were the butt of the joke, I don't read any hate, just a lightheaded joke) and unless there is another way to interpret the comments, I don't want this to be a call out against them. When we don't know much about someone's life and experiences besides a text we read without even knowing the tone, we should always assume good intentions as long as it is reasonable to do so.
But the reason I'm typing all that is not just to procrastinate the things I'm supposed to be doing right now instead of lying in bed with my phone, it's because this is not the first time I read similar things.
Personally I used to consider myself a hypocrite for both asking for better and less horny design for women in media but also really enjoying looking at said horny designs. (To put it back in context, I am a cis straight-tho-maybe-not-I-dont-know-lately-Im-not-so-sure man, but I grew with many friends that couldn't fit norms (and couldn't myself, undiagnosed adhd is a bitch), so I am wary of mainstream norms even when they cater to exactly me). I gave it a lot of thought as to how something could be enjoyable to me but problematic as a whole.
I think that my mistake, and I see many other folks doing it too, was misunderstanding the issue of should-look-good-to-straight-men-as-a-default culture. The problem isn't "should look good to straight men" the problem is "as a default". I think that one of the issue lgbt folks (and cis straight women too, probably? Maybe not as much) have growing up in general is that since every single space is designed for straight men, they lacked proper spaces to discuss sexuality and sexual content in a way they find confortable and enjoyable.
The gay men that want to talk about how to safely bottom prep should have a space to do that. The trans girls that are proud of their penis because fuck you, they're girls with penises either get on it or get over it, should have space to talk about girldick. The trans girls that hate talking about dicks on girl because they feel very disphoric about that subject but still want to talk about sex should also have a space. Straight women need their space to talk about sex in a way that doesn't focus on men's point of view. Aces also need sex-free spaces to exchange garlic bread recipes.
Lesbians that really love how women look should also have a space, even though it will mean that every now and then you may find content that look like the typical straight men fantasy, and you will have to move on. (Also lesbians: yeah I am 100% with you and while I will not enter your spaces, I must tell you that you are absolutely right: women pretty)
(I will not do every subcommunity of the lgbt+ community, you get the idea)
And of course it must follow that straight men too must have their space. It just must stop being the "default" everywhere space. (Also please, call to my straight brothers: can we please have some variety in the way we depict women bodies ? There's all sort of ways someone can be beautiful, and I think our horny content would be better if we weren't afraid of so many of them)
And maybe keep the "default" space a bit less horny? At least less inclined to promote the cis straight man way of life™.
So please! Lesbians and straight men, unite to develop absolutely insane boob jiggle physics simulators! Straight women! Talk about how these hips make that male character look slutty! Trans girls! Brag about how deep you could shove your dick in another tgirl throat! Other profile of trans girls that is absolutely as much valid even if your profile is not very compatible with the profile mentioned just before and probably results in widely different life experiences! Discuss about how bottom op has enhanced your sex life and self confidence! (As I type that I realize I don't really know what are discussed in many of these specific spaces so if I guessed absolutely wrong and your community definitely never talks about that please feel free to clown on me)
In the meantime, I will enjoy video games that are designed with male and female characters treated in a similar way where design is reflective of a character's identity, and not the author's fetishes, and on the side I will also enjoy more niche horny games where characters have butts and boobs so large physics says they should collapse into a black hole. (Send recommandations for both)
chaos reigns

winter inspiration — headcanon, playlist & aesthetic
summary — inspiration falls differently with each season, except this winter seems like the longest one yet. gyujeong’s been writing less music despite having a surge of inspiration. inspiration comes from different parts of his day to day life, and where he draws the most is where he tends to continue pursuing. lately, it consists of writing, anime and son yejin. playlist summary — though he’s only really influenced by drake’s albums, sometimes gyujeong finds himself in a predicament when he listens to the same track on and on again. these songs give him some sort of inspiration of the music he’d want to create. yet, it becomes thwarted by the reminder that when given the musical freedom, he’s only left to make shitty ultraviolet edm beats. despite this, he continues to curate playlists for the sake of getting to it later, using it as fuel for himself to someday make better music than his current situation. this playlist is a mixed bag of genre as gyujeong’s been here and there with what inspires him. wc — 552
1. drake — best i ever had 2. drake — hours in silence 3. bach — air on the g string 4. beethoven — romance no. 2 in f major 5. chopin — waltz op 69 no 2 6. 성우정아 — 상상 / sungwoojunga — beyond my dreams 7. polaris — dynamite 8. 원티드 — 외로운 사람들을 위한 노래 / wanted — heal me 9. 김광석 — 너무 깊이 생각하지마 / kim kwang seok — don’t think too deeply 10. shwayze — corona and lime
yeah, gyu’s a bit weird in what inspires him this winter — nothing is really coherent. and that’s the gist of his inspiration — incoherencies, and that’s what he’s just drawn to
classical music — gyujeong has a background in classical music because he used to go to piano hakwon everyday as a child. his mother thought it was mandatory that all her children learn how to play the piano, and turns out, gyujeong was quite good at it. he was the best out of his siblings, and he learned pretty quickly. now, after being in the industry for so long, he strayed away from it but somehow he landed on the weird side of youtube at 3am where it led him to a few bach and beethoven pieces, so that’s now what plays as his background music instead of his guilty pleasure (600 lbs life).
drake — everyone can shit on drake all they want, but gyujeong will defend drake till the very end. he doesn’t know why he vibes with drake so much (well, probably because he’s a lonely loser that doesn’t know anything), but he does. drake releases a new album? gyujeong streams it along with streaming old drake songs. the old love songs that made drake a meme? those are gyujeong’s favorite and he’s having fun with the meme-factor of it
dynamite — he thinks this song is hilarious. from the lyrics to how it was marketed, he thinks it’s funny. feels bad for polaris, but also finds it intriguing how a song can elicit so much laughter from him. because of that, it’s his inspiration to write beyond sad songs and start to write comical humor
the other songs are just classics that give him a taste of nostalgia for an era he never lived in. they’re more superficial inspirations? so, he doesn’t put that much thought beyond that the sounds were so raw back then, the mastering wasn’t as pristine, yet they stay true to the test of time. longevity — he wants that.
anime — he’s always inspired by anime, but lately it’s been a lot of makoto shinkai movies. he hasn’t been watching series, but been watching straight up romance anime movies because it makes him cry, and he enjoys living vicariously within a fictional world. it swallows him whole and he considers it a profound experience everyone should try
writing — he’s never been a journaler because he finds the concept annoying. writing feels like a chore, but he finds that when he scribbles down one or two thoughts he had in the day or what he did that day, it pieces together a familiarity for when he goes back. plus, writing one or two thoughts doesn’t consist of a page and fits his lazy ass <3
son yejin — in addition to makoto shinkai movies, gyujeong’s been watching a lot of old son yejin movies and dramas. he’s named her his ideal type once or twice, with the explanation: he hasn’t seen anyone more beautiful when they cry and he likes dog faces more than cat faces. he likes to pretend he’s the co-star in whatever she’s starring in, and try to write songs that paint a picture to her tears. this is SO lame, i know. but since he’s been in a sadder mood lately, he writes break up songs about son yejin instead of thinking about his ex : )

tsurune
My feelings on this one are a bit mixed. I generally really like the world of Tsurune. Super saturated bright colors, detailed lighting, and even little details like the generally realistic style combined with some characters having odd hair or eye colors, it's a really great aesthetic like you'd expect from KyoAni. As far as animation goes, well for a show where the character art is this detailed it seems impossible for it to move well, but there's plenty of good stuff even if the acting is more on the understated side. I couldn't really bring myself to care too much about the characters, even if I was at first shocked at how well the cute girls design philosophy of KyoAni could create so many cute boys.
The bit of the story I enjoyed the most was the episode focused on Seiya, which I thought had the most interesting direction of any episode, too, though in retrospect the relative suddenness of his crisis is indicative of the show's approach to drama. After that comes the storyline of Masaki in the car crash. I felt it was all a bit silly and kind of lent the last arc of the show this really strange confused tone, and when that transitioned to full-blown infighting and drama I realized how little I care for the way these moments are written. In particular, a lot of the misunderstandings and the reconciliations that follow feel very autopilot and in a way that doesn't even really make sense (why would Kaito think Minato trying to disrespect Masaki, this late in the story? Why would this kind of misunderstanding even happen?) And all that was just leading up to apparently a big breakthrough in the characters' relationships, where they call each other by their first names and point out the fact that they're doing so. There's a lot of stuff like this, where big character moments are usually forecasted in advance in an interesting way, but they bubble up and boil over very suddenly, and aren't allowed to just happen but instead are spelled out with over-baked platitudes that just kind of made me roll my eyes (Seiya: I'm not chasing Minato anymore, I'm walking with him). I guess there's a reason I struggled to remember any character's name.
The real star of this show is the music, which elevates a lot of these very generic YA moments and make them feel much more believable. There's some really sparkly pianos, lush strings, really everything you would want for a show that looks so bright, green, and vivid. Overall the OST lent a certain gravity to the show that I feel it needed. I quite like the OP and ED as well. There's also the bow shots themselves, which are great throughout, in the last few episodes become this tasty little nugget of an audiovisual experience, starting with the tsurune, the quick flight through the air, and then hitting the mark with a sparkly sound effect. I can sort of understand the whole point of this show just from these last few scenes.
Overall, as far as sports anime go I think the actual things I usually come to this genre for are mediocre here, but there are other strengths. Another thing I didn't mention is how gay it can be, which I like too, and it goes farther than the average male sports anime which can already be pretty damn homoerotic. There's a certain...complicity? in the character relationships that adds this extra layer of tension, especially Shu and Minato, where it's very hard to believe they aren't both at least somewhat aware of their feelings for each other, but also Minato and Seiya and even Minato and Masaki to some extent (both of those are one sided, I think, and the latter not that serious). Even if it's the safest KyoAni anime of the 2010s I've seen, the show is very polished and has a coherent aesthetic. I'm truthfully on the fence about season 2. The characters haven't endeared themselves to me, and I don't see anywhere interesting the story can really go now. That said, I did see some clips on Twitter of the bow scenes and.damn it, here we go again.

thanks!! :)
1. Did you like DW as a child? i didn’t see any until i was 12, and only really got into it about a year later. i didn’t grow up in the uk and we couldn’t get doctor who where we lived, so that’s one of the only reasons i wished i had always lived here
18. Best Doctor monologue? ooooh. the one that stuck with me the most was the one from The Waters of Mars. ‘time lord victorious’ and all that. i love that episode & seeing the darker side of him was very interesting - love some conflicted morals in my protagonists!! idk if it was the one i enjoyed the most, but the whole episode was so surreal and creepy that it’s the one i remember the clearest.
33. Which episodes do you skip? :| i'm so sorry i skipped a few 12 episodes with clara, based on reviews from my friend, because i wanted to catch up to get to bill. and also.. clara isn’t my favourite. but i love 12 so i should go back and watch them at some point. also that one 11 christmas special with the trees that got very boring. other than those, none!
#thank you for the ask!#it's very late so i ope this is coherent#*hope#see#that's what i mean#i can't type past midnight#asksk#chimera5xg

the aggressiveness of that last post on political history and war history is not sitting right with me so here goes:
while i do agree with the overall point that things cannot be studied in a vacuum (and this becomes a more relevant topic everyday, considering that the way we perceive history and its related areas is largely influenced by the intense specialization of academic research) i feel it's wrong to assume that this is just about people consciously ignoring the social aspects of cultural and technological evolution ! we must look at the bigger picture here:
the average person's knowledge of history will come solely from what is learned in school, with some added vague information given by historical movies. sadly the western school system isn't built to provide an intersectional deep understanding of history, but rather to ensure that the average citizen will have a base knowledge in a multitude of areas so that he may proceed to the work market and 'be of use' to society.
this makes the teaching of history feel very clinical, distant and almost list-like. we're quickly taught about how humans came to be and how their technology developed so we can speedily reach the greeks and romans, and, from that point on everything is set out to learn about the people in power, usually families of royal bloodlines. we learn all about their genealogical trees, their marriages, their conflicts for territories in distant lands. we only learn about a select number of relevant uprisings, and usually you get centuries worth of social and cultural unrest summarized in a couple of paragraphs. to sum it up: everything becomes about data rather than people! dates, locations and the upper social hierarchy.
this creates a barrier for empathy and self-recognition between the curious student and the thousands of people who walked the land before them. at most it may create a misguided pride over the nebulous deeds of their birth nations.
which brings me to my next point! the social context of the initial post!
most of the userbase in this site is based in the US or in other english speaking countries, which more often than not means that they come from historically colonial power nations.
and it has to be said that the way that history is taught and perceived in a former ostracized or colonized country may be wildly different from the way its taught in the colonizer country. (can we really expect to see colonial history being taught in the same way in brazil and in portugal, for example?)
even though in the past centuries up until this day the voices of marginalized people are still consistently erased!! we have to realize how lucky we are to be in an age where information is easily accessible to a wide audience! but we also need to acknowledge that the information and work that these people put out there is not placed in the front row for others to access and still needs to be searched for; people need to know what to search for!
and this just isn't a tool given to students who study history in the school system, if you're only taught about major wars and political events How are you supposed to know that things like textiles or food are heavily intertwined with those very wars??
I'd much rather some kid on tumblr interested in general textiles with little knowledge of history realizing by chance from a random post that that lovely gown they saw on the museum connects heavily to the sociopolitical context it lived in (and subsequently falling into a nice historical research rabbithole) than to have some kid heavily aware of all of the world's major wars and battles but thinking that's all there is to human history
to wrap it all up since its 3h00 here we need to focus on bringing radical changes to how history is approached within a school setting rather than doing a witch hunt on tumblr kids and teens who were failed by said system
because YES we are witnessing a terrifying period of social unrest and rise of far-right parties that has been shown to bring terrible results repeatedly throughout history!! but the solution is not to rant and publicly drag people but rather to do our best to take direct action and share resources and information so we can fight this as a unified global community
#i could do another full rant on how convenient it is for the far right to have blissfully unaware apolitical citizens#and how historically the people they try to keep uneducated and the people who are marginalized intersect almost completely#but its so late and i probably am not very coherent at this hour#h#political history#dont even know how to tag this#delete later?#guess im being a tad contradictory by saying we shouldn't rant as a wrap up to a big rant lol#also fr op overall comes from a rightful place and its understandable that they'd be completely upset about how unaware ppl are??#specially if you're from a marginalized community! seeing people removing themselves and history from any sociopolitical connotations is#really harmful and exhausting

One Piece pieces of magical realism
I've had a hard time thinking of stuff for OP lately and I try to make most of the stuff I post for that particular fandom very special because it's very special to me. So since I can't get something satisfying that's also a single, coherent idea.. have some of my ramblings I like to think of when I imagine how amazing the one piece world could be.
I like to think...
• That the waves roll into animals, like
Horses galloping
Wolves running
A roll like a snake flaring itself up
The flick of a fox tail
• Billowing sails turn into clouds if they get blown away.
• At night the sky is lined with latitude and longitude lines.
• The water is greens one day, like pine needles and snake scales
Blues like the sky and robins eggs
Browns like dust and earth
• That if you find the corner of a wave you can pull off the foam like a length of lace.
• There are spirits on ships, they hop on and off at different islands, the urge to breath new air still strong in empty lungs.
• Maps can and will change their lines on you if you make them mad.
• The wind tells you secrets if you listen hard enough.
• That the places with no wind or wave are where they got into a fight and now neither of them like to go there.
• The sun dips past the horizon and reflects on the water even as the moon creeps up the night sky.
Or maybe something like...
Brook's bones are covered in thin frost with lace like designs and they melt in one rush like spilled water.
The smoke from Sanji's cigarette snarls and howls at the spirits that billow like blown snow from Zoro's blades.
Robin sips teas from a cup cracked and sealed with gold. There's always petals caught in her hair.
The maps pull at Nami's hair in black lines like spider legs to get her attention and she lectures them on the proper way to lay themselves on cream parchment.
Wind runs through Franky like windchimes or old water mills. The gears turn and sing back, the earth adores it's metal child.
Chopper antlers are soft with felt and they show bone white when he sheds them. His fur smells like summer even on winter nights.
Usopp shoots nets at the stars and pulls down fireflies, they bump around the laterns until dawn and the only thing left of them are small flowers.
Or how it might feel to be standing on a ship...
There's wood under your feet and the sounds it makes as you walk is like rumbling thunder. There's music on the air in-between the kisses of wind
Lightening flashes thread thin and crackles out like ice breaking, the clouds are all outlines in platinum. It's a spiders web catching thunder and clouds and rain.
The air is sticky with summer heat and your skin is finally cooling off, the warmth of the sun being drawn out of your skin by the breeze
The rain is warm and smells sweet. You can't even feel it on your skin with how similar the temperature is. The wood soaks it up until it's full and it's starts pooling on top, staining the wood a gold color.
The spider flicks it's web again and the world is black and white for a moment. Everything's silent except for the endless falling of rain.
You open your mouth and you can taste the sky on your tongue.

I'm going to start this off by apologizing for how very poorly written this is going to be as it is late where I am + I'm not in the most coherent of speaking modes rn, but as a sorta response I guess to us accidentally letting a very ableist ask through, especially with no tws even I would like to apologize on behalf of all the mods. That was a shit thing to do + we probably should've been more careful.
But also, and I don't mean this as an excuse or anything, us mods aren't the ops of the post nor are we all knowing beings. Well technically the blogs is only run by like 5 of us due to the submission nature of nd culture it's kinda more then that in a way. As mods it's our responsibility to try to make this as safe a place as possible but also we don't know everything so we're going to fuck up sometimes. It sucks + I wish it wouldn't happen but it has + it probably will again. Please do (gently) inform us of when we fuck up or forget a tag that should have been on a post, but also please try to remember that we might not have even been aware of the problems to begin with because of our limited knowledge. ~mod emri
#not nd culture#Mod Emri#again I really apologize for how long and not well written this is but it's really late for me so I have vry little energy right now#I had more I wanted to say I think + I know this is proper shit but this will have to do for now#tw.swearing#ableism.ment

OKAY LISTEN
LISTEN
I KNOW I'M LATE TO THE PARTY ON THIS POST BUT I WAS JUST SCREAMING ABOUT THIS A WEEK OR SO AGO AND
Okay, I'm going to like... go on a short bit of excursion here that I personally found interesting with this, before I get to my main point because i'm nothing if not overly-wordy:
The triad of "thesis, antisthesis and synthesis" is… not even actually a Hegelian concept, Hegel himself (while actually attributing it to Kant in the Preface of The Phaenomenlogy of the Mind) calls it a "lifeless schema" and describes it as something "soulless" and something that "artificially pre-scribes the philosophical thought" The attribution to Hegel happened over the years, mainly through Karl Marx.
Akechi brings up the thesis (a statement or concept), the antithesis (a negation thereof), but leaves out the synthesis (the reconciliation of the two, as reviously mentioned by OP). I think this is very interesting, personally:
He knows a push-and-pull of ideas needs to happen, but he does not acknowledge the eventual reconciliation needed. He doesn't think there's anything but either of them winning; It's only the thesis or the anti thesis that emerge in the end, the idea of synthesis, of a combined, new way of moving forward is categorically excluded. It also speaks to his unwillingness to compromise, it's either his way, or going down fighting.
If we now consider Hegel's own idea of this triad as something that artificially prescribes a process, this kind of takes on the character of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Akechi thinking of Akira as the Antithesis to his Thesis sets a course for their rivalry, and his lack of belief in the possibility of synthesis sets him on the path of refusal to compromise his way until it's too late.
I think this particular quote already tells us so much about Akechi's thought process and I've been turning it over in my head tenfold, adding a more coherent version of that on here. I hope that was okay, OP!
Getting emotional over the "To paraphrase Hegel, advancement cannot occur without both thesis and antithesis" line from Akechi BECAUSE
"Truth is found neither in the thesis nor the antithesis, but in an emergent synthesis which reconciles the two"
So obviously, Akechi = Thesis, Akira = Antithesis and with their combined justices the Truth (Synthesis) can be found
They're parallels, different sides of the same coin and can't exist without the other or else True Justice would be a lie without the other to challenge their beliefs
YES I KNOW THIS IS VERY OBVIOUS ITS 1 AM HERE AND IM VERY GAY
#ramblings of a philosophy major#shoutout to my uni and jstor for letting me read philosophical journal articles for my silly little video game thoughts#anyways the point is this sent me down a reasearch rabbit hole a few weeks ago bc i kinda hated reading hegel and needed a brush-up#his writing style is annoying#my current MO in all my philosophy classes is waiting to find something related to persona and scream and point at it#yesterday it was Quine#ANYWAYS#i'm shutting up now#akeshu#p5

Finished the Raven cycle and I had a lot of thoughts but I actually can’t remember anything that happened apart from very specific scenes???? Also I am very heavily in favour of Gansey as he is definitely my absolute favourite but the other two are quite horrible to him for a lot of the book considering 9/10 times he’s genuinely trying to help and they are aware he’s trying to help and doesn’t mean to flash the cash and I just ???? Don’t get it?? Maybe cos I am a fully developed woman in her late 20s and I would just not let someone I care about speak to me like they do sometimes no matter how upset you are, especially if I’m trying to help you and the issue isn’t my fault to start with 😂 or maybe because I relate a lot to Gansey with feeling like my friends don’t need me like I need them so maybe I’m just projecting hahahaha
Adam especially is horrible to Gansey quite a few times where I just thought he was way out of line, even including when eventually Gansey had enough and snapped at him and was horrible back and Adam was all FUCK YOU and left the car and I feel awful for thinking it but the entire time I was like ?? So you don’t like being treated this way but you treat Gansey like this a LOT especially at the start ?? Hmm. I realise this is part of adams development, and he grew on me a lot as the series progressed but in the first two books especially I couldn’t stand him 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Also so much stuff got confusing and was so fast and unexplained or like just resolved so quickly that the pacing felt a bit wild, idk how to articulate this brain dump I’m having hahahahah
On the flip side though I genuinely loved this pure portrayal of platonic love between the gangsey, especially the three main boys and their love for each other and willingness to do anything and follow each other anywhere, because I LOVE found family stories and this one satisfied that for me!!! They’re all in love!!! Yes!!!!! The scene when Gansey and ronan went to the trial made me want to shriek I was so happy, wish it hadn’t ended so abruptly I’d have loved to have read more of that,
Bluesey was well developed too imo, the secret calls, that ONE SCENE WHERE HE HOLDS HER HAND BRIEFLY IN THE SIDE of THE PIG omg!!!!!!!! The toga party!!! Just ahh I love them, ronan and Adam were developed well too, genuinely enjoyed both couple arcs neither felt forced or ingenuine or too plot devicey (although ofc bluesey is a huge main plot point)
Henry was,,,,a total babe but like didn’t feel necessary to the plot at all ngl idk if anyone else feels that way, love him to pieces but??? He felt inserted for no reason really
Sad about Noah’s ending but enjoyed his friendship with ronan the most I think
Also idk how I feel about ronan being literally so OP that everything in the book ends up being what he created idk, when I started I kinda hoping it was the actual plot was this quest for glendower but I did feel it seems to get sidetracked WAYYYY more into the dream stuff, tho ig it did come back around to the king eventually… haha oh well
Anyway omg I’ve been rambling about nothing for ages lmaoooooo
I think in essence it’s like,, could this have been written more coherently and consistently plot wise, yes probably, would I die for the gangsey and reread this series till I die, also yes 😭😂😂😂😂😂😂 am I biased to Gansey and blind to any of his flaws, also yes probably hahahahahahahaha

Okay now that everyone has calmed down over ingo’s hairline dhgjkfnh (Also this post got a little longer than expected so I’m just gonna put a read more if you want to see me complain about how dumb it is that Ingo’s been in Hisui for a decade dshjkfh)
I refuse to believe he is pushing 50 dshgkjndfh Like this isn’t even a “ooooooooo my fave is ooooooooold big sad” thing like no. If we’re using the same source I just refuse to believe that he’s been in Hisui for a decade lmao dsghjkfh. Like I literally had a whole conversation with a friend a week ago about how Ingo was not in Hisui for a decade BUT wouldn’t it be a morbidly funny setup for this joke I’m about to make dshgjkfh.
Like Ingo and Emmet being in their 30′s? in Black and white??? Because pushing 50 implies late 40′s and if we’re going off of he’s been in Hisui for a decade then he would be in his 30′s in Black and White. (But like the timeline is iffy so I could be very wrong on that anyways i won’t stop you from believing that they’re in their 20′s or something if it means that much to you but sdhgjkfndh idk i just don’t see it that way personally). That’s fine like I do not care about that at all. And the fact that a character being older than initially thought has like. become a problem for some people is just...there’s a lot to unpack there.
Anyways I haven’t gotten through much of Ingo’s stuff yet in PLA yet so please forgive me if I’m wrong but like. The conversation you have with Ingo in the tunnels when he’s talking about faint memories he’s recalling?? It’s like. Heavily implied this is his first time remembering Emmet and I REFUSE to believe that took a decade dhgkjfhndfdjknfdh. I also want to mention because *had an ace attorney hyperfixation so cares about small details like this* according to Japanese and New York State law (Unova is based on New York State so), in that amount of time Ingo would be considered dead which is. MMMMMMMMMMM. Anyways this post isn’t me trying to disprove it it is me dying inside because Ingo being gone for a decade is bad and hurts and i don’t like it :-).
I’m also just gonna leave this post on this note: I believe the book that the image is from just released in Japan today so we don’t actually know what the page looks like (Op is an artist and could have edited it and though I don’t think that’s the case i want to mention that it’s very much a possibility because pokemon hoaxes are wild), We can’t even see the full page so we’re probably missing some context, The page is in Japanese and just because one person says that it translates to something it does not mean that that’s actually what it says, and finally: as someone who wants to go into concept art and owns a couple art books: I do just want to say concepts that are in the art books don’t always mean that they’re canon in the final product. We don’t know if there’s a note on the next page or the top of this page that says anything about some details on the page not being included in the final product because that’s common in art books, and we don’t know what stage of production this art is from?? It could be a character reference sheet, it could be concept art, it could be both! Anyways because I’m bad at explaining my own points (also this post is more just me writing down thoughts i just woke up i doubt it’s coherent at all dshgjkfh) I’m just gonna slap this screenshot from discord on the bottom here
Anyways yeah dghjkfh sorry this post is so long lmao i am... ✨rambling✨
Anyways my canon now: Ingo got home within 5 years MAX

random stuff i like about tma
that time when daisy is pointing a gun at jon and jon just loses all coherence. there’s a gun in his face and he trips incessantly over his words and can’t keep it together and freaks out. as someone who’s been held at gunpoint, i really appreciate that accuracy. like, for real, Our Hero is threatened with a gun and he’s just a mess.
our show starts with two main characters as cops and by the end they aren’t cops anymore. [austin walker voice] are you a cop? well don’t be. stop being a cop.
martin blackwood at the start of the show is fairly timid but is prone to outbursts dragging people, and i loved him back then, but his arc to the main plot driver of the show and the character with the most agency was /chef’s kiss
basira’s tactic of dealing with being a hostage is reading a bunch of esoteric and occult books and i think that’s very sexy of her
in late S3 and into S4 the sheer amount of anger Melanie was displaying did legitimately come across as strange, like especially her final pre-Unknowing statement to Jon was just weirdly aggressive to the wrong people.............................. and it turns out that was literally the point, it should have wigged me out, and she was possessed by an evil ghost bullet fueling her rage. wow? wow! okay!
in MAG151 “Big Picture” Martin tells a murderous avatar of the Vast to “sit down” and said Avatar’s reaction is to flirt even harder with Martin, I just admire Simon a lot in that moment.
Melanie does sync claps when doing statements and its the most adorable thing in the show, she does sync claps!!!!
“just because something hurts doesn’t mean its helpful” is fucking all time and so is georgie barker
in S3 i thought there was no path to me liking daisy as a character, just none, but then daisy and jon in the coffin and daisy wanting to just be around people and my heart melted. excellent writing, excellent acting.
no one in this show is straight and i like it. give the gays what they want (queer genre fiction).
“how do you feel about rollercoasters.” “eh, neutral.” “oh you’re no fun.” oh my goddddddddddddd
eta: lol someone in the tags asked “op r u okay” about the gun thing. i was involved in an armed robbery at my job. it sucked. jonny sims’ portrayal of someone looking at a gun pointed at them is very good. that’s all. (context: i’m american, guns are a Thing here XD)
