today i drove several towns over to buy two vintage French tarot decks from someone who was selling them both on Craigslist for $7 - i was taking bets on whether the seller (who was very funny in our email correspondence, but only signed off with initials) would end up being a middle-aged woman or possibly a younger queer who just didn't really know what they had
imagine my surprise and delight when the person who answered the door with the decks in hand was an elderly French man who almost certainly bought these new in the late 70s to early 80s! a Grand Etteilla and a Marseille, both by Grimaud - i'm particularly excited about the Etteilla because that was a hole in my collection
he was really sweet & i gave him $10 even though he complained about it ($7 is such a bizarre price but he was just like "no no, enjoy them"). i mean together these decks in this condition are easily worth $100-150 but i'm keeping them! i do have a couple of others i'm thinking of selling, they uh. don't all fit in my cartomancy drawer anymore
#i should take a photo of my decks all together honestly#i have some really good shit#the text on the grand etteilla box is hilarious too#now what i really need is a lenormand & then i'll have an example from every generation#i do have one solitary antique lenormand card#it's prooooobably the oldest card i have?#cartomancy#collections
