sorry but like. why can the people a few years younger than me not hold a conversation to save their lives. like these people cannot have small talk for a full 60 seconds. they literally just stand there blank-faced. 18ish year olds are so social stunted.

i was at a student networking thing so literally the only requirement is keep the conversation going so it doesn't get awkward. we can talk about literally anything, we already have our university in common so it's not that hard. but i would say something and they'd just stand there. i had the exact same experience at a student organization meeting. they all showed up again so i know they want to be there, and the upperclassmen were talking and including them the whole time, but they just stare and give the dullest answers to questions when you try to get the ball rolling. like you ask their favorite class and they just say the name of a class, don't even say why. like drop an amusing anecdote why don't you?

literally i reflect on some of the conversations i've had with underclassmen and i'm like...wow maybe i (diagnosed social anxiety and autism) am a conversationalist. because literally all it takes to be better at communicating than these people is to express an interest in the conversation at all. at first i thought it was just a freshman thing that eventually everyone grows out of but idk i feel like it's that age cohort.
