prefacing this with saying: I LOVE INANIMATE INSANITY!!!!!! inanimate insanity is my favourite show in the world and every episode leaves me full of joy and excitement. i adore criticizing it not out of hatred but out of genuine love. i enjoy every single episode i watch.

however, i find that iii19 has been the worst episode so far. it has gotten me the least hyped out of any episode in the series, which is saying a lot because i bounce off the walls at every episode no matter how much i end up criticizing it later. there are. so many problems i have with it. im gonna try and organize them the best i can, though i'll probably(?) edit this post later to insert anything i missed or forgot to say.

starting off positively: oj!!!! personally i am so glad he didn't talk in this episode. i was terrified of the idea of him having a new va. the spin was adorable, i loved his signature thumbs ups, and every time i saw him i squealed with delight. him voting for balloon also made me really happy! despite the grudge he's had against him for so long, he still sticks with him on this part. even after laughing at his death the episode before that

in general all the seasonwunners voted for balloon!! which makes me happy!!! paintbrush, nickel, balloon, and oj have all been there for the very beginning of season 1, three of them being there for every season. i love the inherent connection the contestants from season 1 have with each other. they've been together since inanimate insanity began and they're there for the end of season 3 too. very sweet.

onto more negative stuff! I CANNOT FUCKING BELIEVE WHAT THEY DID WITH SILVER SPOON AND CANDLEEE they set up something crazy in the last episode and then did NOTHING with it!!! they had silver spoon beat candle unconscious the second she said something that wasn't coddling him like the manchild he is and she STILL voted for him. where even was she for half of the episode?? they just left her lifeless corpse on the ground in iii18 and then she eventually got up in this episode and just. went back to the competition??? dogshit writing

okay now i wanna talk about cabby. I Don't Like Cabby Anymore. so from the very beginning i have loved cabby. she was extremely similar to me in fact! i have really bad memory issues and i tend to keep files on people and on things that i might forget about, as well as just to organize my thoughts and ideas. i loved her confidence, obsession with knowledge, and analytical personality at the start. i was pretty upset when the characters (mostly test tube lmao) started relentlessly bullying her, and i HATE the whole thing in spring on the breakfast where they try to demonize her files. it was kind of annoying when they tried to remedy it really quickly after that because it was clearly because of the backlash, but i was glad they at least tried to fix it. however, over the course of the series, she just felt like she was... becoming sadder? pitiful, honestly? she went from an awesome smart character who loved taking notes on people's behaviour and using that information to get better at the game into some kind of Sad Little Bullied Victim. she doesn't even feel like a character anymore to me, just a mouthpiece for the creators to write dramatic "cathartic" speeches through to prove they're Definitely Not Ableist. also what was the deal with her parents lmao they never brought that up again

aaaand this episode was generally written really badly. super fucking corny for one. they literally had a little dance party at the end like people make jokes about for stereotypical Kids' Shows. but my issue is more with like... the weird super fast character development? and the way they wrapped everything up as quickly as possible? something that bothered me was the tonal whiplash between zuwie voicing springy super hysterically and dramatically and then springy being fully redeemed within like the next 5 minutes and dying for mephone. Why did they even die for mephone. like as a character why would he of all people die for mephone. thats so fucking stupid. the rest of the voice acting felt completely different from springy's as well so it just made the effect worse. everyone's lines were really corny and felt so manufactured, like they would pull characters to mephone's side (losing my mind over all the contestants rooting for mephone like cmon man that guy sucks i just know oj at least would want him dead) with a short Cathartic Speech and everything would be fixed and lovely and peachy keen. its just painful to watch. everything feels really weirdly disjointed and badly put together, the flow is awful, the "danger" doesn't feel like there's any suspense to it at all, and every character gets fully redeemed for no good reason. even walkie talkie chats casually with mephone at the end as if they're good friends after they were HYSTERICALLY INSISTING ON MURDERING HIM? AND MAKING HIM WATCH HIS OWN DEATH?? idk if this will get explained in s2 but we still don't know who walkie talkie is, what their motive is, WHY they got redeemed, etc. we know nothing about them. and even if it will be explained later, i think it's shitty writing that NOTHING was explained in this season.

- SO FUCKING GLAD THEY DIDN'T BRING HOTEL OJ INTO THIS I WOULD'VE CRIED IF THEY PUT SEASON 3 CHARACTERS INTO HOTEL OJ OR MADE IT ALL SLEEK AND S3 STYLE

- the "you can do this" thing at the end was fucking stupid man that was so corny (btw corny isn't always bad but jesus christ... this episode was just awful with it)

She’s just a very fun nerd girl character with a surprising amount of depth! A lot of the characters in ttp for kind of in their stereotypes but then diverge and expand out more than you expect, while also having pretty clear character arcs and self-consistent logic.

She basically has no moral compass and it’s kind of amazing. I’ve talked about it before but she genuinely seems to want to have the rapist guy castrated, and is willing to experiment on her friend/acquaintance’s corpse with the guy that (by proxy) shot her and killed her friends with no objections whatsoever. Also, canonically a messy eater! Love that for her

She gets sidelined a lot :( ttp tends to treat things as though they don’t exist when not immediately plot relevant, and she just kind of isn’t there when not necessary, even though she’s one of the most important friendly characters that isn’t an immediate protagonist. as a whole here's what i think

magnus is the kind of guy who loves any kind of animal (except maybe like mosquitoes) and considers them all baby in his head. however he is respectful of wildlife and stuff because he was also raised in javanese society in a time where humans interacted with wild animals way more than they do today, so he's not stupid

but just like there's no animal he doesn't like? he's not really a dog person but it's less that he doesn't like dogs and more that he knows a dog isn't the most suitable kind of pet for him. doesn't mean he can't be happy and pet one when he sees it tho

he totally has a soft spot for reptiles. like again THE WAY HE TALKED TO THAT SNAKE. i think magnus totally does the thing many marginalized ppl do where he just loves pets that are usually considered weird and that are sort of "outcasts" in that sense. so like he loves snakes, iguanas, chameleons and other animals like that, even tho his favorites will of course always be cats

at first magnus felt kind of weird/guilty (?) about his connection to cats because, you know, cat eyes, it felt like he liked cats because of his demonic side and it made him anxious to think that it might be just asmodeus' heritage because he doesn't want that. but over time it just became clear to him that cats are amazing animals and there is nothing bad, evil, abusive, or demonic about them or the way magnus feels about them

magnus is totally the kind of guy who doesn't have, like.... Official Pets but has a lot of unofficial ones. i know this is basically canon since we've seen how he basically has a bunch of street cats that come and go through the loft but it's still a detail i like a lot. like he doesn't want to Own Them and force them to be with him, he wants them to come and go as they please but he also wants them to have a home and shelter, you know? i love that cuz thatd be my ideal way of having pets (but cats are an invasive species where i live so i cant rlly do that, rip). he just sees them as like creatures with agency and wants them to be able to make their own choices

related to that, i think magnus' magic means the way he perceives animals is different. like he can't Speak To Animals or anything of the sort but animals have like... energy and auras just like humans and i think the fact that he can perceive that physically means he sees them as people a lot more than other humans do. that is probably enhanced by the cultural differences, since the strict division between animals and humans is a VERY modern western thing, but idk the details about javanese culture's views on that (and it would depend a lot on his religion and stuff like that anyway since javanese society, especially in jakarta, was so diverse)

anyway my point is that he perceives animals as beings with agency, feelings, wants, dreams, anguishes and etc more than most because he can kind of feel that energy and knows it's just the same as a human's. so it's weird for him to have a kind of domestication relationship where he keeps an animal in his home and dictates where they go (and when) and stuff like that. they are people to him

however he does have names for them all and he most definitely knows which are which and how are they doing. he doesn't really keep tabs exactly but he pays attention, you know? also if he happens to come by a rescued animal who cant live in the streets/wild for whatever reason, he most definitely will adopt them. it helped him a lot through the times when he felt loneliest (like after he broke up with camille and in twi)

this is gratuitous and not rlly a headcanon but you know that scene in tgp where eleanor has a whole ass lizard on her head? that is my absolute dream and therefore i just want to take a moment to imagine magnus with a lizard a real one, not lorenzo on top of his head or shoulder. bonus points if hes acting like it's the most normal thing in the world and whenever someone is like "magnus... there is a lizard... on your head" hes just like "i know right! his name is Coldskin Warmheart and he likes to be tall" and thinks it's the coolest thing even if it messes up his hair

One time, in my senior year of highschool, we were all pretty fucking stressed in this AP course so the teacher wanted us to lie on the ground and listen to a meditative video n shit. I'm late but like imagine going on a corny ass Valentine's day date with Caleb.

He bribed the Entity to get him some fancy liquor and chocolates/flowers/stuffed animals (depending on whatever you'd prefer) and just spoiling the shit out of his S/O while laying on the saloon roof and just admiring the sunset.

(For a more comedic factor, one of the vultures tries snatching one of your chcolates and it results in Caleb arguing with a bird while you just sit there wheezing like an asthmatic donkey thanks to this dumbass)

If you manage to get him anything he'd absolutely melt, but he's too much of a tough guy to show it and blah blah blah testosterone and manliness and men stuff and yadda yadda

If it wasn't something edible, he'd cherish it and would straight up torture anyone who comments on it negatively or, even worse, ruins it. If you want him to be more open on how much he loves it, just smother him in kisses (make sure you smooch the scars too) and talk about all the things you love about him and he'll suddenly become a giant puppy.

The whole date just consists of you two relaxing in each other's arms and being the stereotypical shamelessly mushy couple that everyone for some reason hate being around, but try not to comment on it too much or he'll get pouty.

PREMISE

flashback to 6-8 years ago (because the OP here can’t remember lol): it’s desk selection day in qiao yi’s classroom! a very dramatic moment for all high schoolers, qia yi has to select who she sits next to. because she’s at the bottom of the class ranking, she gets last pick, which essentially narrows down her choices to that creepy kid who writes love poetry to every female student in the class and yan mo, the scary genius student who has placed 1st in their class since...forever.

taking a gamble, qiao yi goes with yan mo. yan mo eventually agrees to tutoring qiao yi outside of class and they become friends. then...friends? if you know what i mean. it’s very sweet and cute. only problem is that yan mo is both a genius and from a Family of Means, and so is already planning on attending cambridge (yeah, fucking cambridge) after graduation. not wanting to separate, yan mo asks qiao yi to come with him and she agrees to study hard so she can get accepted to a university in the UK, too.

but then, well, bad shit happened. 

qiao yi ended up staying in their home town, yan mo left for cambridge, and we got two v heartbroken teenagers on our hands.

4 years later, yan mo returns after studying in the uk, and by chance they end up bumping into each other. angry because qiao yi hurt him, yan mo puts up an ALOOF AND COLD AND I DONT CARE AT ALL front that she sadly buys. but after he leaves for the big city to pursue a business opportunity, qiao yi harnesses some amazing big dick energy to go after him, in a sort of inverse DONT LET HER GET ON THAT PLANE! move. very abba. 

the plot bounces between their (and their friends’) high school years, their lives as reunited adults, and their future lives as married folks. i love it very, very much.

MAIN CHARACTERS

zhao qiao yi

as a high schooler, qiao yi was a quiet girl with low self-esteem, who consistently ranked at the bottom of her class and was always attempting to retreat into her school tracksuit like a turtle. despite this, qiao yi has some solid friends and is always kind if somewhat shy or uncomfortable in certain situations. as a adult, qiao yi works as a television producer and is clearly more confident. 

she buys truly awful graphic t-shirts as thank you gifts that one feels obligated to wear. falls for scams easily. will help you fold 1000 paper stars for your boyfriend even if she hates your boyfriend because she’s ride or die like that. look at how cute she is no one is allowed to be mean to someone as cute as this.

yan mo / “frank”

if you liked se hee in because this is my first life, you’re in luck because here is a 10% angrier version. at first, yan mo seems cold, aloof, snobbish, pretentious, arrogant...

okay, but he’s ALSO got a lot of feelings and will help people out. well, at the start of the show, he’ll help two people out. but that expands to like 10. so, progress! in high school, he falls for qiao yi in the typical Cannot Spit It Out fashion, buying her sentimental cans of coke, PUTTING IN ONE EARBUD SO SHE CAN LISTEN TO THE BEATLES WITH HIM, feeling Weird about her tying his tie, and single-handedly ruining a for-profit afterschool tutoring business in about 30 seconds, because they weren’t teaching qiao yi anything, and he knew he could do it better. tbh he completely fucking destroys a lot of things and people in under a minute. #ruthless

he’s very protective of qiao yi and rather than explain it, here is a clip from the special episode where yan mo confronts another student who left a love confession meant for qiao yi in his desk by mistake (subtitles have to be selected under settings, but it’s subbed in english):

zhao guan chao

zhao qiao yi’s twin brother, who has always placed 2nd in their classes after yan mo. despite his high grades, he comes off as a laidback teen heartthrob and has a reputation for being a flake and a playboy. BUT he’s legit a chill dude and clearly popular for a reason--he gets along with (almost) everyone. he loves his sister and is extremely protective of her, especially since she’s so shy and has low self-esteem for Reasons That Will Be Explained in the Tragic Backstory. he’s such a good brother. the best brother. also looks out for qiao yi’s best friend, wu yi. understands the value of shoes.

hao wu yi

qiao yi’s best friend, and another classmate of The Crew. i say this with so, so much love, but she’s got a lot of chaotic dumbass energy. struggling along the bottom ranks with qiao yi during high school. she has the worst taste in men as a teenager, falling for the guy who literally bullied her in like. ep 2. thankfully she’s got qiao yi and guanchao.

the trio are close, and that doesn’t change as they grow up. wu yi ends up becoming a novelist who writes pop and steamy romance novels and has a significant teenage girl fanbase. it’s amazing. 

fei da chuan

my boy. another classmate, he, qiao yi, and wu yi make up the official Dumbass Trio of their high school class and have adorable adventures + solidarity in it. he’s also yan mo’s uncle. somehow. because rich people families are wild. while he’s got a place to live, he more often than not crashes at yan mo’s, who Does Not Like It. but da chuan does not notice or care. 

abrasive but 100% sincere about everything and toward everyone. people will think he’s an asshole or a gangster but then he’s secretly feeding abandoned kittens in the corner or something. as an adult, has the best business casual outfits. serves as a big brother figure to a lot of people, but qiao yi in particular. cannot, cannot fucking do math.

SUPPORTING

“alicia” / cheng youmei. an old family friend of yan mo’s who is very posh and rich and dignified. studied abroad with him at cambridge, and is cold toward qiao yi after arriving back in china. cosplays B)

teacher gao. everyone’s high school teacher who later owns a bar that seems to be there only for dispensing advice. seriously. there is no way this bar is economically sound as the only customers you ever see are gao’s students coming in one at a time for Wisdom and you never see them pay for anything. also the bar has no fucking roof and is directly above traintracks. i have hang-ups about this bar

lin shu. yan mo’s mother. very sweet and pretty and a ballernia turned program director. is almost never home but clearly loves her son. du chaun’s sister. somehow.

zhao suyin. qiao yi and guan chao’s mother. one of her kinks is roleplaying condor heroes characters? okay okay okay

tian weimin. qiao yi and guan chao’s stepfather who works as police officer. best dad award. he’s so sweet and corny and peak dad humor. he loves them kids & they love him back

grandpa. yan mo’s dog in high school. a very old basset hound with sad eyes:

DRAWBACKS

plot...hm. there’s SOME plot, but this is about characters + romance + friendship + family. if you’re looking for scheming mothers-in-law or tragic car accidents or secret destinies this isn’t the one for you. similar in vibe to Reply 1988 (they even watch the show in the show :’D / make references to it)

OKAY SO every plot summary i’ve seen says that yan mo is in a relationship with someone else when he gets back to china. no he is not. i say this because it was a huge turn off for me/initially put me off watching the series. he is definitely a one-and-only type. there’s no cheating in this show. lmao, hell, neither of the mains are even interested in anyone else but each other

i liked du chuan and his love interest a lot, but they definitely didn’t get as much screen time as the others

while it’s clear qiao yi + yan mo are the mains, another couple gets a lot of screen time as well. this might be a skip if you don’t like multiple couples/secondary relationships in a show

i surprisingly enjoyed the high school storyline a lot more than the adult one? which is super weird for me, but idk i was sad when it was over because it was so cute.

some...weird technical decisions. every once in a while, the camera will have like a nostalgia filter and then it disappears and then the edges get a bit blurry and idk it feels very film school 101 to show that what’s on screen is a ~memory. the soundtrack/music is sometimes also too loud--to the point where it can drown out the actors (particularly janice wu in the high school arc, since qiao yi is soft-spoken)

REASONS TO WATCH

the lead actors (janice wu + zhang yujian) are legit two of my favorites and they have great/easy chemistry. all the actors are amazing. everyone’s loveable

SIBLING GOALS the zhao twins are amazing and they’re both each other’s biggest fans. gaunchao had some really heartwarming brother moments

i love love lmao. this spoke to a lot of my favorite dynamics: exes reunited/having to work together, childhood sweethearts reuniting as adults, “gangster” and princess, childhood friends turned lovers, bickering couples, cold man who actually has a lot of feelings, lots of people being overprotective, idk. everything was just great. 0 complaints on any of the ships.

i genuinely liked every character other than that one piece of shit poppa zhao. even alicia, who’s put into the stereotypical rich bitch role, was actually really fun and subverted a lot of expectations for this trope

it’s just. real cute y’all. probably my favorite cdrama and definitely in my top 10 (maybe 5?) dramas overall.

GRYFFINDORS

seokjin

seokjin has always been a bit easy for me to categorize in terms of hp house

he just screams gryffindor to me

he tries to do what’s right

he’s the oldest in the group so he’s always taking care of his younger brother-like figures

he does his best to make sure the other members feel safe and comfortable in new environments (that’s why he cracks so many corny jokes—to break the ice!)

though he’s not the official leader of bangtan, he does a LOT of behind the scenes leadership work

i think seokjin can be mistaken as a hufflepuff (just because he’s so friendly and kind) BUT this is where the values come in. seokjin might have some hufflepuff-like traits, but he actually values the gryffindor traits even more. he values his passions, his confidence, his valiance

he doesn’t take himself too seriously, but he knows what’s right and wrong (great moral compass)

that puts him in gryffindor

namjoon

i’ve literally seen so many pple put joon in ravenclaw just because he has an insanely high iq

but i mean,,, as a ravenclaw myself, i don’t see him in my house

yes, namjoon is creative, yes, he is intelligent, and YES! he is indeed insightful!! BUT,,, it all comes down to his values

namjoon uses his intelligence, his creativity and insight for the good of everyone! he’s a team player (not an individualist, as most ravenclaws tend to be)

and, not to mention, he’s bangtan’s official leader, and he does extremely well with that extra responsibility (gryffindors are great leaders)

namjoon tries so hard to do what’s right

he doesn’t try to cut corners to get to his goals. he’s very moral and fair

he likes peace and justice

gryffindors are drawn to good morals (they’re always trying to fix what’s wrong too)

hoseok

hoseok is so easy for me to categorize, but i’ve seen him be sorted into gryffindor sometimes

i don’t think he’d be in gryffindor, though. hoseok is someone who doesn’t exactly like the idea of *risks*

gryffindors are all about risks (stereotypically they don’t think about the consequences that much because all they want to do is wrong the right)

hoseok (though he is passionate and charismatic) is more fit for hufflepuff

he’s bright, kind and always has something nice to say

the persona he puts on in front of the camera is close to his real personality—he’s just a sunny person in general

what makes him such a hufflepuff is the fact that he’s so hardworking! hoseok just dOES NOT give up (he’s extremely loyal to the people in his life, and he’s loyal to his talents too)

he chased after his dancing talents and look where he is right now

he wasn’t originally a rapper but he practiced and practiced until it became one of his talents

he’s dependable, honest and values friendship

hufflepuffs are people’s persons. and hoseok is just that—A GIFT TO THE PEOPLE

taehyung’s the hardest one to put in a house in my opinion. he’s what you’d call *divergent* (and yes, in theory, everyone is divergent. we ALL have traits of ALL FOUR hp houses. BUT there are some people who exemplify all four traits more equally than others. so now, it all comes down to what taehyung values the most)

taehyung, in my eyes, is such a people’s person. that makes him a strong candidate for hufflepuff

the tae that i know has many friends—and he’s extremely good at reading people too (like his vibe check DO BE trustworthy)

hufflepuffs are often underestimated because they’re written canonnly as just being “nice”

hufflepuffs are much more than that. hufflepuffs are essentially gryffindors but with higher eq LOL (hufflepuffs would ONLY right the wrong if righting the wrong didn’t hurt anyone on the ‘wrong’ side—does that even make sense??)

tae is someone i see as extremely trustworthy—he’s someone who’d die WITH your secrets

he’s also very emotionally available to the people in his life

therefore,,, i sort tae into hufflepuff

RAVENCLAW

jungkook

ravenclaws are intelligent, insightful and most of all, they value creativity!!

jungkook is the staple ravenclaw

i can’t see him in any other house

like if i see jungkook, i see ravenclaw. they are literal synonyms

ravenclaws are stereotypically jack-of-all-trades because they genuinely enjoy learning new things

i mean,,, jungkook’s lowkey perfect right? he’s good at everything right? yeah it’s because he has the thirst to LEARN! he wants to be good at everything! that’s such a mf ravenclaw trait

jungkook’s naturally curious; he likes to poke at new things because he wonders what it’ll be like to learn about it and do it himself

ravenclaws are also stereotypically the “artsy” kids (and i mean, this man can DRAW)

ALSO! just because ravenclaws get called jack-of-all-trades often, it doesn’t mean they’re good at EVERYTHING. it means that they’re good at what they’re interested in!! (jungkook doesn’t exactly care too much about math, which is totally fine! he has his other interests)

ravenclaws are smart, yes, but just because you’re smart, doesn’t mean you’re necessarily a ravenclaw. (i.e. hermione isn’t open-minded enough to be ravenclaw.) being a ravenclaw doesn’t mean you just read a lot lol. it means you read a lot AND you take the adventures from the protagonist in the book and then apply it to yourself. hence, the *imagination*

SLYTHERINS

yoongi’s also really easy to sort

i mean, the man screams slytherin

a slytherin would do anything (maybe even cross a few rules) to get to his desired end result

some people call it evil (usually gryffindors and hufflepuffs), but i call it working smarter not harder (to slytherins, it’s not immoral to cut a few corners to get to their desired result—if they don’t get caught, that is)

if yoongi were not slytherin, he would not have cut corners in those bts run episode games LMAO (icon behavior)

slytherins also value individuality (like ravenclaws) but in a COMPLETELY different way. ravenclaws love to be unique because with their insight, they conclude that everyone has dealt with different experiences, making them their each, special person. slytherins like to be individualists because they like to feel special (sometimes paired with a superiority/god complex BUT i don’t think that’s necessarily bad. but slytherins do tend to be more close-minded than ravenclaws; slytherins value tradition)

in turn, slytherins find more success than ravenclaws. sometimes, ravenclaws step back when they find that their ideals will be replaced with success. slytherins would rather replace/reform their ideals to find success (i.e. yoongi became an extremely successful idol rapper when he could’ve actually just become a producer instead)

slytherins also tend to have trust issues. they don’t like to trust others except for themselves (smart, really)

yoongi is very self-driven and self-reliant, making him a perfect slytherin candidate

i’ve mentioned before that everyone is *divergent* 

of course i have all four traits of the hp houses, but the traits aren’t very equal for me. i have all the traits of ravenclaw, hufflepuff aNd slytherin. except i’m not very gryffindor. i have a few gryffindor traits, yes, but i don’t value them as much as my other traits. with that said, it’s hard for me to acclimate in environments where people value things that i don’t necessarily find as important

i think it’d be best for me to be in ravenclaw (just because every ravenclaw i know has been my best friend). i think i’d also do well in slytherin (but sometimes, i can’t handle their intense ambition lol). i’m also a good hufflepuff candidate, but i don’t think i could trade up being a ravenclaw for that

in the end, your house is your choice (it’s what you value the most)

i would like to say i’m friendly, ambitious and creative. but when it comes down to it, i’m picking my creativity and RUNNING. so no, i would not change my house. never! i’m a solid ravenclaw!!

alright .. tell me about 911, where to watch it, why i should watch it, etc etc

hgdfglhj bold of u to assume i know how to write good and coherent reviews to inspire people to watch stuff lmao 

but i’ll try :D 

okay so

911 is a show about the first responders, the 911 dispatchers and more importantly, firefighters (and a few police officers). There are actually two shows, the original 911 and the spin-off 911: Lone Star. The premise is pretty much the same, it’s the same universe, they just take place in different cities (original in LA, spin off in Texas) and ofc with different characters. The shows focus on two firehouses, each with its own firefamily whose stories drive the plot as they deal with emergencies. The story in both is almost all about that found family trope, the relationships inside the firefam and outside of it and the importance of it. It is all so heartwarming and genuine. Some would probably say a little corny, but I think it’s truly wholesome. 

The characters have great developments, you’re bound to end up caring for all of them in one way or another because there’s real depth to them and you fall in love as you gradually get to know them. Also they’re all equally cared for, everyone gets their spotlight and a chance to shine. Their stories are actually connected from start to finish, even if it’s all being written by several writers, you can tell they all have the same vision and goal in mind. There are no plotholes, no loose plot points (as far as I know), and the writers make sure to write a clever story without making it difficult or intricate. So you get a lot of information through each season, but it’s done in a way that’s easy to follow and connect the dots, sometimes certain events are told through different POVs so you can understand the context even better, and it all gets tied up neatly at the end. It’s just really well planned out, and everything they introduce has its meaning and purpose.

Also, what’s particularly great about these shows is that they deal with real world problems without holding back anything. They introduce actual issues that plague the society and they tell them in a way that doesn’t make you miserable and feeling like they’re unsolvable. They give you hope that things can always turn for better. They take these issues, like racism and racial profiling, sexism, PTSD, or domestic abuse, and they take time to explain them. Properly. Why they’re problematic and how to deal with them and end up on top. As the characters find themselves facing those problems, you can tell that the story roots for them, it wants them to win because they’re good people. And they do. They kick ass and it’s so fucking refreshing to see them struggle and have it be worthwhile, instead of taking their hope away just for shock value and drama. 

If you care about representation, these shows handle diversity wonderfully. If you combine both main casts you have black, white, asian, latinx, lesbian, gay, trans, muslim and disabled characters. Of course diversity doesn’t end there, there’s plenty of representation in the background as well. A lot more than you’d usually find in most popular tv shows. You can tell they actually put thought into casting. So you get more female doctors, more black doctors/surgeons, black female soldiers in high ranks, lgbt+ characters/couples with emergencies, disabled workers (e.g. dispatchers or therapists). Basically, where most tv shows would go with stereotypical casting bc they’d think you wouldn’t notice since it’s just background characters, these shows try to include everyone everywhere without making a big deal of it. You know that’s a real problem when you still notice these changes for the better.

I’m sure I’m missing some other important stuff about why these shows are actually good shows, even if they fall in line with procedural tv which usually isn’t the most enlightening piece of media, but I feel like the stuff I’ve mentioned should be enough to encourage anyone to give them a try. If you want something heartwarming and sweet with a genuinely engaging plot and interesting characters and relationships, but that isn’t too difficult to watch, then this is the perfect show. I’d also suggest you start with the original 911 because it has more seasons. Lone Star only has 1 so far so it’s still developing some of these things I’ve mentioned. As to where to watch it, it’s on Fox and I think Hulu? I tor*ented the seasons bc I don’t have access to any of that and I’m poor, oops :/

#2. Ouran Host Club: Don’t judge me, Keith, this is A TRUE CLASSIC! The fact that it mocks the stereotypes and flips the tropes of the shoujo genre was revolutionary. This one will forever be in my heart! 💓Plus I stan my nonbinary QUEEN Haruhi!!

#3. One Piece: c'mon Keith, you know what’s good😏 but yeah not to be corny but this show saved me one summer when I was bummed about being declined at the airport (don’t even, long story👋😔) and I literally binged watched all of the 800+ episodes in two weeks! It was a lot and sigh, those were the times…

#4. Hunter X Hunter: speaking of being bummed out, so after catching up with OP, I decided to watch HXH and OH MY GOD! Best decision ever! This show! The writing!? The action and animation?? Godlike! SERIOUSLY if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it! It’s so fucking good! 👀👀👌👌👌 It can go from 100 to 1000000X too!!

Headcanons for a relationship with Ken before military school?

Alright so pre-military Ken is such an open guy! If I recall correctly he was definitely NOT shy about expressing how he felt about your Candy. This also applies to your relationship! He is never ever ashamed to tell you how much he cares about you, and he won't be afraid to express that to others as well.Pre-military Kentin is very insecure about himself. In comparison, his physical self is definitely not as "attractive" as your stereotypical hot teenage guy body, like the other boys and he knows this. He's constantly comparing himself to them. You'll have to reassure him that you do love him no matter what. If constant reassuring isnt for you then dont be with pre-military Ken!As dorky as he can be, he's actually very romantic and puts a lot of thought into your dates. Honestly you're lucky to have someone as thoughtful as he is. I feel like he would constantly be trying to spend all of his money on you though, which at that point you're going to have to tell him to STOP. It can be aggravating but he just likes spoiling you.He loves cuddles. Cuddles all day, every way. He likes being the big spoon, and his favorite thing ever is cuddling on the couch with cookies and movies.Whenever a special occasion comes around like your birthday, valentines day, anniversaries, etc. You can bet your ass he bakes you the cutest sweets ever. Cupcakes with hearts, heart shaped chocolate, cookies with corny romantic phrases on them. All that good stuff. He packs them into a super cute box with a beautiful bow tied around it. Attaches some balloons and along with it comes whatever gift he decides to get you for that occasion.Honestly you might gain a little bit of weight being with him lmao because while it's not all he eats, he still eats a lot of freaking sweets and unless you have good self control you guys are just gonna indulge on sweets and then complain about the stomach ache later.He's a decent kisser. At first he was very stiff and kind of over did it sometimes but eventually he learns thanks to your help. Now he gives very nice, gentle loving kisses.Idk if this is canon and thats why everyone thinks this, but I don't think he was shorter pre-military. I mean sure he could have grown but I think it was just the way his design was drawn. So therefore, while he may not be a giant, he's at a decent height. Its cute if you're shorter than him, because it makes him feel much more masculine and it's just a cute image. Pretty girl with this lil nerd guy. Adorable.He also gives AMAZING hugs. You wouldn't think so because he's quite thin. But he squeezes you just right, and he's always warm!Also regardless of his design I like to think that pre-military Ken does not look like an overly expressive bobble head. In my head I imagine pre-mil Ken still looked like himself, just not super chiseled and stuff. He still had those gorgeous eyes under those huge glasses. So while he is attractive, people just ignore him because of the whole "dork" status. But thats okay because now you have him.

in which bowie ghostwrites a song, andi tries to go ghost on walker, and [insert third awful ghost pun here]: 

so bowie is actually ringing up customers for once at the music store that I figured rarely got business because helloo it’s always damn near empty but I guess today there was a surge of customers seeking out guitar picks and vinyls to show how Cultured and Unique they were for listening to the beatles or whomever. anyway jonah is on his guitar, doing as jonahs are wont to do, and bowie drops the bomb on him with “so yeah remember that music coach I told you about? she hates you. she quite frankly and literally wants you dead. she told me this herself. why didn’t you show up???” and jonah’s like “andi don’t fw me anymore :(” which isn’t rly an answer bc lbr here homeboy was ALREADY running late. you mean to tell me him staring at that painting took 4 whole minutes? nah. 

so anyway bowie’s like “hm let’s change that” bc manipulating your daughter’s emotions behind her back is cool I guess. bowie, totally not projecting in any way whatsoever, suggests that jonah write andi a song. jonah’s not about it tho. “I can’t talk about my feelings!” he says, which is true considering he only just started exhibiting negative emotions for the first time ever last week. bowie goes, “sure u can! what rhymes with back?” and jonah almost says “crack!” bc thats clearly what bowie’s been on for the past 2 episodes but lemme not.

anyway jump to andi @ the spoon and her boo thang who’s not rly her boo thang yet bc terri hates us is facetiming her again. “so andi, my wife whom I would die for, what’s up?” and andi replies “my best friend is moving away :(” so walker, the understanding king he is, goes “aw pick your head up queen, your crown’s falling :’)” and tells her to go be with her friends and something about a bubble machine idk but w/e we still stan.

buffy comes in w/ all the junk the ghc left at her house including a knockoff tamagotchi which seems kinda before andi’s time?? like she was supposedly 7 when she got it which would have been around 2010? but once again w/e we still stan. and buffy reads the recommendation letter cyrus’ mom wrote for him which seemed a tad incomplete. “I can’t believe my mom forgot to add three references, what a waste...” he sighs.

but walker comes in and andi’s like “tf didn’t u just tell me to drink bubble soap and be w/ my friends? what r u doing here?” and walker, the modern day da vinci, says “im here to draw ur friends as a going away present for your fellow queen, buffy” and buffy looks shooketh like hey if andi don’t want him go get him sis! 

so walker draws a louvre level artist rendering of the ghc and instead of appreciating the fact that walker could probably make an exact recreation of the mona lisa, andi’s like “*rolls eyes emoji* *sucks teeth emoji* now i got TWO of these little boys after me what the fuck -_-” but that doesn’t matter bc buffy and cyrus are LIVING for it. 

“im gay so clearly im the better sassy best friend, step tf back bitch”

“the sassy best friend stereotype was made for my black ass cyrus so if you think for even a second I won’t claim my rightful spot you are sadly mistaken”

anyway back at the music shop, jonah has just finished practicing the song bowie ghostwrote for him. jonah’s like “great this is perfect for me to sing outside andi’s window” and bowie quite litcherally flips a table and goes “you rly thought u were gonna pull that corny shit??? what year is it?? 1985 called they want their courtship technique back lol what a loser” and jonah’s like hm perhaps he really is on crack but doesn’t say it out loud bc that would hurt bowie’s feelings :/. bowie says that he already booked jonah to perform at the open mic being held THAT NIGHT lmao and jonah just about has another panic attack bc what??

“what??” he asks bowie who is too busy thinking about him performing “you girl” to bex when they were younger to even remember who jonah even is. jonah’s quite honestly shitting himself and wondering what tf he’s going to do. “being around you” is cute and all but it doesn’t go nearly as hard as andi deserves, especially if he now has to compete with artsy fartsy walker who could probably redo the sistine chapel all by himself if he rly wanted to. “hm..........how can one convey how truly deep in their feelings they are for the one they love?” jonah asks the universe, bc hey it seems to always work for bowie. 

the universe responds by sending a speeding car full of college kids blasting aubrey graham’s newest hit single right into the storefront window. 

“that’s it!” 

jonah’s handing out flyers at the spoon and cyrus literally melts into a puddle and I’m pretty sure this is the first nod to his crush on jonah since he came out to andi wow. andi’s like “since when do u do anything aside from throwing a plastic disc?” and jonah’s like “last week 🤗"

they go to the open mic and some girlie is throwing it DOWN w/ her accordion but bowie being the uncultured swine he is, pulls her off the stage. “anywayyyy here’s our final performance and the only reason we held this show tonight, give a big round of applause to jonah beck!”

jonah walks out with his guitar and an amazon copyrighted product shaped like a portable speaker. bowie’s like 🤨 bc this was supposed to be an acoustic performance tf does he need a backing track for? jonah sits down on his lil stool and clears his throat. “alexa play ‘in my feelings, jonah beck cover’”. the device plays a track consisting of jonah’s angelic backing vocals, and our boy begins to strum his guitar. he opens his mouth to croon...

“trap...trap bowie bowie”

bowie’s chiseled jaw drops to dirty ass music shop floor. “this is...not what I planned.”

“this stuff’s got me in my feelings...gotta be real w/ it...”

the entire audience has a collective heart attack. 

“an-di, do u luv me? r u riding? say you’ll never ever leave from beside me, cause I want ya and I need ya, and I’m down for u always...”

buffy and cyrus catch whiplash from turning so fast to face andi. “the song’s about YOU bitch!”

andi shakes her lil head. “puh-lease, no it’s not”

cyrus, doing his best not to cry, says “he literally just said ur name but go off”

andi’s in denial bc eww j*n*h b*ck? singing a song? for her? disgusting. but jonah keeps singing his little heart out and the lyrics are more and more damning as they go on. 

“trap, trap bowie bowie...I buy you rice on a string cause you not that showy”

“art 101 cause u just like zoey”

“fuck he is singing about me...”

“fudge that netflix and chill what’s ur net-net-net worth?” jonah sings, hitting an impossible high note. queen of vocals. 

“you’re the only one I luv~~~” he serenades, serving us mariah carey level whisper notes. ariana is cancelled! our boy finishes the song, basking in the thought of how many careers he singlehandedly ended by performing at this small hole-in-the-wall music shop in bumfuck, utah. drake your days are numbered sis. 

everyone immediately deserts the shop en masse like did y’all see how fast they all left last episode?? damn. buffy and cyrus stay behind while andi is frozen sitting in her chair bc what the hell does one say to that. 

bowie goes up to jonah and is like “so um...that was...different.” and jonah responds “ikr! see, ‘being around you’ felt too old school, too...2002. idk why that year specifically, but idk it just sounds like it was written in 2002 for a completely different person, maybe even bex, but what do I know? im just your friendly neighborhood jonah beck.” bowie is shook. “anyway, do u think andi liked it?” bowie looks up to see his dorder who he’s more or less forgot about in favor of m*randa and demon child for the past couple of days walking in slow motion to the stage. how she was doing that was beyond him. “well, she looks like she’s about to cry so that’s either a very good thing or a very bad thing. ur on ur own now bud.” and he skidaddles to where bex is waiting. oh yeah bex was in this episode too I forgot. 

andi approaches jonah and he’s like “...so...song....you like?” and andi’s internally screaming bc everyone for the past several weeks has been pushing this relationship on her including jonah himself and now he just sung this song in front of all these ppl and now she pretty much HAS to kiss him so anyway ya she does. 

when she pulls away jonah blinks. “oh...dosche”

also No One Asked for my opinion but tbh i don't know how i feel about the prospect of a wicked movie haha

like for one thing it's so kitschy and imperfect and painfully 2003, but i love it for that. and with every passing year i get filled with more Dread as i imagine all the ways they'll try to update the pop culture references for a modern mass audience lmao. it's SUCH a product of its time, in both good and bad ways (like, if you read early reviews it becomes clear that a lot of it is Bush Era Commentary) and it's SUCH a weirdly specific cultural synthesis: silly 2000s teen movie tropes + the intimate familiarity that Americans have with the Wizard of Oz + bits and pieces of this obscure edgy Wizard of Oz fanfiction some guy wrote in 1995. that's always been part of what's fascinated me about it, because like. when are we ever gonna get something this chaotic again? and have it become an international success for 17 years?? the fact that it holds up is amazing to me, and definitely a testament to how good the good parts are

and while on one hand i think it's a timeless story that could DEFINITELY benefit from some revamping (specifically better representation and less outdated stereotypes), i also feel like a 2020s Big Budget Feature Film Wicked would have to change so much that it would become unrecognizable and lose some of its charm yknow? it’s always felt like a time capsule to me, and i can’t really imagine it otherwise

also, aside from being dated, wicked is just... it's weird. i love it to death but it's a hot mess. i don't know what would be more awkward, the Goat Song played dead straight on the big screen in 2020 or some sort of cynical revamped version of that intended for a mass audience. on one hand yes this is an incredibly flawed musical that could benefit from some touching up, but on the other hand its silliness is INTEGRAL. there’s no escaping it. you can pry its stupid earnestness and incredibly corny dialogue out of my cold dead hands

✨ALSO✨ this is just a personal preference but i feel like wicked works way better on the stage than it would on the big screen bc so much of it is like... interactive in the way it feeds off of audience energy. especially the humor. one of my favorite things, for example, is how the Popular scene is more or less improv that changes with every performance: glinda does something funny, the audience laughs, elphaba loses her composure and laughs, the audience starts laughing because elphaba is laughing, glinda does something even funnier and the audience laughs even harder, etc etc. the same kinda feedback loop applies to elphaba’s big numbers, where there’s this Expectation in the audience that plays into the energy of the performance (elphaba riffs, audience cheers, elphaba riffs even harder). i genuinely can’t imagine wicked without all the fourth-wall-breaking but i expect it would make me Very Sad

I have this theory about the Hypothetical Wicked Movie, and when I've brought it up to people they assumed I was joking but I genuinely believe that the rumours that have been circulating for ten or more years are all a ruse to create hype and sell tickets and nobody EVER plans to make this film. What convinced me was multiple different "release dates" coming and going without even a confirmed cast much less an Entire Finished Movie. And they'll keep doing this for another decade

okay, this is such a good one — where do i start?

          maybe with something very important: Jon has a very traditional mentality, which naturally comes with being inserted in a medieval society. yes, he is sexist sometimes; yes, he is racist sometimes; yes, he’s narrow minded sometimes. i never shy away from portraying any of this, because this is an important foundation of his personality and values. bastard born or not, he’s Ned Stark’s son and he places honor and duty above most things. 

          on the other hand, Jon is also a rather curious soul, and open to adventure and different sights and people and mentalities — he may know nothing, but he’s quick to learn. for example, he does not consider a woman weak simply for being a woman, nor considers that a woman’s only use is to cook and sew socks and produce children. but he does envision most women as being more fragile than men, and, therefore, in need of protection. again, it’s the society he lives in, and it’s what’s normal to him.

          now, the figures you mention. undoubtedly, Jon is aware that his little sister is not the stereotypical lady. Jon and Arya have always been the closest of the Stark (Snow) children, and part of this is justified by the fact that they are both outcasts, in their own way — Jon is the bastard, Arya is the daughter who loathes sewing and is not good at handwriting or other (considered) girly chores, and she would much rather spar with the boys outside. and he doesn’t love her in spite of this, but BECAUSE of this. he loves that Arya is so independent, so different, so unafraid to break stereotypes and to go for what she loves, rather than what others expect of her. and he clearly encourages it, as shown by gifting Needle to her. even in the later books, when he’s convinced Arya is married to Ramsay, he thinks of her and worries because he can totally see her trying to fight Ramsay like the warrior lady she is. hands down, Arya’s role in his personal conceptions of women is fulcral.

          now, with Sansa. Sansa is much closer to what Westeros considers a “true” highborn lady, this much everyone knows — and Jon has spent most of his life agreeing with this. however, he never disliked Sansa for it — they were never close, but for completely distinct motives. tbh Jon 100% supports women who want to be what they want to be — Arya wants to be a tomboy, great, he supports her; Sansa wants to be a lady, great, he supports her. there is something that Jon learned from Ned and that he says to maester Aemon when trying to convince him to take Sam as his personal steward, right now i do not remember the exact words but it’s around the lines of: every man is different and every man has his use. you cannot hammer tin into steel, but this does not mean tin is useless. which is pretty much his opinion of Sansa and Arya. however, in s07 Sansa is also surprising him (a lot) and opening his horizons — by showing him that a woman can be as good at ruling as any man — which is, precisely, why he chose to leave the North in her hands. not because she is his sister, not because she is a Stark (also, but not only), but because he knows she’s capable of a good job and trusts her with all his heart. Sansa saved his life in the Battle of the Bastards and he has no issue with acknowledging this, and he is also very much aware that she’s far better at playing the game than he is. Jon is too honest and too blunt, he excels at ruling and leading but he has no talent for politics. he rules with the heart, while Sansa rules with the brain, and this is why they are complementar. 

          Dany. okay, so this part will be a bit more based on our own threads/chats, because alas D&D think character development is a waste of time and never gave us much of a decent conversation between them. even so, clearly Daenerys is a challenge to Jon’s beliefs and perspectives. Jon has spent his entire life pretty much at Winterfell only — the books give us no insight, but i personally headcanon that he never traveled south of the Neck, because, even when Ned would visit a lord, it was Robb who traveled along with him, for being the heir and the one in need to learn how to be a diplomat. Dragonstone is his first time ever out of the North, so obviously he’s restricted to the values and habits and traditions of his homeland. whereas Dany, she’s traveled to so many different cities and met so many different folks. by far, she’s seen things Jon never even dreamed existed and she’s familiar with habits he never even considered. therefore, when she shares this with him, it’s only natural that his first reaction will be confusion or even to think it as wrong or unnatural — but he will be willing to listen and to learn, once again. as well, it goes without saying that Dany is the epitome of girl power, to be corny here. indeed, i personally headcanon that Jon fell for Dany not (only) because of the good heart and the pretty face, but because of her “power”, so to call it — you don’t just watch a tiny cute girl mounted on a badass huge dragon who goes off to fight the enemy armies herself and keep your knees unquivering lbr.

          before i end, let me just point out two other names you did not mention but who are essential in this reasoning. first, the Mormont women. Maege Mormont, most of all, but also all her daughters — they are the reason why Jon sees warrior women as natural, despite the usual ladies tradition. because of them, he knows that women can be fierce and strong and blunt and a force to be reckoned with, all the same while still being loving and kind and honorable and loyal and motherly. and, of course… Ygritte. if there is a woman who’s opened Jon’s mind and shaped the manner in which he sees women, it is definitely her. if Jon is who he is nowadays, so preoccupied with the free folk and with being inclusive and saying things like “we’re all on the same side, we’re all breathing”, it is vastly thanks to her. her free-spirited nature clashed completely with his rigid honor (so much that it reduced his vows to dust lmao) and helped him start growing much more empathetic and much more tolerant of the difference. and it taught him to never take a woman for granted, and definitely to never believe that there are things “for men only”.

          then, let me wrap this up by summing up the essential: Jon has some very traditional, very rigid views of what a woman “should be like”, born from his upbringing and his life story and experiences. but he is also very open to the women who are willing to show him that matters aren’t so linear, and he’ll be the first one to praise them and acknowledge them for their achievements. AND. one thing is never changing, this much i can guarantee: even if it is a woman, any woman, thrice his size and thrice as strong as he is, he will still ALWAYS want to protect her. it’s just in his nature, not only towards women but especially towards women.
