What if the reason Till uses the wrong hand and doesn't have the branding is... Because that isn't Till at all? What if it's Io?

There's also a weird upside down blue triangle between Till's hand and his cheek, basically would've been the reflection of the Till in the mirror. I don't know what's up with that and why it's there but it bothers me, like it's a fragment taken out of a puzzle and matches the background more than the colors used on Till himself.

I was so sure I had posted this, and yet I can’t find it on my blog. I went back watching it and now reposting. Sorry if I had already shared it and I am behaving like a boomer, but it’s such a nice interview.

It has a whole different vibe, it’s really cozy, reminiscing. Almost melancholic, but in a good way.

He recounts their first meeting, remembering their first hug and how it immediately filled him with a sense of warmness. And she says she’s so happy it was him, cause she can’t imagine doing it (this experience) with anybody else.

They talk about the first time they got the call about being the next leads, and their emotions.

I love the way Luke lights up when he talks about Colin and this experience as a whole. He looks like such a nice guy, so open, so generous, so good, deep inside, in the old-fashioned way. Like he has a pure heart. And he has such vibrant clear eyes, so full of life and curiosity, he animates so much when he talks about this season, but at the same time there’s also a tiny shade of insecurity inside them at times, and that is so sweet.

When he says that going back for pick ups was a treat? My goodness you feel like kissing him for such an admission. For such bravery in admitting one’s indulgence in one’s feelings of nostalgia. And Nic goes along saying they both felt kinda sad it was over and to have to say “goodbye”.

I love that he finds this one the steamiest season so far, cause that proves him a very uncommon observer/perceiver. So above range. So subtle in his intakes. He feels so strongly, he can tune in with romantic emotions in such un uncommon way for a man. Although being an actor can obviously help, he comes across as such a delicate soul. One of us, so to speak. And he’s so right. This season is the “steamiest” and not because it has some “visual” quality in it (season 1 was way more smutty) but it is allegedly due to the subtle sexiness of little moments like the when they are talking under the tent and he stares at Pen licking her lips or when he goes to talk to her and can’t see anything but the firmness of her lips or the longing in his eyes, when he enters in their bedroom and can’t help desiring her and he struggles to stay true to his “feelings”. And in turn, the finale, as short as their encounter in the cut, is quite steamy, very passionate: the rapture in his eyes, the way she caresses his chest, how she arches her spine during intercourse, and then reaches forward to get him closer, kissing him full mouth.

I love the way they look in total sync when it comes to their emotions, over anything work related really. The way they seem to finish each other sentences and have a way to foresee where the other is going even before hearing what they are saying. I love how they look e-o in the eyes when answering, as if unconsciously checking to one another to see what the other thinks.

I also noticed when Nicola said she hasn’t been in love since she was 9; it made me think; gave me the feeling she’s very guarded when it comes to love and I can just imagine how’s hard that must be. She comes across as so strong, confident, straightforward and yet when it comes to let one’s barriers down, she’s just one of us.

And the way this chat ends… I mean, the feels... I am believing they are the reason this weird expression boxing with English grammar has been invented. How they acknowledge how nice and kinda liberating it felt talking about this strange kind of melancholy descending upon them when they wrapped the season.

I think it’s my favorite interview so far. IDK it feels so genuine. So not PR. So just them.

I sat down to write my reaction post to the second ep of HOTD and…realized Idk how to approach it, where to start. And not because I hated every single thing about it – like with ep1 there were lots of good or at least interesting moments. There were other choices I wouldn’t have personally liked in any circumstance but that weren’t necessarily bad in and of themselves if they’d been in another show, surrounded with other context or other scenes. The problem is how ridiculously biased this writing is and how that bias and the ridiculousness of it permeates everything, even the parts that were good or fine or reasonably in character. We knew, of course, even from S1, that the writing was biased. But this season it feels especially blatant.

How am I supposed to feel about say…Jae’s funeral? On one hand, a gut-wrenching scene, carried so well by Olivia and Phia’s superb understated acting. It’s a scene that has every reason to be there – royal funeral processions/spectacles were (and still are) normal. And even if it’s not a regular occurrence in this universe (questionable), it’s a very good and smart play by Otto. On the other hand, is it not suspect that the funeral of this child was less of a melancholy moment of mourning like Luke’s funeral (despite the obviously grieving family) but focused on Helaena’s panic attack at being too close to too many people, and with the distraction of Jae’s cart getting stuck in the mud (was that supposed to be symbolic of something???). Do we not remember TB shrieking long before the episode aired that the Greens have a public funeral for Jae “just to make the Greens look bad”? These people are known for the worst faith takes, so what does it say that the writers apparently agree with them?

How am I supposed to feel about Alicent’s inability to successfully, if at all, to comfort her children? Is this a potentially interesting exploration of how her own grief, guilt, self-blame/low self-esteem, and complicated relationship with her kids due to their common and individual family traumas (and, in Helaena’s case…neurodivergence, I guess?) have and are affecting her? Or is it just a low-key attempt at character assassination, given that last season she was shown as perfectly capable of showing affection to her children (more than one with Aemond, hugging Helaena and making other attempts when she was less receptive, even kissing Aegon at the coronation despite their turbulent relationship)?

Is Alicent’s self-blame and guilt a potentially interesting exploration of how grief can affect people, of what happens when a person feels they are breaking some moral or ethical or religious code of conduct that they sincerely believe in/believe they can be punished for breaking? Or does the narrative blame her too/knows that a large chunk of the audience will too or at least will find the self-blame and guilt pathetic or unsympathetic (because goodness knows that’s all Twitter/X has to say on the matter, it seems).

How am I supposed to feel about Aegon hanging the ratcatchers? Of course, Otto is right – this was a terrible thing to do, not just because it was politically a misstep, but first of all because there were many innocent people executed without trial. It’s a canonical event, and in context of Aegon’s grief and fury, it’s interesting in and of itself, it’s part of the commentary on the wreckage that war and nobles’ games cause. I’d have no issue with it, except…. Why was this made into a literal cartoon-villain-esque kick the dog moment? By making me feel sorry for the sad, cute puppy am I supposed to think that hanging Cheese was somehow wrong? After he sawed off a child’s head? And why is it that the smallfolk get angry when Aegon hands the ratcatchers but not when Rhaenys trembles dozens of smallfolk in the dragon pit? How come Aegon is held accountable for all his mistakes, at least by the people closest to him, and Criston very specifically sends a kingsguard member to impersonate his twin and kill Rhaenyra, but the show removed maximum responsibility from Daemon and of course made sure that Rhaenya was just appalled by the whole thing. (And suddenly cares about Helaena? I actually rolled my eyes at that line so hard it hurt.)

What am I to think of the messy/awkward/complicated TG family dynamics? They’re interesting! They’re fun! They could make for some great television (and fic lol). I could/should/would enjoy this. But on the other hand, when TB get all these bonding moments, or the potential messiness (e.g. Rhaena feeling ignored by her father) is ignored in like 85% of situations? And when this imbalance is not at all in the book? (When it feels like they wanted to cut/held off on Daeron specifically because he was so sweet and mild tempered and beloved by everyone?) It becomes frustrating, not fun.

At what point do I need to decide that this show isn’t worth it? After all, I think the sentiment that “maybe this is just not telling the kind of story you want to hear/watch” is generally a wise approach. Except…that would hold if this was an original show or if it was one of those “loosely based on/inspired by” things that were not pretending to be adaptations. But when you’re advertised an adaptation, you’re not coming in blind. Ideally, you’re coming in knowing what sort of story you’re coming for, at the very least. Unlike  ASOIAF, the Dance is a fully finished story. There shouldn’t have been any “nasty surprises” like some people got in the last seasons in GoT…

But they mentioned Daeron by name. Tom’s acting is incredible. We know I’m not going anywhere for now lmao.

Maybe I won’t do my usual type of notes/reaction post this time, after all I’ve said so much of what I most feel right now anyway.

AHHHHH this is the best question ever! Thank you so so much for asking and sorry I took SO long to respond, I have been curating my tastes all day. So with that...

Lets start with Sejanus:

I went with two entirely different aspects of his personality to relate these songs to. The first being his anger and defiance towards the Capitol.

First, we have a line from Kaleo's "Brother Run Fast" which I think describes his canon relationship to Marcus PERFECTLY. Then, we have a line from another Kaleo song "Free the Slave" which represents his death and the tone of the song is very indignant which I think fits quite well.

THEN we have the overwhelming sadness, the guilt, (the inherent boyfailure characteristics) represented by these two lyrics

The first is from "Strangers" by Ethel Cain, where I like to think he is saying these words to his mother after he's passed. (Ignore the part about green eyes) The second is from "Funeral" by Phoebe Bridgers which I think encapsulates his guilt and the feeling as if he's trapped in a gilded cage.

Bonus Sejarcus Lyric from Phoebe Bridgers' "Savior Complex"

I picture this from Sejanus's POV, and it's just... idk I feel like it fits them very well.

Okay now, Marcus:

He definitely is NOT no millionaire's son. I think this song depicts his anger toward Sejanus and the Capitol as a whole, and the unfairness inherent to his position in the games.

Reaper:

This is from Kaleo's "Broken Bones" and it's just... perfect (other than the fact that Kaleo is white and Icelandic and singing a very obvious enslaved resistance song... IDK man I just like his voice). But "some might say I talk loud, see if I care" I think shows his rebellious spirit incredibly well.

Jessup:

This is wholeheartedly inspired by @persephoneprice's fic Pink Skies. I just think it fits him. I think he is a very family oriented person.

Tigris:

A song about holding on to hope for my painfully hopeful girl. I tie the melancholy vibes of this song to her losing faith in Coriolanus.

The Covey:

I LOVE this soundtrack, and considering it has "Keep On The Sunny Side" in it already, it fits the Covey's folk/ballad style of music quite well. I would go so far as to say I consider these songs to canonnically exist in THG. Also "Didn't Leave Nobody But The Baby" is Barb Azure's song.

Vesta (Ma) Plinth:

The first song I think represents her sadness and anger at Strabo following Sejanus's death, and honestly fits your most recent fic about their relationship quite well (the fic, by the way, was incredible as always, and can't believe I forgot to comment on it). The second is more of a stretch, but it's kind of a folk religion/ancient song in vibes, and I think Vesta is very religious, so therefore I think of her when I hear this song.

Strabo:

Angry song for an angry man. Also the verse:

Okay now onto the main trilogy characters...

Gale:

These are both songs about how devastating coal mining is on both the people that work in the mines and the community surrounding them, which I think is a lot of what inspired Gale's rebellious fire, so these are his songs.

Katniss:

I picked two very different songs for her. the first is an almost haunting song that involves, of course, fire (I can't not relate fire to the girl on fire) that is almost like a warning to what cruelty causes (ex. "Nothing scares me more than the stranger at my door who I've failed to give shelter, time, and warmth). The second is a very hopeful song that I feel represents Katniss' true love of humanity and especially the people in D12. She is angry, yes, but is that way because she believes in a better future.

Prim:

Prim is hope incarnate for Katniss, she represents goodness in the world, and I think she reflects that hope very poignantly, so she gets a hopeful song which promises relief in the future.

Finnick:

This song screams desperation, and I feel that Finnick is a very desperate person. Also Mitski just fits him.

Last but not least, Commander Paylor:

Commander Paylor honestly just sounds like Tracy Chapman, and this song is about enacting change and being dissatisfied with the status quo, so its her song. Another Chapman song that fits her is "Talkin' About a Revolution".

After 6 months, Jeremy comes back to the bar, but what he sees shatters his heart. he sees Jean across the table from some guy. He tries to play it down by saying it's just a friend, but as Jean leans towards him and captures his lips, Jeremy knows he can't lie to himself anymore.

His music turns fickled with jealousy. It was still met with glee from his fans, but he drank and popped pills almost every day trying to get that damned image of Jean out of his mind. Jean finds him one day, beside the bar.

He attempts to make conversation, but Jeremy is feeling bitter, and he is so hurt. Jean was the one who told him to chase his friends, Jean was the one who promised him that he'd wait for him as they kissed their goodbyes, but he had already found another man.

Jean didn't seem remorseful. He just seemed melancholy. he says to Jeremy that one day, he'd look back and realise that Jean was the one that would hold him back. He didn't want him to choose between his career and Jean because either way, they'd both be unhappy.

Jean had a partner who chose his career over him. He did encourage him, but Kevin had left him with a shattered heart and that was not a situation Jean would like to repeat again. Especially since it would hurt more coming from Jeremy.

onceler wandered through the town. it had been days since he set foot in a place like this, preferring the solitude of his forest life. but today, something drew him back to the hustle and bustle of civilization.

as he strolled through the crowded streets, memories from his past flitted through his mind. memories of a time when he wasn't alone, when laughter echoed through the air, and the world seemed brighter. his thoughts inevitably turned to a girl, a girl who had been his best friend since childhood.

he shook his head, trying to dispel the melancholy thoughts. the past was the past, and he had learned to embrace it. yet, as fate would have it, he collided with someone in the middle of the busy street.

"watch where you're going, big guy," a voice chided, and onceler looked down to see a familiar face.

you returned the hug, a mixture of surprise and joy evident in her expression. "onceler? is it really you?"

he pulled away slightly, holding you at arm's length to take in the changes. you really had grown, a far cry from the little girl he remembered.

"i can't believe it's you," you said, a tear escaping the corner of her eye. "i never thought i'd see you again."

onceler chuckled, wiping away the tear gently. "i guess fate had other plans for us."

the reunion between you two continued as you roamed the town, catching up on the years you spent apart. it was as if time had folded back on itself, and you were once again carefree children, sharing secrets and dreams.

"so, what have you been up to?" you asked, your eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"oh, you know, living in a forest, workin' on my business," he replied with a grin, his tone playfully exaggerated.

you chuckled. "the same old onceler. always with the big dreams."

"well, you know me," he said, nudging you playfully. "can't resist dreaming big."

you found a park bench and settled down, surrounded by the sounds of the city. onceler couldn't shake the feeling that this was a precious moment, a chance to relive the essence of your friendship.

as you talked about their present lives, dreams, and even mundane things, the emotional weight of your separation lifted. the years melted away, leaving you with the unfiltered joy of being in each other's company once more.

the afternoon sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the town. you and onceler remained on that bench, surrounded by the shared laughter and memories of a friendship that had stood the test of time.

as the day drew to a close, you walked through the town once more, relishing the comfort of each other's presence.

the way the music picks up to something adventurous and exciting when the rogue jumps into the triangle... that little smirk, and "find me"... idk, it feels so different from the usual "gay people can't be happy and together" angst we see on tv, or the typical melancholy way single-episode companions depart. it's almost like a nod to the audience, who have come to expect sad music and a tragic parting line. instead, it's a wink and a promise for more.

as the season wraps up, it really feels like these episodes are playing with the conventions fans have come to understand about doctor who and tv in general—it's written for nerds who pay attention, and are unabashedly thoughtful and passionate about the stories they love. reminds me of "love and monsters," but way more fleshed out. the satire is very much present, but it's pointed in the direction of the people and institutions that are antithetical to the show's overall messages. it's just refreshing, to see a show that unironically loves itself and its fans in 2024.

Like Iggy getting uncomfortable when people have or wave around scissors.

Or just occasional awkward tension between some of them when smt gets mentioned that connected to their death ? Since I think they would sometimes have déjà vu if I remember correctly.

some of these actually i've answered before if i remember correctly, i shall go look...

these were their fears:

Iggy: needles (and also doctors/hospitals in general to an extent), general fear of the dark

Genzou: (depressing one) dying alone, (sillier one) clowns, because he watched peewee's big adventure on tv when he was a kid lakdjfad

Orlam: being publicly humiliated/chastised, people yelling in general, but also when things are too quiet

Gidget: very very large things, heights (tho can force themself if they have to)

Bucks: ghosts and phantoms etc (she's super superstitious about that kinda stuff and enjoys scaring herself with it; she probably longs to go on ghost hunting treks and scare herself silly)

and as for the overarching question of whether or not they have lasting fears/scars, i think so. like they definitely experience a variety of deja vu moments, random flashes of memory. i think it says at some point in the epilogues that like, sometimes iggy just becomes overcome with an intense feeling of melancholy that weighs him down. so i think that lasting fears would definitely be part of this. i can't really think of any specific ones off the top of my head, but i think that in general, anything similar to or objects/locations related to a horrific experience they had in wonderland would be likely to dredge something up. even if they're not strong enough to make any of them actively afraid or actively avoid certain situations/places/objects, it would certainly summon guttural feelings of anxiety or sadness, which they'd probably all respond to differently. iggy would likely either want to be alone for a while or if with someone he feels safe with, just be held for a while. genzou i could see pretending he's not affected until later and then just going melancholic the rest of the night/having trouble sleeping. orlam i could see the opposite in that he'd probably try to overcompensate for it by being extra exuberant. gidget would want to talk to someone they trust. and bucks would probably cry (i see bucks as being much more prone to crying in general in the updated timeline than in the original)

You know, I want to say this, because from the first time I saw the Toei Ladybug anime PV, my impression of Felix was always that he’s emo/angsty. Like the “I’m so tortured”, listens-to-Linkin-Park sad sop kind of thing.

When TA said this dynamic got scrapped because it was too cliche, I thought he meant that it’s too much like the 2000s-era brooding dudes and I get that maybe they thought it’s just “too yesterday” or whatever.

I don’t really see where the accusation of him being a jerk comes from. Do the non-anime crowd maybe just see it differently or something? Because there’s stuff that are probably anime-specific gestures that you might not catch if you’re not used to it. Or maybe it’s the sketches/concept art that came out later that affected people’s perception, IDK. 

(for example, the drawing of a guy dropping apple on Marinette’s head that people thought was Felix for the longest time, but is recently revealed to be a pre-Felix incarnation called Nathan)

Anyway, I don’t know what kind of material was Toei given to work with or if this is just “Vibes” and don’t map to any of the backstage versions that we’re aware of. If I’m just looking strictly at the PV, Felix just looks like a sad emo boy.

Like this little close up of his eyes when he talks to Marinette. His eyes narrow slightly, and his head tilts down a little. In anime, they usually do this to show melancholy/sadness, conflicted feelings, or hurt.  

So the scene that follows, where he walks away, looks like a classic “I can’t be close to you because [insert dramatic reason here]” kind of scene. Just... it can be whatever. Maybe his parents are too strict and limits who he interacts with, he needs to focus on his studies, he doesn’t want his bad luck to hurt her, or whatever Sad (TM) stuff you can think of. 

The same with the scene where he refused Marinette’s invitation. When he turns away you see that he’s looking down slightly. Again, this feels more of a “I actually want to but I can’t because [insert Plot (TM) reasons here]”. Not a cold snub. 

Just because she looks sad (exaggeratedly), doesn’t mean that he was being mean to her. Shoujo heroines do this a lot even when the guy turned them down very nicely and for valid reasons (e.g “I can’t go because I need to go to work/attend a very important family function/someone literally died/etc”). 

And honestly her face looks more like a typical shoujo “Aww darn, better luck next time” kind of face to me. 

Anyway. This is my anime POV observation. Someday I will get around to actually making something and not just passively viewing content.

Something I think about a lot is how Taylor’s writing about marriage and kids just got sadder and sadder as her relationship went on, idk if it’s something significant to the actual relationship or her feelings about it but it made me sad :)

Just to explain what I mean, you can see it goes from paper rings and lover, where it feels very honeymoonish and new, to peace, where you kind of get hit with reality, to lavender haze, little bit of denial, to you’re losing me where it’s finally over :))))

There’s probably a lot to more to add and analyze but it’s what comes to mind, idk if this makes any sense whatsoever lol sorry

it makes sense and lavender haze is exceptionally notable to me, given that we know it was written either around the same time or after you're losing me was written. like, obviously midnights was written with the concept of moments throughout her life... but it just feels so melancholy knowing the context in which she wrote it.

While i love teacher izuku, it felt a bit surprising hearing him say he would've still chosen to be a teacher even if he had ofa. Which isn't bad! It's very sweet, but i suppose Izuku as a character and the concept of heroism are so interwined to me, that one without the other feels odd and as if there's something missing. But maybe I'm just looking at it wrong?? Izuku came to love teaching, and maybe to him that's still heroic and he gets to do both things that he loves. I guess,, i just keep trying to think beyond ch431.

On a better note, that little scene of izuku noticing bakugo got his childhood card signed and then smiling was very heartwarming. ,,,,,,,,,,, And I also miss toshi (what's new) asdfg, that card was not enough

So much of what you said resonates so hard (especially missing Toshi, god I want to see that man again)

There's just this feeling of resignment. I do believe Izuku enjoys teaching and sharing his experiences but yeah...seeing him keep hero work on back burner is just bittersweet. It really seems like being a hero has been heavily tainted for him. It's wrapped up in his guilt and grief and the burden he carries since the war. More than being a hero again Izuku seems to care that the suit has given him the ability to work with his friends again.

I can understand Izuku turning down Bakugou because he'd more of a sidekick if he joined agency? (it'd make more sense for them to start an agency together so they'd be on equal footing) but now their goodbye and those panels from Bakugou's perspective just feel so sad... I can see Izuku not joining an agency since he wants to keep being a teacher it's just that when the two of them part there's such an underlying sadness to it. That's what gets me. It feels like we're experiencing a loss.

And YES the original 430 ending felt so uplifting with Toshi smashing the "The End" and the open ending of all of class A heading off together. I always enjoy more openedness. I mean 431 does feel open but Idk...there's a sad finality to it especially with Bakugou and Izuku's parting.
