i have the feeling that instead of letting Upstead grow Gwen wants and will pour more and more fuel on the fire and let it burn down...

While I may not currently agree with the trajectory or some decision making, I think that Gwen not only loves Upstead, but all of the characters as well. There are ways to allow Hailey to grow as an individual person without doing what they are doing - but.... The writers room don't seem to get it. I feel like they are putting out little fires left and right and aren't looking for the real source of the burn. They're definitely missing a large puzzle piece, and it's evident, and they are struggling to put it all back together.

I worked part-time at a library as a teenager and young adult before I graduated college and found my first career-type job.

We often had homeless people come in, and I never witnessed them cause trouble, nor did I hear of any issues happening when I wasn't there. Being homeless doesn't make them "bad" people. They're just people. Some of them want something to read or a computer to use, the library being one of the few remaining places one can access free entertainment. Some of them need a way to get out of extreme heat or cold or somewhere to shelter from inclement weather. Some of them just need a safe place to rest for a bit where they know they aren't going to be attacked or hurt by someone.

As OP said, the problems come from people like grown-ass men following around teenage girls who are just trying to do their jobs and sexually harassing them. Or careless parents abandoning their children in the juvenile section, taking no care for what mess they make (not the kids' fault, they're just kids who don't know better) while treating the library like some kind of daycare service.

(I'll also add, most people who vehemently spout hate about the homeless community have absolutely no idea what it's like to live in such a situation, and the staggering lack of empathy is, quite frankly, sickening.)

A question I get asked a lot while working at a public library is "how do you deal with homeless people?"

And the answer is, we don't.

The unhoused people who come here seeking refuge 99% of the time understand that they will be kicked out if they misbehave.

The people you have to watch out for are Jessica, who only came because the kid she didn't want had to visit for a homework assignment and she just *needs* to yell at her child for asking to borrow two books or stay an extra five minutes, or Michael, who came in to look at porn on our computers for whatever fucking reason, or Karen who just wanted to come by to throw a fit that the particular book she wanted was checked out and harrass our staff about our collection being too limited.

99% of the time, the people we need to ban are middle to upper-middle class white people while the homeless and mentally ill/disabled people mind their own damn business and are honestly some of the best patrons we have.
