#it's pretty annoying because my mother-in-law of course asked me how applying for jobs is going. I haven't applied for a single one yet

my niece stayed with us last night. it was pretty fun this time, probably because I was feeling better (if I'm already in pain or exhausted, I can't handle it). after we dropped her off, we talked to my mother for a little bit, and then drove to my in-laws. we were there for a few hours and because the guys were busy outside, i ended up talking to my mother-in-law for most of that time. it was... kind of good? I don't know. she actually showed some real emotions, just a little bit, but hey that's more than ever before! I even gave her a weird little shoulder squeeze/side hug, it was so weird.

anyway, I almost fell asleep in the car on the way home because I was so tired, and actually did fall asleep immediately on the couch.

Present, Past, Future

THE DAY HE COMES BACK

Incheon Airport looks different the moment Wonpil lands his foot on the ground. Probably the new structure of the building? Or is that new burger chain restaurant? He is not sure anymore, but the only thing he is sure for now is, he is finally back.

To be honest, Wonpil is anxious to be back home. It's been too long. It's long enough for him to forget how it feels like to be Korean. Italy had changed him to a completely different person. Nonetheless, he is still excited. He is finally able to see his family again not through phone screen.

He is walking slowly to claim his luggage and queue for a taxi. Thank God, he doesn't forget his mother language after staying abroad, so he doesn't find any hassle in catching a taxi. The taxi drives through the busy street of Seoul and all the skyscrapers flashing in front of him. They look so different from the last time he saw it. He doesn't exactly remember how it was, but seeing his hometown again after a really long time feels strange.

His mind wanders to the reason why he left. Why he sacrificed his family for living alone somewhere far away instead. He wanted to make peace with himself. He wanted to be able to accept and love himself first. When he finally found his inner peace after thirteen years, that’s also when he decided to go home for good.

The trip doesn't really take a long time though. He doesn’t realize he has reached his destination in twenty minutes. After saying thanks to the driver and taking his luggage from the trunk, he pulls it to a front door of a house. The house isn't too big, but it radiates warm energy. It's not only a house for Wonpil, it's a home that he misses the most.

He knocks on the door but no one answers it at first. He knows it will happen since he doesn't tell anyone he will come home. He knocks again when a middle aged woman appears from the house.

“Who— Oh my God, my son!” the woman hugs him immediately. Her hug is tight and Wonpil can feel his shoulder is getting wet from his mother's tear. It makes him cry too.

“Why don't you tell me that you will come back, Wonpil?” his mother pats him on his cheeks and inspects his face, cannot believe that her son is finally here.

“To surprise you?”

“What kind of surprise is this? I haven't cook anything for you and you look so skinny”

“Mom...” he whines, “but yeah, I lost some weight while living in Milan. There's no delicious food there and I need to be on a strict diet for my job.”

“Come here, I will cook you a lot of food then,” she says while opening the door wider so Wonpil can pass through it with his big luggage. She disappears to the kitchen then, probably preparing meals for him.

While everything in Seoul seems to change, his home stays the same. The wallpaper, the floor, even the furniture are still the same like the last time he was there. God, he really misses this. It's not like Wonpil never called his family in the last thirteen years. He called, but everything is different when he's actually there.

Wonpil is too immersed in his own nostalgia, he doesn't hear small steps coming from the bathroom.

“Grandma, where are you? We haven't washed our hands yet!”

A small boy, probably 7 years old, is running in his house and suddenly stops in front of his face, he looks scared like he sees a stranger. Well, he is indeed a stranger in his own house.

“GRANDMA! THERE'S A WEIRD AHJUSSI HERE!” he screams and walks slowly to the corner of the room.

“I'm not weird ahjussi, Dowoon-ah”

“Who are you then? Why do you know my name?”

“I'm Uncle Wonpil, you don't remember?” he speaks with a fake hurt tone.

“Uncle Wonpil? Mom's brother?”

“Yeah, he is your mom's brother,” his mother comes back from the kitchen, probably remembering that his grandson was still in the bathroom before.

“Grandma, why did you leave me suddenly? We haven't finished washing hands”

“I know, Grandma is sorry. But I heard the knocking on our door so I opened it and Uncle Wonpil was there. I think I was too excited so I forgot you,” she chuckles while pinching the chubby cheeks of Dowoon. “I will continue cooking and you will wash your hands with Uncle Wonpil, okay?”

The little kid only gives a small nod and walks to the bathroom. Wonpil follows him and helps him to stand near the sink.

“Are you really Uncle Wonpil?” Dowoon asks. His eyes are skeptical and Wonpil wants to laugh.

“Of course I'm Uncle Wonpil! Why do you keep asking that?”

Dowoon only shrugs. He doesn't ask anymore and wash his hands in silence. After they finish with their hands, Wonpil comes to the kitchen while Dowoon sprints off to somewhere in their house.

In the small amount of time, his mom manages to cook so many dishes and it makes his stomach growl. “Eat a lot,” she says and Wonpil doesn't need to be told to inhale all those food. He almost tears up again because he really misses his mom's cooking.

Later that night, he surprises the rest of the family. To say they are shocked when Wonpil appears for his bedroom is understatement. His father hugs him immediately, telling him that he is proud of Wonpil for finishing his college and surviving alone in another country while his older sister messes his hair and pinch his cheeks, saying she misses his annoying little brother.

He catches up with the whole family while eating dinner. From the conversation, he knows that his father started to have interest in gardening so he planted a lot of things in their small garden in front of the house. His older sister got promoted not long after she gave birth to Dowoon and Wonpil says sorry because he couldn't go home for her labour. His brother-in-law was moved to another branch of his company, it's a little bit further so he is stressed with the traffic jam every day. It's also the reason why he isn't there. And Dowoon, well he says he made rocketship in his class.

Wonpil sees his family chatting happily and he is glad he makes the right decision to come back home and stay here.

THE DAY HE REMINISCES

He tries to sleep that night but he can't. He doesn't know whether it's because jet lag or the heaviness in his heart. Yes, he is glad he is at home with his family, but there's an unsettling feeling inside. His thought flies away to the reason why he left this country thirteen years ago and a question suddenly pops in his head, “what if he meets him again?”

Funny enough, the reason why he applied for that scholarship in the first place was to avoid this city. No, he didn't hate Seoul, nor have problems with his family. He only wanted to avoid this particular person because he knew, everywhere he went, if it's still in Seoul, there's a slight chance that he would meet him and he didn't want that.

Now he is back for good, there's possibility that he will meet him somewhere, someday. He is not sure if he will be ready or not. He only hopes he will.

Since the sleepiness doesn't come anyway, he decides to take a midnight walk to get some fresh air. He wears his coat and leaves his house to any places where his feet bring.

It ends up in an empty park near their high school. A pair of familiar swings welcome him. The swings are still the same but the paint is already worn off and it's rusty. The saddles also remain the same although it's a little bit dirty and old.

He sits in one of the swings and swinging lightly. A wave of memories suddenly come crashing and it takes him to thirteen years ago, to a boy named Park Sungjin, the Busan guy who sat beside him for three years of high school. His seatmate who had allergy for his aegyo but actually cared a lot. The one who played guitar and had a sweet voice.

Also Park Sungjin, the guy that he tries to avoid the most. The guy behind the reason why he took the scholarship to a strange land. His only crush but also the one who broke his heart because he likes girls and Wonpil is not a girl.

He sighs, Park Sungjin, how is he doing right now?

The sky is so pretty that night, he looks it up and he remembers clearly what happened years ago in this place.

It was also late night when he walked home with Sungjin from the music store where they used to hang out to play the instrument. It was a good day, at least for Wonpil because he didn't have to hear Sungjin talking about his crush all the time.

But the good day had come to an end in the worst way.

They were in the middle of talking about the guitar that Sungjin played at the store, the one he said he wanted to buy it, when suddenly Sungjin's steps came to halt. Wonpil didn't know what made him stop until he was following Sungjin's sight.

Sungjin was looking at this swing, the exact same swing that Wonpil is currently sitting in the present time, but his eyes fixed on someone. It was the girl, his long time crush. She was talking with Younghyun, the loner of the class. From Wonpil's eyes, they seemed talking animatedly, which was weird because Younghyun never talked to anyone at school.

When Wonpil looked at Sungjin's face, his mood turned somber. There's no longer happy Sungjin like few minutes ago. A mixture of pain, sadness, and disappointment appeared clearly on his face.

And it was hurting Wonpil all over again. Sungjin deserved someone better than her, someone that truly cared about him. If Wonpil could be selfish, he wished Sungjin would look at him instead like they way he looked at the girl. Wonpil wanted to know how it felt like to be that girl. To be someone that could make Sungjin's heart flutter and the only thing he's talking about all the time.

He took a deep sigh and put his ego aside. He should be the best friend that Sungjin needed. After all, Sungjin still needed him even though not in a way that Wonpil needed him.

“You are done mopping?” he walked closer to Sungjin. His sudden existence surprised him and burst out his bubble.

“Yeah, let's go home,” they continued their walk in silence. At first, Wonpil tried to make a conversation so it wouldn't be awkward, but Sungjin only answered him in short sentences. Therefore, Wonpil stopped trying and Sungjin didn't say anything afterwards.

Their great day had ended and Wonpil remembers it as an awful memory.

A strong blow of wind makes Wonpil shivers. He tightens his coat and smiles bitterly. He was a fool who used to wish he could heal Sungjin's pain. However, being his best friend was even worse because along the way, he got hurt instead.

Wonpil gets up from the swing. He doesn't want to be drowned in painful memory anymore. He continues his midnight walk to somewhere that won't hurt him.

He walks through a small mini market, cafe, and arcade where he used to spend his time after school. Everything remains the same, maybe there are some slight changes that go unnoticed by Wonpil, but he doesn't really care.

His feet bring him further until they stop at the end of the bridge that connects to another neighborhood. He looks straight and all his defenses crumble. This place is the hardest.

He takes a deep breath, walks in small steps until he reaches the middle part of the bridge. Then, he leans himself on the railing. He tries to look under the bridge, wondering if the small river is still the same or not, but he cannot see anything since it passed midnight.

The memory is still vivid in his mind even after thirteen years. The last moment they spent together on the bridge, a place where they used to meet for 'emergency' situations.

Sungjin was late at that time but Wonpil didn't really care because he had something more important to tell. He was panicking inside.

“Sorry, I'm late,” he said while leaning on the railing. His elbow knocked on Wonpil's and it made him jump a little.

“It's okay.”

There was only silence lingering around them. The air was heavy but none of them tried to break it off. Sungjin was waiting for Wonpil to speak but he was too scared that it would lead to something bad.

Wonpil gathered up his courage and gave him the little bunny keychain from the night before. His palm opened up and Sungjin took it. He was looking at it with a sad smile on his face, the memory of last night came flashing.

“I was rejected you know. I mean, I've seen it coming. I've seen the way she was looking at Younghyun and I knew I had no chance. But I still did it anyway,” he let out a small chuckle, “I just... I didn't want to regret if I never confessed to her. I'm a fool, right, Pil?”

“No, you are not. Because if you are fool, I am too.”

Sungjin looked at him puzzled as he waited for Wonpil to continue his talk. He couldn't look at Sungjin, too afraid that he would undo his plan because he was too coward.

He took a deep breath and let it out. Here goes nothing.

“I like you. I like you more than as best friend or brother. I like you the way you like her,”

From the corner of his eye, he could see Sungjin opened up his mouth to say something. So he continued, stopping Sungjin from saying anything that potentially could hurt him more than this.

“You don't have to answer it. I know you don't feel the same way. Like you said, I don't want to regret never telling you my feelings.”

He finally looked at Sungjin. His face was full of confusion, but there's no disgust there and it made Wonpil a little bit relieved.

“I... I'm sorry, Wonpil”

“It's okay, I'll be fine,” he put a fake smile on his face to cover the sadness he felt inside, “I'll be going home first, okay. Take care!”

He straightened himself out of the railing and walked away from the bridge. Leaving the boy whom he just confessed drowning in his own bewilderment.

The next day, Wonpil left the country without telling goodbye to Sungjin.

He doesn't know why he sighs over that memory, but it's still hurting him as if it's a fresh wound that just happened yesterday.

The fact that he is still longing for Sungjin irks him. Even after all these years, when he thought he would finally be able to move on from him, he cannot do that.

And if someone asks him whether he has made a peace with himself or not, the answer is actually no.

His heart remains the same, it's aching for Sungjin.

THE DAY THEY MEET

It has been 6 months and Wonpil has settled in Seoul. He got a stable job as a model that paid him well. He moved to a small studio apartment in the heart of Gangnam. The most important thing, he didn't meet Sungjin at all.

He thinks maybe, just maybe, Sungjin moved back to Busan after they graduated and settled there. He is thankful if he really did that.

His life is almost perfect until he gets a homecoming invitation from Jae, his former classmate. He is contemplating whether he will come or not. He really wants to come but he is afraid that he will meet Sungjin.

After a long consideration, he decides to come. It's time for him to stop avoiding his problem and face the small fear inside of him instead.

The homecoming takes place in a restaurant around Itaewon. He comes a little bit late because a magazine photo shoot holds him for a while. When he arrived, he could see almost all of his classmates are there, except one person. It actually eases his worry.

It's all fun until a familiar figure enters the restaurant in the middle of the event. He is late again.

Wonpil recognizes him, though. Even after all these years, he still knows the owner of that broad back. The back he used to hug only to annoy him.

“Oy, Park Sungjin, you are late!” someone shouts from the crowd.

“I'm sorry, but the traffic jam is the worst,” he lets out a small laugh while scratching the back of his neck.

God, his laugh is still the same. It's blaring with a hint of playfulness in it. His habit of scratching his neck when he feels embarrassed also remains the same. He doesn't change at all.

Wonpil doesn't realize he is staring at Sungjin, but when he is awake from his trance, the said guy was also looking at him. He cannot read Sungjin's face, but there's a really tiny smile in the corner of his lips.

During the homecoming, Wonpil doesn't talk to Sungjin. He tries to make himself invisible and avoid any conversation. He only needs to survive until the end of this event.

When everyone is ready to go home, someone taps his shoulder and somehow it makes him anxious. His stomach churns and his palms turn clammy. He prepares himself for the worst. He turns his back and sees Sungjin is standing right behind him.

“Can we talk?” It's a simple question and Wonpil can make any fake excuses not to talk to him.

But here he is, in the small stairs beside the restaurant with Sungjin. The air around them reminds him of what happened thirteen years ago, of all the things that better be remain unsaid.

“You never tell me why did you move back then. Heck, I didn't even know you got a scholarship in Italy until I saw your Instagram post,” he sounds upset, but Wonpil cannot blame him though. He left so suddenly without warning.

“You know the reason, Sungjin. It's complicated. I just... I wanna make peace with myself at that time.”

“How's Milan, then?” he suddenly turns their conversation to something lighter. Something that doesn't remind them about the last time they meet.

He sighs, “It was good. The city was beautiful. The food was okay even though it's not as good as Korean food. How's yours?”

“Never been better,” there's a proud smile on his face. He seems like he wants to elaborate further when his phone suddenly rings. Sungjin picks up his phone and suddenly there's a voice of a little girl jarring from the call.

“Dad, where are you? Why is it so dark? I cannot see your face!”

“Dad is outside with his friend. It's dark because the lighting is dim, sweetie.”

This side of Sungjin is foreign to Wonpil. It's totally different. Sungjin never talks to someone this sweetly before and it's a surprise for him to see the soft side of Sungjin.

What's shocking the most is how Sungjin addresses himself as 'dad'. His mind cannot catch up with this new information. It's short circuited until he realizes there's Sungjin's phone in front of his face.

“Eunji-ya, say hi to Uncle Wonpil. He is dad's best friend from high school,” Sungjin says excitedly.

Wonpil wants to scoff but when he sees the screen, there's a cute little girl around 3 years old smiling at him. He doesn't have the heart to do so.

“Hello, Uncle Wonpil!”

“Umm... Hi, Eunji-ya?” he says awkwardly. At this point, he is not sure what to feel anymore. His heart is a mess and he wants to go home right now.

“Dad, when will you go home? I'm sleepy while waiting for you”

“Dad will be home soon! I will talk to you later, okay?”

“Alright! Love you, Dad!”

“Love you too, Park Eunji,” he blows a kiss for his daughter before hanging up the call.

“Hey, Pil, I'm sorry, I need to go home now. My daughter is waiting. We gotta catch up someday. See you soon!” he says abruptly.

He sees Sungjin makes a little run to the parking lot without waiting for his reply. The same thing he did thirteen years ago in the bridge when he left him.

He scoffs for real this time. Who is he kidding for holding on to the same silly hope.

While everything changes, one thing still remains. Sungjin would never be his. Not in the past, not in the present, not in the future.

Natural Chapter 16

So, here we are. The second to last chapter of Natural. Get prepared for quite a ride!

Pregnant women are strange, Harry thought as he watched his wife dip a pickle into a jar of peanut butter. They were lounging on their sofa, the room filled with natural light as the wireless crooned in the background. It was comfortable, so comfortable that Harry had almost been lulled to sleep until he heard a loud crunch and saw his wife eating… that.  Now he may never sleep again.

 Five months into her pregnancy and Ginny had fully embraced its quirks. The unique eating habits, her increased body temperature (she had taken to casting cooling charms on whatever room she was in), the really odd dreams, and who could forget Harry’s personal favorite-- an increased libido. Just the other day Harry had been lounging on their bed studying the playbook Wood had created when Ginny basically appeared from thin air and jumped him. Not that he was complaining...quite the opposite, really.  

 Harry figured they were in the peaceful part of pregnancy. According to the books (because yes, he was actually reading them, Mum), this was the easiest part of the experience. Months seven through birth sounded like one of the layers of Hell and Harry was not overly excited for those months, but fuck he was excited to be a father.

 When they told his parents, his mother had cried and nearly hugged them to death. But when James took Harry aside and told him how his life was about to have a bigger meaning than he would have ever thought, that really hit him hard. Father and son had sat in the study drinking and talking, and honestly, it had become one of Harry’s fondest moments with his father.

 “Harry?” Ginny’s voice broke Harry out of his woolgathering.

 “Yes, Gin?” Harry sat up, ready for any task she had.

 “Could you please massage my feet?” Though Ginny had embraced the changes to her body, she didn’t like all of them. The heartburn and swollen feet were two of the worst. The number of foot rubs Harry had given in the last few weeks alone couldn’t be counted.

 He gestured for her to come closer. “Send them my way.”

 Ginny twisted her body so her back rested against the arm of the sofa and her feet were up in Harry’s lap. He tugged off her socks and took one foot into his hands. His thumbs pressed into her arch with knowledgeable precision.

 Harry moved slowly making sure to give every section of her foot plenty of attention. Based on the satisfied moans coming from Ginny, he was doing a good job.

 “Please quit your day job and become my personal foot masseuse.” Ginny arched her freshly rubbed foot, as Harry moved to the next one.

 “I don’t think Coach Cara will like that much.” Harry couldn’t help but smile at Ginny’s unladylike snort.

 “I’ll tell Cara where he can shove it.”

 “Now, now, no need to get violent.”

 Ginny shrugged. “I need a new way to vent. I can’t just go around knocking basic bitches off their brooms for the next few months like usual.”

 Harry paused his magic fingers and looked up at his wife. “You only did that to me once.”

 “And that was enough for you to be inducted into the basic bitch club.” Ginny took another pickle out of the jar and scooped some peanut butter with it.

 “Such loving words from the future mother of my child,” Harry said sarcastically as he dug the pad of his thumb into Ginny’s heel.

 Ginny looked unperturbed. “You knew what you were in for before you knocked me up. Besides, you love it.”

 Harry set her foot down gently before shifting his body so he lay between her hips. Their breaths mixed as Harry leaned in to kiss her. “More than I can say, even with your peanut butter and pickle breath”

 “Have you seen this?” George flourished the paper at his sister and brother-in-law. The couple were resting on the Burrow’s sitting room sofa, Ginny enjoying an extra slice of pie and Harry a cup of tea. Harry placed his mug on the coffee table and took the paper.

 He quickly scanned over the article that George had folded to, scoffing at the author. “Merlin, they never think before they publish, do they?”

 Ginny leaned onto his shoulder. “They’re talking about my career as if it’s over.”

 George nodded. “That’s what they say on the next page. They say how your impending bundle of joy, who we all pray has his Uncle George’s good looks, will keep you home and off the pitch.”

 Ginny straightened indignantly, her hand naturally coming to rest on her six-month baby bump.  “Just because I’m having a baby doesn’t mean I’m done with quidditch!”

 “Tell that to Witch Weekly,” Fred suggested from his spot by the fireplace.

 “That wouldn’t be the only thing I’d tell those pricks at Witch Weekly,” Ginny muttered darkly. Over the course of her pregnancy, Ginny and Harry had been hounded by the press and it was Ginny’s greatest desire to Bat-Bogey the lot of them. In particular the ever attentive writers at Witch Weekly, who had been harping on about Harry not being the father of their baby, with no evidence whatsoever.  

 “As much as I agree with you, Gin.” Harry placed a hand on his wife’s knee. “I’d rather not have the mother of my child give birth in Azkaban.”

 Ginny raised a ginger eyebrow at him. “That would only happen if they caught me, and I’m pretty sure I’d get away with it.”

 George laughed, nodding his head. “That you could Gin-Gin. It would be just like that time you stole a biscuit from the jar, and you got mum to think it was Ron.”

 “Oh yeah!” Fred shook a finger at his sister. “You are too cunning for your own good. I still don’t know how you convinced mum of that one. Multiple times.”

 Ginny smirked at her twin brothers. “It was rather easy. I just need to send her one of these.” She batted her eyelashes in a way that Harry recognized all too well from the times he hadn’t wanted to do something, and in end had done them. “And then I picked a brother to throw under the bus.”

 Fred let a low whistle. “That’s it?”

 “I would have thought there was more.” George stroked his chin in thought. “What about that time where you made mum think we stole Percy’s favorite quill?”

 “That was you.” Ginny reminded him.

 “Oh yeah. Okay, what about --” Over the course of the next three hours, Harry realized his wife was a nefarious mastermind, and he loved her more for it. But that damn article came back to nag at him throughout the rest of the day whenever left to his own devices.  

 Ginny seemed to still have it on her mind as well because she brought it back up while they finished their nightly routines. “Why is that women are expected to stay home and mind the children?” Harry had already tossed the excess pillows from the bed and crawled into his predetermined side while Ginny had changed into a comfortable pair of sweats and one of Harry’s old shirts. “Just because I want to continue playing after I have a baby doesn’t make me a bad mother.”

 “No, it doesn’t.” Harry faced his wife as she crawled under the covers.

 “Yet, that’s what people will think.” Ginny’s voice was filled with disgust. “I mean I don’t really care what people think, but I still find it fucking annoying.”

 Harry leaned across the small gap between them and pressed his lips to hers, which seemed to be what she needed after her rant. She scooted her body so it was tucked close to his-- well, as close as her extended stomach would allow. He felt her sigh as she pressed her nose into his neck.

 They lay in silence, arms around each other. Content just being there in their bed, where the rest of the world didn’t matter. It was just him and her.

 Harry took a deep breath, inhaling Ginny’s intoxicating scent, before speaking. “I’ve been thinking.”

 “A dangerous pastime, love.” Ginny murmured in a sleepy tone.

 “I know, but what do you think of me minding the baby full time?”

 Ginny shifted in his arms, leaning back so she could look at him in the bare light of the moon shining through the curtain. “What?”

 “Cara is retiring at the end of the year.” Harry guided his hand to rest on her stomach. “And I love quidditch and I do love playing, but not like you do.”

 Ginny reached behind her for her wand and lit the room with a quick wave. When she rolled back to look at him, her eyes blazed like the setting sun. “Are you saying you’re applying for the coaching position?”

 “I’ve already applied and I have it if I want it.” Harry kissed her lightly. “Ginny, I can take the baby with me to practices and what not. There is this little contraption that lets a baby sit on your chest while you walk around. And if the little bugger gets tired I can set up a bassinet in my office with a monitoring charm.”

 “You’ve thought about this a lot, haven't you?”

 “Since the day we found out you were pregnant.”

 Ginny’s jaw dropped. “Seriously?”

 Harry nodded. “I want to do this, Gin. I just need you to be on board with it.”

 “Why wouldn’t I be on board?” Ginny’s hand came up to rub his jaw. “As long as this is truly what you want to do.”

 “It is.” Harry felt like a weight lifted off his chest. “I’ll tell the owner I accept the offer tomorrow.” He took Ginny’s wand, which she had placed in the small gap between them, and turned out the lights.

 They resettled, Ginny turning around so her back was pressed against his chest and his hands could rest on the baby bump. Nothing had ever felt more right to Harry. This was him in his natural habitat. There was no doubt in his mind that he was doing the correct thing.

 The light fluttering pressure on his hand made Harry smile. His child seemed to agree and acknowledged it with a little kick.

 “How’s the wife, Harry?” Sirius asked as he, Harry, and James settled in comfortable lounge chairs. They had put on the Wasps versus Catapults games on the wireless when they had entered Sirius’ ‘study,’ which was never used to study anything except old muggle motorcycle magazines.

 “Good.” Harry smiled at the mere thought of his seven, almost eight, months pregnant wife. “She’s out shopping with Luna today. Apparently, Luna thinks the baby needs some… well, I’m not quite sure what genre it is because Luna said a word I’d never heard, but a certain type of music.”

 “And Ginny’s all for that?” James asked with a raised brow.

 Harry shrugged. “Yeah, she loves Luna so she takes her suggestions seriously.”

 “What is this music suppose to do?” Sirius asked curiously before taking a large gulp from his beer. “What makes it so dire?”

 “Clear all the baby’s chakras.”

 Sirius blinked once, twice, and third time. “Oh good, I was worried about that.”

 James snorted but smiled. “Well other than chakra cleansing music, what else do you two need?”

 “Not much to be honest.” Harry took a sip from his drink. “Ginny’s already nesting. The last three weeks have consisted of us going out on random shopping trips to buy whatever item she’s thought of. But I think we have all the basics.”

 James placed his glass down and stood from his lazy chair. “Not everything. I have something to show you.” He poked his head out the door to yell for his wife. Lily hurried over from the kitchen where she had been talking with Sirius’ current bird (who had made it an unheard of six months).

 Harry accompanied his parents out of the study and towards the attic, Sirius following behind them like a dog. The old creaky stairs of Sirius’ old London house was the only sound between the group.

 Once they reached the door, James turned to Harry. “You know how I’ve been taking that woodworking class?”

 Harry nodded. He still found it odd that his father had taken up the old muggle art form. Though he did find it adorable when his father visited after a class and had wood shavings in his greying hair.

 “Well, I started this project as soon as you told me about the baby.” James opened the door and lit the oil lamps with a wave of his wand. A dark oak rocking chair sat in the middle of the room. Harry forgot how to speak as he moved over to the chair. He brushed his hand across the finished armrest up to the intricate headrest.

 “Dad --” Harry cleared his throat, hoping to dislodge whatever had gotten stuck. “It’s amazing.”

 “Your mother picked out the design and wood color.” James threw an arm over Harry’s shoulder. The headrest had outlines of two quidditch players. One held a quaffle under their arm and the other was speeding towards a snitch. With a bit of magic, the two figures flew past each other, and their heads turning to look back at the other.

 Lily pressed a kiss to Harry’s cheek. “It will be perfect for you and Ginny to rock the little one to sleep.”

 Harry nodded, completely forgoing words as he pulled both his parents into a hug.

 “I swear I’ve become a beached whale,” Ginny moaned as she adjusted her position on the bed. Her bum had become completely numb. Being eight months pregnant had led to an array of unexpected uncomfortable things. The amount of gas she had for starters…

 “The prettiest beached whale I ever did see.” Harry leaned over to kiss her cheek.

 Ginny snorted. “First of all, you shouldn’t agree with the description of beached whale. As the husband, it’s your job to find an alternative comparison. Secondly, if I hadn’t just found the most comfortable position, I would totally hex you for your impudence.”

 Harry smiled at her threat. “Now you wouldn’t want to hex the father of your child, would you?” Ginny just raised an eyebrow. Harry tried again. “Father of your child that wears glasses? Would that deter you?”

 “You know,” Ginny let her voice drop, becoming sultry. “There is something that could, as you put it, deter me.”

 “Oh?” Harry smile slid into a dirty smirk. He adjusted his body so he was on her side of the mattress, his lips an inch from her ear and his fingers at the hem of her shirt. “What might this interference be?”

 “A big bowl of that vanilla ice cream we have.”

 Harry blinked owlishly for a moment, before chuckling. “Out of everything I had to offer, you pick ice cream.”

 Ginny smiled at him. “I think we both know what your preferred distraction would be, that’s what got me into this mess of hormones and cravings.”

 “And wasn’t it a great diversion. It made me forget about losing to the Tornados.”

 “A pick me up wasn't the only thing you got that night.”

 Harry laughed, pressing a final kiss to her lips and her stomach before rolling off the bed. “Right, because it’s my fault you ambushed me while I was in the shower and you were on a faulty potion.”

 “Obviously.”

 Harry smiled to himself as he headed towards the kitchen. He paused in the doorway when Ginny called his name. He spun to see his gorgeous wife propped up on her pregnancy pillow. He still couldn’t get over how amazing she looked while carrying his child. Merlin, his child, who would be born in a month or two...

 In all honesty, Harry didn’t feel prepared at all. He knew all first-time parents felt like this, between talking with his parents and Ginny. Merlin, he was scared. But then he looked at Ginny and couldn't get it out of his head, how their child will be with them in mere weeks. Her freckled nose with his eyes on their baby’s chubby cheeks. Being able to lay in that very bed and just snuggle their baby as they fall asleep. No, Harry wasn’t prepared at all, but he couldn’t wait.

 “Yes, darling?”

 Ginny gave him that look. The look that she only gave him. Her eyes seemed to melt his brain into a puddle of goo, all the while making sure his body knew he was alive. “Don’t forget about the chocolate sauce and cherry.”

 “Only one week until the suspected due date of Ginny Potter.” Mothers reminded the listeners. “Dan, what do you reckon the baby will be? A boy or a girl?”

 “I don’t know.” Dan tapped his chin in consideration. “Witch Weekly claims it’s gonna be a girl because of how she’s carrying, but honestly I’m sensing a boy.”

 “Me too. Harry actually told me last week, after the Puddlemere versus Portree game, that they've decided to wait to find out the gender, so they don’t even know.”

 “Did he have a preference?”

 “No. He just wanted his wife and child to be happy and healthy.” Mothers paused for a second. “Though, he did say he would love to have a daughter that was just as beautiful as her mother. And if that isn’t the sweetest thing you ever did hear…”

 “Harry Potter, star seeker of Puddlemere United, the closet romantic.” Gregory laughed. “If everyone didn’t love our star couple, the birds would be flocking to him.”

 “Ah, here come the teams now.” Mothers tuned the listeners back to the game. “This is Puddlemere versus The Harpies. It will be a different game without Ginny Potter.”

 “This is the first time these two teams will have met this season.” Gregory reminded everyone. “The Harpies’ main driving force last year was Ginny Potter and without her talents… Well, we’ll have to wait and see what the Harpies have up their sleeves.”

 “You can tell Captain Gwenog Jones is thinking along those lines. The glare she just sent Harry Potter.” Mothers chuckled.

 “That’s what he gets for impregnating his wife.” Dan joined his fellow announcer's line of humor. “An angry captain.”

 “Though Ginny is here to watch the game.” Mothers pointed her out in the crowd to Gregory. “She’s here with at least two of her brothers. I think it’s the twin owners of Weasley Wizard Wheezes.”

 “The captains have shaken hands and the balls have been released.” Gregory tuned everyone into the action they were paid to talk about.

 George waited for Ginny to open her eyes before speaking in a low voice. “You’re in labor aren't you?” Over the last hour, George had seen his sister wince three times before shutting her eyes.

 “It’s fine.” Ginny met his gaze. “They’re still far apart. It’s when they come every four minutes that I need to go see Padma.”

 George gave her a skeptical look, but he didn’t know enough to truly argue with her. “Fine. But you’ll tell me as soon as it’s at the four-minute mark?”

 “Of course.”

 Harry took a large gulp of water from his water bottle. The game had been brutal, neither team willing to give any leeway. The number of bludgers Harry had already avoided in the last hour was remarkable.

 He threw the bottle back onto the bench and ran his hand against his forehead, wiping off sweat.

 “Alright, lads.” Cara came over to the squad after talking with Devlin. “The Harpies have come to kill, but we won’t let them. Love, I need you to focus on Hawkins. She’s on point today, and we need to ruin her day.”

 Cara listed off a bunch of plays to help the chasers cover more ground. Finally, he turned to Harry. “Potter, you --” He stopped mid-sentence as a silver coyote ran into the pit.

 “Harry!” The patronus spoke in George’s voice, but with a slight nervousness that was wasn’t normal for the prankster. “Ginny’s in labor. I’m taking her to St Mungo's now.”

 There were ten seconds of stunned silence between the entire team, before Bastille shouted, “Well? Get going, Potter.”

 Harry ran a hand through his hair as the team joined in the chant. His brain couldn’t catch up. Ginny was in labor... Devlin gave him a little shove and finally, Harry’s feet got the message. He ran… straight towards the fireplace in the coach’s office, and to his wife.

Alonso’s Legen-Wait for it-Dary Dating Rules

Marzel and Alonso are basically my new brotop even though they have never met. Thanks to Lady B for looking this over, and @missnobodynobodius and @shasta627 for completely agreeing with me that Alonso = Barney and encouraging me to do all this. 

“Ah Prince Marzel, just the man I was looking for!” A floppy-banged prince who seemed to be about his age slung his arm across the sirena prince’s shoulder, nearly jostling him off his chair.

The scene was at the palace of Paraiso, one of the most luxurious and extravagant palace Marzel had ever seen his life. In fact it was the most. The walls were ceiling to floor golden emitting bright light which unfortunately blinded him everytime he glanced to his sie. This had the embarrassing effect of him tripping more so than usual when he walked.

He had been getting pretty good with his land legs and he had improved enough to play frisbee without falling on his face but he had a feeling that the royals at this year’s retreat were not seeing that progression.

“Who are you?” Marzel made an effort to smile politely but the guy was taking up too much personal space and seemed to have forgotten his greeting in favor of admiring himself in the blindingly golden dinner plates.

“Wha-yes, I’m Prince Alonso, heir to the Royal Throne of Cordoba!” The guy declared with a flourish and paused, obviously expecting some sort of recognition or perhaps applause.

Marzel looked helplessly to the other side of the table where Elena was in deep conversation with her royal wizard, Mateo and the host of the retreat, Princess Valentina and he couldn’t see his sister anywhere.

“Hi?” Marzel gave a weak wave and grimaced at his high-pitched voice, he coughed, “I mean hello.”

“Heh, you really are new to the land, aren’t you?” Prince Alonso sniffed once seeing that Marzel had nothing else to say.

Marzel was about to react defensively to his tone but Alonso leaned toward him conspiratorially, “I see that Elena hasn’t told you about me. I don’t blame her, there are so many brilliant ways to describe me and my looks and my awesome deeds, she couldn’t think of where to begin. It doesn’t matter. Now in the past, I have been accused of being a little bit self-absorbed and just a tiny teeny bit lazy. But no more. I’m turning over a new leaf. And being a new kind of man, I am helpful!”

Marzel didn’t understand why Alonso was telling him all of this so he nodded blankly and paused again seeing that Alonso was waiting for him to say something.

“Congratulations on turning over a new leaf. That’s very...mature of you.” Alonso was still staring at him expectedly and it started to dawn on Marzel what Alonso might be waiting for, “And I’m fine. I don’t need your help. Elena has already helped me.” “Yes, I’m sure Princess Elena has helped you with basic stuff like ruling and social etiquette and blah blah blah. But she hasn’t taught you about life, has she?” Alonso raised a knowing eyebrow.

“Life? I don’t need help with life. I haven’t died yet. I think I can handle it.” Marzel brushed Alonso’s arm off his shoulder.

“You’ve fallen twelve times walking down a hallway.” Alonso pointed out, putting his arm on Marzel again.

“It’s too bright here, how can anyone see?” Marzel grumbled.

“What advice I have to offer, isn’t any advice Princess Elena or anyone else can give. It is bro advice. From now on, I pledge my support to you as a bro and a wingman as you will be mine-” “I haven’t agreed to this.” Marzel protested.

“-Do you know how to get out of a date that you don’t want to be in?” Alonso abruptly asked.

“...No?” Marzel answered. Admittedly, he had never been on a date since he had been busy with royal training and the fact that anyone who dated him had to uphold the standards fitting for sirena royalty. Though there were many fish in the sea, he hadn’t found one that fit that standard yet. But he wasn’t going to admit that.

“It’s called the Lemon Law. In Cordoba, we have a law that if someone buys an item, let’s say a lemon, from a street cart and finds that it is a rotten lemon, the person can return it. Same goes for dates. This applies this to dates. A person has five minutes within the date to decide whether it continues for the rest of the night or not.” Alonso smiled smugly at his knowledge.

“Wow, that’s- I didn’t know.” “That’s why you need me.” Alonso sipped his recently poured drink.

Marzel rubbed his neck as he thought about what Alonso was proposing. It was true that he didn’t know much about land culture beyond what his mother told him from her fragmented memories. And he knew less about girls and romance in the dating world. 

He could ask Elena but it seemed that she was in the same boat as he was dating-wise, ie. no dates just the kingdom. Besides Alonso seemed to know what he was talking about and he kinda liked the idea of having a “bro” as he kept saying.

Marzel clasped hands with Alonso, “I’ll do it. Let’s be bros.”

“Yes!” Alonso crowed, “This is gonna be legen-wait for it-dary! Legendary!”

“Where are we going?” Marzel stumbled s Alonso grabbed his arm to drag him to the bar-room.

“To get you a suit. One of the most important things to attract a woman is a suit. So, let’s suit up!”

_______________________________________________________________________“Why can’t you clean the dishes? I did it yesterday.” Marisa crossed her arms stubbornly.

“Because..just because..I’m older than you!” Marzel retorted.

“That doesn’t mean anything.” Marisa rolled her eyes.

As guests and royals at the retreat, technically they didn’t have to wash the dishes. But their mother said they should take this as a chance to learn about chores on land, and reminded them that she had washed dishes when she was a human. It was about honoring their heritage which they both were sure was some sort of trick because their mom had complained about their laziness in underwater chores.

Marzel considered his words before talking again. Yesterday, after confirming their “bro-lationship” with a suit fitting and celebratory drinks, Marzel had asked Alonso for advice on his problems with dating and girls, even his sister since Alonso said arguing with girls was the same with all of them, no matter the relation.

Alonso had given him the exact argument he should use and he needed to remember how it was said.

“Hmmm sounds annoying. Chores are the worst. So menial. That’s stuff for servants to do like rookie, here.” Alonso pointed to Gabe who was on the other side of the bar with Manuel.

Gabe looked over at them and glared at the arrogant prince, “I don’t do dishes, and I’m not a rookie. I’m the captain of the guard.” “I’m sure you will be soon.” Alonso waved him off.

“I am already.” Gabe corrected, stalking up to them but Alonso ignored him in favor of continuing their conversation.

“Now here’s what I would do if I were in your position. I’d come to the room and she’d leap into my arms and we make out. Her small body leaning against mine, her lips just..”

“Dude, that’s my sister!” Marzel stared at him in horror.

“I wasn’t saying what you should. Just what I would do in that situation. If I was there, we would be getting it on. Not that I would in real life, a bro never touches another bro’s sister unless she makes the first move.” “Just continue.” Gabe hissed through clenched teeth, seeing Marzel’s eye vein throb distressingly.

“Okay fine. We eat dinner and Marisa says, “Sweetie, are you gonna wash that?” Now I say or you should say, “I’m glad you bring that up, Marisa. No, and here’s why.” She gets on my lap, “I know you don’t like a dirty sink. But does that make it my job to clean it? If one day I look up on the living room ceiling and decide I want a replica of my royal portrait up there, would it be your job to paint it?

She says, “No, of course not.”

I say, “Exactly. So darling, by the same logic, if you don’t like a sink full of dirty dishes, shouldn’t it be your job to clean it?”

Then Marisa would understand the reason behind it all, and agree, “Thank you for explaining that. I get so confused.”

“You’re kidding me.” Gabe interrupted, laughing.

Marzel understood the flaws with the argument since they were arguing over whose turn it was to help the kitchen staff, not the fact that they disliked looking at a dirty dishes. However, he was on his third glass of champagne so he had a warm, giddy feeling assuring him that if he said it right, Marisa would see reason just as Alonso said she would.

“Let me finish…” Alonso looked disdainfully at Gabe, “Once I have her attention, it’s time to bring out the big guns. “Look, Marisa I love you. But with the little energy I have after the meetings, I want to shower you with love, not wash some silly dishes.”

And Marisa says, “Oh you’re right, Alonso, you’re always right. I’ll do the dishes from now on. Right after I do this.”

So then the lights dim and she turns around and dances for me. Her butt’s firm, round…”

“Are you going to hit him or should I?” Gabe asked, but Marzel was too busy envisioning an afternoon not having to help with the dishes.

The time had come.

“Marisa, I’m not doing the dishes and here’s why.”

Marisa looked at him irritability. Staring at her, Marzel lost his train of thoughts. The next part of Alonso’s vision called for her to sit on his lap and that was just gross. He remembered that Alonso had been saying his argument had to be modified since they were siblings and now all he could think of were the disgusting phrases Alonso had used followed by the even worse image of Marisa doing them.

It had made so much sense when Alonso said it last night, what was wrong?

He manfully tried to scrape out the appropriate parts of the argument to use and came up with this,“I’m not doing the dishes and here’s why. You don’t want to dishes, but it’s like if I wanted our baby pictures on the wall..I-I-I mean ceiling. All our baby pictures and family pictures painted on this ceiling. Would you do that? No I mean, first. Let me start over. It’s not job to do the dishes because.. Um I? Dance for me. Eww no. I don’t uh-”

“HUH?” Marisa stared at him as if one half become a malandro and he sprouted three more heads. Just a face of confusion and disgust.

“I-ugh” Marzel stuttered then hung his head in defeat, “I’ll do the dishes.”

_______________________________________________________________________“Are you sure you’re reading the map correctly? Give it to me. I’m an excellent navigator, I was the first one in my team to orient us to win the scavenger hunt.” Princess Valentina sighed as she and Marzel wearily walked down the side of one of Paraiso’s lush mountain ranges.

“Here,” Marzel handed it off to her miserably.

It was midnight and what started out as innocent date led to them walking on the side of the mountain for hours, and he was pretty sure it was the same side of the mountain. They weren’t even going around it, just back and forth.

He really wished he never accepted this date.

He didn’t dislike Valentina exactly, it was just that she was too..much for him. She talked so much, usually about herself, always pointing out how Paraiso was the best, best in chocolate, best in sports, best in everything.

With all her talk about how the best she was in everything, he never would have thought she would have interest in him since he wasn’t the best in walking much less second best in subjects..behind her, of course.

But Alonso had pointed out that when she entered the bar, her eyes had went straight towards him and her eyebrow raised before she quickly flounced out followed by her guard, Manuel.

That-the eye contact and eyebrow raise-was a clear sign she was interested in him, which was only confirmed a few days later when Valentina invited him to have a talk about the personal Coronado-Paraiso treaty.

“Personal Coronado-Paraiso romance!” Alonso high-fived him when Marzel told him. Marzel didn’t want that at all. It was too late to back out of the date without potentially offending her, but thankfully, Alonso gave him advice to prevent a girl friend from becoming a girlfriend.

“You see Marzel. The rules for girls are like the rules for gremlins.” “Gremlins?” Marzel never heard of such a creature and wanted to ask but Alonso plowed ahead with his advice as usual.

“Yes, gremlins. Rule number one: Never get them wet. Aka never let them shower at your place.”

Marzel thought that eliminated almost all the sirenas but then reasoned that these rules must be specific only to mortal girls.

“Rule number two: Keep them away from sunlight. Aka don’t ever see them during the day.”

Rule number three: Never feed them after midnight. Aka she doesn’t sleep over, and you don’t have breakfast.” 

“What about brunch? Is brunch cool? Marzel asked. Marisa had recently introduced him to brunch through Elena and he rather enjoyed the idea of having a snack between breakfast and lunch.

Alonso looked at him in disgust, “No. Brunch is never cool.”

In an effort to keep things platonic, Marzel requested to have the meeting at night since he never seen the moon rise in Paraiso before which Valentina eagerly grabbed on to the idea to lead up to Paraiso’s highest peak and show him the best view.

The date was not romantic in the slightest way. Valentina had kept things professional and they discussed how trade would be conducted between their two kingdoms. 

Marzel had figured this platonic nature was due to the nighttime setting just as Alonso said it would and was relieved when the meeting finished at 9 without any sentimental overtones.

It was when they left that things went downhill literally. Valetina said they must have taken a wrong turn at the waterfall or somewhere because they had been walking for three hours and there was no sign of the valley or the palace and the nighttime heat was covering them like a smothering blanket. As Princess Valentina proudly told him when he said it didn’t feel cold at all up in the mountains, “Paraiso has one of the warmest climates in the Ever realm. No one suffers from hypothermia or frostbite here.” “Just potential heatstroke” Marzel thought darkly to himself as felt sweat dripping from his forehead down the bridge of his nose.

“Marzel.” Valentina panted, fruitlessly fanning herself with her hand, “Can you hand me some of the water?”

Marzel was about to hand her the water when he remembered Alonso’s rule about not getting the girl wet.

Marzel clutched the water bottle from the picnic basket she had brought, and promptly poured it all over himself, “Sorry. Sirena, you know. I need more water to compensate for being on land for so long.”

“Oh okay.” Valentina nodded understandingly which made Marzel immediately feel bad for his lie. Her hair which had been put in her usual ponytail had frizzed out and bigger thanks to the humidity and her face seemed to have gone pale from exhaustion.

They walked for what seemed like miles but must have been a few minutes when they crashed through a brush to see the palace.

“Yes!” They cried simultaneously. They would have run to their destination, but tiredness made their feet drag oh so slowly on the manicured lawns of the Paraiso palace.

“Marzel, do we have any food left in the basket?” Valentina asked weakly.

Marzel frowned, “No.” There had been a few apples left in the basket but he had thrown them out after their meeting in compliance with the third rule of making sure she didn’t eat after midnight.

He took another good look at the princess who seemed slumped, dejected and near collapse.

“You don’t look yourself, do you want me to carry you?” Marzel approached her, gently taking hold of her shoulder.

“No I can handle it” Valentina slurred and fainted onto the grass.

Adrenaline took over Marzel’s body, tiredness forgotten, he picked the princess up in a bridal carry and raced her over to the palace’s front door where Manual opened it, gasped, grabbed Valentina out of his arms and took her to the infirmary.

Marzel paced restlessly, guilt gnawing at his stomach. Who cares if she wanted a date with him? He should have let her have the food and water! It was all his fault that this happened-

The royal physician opening the door for visitors interrupted Marzel’s guilt-ridden reverie. Manual pushed Marzel out of the doorway in his rush to get to the princess.

Manual tenderly lifted Valentina’s face towards his as she slowly opened her eyes, and smiled, “Oh Manual, I’m fine. Just a little dehydration. I’m not going to die.”

“I was so worried.” Manual murmered in a choked up voice and swept her up in a deep, full kiss.

“You’re dating?” Marzel meant to only say it in his head, but it came out in an awkward squawk.

The couple turned to him, Valentina contedly resting her head in the crook of Manual’s neck.

“Yes, we don’t like to show it off in front of everyone but we are very much in love.” Valentina answered, rubbing her nose with her guard.

“She’s my shining light, and I’m her shining knight.” Manual agreed.

“I could never lay my eyes on someone else.” Valentina mused.

But she did---wait. Marzel thought back to the bar. The guards had been behind him and Alonso. She must have sent that eye contact and eyebrow to Manual.

This whole thing had truly been a Coronando-Paraiso treaty meeting. With a groan and Marzel face-palmed himself.

_______________________________________________________________________”Do it. Do it, Naked man!” Alonso cheered as he passed by Naomi’s room.

“I will. I will. Just go already.” Marzel shoved Alonso away from the door to the room.

“What pose are you doing?” Alonso called

“Just go!” Marzel yelled at him and shut the door.

This is going to be a long one...

But I really need to type all of this out. Because I am hurting pretty badly...Thanks to those who actually read all of this.

So, my husband and I no longer feel safe in our apartment. Since the beginning of the year we have been trying to make arrangements for us to move into a house. He is going to be switching jobs soon, so we wanted to move in town closer to his job--and our family lives in that area too. Since my husband works for the state, he is guaranteed $6,000 for a down payment...buuut the house we really want is not considered a ‘house’ in the states eyes (it is a double wide)...so they won’t give it to us. And all the actual houses in the area are waaay out of price range. It was hurdle after hurdle.

BUT! To my surprise I had about $4,000 in a secret savings account! My papa (from my dad’s side) opened up a savings account for me. Unfortunately that wasn’t enough for us to get a mortgage. My husbands credit score wasn’t the best. He was a victim of identity theft and wasn’t able to dispute all of his debt. SO...guess where all that $4,000 went?? To all his delinquencies. His credit score is way better now!

Just when we got things settled, we realized that we are now down to the wire. Our lease is up this month. Times up! We only have $100 in savings at the moment.

Our choices are:

-Renew our lease for another year: That’s not gonna happen. Not only do we feel unsafe, our rent would go up to $650.

-Renew a Six Month lease: The rent would be $700. It would take us even LONGER to save up for a down payment. So that is out.

-Do a Month to Month lease: Pay $750 until we leave. Again...can’t do it.

We tried looking at other apartments. They are either too expensive, or they don’t allow animals period. On top of that our agent told us NOT to apply for anything else because we can’t afford another hit on our credit. That is out.

We asked my mother in law if we could move in to her house for a couple months so we can save for a down payment (it would only take 3 pay periods). Of course we would help pay bills. It’s only fair. But there is no room. So that is out.

Our other possible option was to move in with my mother...that wouldn’t be very good for my mentality. But I was willing to put up with the mental abuse than to stay at my apartment--it is that bad here. When I presented our issue to her she was like “I need to think. I will call you back later tonight. I need to drink.” I waited and waited...8 o’clock at night I finally get a text. “I am still thinking. I’m going to bed. Night.”

Now...I haven’t even asked her if we could move in temporarily yet. I will add that when I told her that we were asking our mother in law to move in--she said “That would be a great way for you to save!!” But when I told mom that she wasn’t able to house us, she changed her tune and was like. “Yeah, that is a lot to ask of someone!”

Then my husband and I thought that maybe my family would consider us moving in my great grandma’s house. It is next door to my mother’s house. But my GG passed away awhile back...so the house is empty. The only thing about that is my Grandparents don’t want animals in the house. But it was still worth a shot...right??

Didn’t hear from my mother until the day before our Father’s Day get together. And she didn’t even bring anything up. She just wanted to know if we were going to bring anything....umm....nothing?!?! I’m flat broke right now?!?!

The day of our get together we tried to explain our situation...but they were only half listening. They seriously didn’t give a shit when I told them that we didn’t feel safe. We gave up. Then, I guess since they thought we were done, they started suggesting apartments--even though we JUST TOLD THEM that we aren’t able to apply anywhere else. Because we CAN NOT take another hit on our credit, the apartments are either too expensive or they DO NOT allow animals. You know what my grandma suggested next??

I saved each one of my animals. I saved my bunny from an abusive man. My husband and I saved our cat...he was a feral cat. He had an eye infection and almost lost his eye. And we saved our puppy from a shelter--they said that no one was going to adopt him because he was too shy. He was skin and bone...they were trying to feed him dog food for BIG dogs. He is a FUCKING chihuahua!!

I am getting off topic. THE POINT IS...I raised them! THEY ARE MY CHILDREN!! And you have the NERVE to tell ME to just get rid of them?! LIKE IT IS SO SIMPLE?! Do you know how HARD WE FOUGHT to keep our bunny rabbit?! We were lucky to find this apartment (in a way) because they let us keep her. Why the fuck would I just give them up?! Not only would it be unfair to me and my husband...it would be unfair to them! We are attached to each other!! WE ARE A FAMILY!

Anyway...we didn’t even bother asking for anything from them. Because if they truly cared for us they would have at LEAST listen to us, and do everything in their power to help us out. Like...it really hurts me that they didn’t even show fear or concern for me. Their only solution was “Oh, get rid of your animals because OBVIOUSLY that is your ONLY problem.”

I am so heartbroken. Really. They care for me to a degree...they will buy me stuff in bulk...(like detergent, deodorant, shampoo...etc.) but they don’t care if I am safe or not. They don’t care about my mental state. They never bother keeping in touch with me to see how I am doing. They just...flat out don’t care about me. For example my own mother will put everything before me--work, auctions, flea markets...she will talk to grandma and my sister on the phone. She will even call some dying dude she just met because he doesn’t have any family left (which is really nice and all. Really. I think it is great.) But she doesn’t bother to call me, HER DAUGHTER, to see if I am doing okay--knowing that I have a crippling mental illness. KNOWING that I have suicidal thoughts. Don’t care.

Anyway, a friend of mine asked her mother if she would rent out one of her rooms to us...we are having dinner with them tonight to discuss things. I hope everything works out. But me being an IDIOT...I told my mom the good news...instead of being happy, relieved, or excited...she was like “...well that is good I guess. It’s not easy living with someone else.”

While all of this is going on, the car is depreciating at an almost exponential rate and the top it all off, it is a requirement by our government to pay for it. Now I do undestand its place but there needs to be some type of adjustment in the way that this system works. I mean, while they're collecting money on your insurance, they are reinvesting it and making money off of your money that you will never get back and ultimately never use....I'm annoyed. Car insurance wrong information coverage upon car purchase..?

i bought a new truck, i am a first time car buyer and got the independent insurance agent the dealer had.... the agent told me that he was informed by the insurance agent that i will have a one (1) year coverage for the auto insurance as well as the amount of my monthly premium.. when i got the policy i was shocked to find out i only got six months coverage for the insurance and my monthly premium increased... they got PROGRESSIVE as the insurance company. i have already paid the required first six months (according to the agent) insurance premium and have to pay monthly for the remaining 6 months... which is not the case when i got my policy... is there a way how to handle, change this car insurance that i got? if not how could i send any complain to certain authorities/agencies for this kind of activities? any help is appreciated""

Biography: New York wasn’t always Gaby’s home. She was born in Patterson, New Jersey to traditional Catholic Colombian parents as the youngest of four children (3 boys and herself). What they didn’t have in money, they made up for in love and togetherness. Getting spoiled wasn’t exactly possible with the lack of funds, but the Ramirez family did what they could. For example, her entire family funded her quinceanera. That was only one of the many examples of how the Ramirez family came together. Another being the way Gaby would gather her huge family and put on impromptu comedy shows. The girl had a talent for entertaining and her family saw that. Her parents applied for a scholarship to a local catholic all girl school with a great performing arts program.

Gaby did what she was told and was well-behaved for the most part. So, when she became pregnant in her junior year, her family was completely shocked and heartbroken. As it stood, she was the child who held the highest promise in attending college and making something of herself. (By this time, her brothers were either in jail or in the military). Gaby expected her father to have the hardest time with things, but it was her mother who kicked her out and asked her to not come back. Gaby had nowhere else to turn but her boyfriend and his family. That move was anything but fruitful. Miguel Angel and his family said they wanted no part in the child’s life. He was a year older and on the receiving end of a scholarship to Rutgers University.

Things were hard for the girl going forward, but she refused to not land on her feet. Gaby dropped out of high school and took the GED. Even though she wanted to go to college, she had a child to think about now and Gaby wanted to give everything to that child. Gaby called her grandmother who lived in New York and asked for her help. Mariana was disappointed in how irresponsible Gaby had been, but was proud of how she wanted to take responsibility now. She took the girl in and Gaby promised to carry her own weight. A promise she never went back on.

Gaby took a job at Hooters and worked until she was 21, and took bartending courses. However, she considered it her side job. Gaby went from club to club booking as many comedy gigs as she could. Despite the dark times she faced, Gaby used humor to get through it all and people seemed to love it.

Gaby now hosts The Gift of Gab on The Pink Ladies Comedy Sirius XM radio station and books gigs at comedy clubs around the city. Her son, Javier “Javi” Ramirez, is now 8 years old and turning into a little entertainer himself. She couldn’t be prouder and often says being a mother is her favorite job.

Mickey Leilani: Gaby and Javier moved into Mickey's apartment after an ad was put up in ACup. Mariana suggested that moving closer to where the radio show was recorded would make life easier on Gaby. She is worried about being an inconvenience but has been playing it off pretty well. She knows that Mickey's ex-roommate had a kid but she does what she can to make sure Javi doesn't do anything too crazy. Like rig any pranks throughout the apartment. Not that that has happened at least three times already.

April Showers: Gaby has always loved sports and staying active so it was only natural for her to try to join the team. She likes the camaraderie of the team. Javier plays soccer so she has a small buddy to practice with and he can be seen watching the girls play on a regular basis.

Quinn + Maisie Fabray: Gaby was thankful when she met Quinn at ACup. It’s nice to have someone who understands the single mother lifestyle. It’s also great to have a playmate for Javi. She adores Maisie and how polite she is. She couldn’t think of a better influence for her son. She also likes to tease Quinn about them possibly being future in-laws.

Hunter Clarington + Anaya Sharma: With Javi, Gaby doesn’t go out much, but when she does it’s either at ACup or the Library. While she finds Hunter’s womanizing ways and insistent flirting annoying, she likes the bar. Anaya is her favorite bartender. She likes the girl’s down to earth style and thinks she’s fun to talk to.

Sookie Montgomery: Gaby’s grandmother had a stroke a few months back and she was taken to the NYU Medical Center. She was crying in the hallway when Sookie came to announce that she would be the resident in charge of her care. Dr. Montgomery has been great with her grandmother and Mariana has kind of fallen in love with her Southern charm. To thank her, Gaby took her out for a drink and they’ve been friends ever since.

Kitty Wilde: Gaby has always loved fashion and happens to be a fan of Kitty’s style. Although she usually hates an overly sassy attitude, Gaby finds Kitty entertaining and tends to go her way for fashion advice and updates.

Maria Jotuni - Huojuva talo (The Tottering House)

The first thing I ought to say is that this is probably one of the best novels I’ve ever read. I am both proud and a little sad to say that it was written by a Finnish writer/playwright Maria Jotuni in 1936, and published posthumously 20 years after the writers death in 1943 - proud because this truly amazing work was written by a fellow Finn, and sad because it was never translated. The major themes of this work - love, sacrifice, good and evil - are universal, and I personally think it’s a shame that only the Finns (and a few curiosities who speak our freaky language) are able to enjoy it. Nevertheless, I am going to write a few words about this novel, and why I loved it, so if you are 1) familiar with Finnish: Wonderful! You should read this post and then run to the book store or the library as fast as you can, get this book in your hands and read it with the speed of light like I did, 2) not familiar with Finnish: Maybe this novel could be a reason so start learning! Warning: I’ve heard it’s pretty painful, kind of like falling down stairs (which is what our language also sounds like according to some people), but those who manage it are unstoppable. All right, lets get started!

The Tottering House describes the life of a young woman named Lea, who is bright, independent and resourceful despite her modest upbringing. She has an alcoholic father who she loves and nurses like a child, a strict mother she seems to either despise or admire depending on how she has treated her husband, a baby-sister who she adores but doesn’t really understand because of their opposite personalities, and a grandfather who is her mentor and confidant when she’s a child. Their family is rather poor, at least in the 1930′s Finnish standards, but they get by with the help of Lea’s grandfather, who owns a general goods store. Lea has planned to apply for university as soon as she can, and wants to get an education so that she can provide for her family. This doesn’t really pan out, however, because her grandfather and father both pass away in a short period of time. Lea ends up applying for a regular office job, through which she meets her future husband - and tormentor - Eero.

Eero and Lea are married very quickly after their first encounter, and at the beginning Lea thinks her new husband is truly a good person, a real gentleman and a stable provider of the family. Sure, it seems a bit strange that she has to keep book of everything (and I mean everything!) she buys, and that her new husband grits his teeth in anger every time Lea asks him for money to buy groceries and other normal things for their home. Maybe Eero is just being extremely prudent, but making his wife eat cheaper food and in less amounts than he himself does, and making her feel worthless because she doesn’t have any money of her own (Eero forbids her from working in the office or anywhere else), sounds wrong even to our kindhearted heroine. Eero also starts to get short episodes of rage and violence, usually after talking about money, when he throws or brakes things or says something really degrading to his wife. Lea, however, is confident her husband is a good and loving person despite his manners, and believes he is just doing what is best for the family. Of course it turns out eventually that he is not.

Over the years Lea and Eero have three children, who Lea adores, but who Eero couldn’t give less about. Eero is mostly staying out late somewhere and with people Lea knows nothing about, or seducing the newest of the many maids (and Leas little sister) that go through their household over the years. They all fall victim to Eero’s charms, and to everyone else it seems quite clear what is happening between Eero and these women (and sometimes girls) except for Lea. She decides to keep believing in her husband and the home they build together, even though she realizes that their house and their life together is tottering pretty badly. Oh, and the episodes Eero had in the beginning turned physically violent towards Lea around the time their first child was born. He hits and strangles her, brakes her ribs, and even tries to drown her in a lake one time. On top of this, he is still vicious in his mental violence as well, trying to make her feel as worthless as he possibly can and ostracizing her from her family and friends. The only solace for Lea are her children for whom she can evidently endure anything - also, at this point she thinks of her husband more as a person who can’t really control himself and whom she has to care for, than anything else. She is prepared to sacrifice her own happiness for her children, who she believes need their father in their lives and who are financially supported by him. The children, however, are extremely fearful of their father and walk on eggshells their whole childhood, and eventually Eero starts using physical violence against them too. Lea desperately wants her children to see their father in a good light and love him, but she doesn’t realize it is impossible after they have witnessed what he has done to their mother for all those years.

This was a very truncated summary of the events in the novel, but this post is already longer than my Bachelor’s thesis so I’ll stop here. I shall not reveal the ending of the novel, but I will say that it is a happy one (or at least it offers some consolation for both Lea and her family, and the reader). This novel is not an easy read, and it really tears your heart apart at various points, so why on earth did I love it so much? First of all, the description of characters is phenomenal. Period. Lea is the embodiment of kindness and forgiveness, she’s a loving parent and a fateful spouse. She truly loves her husband, despite all the horrible things he does to her, and wants to make their relationship work at any cost. Her character and thoughts are discussed in great detail, and that’s probably the reason why Lea becomes so important to the reader from very early on. The things she has to endure and the sacrifices she has to make truly brake your heart to bits. However, for a modern-day person it can be hard to understand some of the logic behind Lea’s actions (or lack of them really) throughout the book: why didn’t Lea divorce her husband, why didn’t she inform the police about the beatings of herself and her children, why didn’t she just leave, and so on.. At first, I myself thought that Lea was being really naive believing in her husband’s lies, and that their marriage would work out. I was even a little bit annoyed at her impotence. However, I soon realized that she was actually fully financially dependent on Eero, she didn’t want her children to live without their father, and she truly loved her husband despite the things he did to her, and didn’t want him to get into trouble with the law. Also, in the 1930′s appearance was very important, and divorcing was thought of as something very shameful - a failure. And even though she didn’t want to show or admit it, Lea was probably very much afraid of her husband - for both her own and for her children’s sake. All of these things made me realize that leaving your home, financial support and someone you truly love, without any knowledge of the future, is extremely difficult, so it’s understandable why Lea couldn’t do it. However, I do believe that she should have left Eero, if not for herself, then for the children. I can’t even imagine how afraid they must have been for the health of thei mother and for themselves, and how that must have affected their whole later life. It is actually mentioned in the book that the oldest of the children was very reserved around other people, so the writer does acknowledge the impact their abusive father must have had on them, even though at that time domestic violence was tolerated to some extent and even thought of as normal. The description of domestic violence - both mental and physical - and how a person might react to it is very vivid, uncensored and real in this novel. It was actually noted by the grandson of the writer that some of the events in the novel are heavily influenced by the experiences of Maria Jotuni herself in her own marriage. This is not hard to believe, because the violent episodes of Eero are extremely well described, even down to facial expressions and noises he makes. Looking at Eero’s behavior, knowing what we know now about mental illnesses, he was probably sick just like Lea (and occasionally he himself) thought. However, in the 1930′s people knew next to nothing about mental illnesses, so getting treatment was impossible. Even though Eero is truly horrible to Lea in this novel, his episodes of deep melancholy and violent highs might be symptoms of the bipolar disorder for example, and because of this I do feel sorry for Eero as well. He was probably having quite bad, unsolvable problems with himself that he (and nobody else at that time) didn’t really understand. Lea, however, tried. I feel in a way this book is not only about a violent marriage, but also about coping with a mental illness, even if the writer didn’t know it back when she wrote it. It’s been over 80 years since this book was written, and the themes it discusses are still significant and easy to relate to. This is one of the reasons I think this book is truly amazing and so ahead of its time.

In summary I could say that this book is one of the best descriptions of coping with violence and an unstable person I have ever read. It also discusses quite pleasantly the many variants of a parent-child relationship. The main theme of the novel is the encounter of good and evil (or love and hate) in the form of Lea and Eero, and how the bad deeds of one person can effect so many - and on the other hand, how one good deed can heal so much. This book also reminds the reader how resilient people can be, and how far we are willing to bend for those we love. It’s a 10/10 for me, truly one of the best novels I’ve ever encountered.
