Happy Friday! Here are the five things you won’t want to miss in Memphis this weekend, plus a few extras. Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and there are events going on through the weekend. See the MLK Day Guide here. Photo by Logan Young / Memphis Tourism But first, be sure you didn’t miss anything on the blog recently: – 11 Ways To Observe MLK Day In Memphis – Update Happy Hour Guide: Big List, By Neighborhood, By Day of the Week – 200+ Things To Do In January In Memphis – Science of Beer at the Pink Palace 2020 (sold out) – DreamFest Weekend 9 Music Fest – Beale Street Music Fest 2020 Lineup – 2020 Memphis Festival List – Is The Downtown Food Hall Actually A Thing Now? – Vegan/Vegetarian Memphis Restaurant Guide OK, here’s your weekend guide! 1. Roald Dahl’s Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, Orpheum Theatre, Friday – Sunday, $25 – $125, older kids OK The story of a deranged chocolatier who terrorizes kids in a magical factory: it’s timeless! See your favorite songs from the movie based on the book come to life in creative and updated ways. There’s no Johnny Depp in sight! It was so unique, creative, and crazy that I left the theater wide-eyed. Bring your sense of humor and enjoy the ultra- talented cast. Check out my backstage tour here. 2. DreamFest Weekend 9, 1884 Lounge/Slim House / Dutchland, Friday – Sunday, 7 p.m. nightly, $10 per night, 18 and up  Three nights of Memphis music featuring local R&B, hip hop, jazz-infused soul, and artists and more. Friday night is a concert featuring a dozen local artists and DJs, Saturday is more live music in Soulsville. Sunday is an industry networking event. Read 5 reasons you should go here. 3. MLK Arts Unite, New Ballet Ensemble (2157 York Ave. behind Memphis Made), Saturday, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., free, all ages/kid-friendly New Ballet Ensemble hosts their annual MLK Arts Unite fest on Saturday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Take part in dance and music workshops, enjoy food from Just Wraps and Mempops, and bring donations of winter clothes for the Mariposas Collective. 4. Dolly Parton Birthday Party, Wiseacre Brewing, Saturday, 1 p.m. – 10 p.m., all ages, free to enter In honor of Miss Dolly’s birthday, the brewery will release two special beers, Calculator Doppelbock and Cherry Beach Within Reach.
